Chapter 24

Steve sat silently as he patiently waited for Bucky to start speaking. He knew all too well that waking up from something that seemed like a blink of an eye could be too much to handle.

He still had moments where he would wake up at night thinking he was back in his rightful time.

It didn't help that his Brooklyn apartment looked very much like the ones from his day and most of the time it was because of the few pieces of modern technology that brought him back to reality.

He'd managed to hide his mild depression before the team had formed and afterwards he had began to get over the depression once he saw that these new people, although they couldn't replace the ones he had lost, were new friends that cared about him in their own ways.

He just hated knowing that Bucky was going to be going through what he went not too long ago.

"So...everyone is..."

"Gone." Steve answered softly. "Peggy the most recent. You and I are the only ones left."

BUcky closed his eyes and lightly sighed.

"I can't believe it." he said opening his eyes again. "It doesn't...It doesn't seem real."

"You're telling me." Steve agreed. "There are times that I still think I'm still in the ice and this is all just a weird dream. The way things have advanced...it's amazing, confusing and kinda scary."

"How did you adjust?"

"It took a lot of time and patience but half of the time it was from the new friends I made. One of them is Howard's son."

Bucky gave a weak chuckle.

"I never thought Howard would have a kid." he said.

"Same here. You'll meet him later when you're ready."

"Are you still in the Army?"

"Somewhat. I serve whenever they ask for Captain America but most of the time I work with an organization known as SHIELD. Kinda like the SSR. I'm on a team kinda like the Commando's only these guys have powers and abilities of their own."

"A team of super heroes? Sounds like you, Steve." Bucky said with a smirk.

"Speak for yourself. You're kinda like a super soldier now too."

"I think I'll wait a while before I go back into battle and until I get even more answers." Bucky said.

"Take all the time you need." Steve agreed. "I know that something like this isn't easy to take in."

Knock, knock.

"Probably the boss." Steve said as he stood right before the door opened. Sure enough, Fury walked in trying to look as calm and friendly as possible.

"Sir," Steve greeted.

"Captain." Fury greeted back before turning his attention to the man sitting in the bed. "Sergeant Barnes, it's an honor to meet you. I'm director Nick Fury of SHIELD. How do you feel?"

"A little headache but that's it." Bucky answered.

"Considering what's happened to you recently, I'm glad that it's just a headache." Fury said. "I'm sure Captain Rogers has informed you of everything."

"Eveything." Bucky repeated. "Even how I got here in the first place."

"Is there anything we can do to help?"

"I think I just need time to really accept everything." Bucky answered. "But...am I really not under the control of Hydra anymore?"

"You're clean as a whistle." Fury answered. "We pulled the chip out of you and gave you a full exam. Everything checked out perfectly. We would like for you to just rest for now and we can discuss more serious matters later."

"Thank you, sir." Bucky said.

The tall director left the room and let the two soldiers get back to their conversation.

"He anything like Phillips?" Bucky asked.

"At times he's exactly like Phillips. Bold and sometimes just as loud." Steve answered with a smirk.

Bucky grinned at the answer.

"So, tell me about the others that you save the world with."
