George chuckled as a marine handed him his hammer. He swung it around and twisted it in his grip, it may have threatened anyone else but not Law. "So you want your cleaner back?"
Law stepped forward, Mizu could barely make out his expression in the night's light. Seriously, for a man with so much money, why was there a ton of expensive looking bonfires around? "Pretty much, I've grown quite attached to her."
Mizu smiled for the first time since she was taken and stumbled forwards trying to get back to where she belongs. George stopped her and yanked her back against his broad chest. "You even try to move from this spot and that sniper will kill you."
The cleaner turned to were George nodded to and spotted a hardened marine with a gun pointed at her. Mizu tried to shake out of his grasp but failed miserably. "That's not what we agreed" she hissed venomously.
George let her go and nodded to the sniper closest to them. "We agreed that if I won, I would make sure they were put in prison and that you'd stay with me. So, if I win, everyone wins. If I lose, you die with me, if you try to help you'll die. If I lose and you somehow get away, any surviving marines will report you as an active pirate who is a threat to the government. No matter what, you are not getting out of this." Mizu glanced at Law and the guys, she trusted them to win or to at least get away safely. George turned away from her to focus his attention on the threat that was Law. "Now that's over with, Captain, I'd like to congratulate you on what you have done to this girl. She can take punch or two, however in the end she realised that she couldn't win against me. That you couldn't win against me."
"Who knew the marines like to prey upon defenceless girls? I thought the marines stood for justice, how disgraceful."
"It wasn't my men or I that attacked her, it was your kind, pirates. Somehow the knowledge that she was a member of the Heart pirates got out. It seems you've ticked off a few people Trafalgar. I wonder, was it you who taught her to just lie down and take it?"
Murmurs trickled out from the pirates in too quieter tone for Mizu to hear. Shachi's gun arm was shaking and Penguin frowned and turned to his Captain. Law remained calm and spoke to George without any hint of anything. "Not only do you allow a powerless girl to be attacked but you also put her in a cell with pirates? What if they killed her?"
"Probably would have found a new pet to play with. I only really needed her for information and she was the weakest link. I was right too, only took a day in the brig for her to agree to my terms."
"Before I kill you, I'm going to need the names of those pirates and an apology for hurting my possession." Mizu didn't know whether to hug or smack Law or whether George was taking him seriously or not. She'd been with Law long enough to know that, that was his 'I am going to kill you slowly' tone.
George turned back to Mizu and stroked her cheek softly, he spoke quietly so that only she could hear him. "Aww, he does care, if only a little." Another marine came scuttling out from within the palace and skidded to a halt next to George. His whole demeanour changed when the marine had finished. "How did you know where the treasure was hidden?"
Mizu knew Law was grinning now, she didn't have to be able to see him to know that. "What that lovely pile of treasure that's probably worth millions sat practically unguarded on your hidden second battleship? We may have taken a bit."
"Now, I'm really going to have to kill you. If I don't I'll be executed alongside you, the emperor doesn't take kindly to pirates or failures." George entered a fighting stance, his hammer raised above his head ready to strike down his opponents.
"I'm sure I can figure something out." Law shrugged and drew his sword, Mizu was drawn to the dancing flames that glinted up and down the blade.
They met with a clash and in that instant, the two sides began to fight. Some of the Heart pirates ran for the stairs leading up to the higher level while other battled in the yard. Mizu spotted Penguin and Shachi pulling their tag team fighting style against a fair amount of marines. While on the other side of the yard, Bepo was taking out marines as if he was getting strikes at bowling. Mizu turned her attention to the main fight, she scowled at the marines trying to sneak up behind the fight but it wasn't as if she could do anything about it. George swung and missed Law, who used his sword as leverage leap over the low swing. The marines now directly behind law weren't so lucky. Mizu's whole body clenched at the loud crack. They were sent flying into a wall, she shuddered at the dent they left in it. Once again, George swung widely but Law countered it mid-swing by jutting the end of his sword directly into his elbow joint. Law's free hand stretched out his lean fingers ready to summon the devils operating theatre but George stopped him. The Commodore sent a kick to his gut, winding him completely. Law gasped and coughed due to the blunt trauma, the pain evident on his face. They backed away from each other, Law was completely and utterly pissed. The pirate Captain used his thumb to wipe at his lip after his coughing subsided. Mizu could only thank the gods that it was only a kick, that hammer could shatter bones in an instant.
George smirked and jabbed a thumb back at Mizu, "Didn't I tell you that she told me about your ability?"
Law didn't say anything, he prepared himself for the next part of the fight. George's smiled widened when he saw that he got to Law, Mizu on the other hand didn't feel too good. She felt ill watching the fight as it continued. No matter how much Law tried to get enough time to activate his ability George would always close it, or hammer it shut so to speak. Mizu could hear their ragged breathes from where she stood. Law's energy was being depleted fast, they were on equal footing as much Law hated to admit it. The two traded hits and neither of them gained the upper hand, until some loose gravel got under Law's foot. The ebony haired Captain lost his balance for a split second and that's all it took. Shock took over Law's expression as George managed to land a hit to his jaw. Mizu dropped to her knees as he hit the ground. She begged inaudibly for him to get up and to be okay. Her heart stopped beating when he didn't. George laughed and strolled over to his body arm raised. He was like a predator standing over his prey, the victor and had a smug smile plastered all over him. Just before he brought the hammer down for the final blow, a blue circle appeared out of nowhere. Neither Mizu or George saw Law move. The next thing either of them knew was that Law was on his knees, his sword had been swung and George's head was on the floor. Mizu released the air in her lungs and let out a small pathetic laugh.
"Law, I knew you'd win." Mizu whispered to herself her hands clasped over her frantic heart.
Law had done it. He had defeated George and the crew had finished off the marines on the ground. Bepo led the charge against the remaining marines on the walls. Mizu had never been so happy to be near pirates ever before. Small sobs choked their way out of her trembling body as she stumbled towards Law. Law simply grinned and started to meet her, he had a few scrapes and maybe a dent or two but he was okay. Mizu couldn't be more relieved. Elation would have been a good word to use but she was too busy tripping over air and maybe pinching herself. Her heart had just started to calm down when one final gunshot rang out. Mizu stopped still. The world around her blurred and became fuzzy. She could hear Law say something. Or was he shouting. Her breathe was all she could hear. Short rasps catching in her throat. She could feel something trickling down her stomach. Something warm. Law caught her before she hit the floor. He held her in his arms frantically trying to spot the wound. Mizu briefly wondered why she couldn't feel any pain. The fact was, she couldn't feel anything. Nothing but the warm sticky liquid now pouring from somewhere in her chest. Mizu thought Law had found the wound as she felt some kind of pressure. She felt woozy and not the sedation kind. She also felt cold. Cold as the North Blue Sea. Mizu was scared, so terribly scared. When she tried to look at Law all she could see were black spots covering his face. He was trying to say something to her. Mizu gave him a weak smile before she closed her eyes.
Warmth was the first thing that Mizu felt when she had consciousness. She wasn't awake no, but she was nearly there. She was warm. Mizu felt safe. Then came the pain. It wasn't as bad as she thought it might be, it was a dull ache in her collar bone. Law would correct her on the proper name later but...
'Law! I got shot. What happened? Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow! Why can't I move? Damn I'm thirsty. Hang on. I was shot! Oh pissing hell I was shot. Who the hell shot me? Probably a marine, stupid question. Ow, hurts to get angry. Hurts to breathe sort of. Why am I not in a hell of a lot more pain?'
Mizu opened her eyes slowly only to find Law sitting next to her reading. He looked tired, Law didn't notice her staring so she tried to move. Pain jolted through her body so she gave up immediately. She attempted to talk but her voice was raw and sore. Then Mizu tried to move but her body felt like lead. The heart rate monitor's beeps quickened by her frustrated emotions.
"You're up. Don't try and move, you don't want to know how many drugs I'm pumping round your body. You're voice will be sore as I had to stick a breathing tube down your neck until I was sure you could breathe on your own again. Thankfully most of the bullet went straight through your clavicle but due to it being a bone it splintered the bullet slightly. A small slither of metal got lodged which, for your information, took a long time to get out even for me. Even when you're on my operating table you still manage to annoy me. I managed to repair your shattered bone and the wound isn't going to leave an ugly scar but it will be noticeable. I'm going to keep you in just while the drugs are leaving your system and you are able to handle yourself without causing too much trouble. There will be pain when you move your arm but mostly over time it'll be stiff more than anything. You were damn lucky that, that damn marine misjudged the wind, you're movement and the overall shot." Tears welled up in Mizu's eyes, she blamed it on the drugs but she was determined not to cry in front of Law. "I'm not going to hold it against you if you cry, Mizu. You were shot, that's a pretty good reason. Just don't start blubbering or I'll have to leave."
"Y-y-y-you." Mizu tried to talk but her throat was as ruff and dry as a desert.
"Don't try and talk yet, cry or go back to sleep. You can tell me when you wake up." Law went back to his book occasionally spying on her to see whether she was asleep yet. It took a while but exhaustion finally took over. Mizu drifted off into a dreamless sleep but she slept happily.
I honestly wanted to end it when she got shot but I thought that was evil. Alas, I am updating on a Tuesday. A Tuesday at 11pm, it feels weird. Still, I hope its a lovely Christmas fanfic present.
Last chance to think of some awesome names for Mizu, next chapter (I think) will be marine poster time, any suggestions for outfit? Had one already. I have no idea why but I'm heading down the cosplay route... I think I need help.
