Hello there...

Been a long time... hasn't it?

Now, before you get your hopes up, no, I am not continuing this story. Most of you have probably already guessed that.

But, after all this time, I felt like I cheated my readers out of an ending... so this 'update' will be a brief selection of ideas and dialogue I had thought out for what would have been the ending.

Here it is... and I'm sorry...

The next chapter would have began with the groups' reaction to Ganondorf being wounded and revealing that he was the one they were supposed to meet. He had, for the first time in his many lives, prayed to the goddesses he so despised to send Link to him so that he could prepare him for his confrontation with Ghira-Dark Link. Most of the group is skeptical but, surprisingly, Link seemed to trust him on a gut feeling. He would then ask Navi to try her hand at healing his wounds as best she could. She confessed that her healing skills were rather limited but, at Link's urging, began to treat him.

They would then begin to strategize.

Ganondorf: First off, he isn't like most enemies you've faced before. I know you must have thought of me as the incarnation of evil, but this creature... is something that is so twisted with hate not even my own dark powers could keep him in check. And now, with the Triforce of Power at his disposal he will be nigh unstoppable.

Malon: Wait, I thought you were like, some kind of demon king. Don't you guys have some sort of hive mind or something?

All present besides malon stare blankly

Then, after some time, the group decide that its time to rest. Groose, away from the king of evil, suggests to link that they take turns keeping watch. For monsters or otherwise. If only to give his companions peace of mind, he agrees. Shortly into his watch, Zelda comes out to sit and talk with him.

Fluff ensues.

Afterwards, she makes him promise that when all of this is over, they would go on a real date. Not entirely sure what a date is Link agrees and, with a kiss, Zelda goes back inside. While he is staring after her, ganondorf reveals himself from around the corner to him. Link is wary, but can tell that his former enemy has no desire to fight or trick him. Ganondorf comments on their relationship, saying it was their cursed fate that ties them together. He tells Link that if the goddess Hylia had destroyed the ancient evil at the final battle instead of sealing it, none of this would have happened.

Ganondorf: We three are nothing more than the toys of fate now. If you succeed here, the curse will spawn a new threat. Which, in turn, will spawn a new hero and princess. And so the process shall repeat for all eternity until the end of days. There is nothing left for us but bloodshed.

Link suffers from a short inner turmoil before he remembers the words of the first hero.

Link: Maybe we are, maybe we aren't. I can't say what the future holds for anyone, but I do know this: I don't care. Even if my spirit moves on after I die and inhabits another Link, I am the Link of this time now. Which means I decide my own fate. I choose to fight because I don't want to see the world end. And If I have to trudge through an ocean of my own blood to ensure that peace reigns, even for a little while, I will have no regrets.

Ganondorf is silent for a while before standing and making a curious comment about understanding his own feelings better now. He leaves and the night progresses uneventfully.

Either the same chapter or the one after that, Link and the gang plus ganondorf arrive at the gerudo fortress. It is heavily guarded by all manner of enemies seen throughout the zelda series. Ganondorf suggests that a full frontal assault would be suicidal and brings up a back door of sorts he mentioned during their strategy. Seeing no other options, the group follow his lead.

Once inside, the rooms are filled with traps and puzzles designed specifically for Link. During each encounter with a trap or enemy mob, Link mentions that he feels like something is watching him. The triforce pieces on his and zeldas hands are resonating and Ganondorf comments that he wouldn't be surprised if Ghira-Dark Link didn't already know they were here and was entertaining himself.

Everything goes wrong shortly after. One by one, the traps split the group up with Groose taking out a doorway between him and the others to keep a group of mobs busy while they escape. Malon is distraught but they press on nonetheless. Shortly after, a floor trap activates and sends Malon down a separate chute than the others. Ganondorf makes a humorless joke about the others being unimportant to Ghira-Dark Link and that he probably only wants the three of them. The final door leads them to a long staircase that leads them outside onto the roof of the complex.

Typical bad guy speech about being sick of being ordered around and treated like garbage intensifies.

Ghira-Dark Link reveals that he not only hates Link and Zelda for ruining his plans in their past lives, but that he also hates the spirit of Demise for throwing him away after all that he had done to revive the dark lord.

Ghira: So now... I've decided to become the master of this world. No. Of all worlds, and all the creatures in it! It shall be a beautiful work of art! A masterpiece to last all eternity... Ah, but such a pity... that none of you will live to see it!

He attacks.

His first phase is similar to his first three fights in skyward sword. He uses his speed to dodge projectiles fired from ganondorf and zelda and uses his skills of close quarters combat to counter Link. Fi, who had been occasionally chiming in this whole time, suggests that Link use the elemental rod to stop his movements. Link activates the earth element and causes a controlled quake to knock Ghira off balance. This repeats for a while with the other elements before Ghira activates his second phase.

Ghira: Guh!? Hah... hah... pathetic. Struggling like worms in the dirt. Time to crush you under foot!

He now grows into a large shadow beast with metal sword protrusions randomly sticking out of him. None of their attacks phase him but his own reach and power leave them little time to think. Shiek informs zelda that the metal swords are attached to his core and that they should channel light energy into them. She passes this information onto Link and Gannondorf, the latter of which points out that he has no light magic. Zelda then tells him to sit back and, with a determined grin, begins leaping and dodging over the giants strikes while channeling the power of the triforce into the metal. While Link is firing skyward strikes, Ganondorf idly comments that he now understands Links infatuation with the princess and says that a small part of him admires her as well now.

Ghira is angry now. He begins to grow in size like a balloon before exploding, sending the swords flying in all directions. Zelda and Ganondorf manage to find cover, but Link is exposed. Zelda tries to make it to him as a group of blades are aimed straight at him, but she stumbles at the last second.

The sound of metal tearing through flesh rings out.

Link is in shock as Ganondorf stumbles a bit from the pain of blocking the hits. He coughs up blood. Link asks why.

Ganondorf: Because... I... am the Ganondorf of this time now... Which means I decide my own fate...

He collapses.

Ghira mocks the king, saying that his fate was death all along and that he has changed nothing. Ghira is in his final form now and looks like his original self at the end of skyward sword, but he is literally pulsing with power now from the triforce. He conjures a smaller version of the sword that he inhabits and locks himself and Link into a small arena for their final duel. It proceeds much like the twilight princess ganondorf fight with Girha using some of his techniques from his first two phases. Link valiantly tries to hold his own, but is fatigued and knocked to the ground losing the master sword. Ghira closes in.

Ghira: Stupid child. Did you really think you could overcome the centuries of hatred I have accumulated? I have long awaited my revenge... and now. YOU. WILL. SUFFER!

Ghira stabs Link through the leg. Link cries out and tries to reach for the master sword. Just before he can grab it, Ghira stabs him through the arm. Zelda is calling out to him, desperately beating on the barrier to no avail. Ghira positions the blade over his heart before turning to Zelda.

Ghira: Patience, child. Your turn will come soon enough. Now, you little pest. I've had my fun, but it's time to say goodbye!

A dark blast hits him from behind. Ghira doesn't flinch.

Ghira: So... you're still alive old fool? I must admit, I was disappointed when you went down so easily. But sadly, I have no time to entertain you now. You're one foot in the grave and that attack of yours barely...- urgh!?

Ganondorf laughs, coughing a bit, and grins at him menacingly

Ganondorf: Fool. That wasn't *cough cough* an attack!

Ghira: What-!? URAGH!? *he claps his hands to his head, thrashing about widly* No! Stay down! How can you fight back, even against the power of the triforce!

Dark Link: *inside his mind* I was just a little tired... thanks to that little blast of dark magic, I've absorbed enough to fight back!

Ghirahim: *out loud* Impossible! The Triforce of Power is in my possession, even with that small amount of power you are insignificant!

Dark Link: *chuckles* You're the fool here. Did you forget? My name is Dark Link! Even if we are opposites, the hero and I share one very important thing in common...!

Ghirahim roars in pain as energy cackles from inside him, immobilizing the traitorous spirit in place.

Dark Link: *out loud in an ethereal voice* AN UNBREAKABLE SPIRIT!

Link is in awe of the sheer tenacity of his dark side, but snaps out of it when Fi calls out to him and hands him the Master Sword. For the sake of comedy, Link asks when Fi gained hands.

Dark Link: Hey! Quit dawdling and finish this already!

Link wastes no further time and slowly stands, holding the Master Sword high, as it charges with a skyward strike, Ghirahim sees all of the incarnations of Link standing behind him adding their power to his. Above them, he sees the three goddesses and Hylia with her Hero lending their strength also. Link charges forward and just as he pierces Ghirahim, he tries to curse them all, but is interrupted by Ganondorf appearing behind him covering his mouth.

Ganondorf: Not this time!

They are both stabbed.

A large pillar of light erupts from their bodies, destroying both Ghirahims spirit completely and the spirit of Demise that had tried to cling to him. Ganondorf lets go and is thrown back a few yards. The pillar parts the dark clouds around the fortress and the sun shines brightly through them.

Panting, Link drops to a knee as Zelda rushes towards him and clutches him tightly. Link idly notices that the triforce of power is now shining on his hand. A few words are exchanged between them but the moment is interrupted by the barely breathing form of Dark Link. Dark Link explains that his motives for joining with the Gerudo king were to simply validate his own existence. That he was not simply a shadow of the hero's radiance.

Dark Link: I just... wanted to know... if I am truly... alive.

Link says nothing for a while, but finds his words shortly after.

Link: You can think. You can feel. And you can make decisions on your own. Is that not the very definition of being alive?

Dark Link's eyes widen at this simple realization before breaking into joyous laughter. He concedes the point to Link and expresses his desire to one day stand against him again not as an enemy, but as a rival. Link tells him that he will be waiting for the day and Dark Link fades away into nothing with a peaceful grin on his face.

Groose calls out to the both of them revealing he and Malon to be alive and well. They tell a short story of how they found each other and escaped. Malon comments on how brave Groose was but immediately berates him for being reckless. She demands he take her out to dinner as soon as they get home. Groose agrees quickly, not wanting to upset her further, but they both know he had intended to anyways.

While they, and zelda joining in as well, continue talking, Link walks over to Ganondorf. The gerudo king is still breathing, but obviously won't survive. He chuckles.

Ganondrof: What's this? Pity? While I may have been possessed by a vengeful spirit, I was well aware of the evils I committed. Neither pity nor mercy should be wasted on a man who does not repent of his crimes.

He takes a few ragged breaths

Ganondorf: But... I suppose... if you are intent on remaining as irritatingly goodhearted as ever, I will ask of you this. Do not let what happened to us... to all of us... fade from your mind. The fates have toyed with us... and I can already feel the spirit of Demise trying to reform... Such a powerful curse.

Link kneels down to hear him better

Ganondorf: All I wanted was to take the gentle breeze of Hyrule and give it to my people... Boy... no, Link the Hero, please... grant me this one request. End this curse... with the power of the Triforce, you can make any wish come true... It is time for Hyrule to have new heros now... and I tire of this.

Link nods and the rest make their way over to hear his words

Link: You and I may have been enemies... but somehow... I feel like we could have been friends. I swear to you, Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo people that I will bring the winds of Hyrule to this land. Even if it takes me a thousand lifetimes.

The triforce pieces resonate brightly and appear in the air between Link and Zelda. They stare at each other for a minute, and nod. Link touches the ancient relic and makes his wish.

Link: Great Golden Goddesses of Hyrule, hear my wish. Through many lives, a hero, a princess, and a great evil have reincarnated again and again. I wish for this curse to end and for the spirit of the Demon King to never again inhabit a physical form!

The Triforce glows brightly as the wish is granted and Ganondorfs eyes slowly close.

Months pass.

Zelda's life returns to normal and she begins recounting the events after the battle. Link has taken to studying agriculture and farming, his desire to keep his word fueling him. They are mercilessly teased for acting like a newlywed couple by their peers, sans Malon and Groose, due to their hardly leaving each others side. Neither of them care. She then thinks on the relationship of Malon and Groose. It was odd at first, seeing someone who adored her a bit too much, showing her best friend as much love and affection as Link shows her, but she wasn't complaining. Groose had also confided in her that he planned to propose to Malon after they finished highschool and become an inventor. She had wholeheartedly approved both plans without hesitation. Fi had informed Link that she must depart as well, seeing as how the swords was restored to its proper state and that she must return to her eternal sleep. Link begged her to stay but Fi had silenced him with a hug. Something that was foreign to both of them. She said that she had seen humans doing that often and wished to know what it felt like before sleeping again. She said it felt warm. Link kept the Master Sword in Zelda's house now, it becoming an heirloom to pass on should the need arise.

Zelda was broken from her thoughts by Link wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on the top of her head. He asks her what was on her mind and she jokingly responded with her skull followed by skin, hair, and Link himself. He laughs, but only for a moment. Zelda notices this and asks him whats on 'his' mind.

Link: I have a lot of things on my mind... The world is safe now... the curse on us is lifted... i'm trying to revive a dead land without the use of the Triforce... and I can no longer hear or feel my past lives within me... but mostly... I'm thinking about the future.

Zelda hums and comments that the future is always changing and that he shouldn't worry so much and instead live in the moment.

He chuckles and moves away, causing Zelda to turn around in confusion.

The confusion turns into shock when he slowly drops to one knee, holding a small box.

Link: You took the words right out my mouth... The future is always changing and regardless of what we do time always moves on. Zelda, will you stay by my side always and see the future together with me?

She said yes and tackled him.

Many, many years into the future, three young boys and a young girl have met in a large field that was once said to be a harsh desert. Two of the boys were twin brothers, almost the literal definition of Yin and Yang. But they stood up for each other, and always competed against one another. The third child was said to have been descended from a great desert king of legend. His flaming hair and olive skin gave much credence to that tale. The young girl had bright blue eyes that made her look a lot wiser than her age led most to believe. She tended to stick close to the blonde haired boy, having met him first and taking a liking to him. After brief introductions, the four children began to play, unaware of the smiling silhouettes of larger, identical spirits looking down on them in satisfaction.

Well... that was it! That was what I had planned but couldn't write out completely. Did the end surprise you? Dissapoint you? Or did you have a gut feeling all along that it was something like this?

Thank you to all the readers who followed this story since its maiden voyage. The hull had fallen apart many times and the paint is well worn, but we managed to finally reach our destination.

Once again, I'm sorry for not finishing this like I promised.

I really enjoyed any comments and support I got from you all.

P.S. Maybe... Just maybe... once I get some personal things sorted out, I can start writing again like I used to... so please...
