If Loki's hands had not been holding onto my shoulders I would have fallen down. My head reeled and the fire in my chest that was nothing more than red-hot coals being ignited. My breath caught in my lungs and it felt as though everything was spinning.
Loki's declaration echoed over and over. I gaped up at him, my heart pounded in my ears like a war drum preparing for battle. He stared at down at me, his fingers digging a little too deep into my shoulder blades, his green eyes wavered in our silence. I knew that I needed to say something. Anything, really. But words failed me as they often did and I was left with a silent movie in their wake.
Our lips clashed against one another, hungry and unabashed. His mouth slammed into mine as I grabbed his tunic and pulled him into me. He tasted of cinnamon and a faint trace of wine lingered on his tongue as it broke through the prison of my teeth.
Loki pushed my body against the wall behind me. One hand rested firmly on my waist while the other pulled at the back of my hair. His fingers wrapped around the still damp locks, intertwining them so they tangled in the mess of strands that pooled around my shoulder. Loki moved my hair aside with a quick brush of his hand, pushing his groin against me as his mouth trailed down my jawline leaving the touch of his lips prickling my sensitive skin.
I exhaled unevenly, closing my eyes to him. His mouth was hot and heavy as he pressed it to my throat working his way to my shoulders. His fingers on my waist glided up my side, my stomach contracted at the tickling sensation that reverberated throughout my body. He smiled against my skin as he bit the strap of my tank top and carefully pulled it down with his teeth.
My hands let go of his tunic, sliding into his ravenesque locks. My fingers grabbed at the soft strands, pulling harder with each tender nip he placed on my neck. His teeth scrapped at my sensitive skin sending waves of pleasure to the pit of my stomach. A small groan trickled between my lips causing Loki to push against me so that I could feel him bulging between my legs.
His hands released my hair, letting it fall down my shoulders in tumbling waves. He firmly grabbed my bottom, lifting me with ease. I wrapped my legs around him, knocking over several books in the process. They toppled to the ground slamming against the marble floor in a billowing cloud of dust. I inhaled sharply trying to keep from coughing when a sharp pulling sensation grabbed at my bellybutton and I appeared sitting on a table.
Loki unwrapped my legs from around his slender hips and in one long sweep knocked over the piled of books that had been stacked on the table. They clattered to the floor exploding dust all around us. My heart caught in my throat as Loki rushed forward and pressed his body firmly against mine until my back was on the table.
"Loki," I breathed in between his rough kisses. He moved his lips down my throat stopping just above my chest. "Someone is going to hear us."
"Let them," he growled wrapping his long fingers around my breast.
I moaned, lifting my waist off the table and into him. He rubbed back and forth against me, slipping his finger inside my shirt and pulling down the fabric to expose my pale, naked chest. I shivered at the sudden cold, my nipples hardened the second the air brushed against them. Loki descended, his warm tongue wrapped around one while his fingers slid up and down the other.
My fingernails dug into the fabric of his tunic, pulling his shirt up until I was able to feel his soft skin beneath my palms. I inhaled sharply, my breath catching in my lungs as I arched my back into Loki, feeling him grow harder against my leg. He sucked almost frantically as he released my breast with one hand and pulled me back into a sitting position.
The next thing I knew my back slammed against the wall just outside the library. A painting of a woman standing in an open field of grass tumbled to the floor. It echoed through the empty halls, sending glass scattered across the floor.
Loki's breathing quickened and I worried that he would start to grow angry at his failing powers once more. As we stared at the broken painting I started to laugh. Loki turned his gaze to me, his brows high and eyes narrowed in confusion. I continued to laugh hiding my face into the waves of his hair.
Loki tried again. His back slammed hard against the wall. A candle quarter sending shaking shadows across his face. Breathless I chuckled, leaning into him and claiming his mouth for my own. He stilled for a moment, his breath still heavy until I brushed my hips up and down in rhythm to my kisses. He grabbed a fistful of hair and teleported again landing a few feet outside my door.
Our lips bumped hard against one another and I could feel him smile against my mouth. With one more attempt we landed in my bedroom standing in front of my bed. Loki fell forward, landing on top of me as my back hot against the wrinkled sheets.
He stepped back without breaking stride and pulled my flannel pajama off in one swoop. He tossed them aside and crawled on top of me grabbing my top and slipping it over my arms. My hair cascaded around me, falling in folds across my chest. He brushed it aside, nuzzling at my skin with his nose until his lips claimed my nipples once more.
I refused to let myself think. The implications were something I would deal with in the morning. For now I would be quiet and enjoy the way Loki trailed his lips down my naked chest and to my stomach. His fingers followed after the warm line of kisses he left behind and pushed aside my wet underwear with two fingers.
I felt my insides clench as he looked up at me from below my bellybutton and smiled. I held my breath and closed my eyes preparing myself for the long finger that slipped inside me. I groaned, twisting at the pleasure that wracked through my body. With his free hand he held me firmly, refusing to let me turn as he slid another finger inside.
I bucked against his hand, breathing heavily as he continued to move his hand in and out, quickening his pace. My thighs clenched against his fingers and he moved his hand from my stomach to my legs, spreading them wide despite my struggle to squeeze them together.
"Loki," I moaned desperate to have him fill me.
Unable to control himself any longer Loki pulled his fingers out from inside me and worked at taking over his trousers. I sat up, breathless and hungry for more as I helped to lift his shirt over his head, my fingers purposely skated along his side. He growled under his breath, clutching my hair with a fist and pulled me into a deep kiss.
As his tongue slid behind my teeth I felt him move me back onto the bed. I complied, wrapping my hands on his narrow hips and spread my legs for him to stand between. He expertly slid my underwear to the ground, rubbing his thumb back and forth to make sure that I was ready for him.
Once satisfied he grabbed for my leg and lifted it onto his shoulder. I exhaled slowly, preparing myself for what was to come. His words about how I couldn't handle him rang through my head and I felt my stomach clench in anticipation. What if he was right and I couldn't-
I inhaled sharply, gasping between breaths as he slowly entered inside me, filling me to the brim. My lips parted in a silent moan. Loki moved his hips back and forth, his pace picking up as he dug his fingers into my thigh. My hands reached up, grabbing at the muscle in his arms and involuntarily left scratch marks as they trailed around to his back.
He thrust into me, his chest heaved with each pound. I gasped for air, digging my nails deeper at the sensation that rolled through me. He dropped my leg to the bed and grabbed my waist, rolling me onto my stomach, slamming hard as he grabbed for a fistful of my hair.
I cried out in surprise, pushing back against him. Loki leaned forward and with his fingers that weren't tangled in my hair started to rub in between my legs. I tossed my head back, moaning what I think was his name as he circled his fingers in small flicks.
Sweat trickled down his forehead and onto my back. His grunts sounded in my ears with each thrust. I felt my arms and legs strain to hold myself up, they twitched until he slammed into me with a force I wasn't prepared for and I fell forward.
Loki turned me around once more, his mouth hot against mine. He pulled out and wrapped his arms underneath mine to move me up farther onto the bed. With my head firmly on the pillows he entered again, his gaze resting on mine. I swallowed hard, uncertain of how much more I would be able to take when I felt my lower abdomen begin to contract back and forth. It spilled in waves that rushed through my body drowning me in pleasure.
With a grunt Loki pulled out and a warm, thick liquid trickled down my thighs. It rolled down my leg, cooling quickly as I inhaled and exhaled afraid that my chest would explode. Loki fell to his back next to me, breathing just as heavy as I was.
We laid next to one another in the dark for some time. My body was numb and tingled with every small movement. I exhaled slowly, closing my eyes to steady my breathing. I could hear Loki draw in air, his body expanding next to mine.
"Well at least I know you're a monster in bed," I teased in between gasps of breaths.
Loki chuckled bringing his hand to his chest. I rolled to my side, propping my head up with my hand. His eyes were closed and he breathed through his flared nostrils. Through the dim lightening I could see his chest rise and fall.
I felt myself smile, Thor's words rang in the back of my head. I lied for the same reasons that you did, Hayden. I was fooling myself to think that I only lied to Fury about Loki because I believed he deserved a second chance in redemption. I didn't lie to protect him from S.H.I.E.L.D. Loki didn't need me to keep him safe. I didn't lie because I didn't want to risk him getting caught. I lied because...
Loki turned his head, his green eyes glittered in the pale light of the moons that seeped through the curtains. His hand moved from his chest and lazily reached for my face. His finger touched my bottom lip, tracing along the curves before he sat up and placed a firm kiss onto them.
I leaned into him, closing my eyes and licking at the salt on my lips as he broke apart. "I love you," I whispered just loud enough that I wasn't even positive I said it out loud. When he didn't say anything I fluttered my lashes open left staring at the curtains that rustled in the silent night.
His back slammed hard against the brick wall. He opened his eyes, gasping for air and tried to teleport to his chambers once more. He threw himself against a statue that was only a few feet in front of him moments ago. Loki inhaled sharply, shoving himself off of the marbled-stone. He racked his trembling hands through his ratted hair and attempted once more only to flicker and remain where he stood.
Loki let out a cry of anguish as he tore through the halls to his bedroom. He held out his hand as he approached the doors, urging them to open at his command. They began to shiver but did not open. A muscle twitched in his jaw as he placed both palms against the large doors and pushed them open.
He stumbled to his bed, aware that the doors to his chambers remained open. Loki waved his hand, the doors did not budge. Hot air expelled from his cheeks as he brought his trembling fingers in front of his face. It was as though Hayden was sucking his powers from him like some sort of succubus. He flexed his fingers and shook his head, uncertain of what was going through his mind.
She had said the words he needed to hear. Karnilla had made it very clear that the power of the spring only worked when those in love drank from its poison. She has chosen Hayden specifically for her naive mind and her concept of what love truly was. Hayden would be easy to mold and control, she would give Loki no trouble.
Oh, but how wrong Karnilla had been. Hayden had become the most troublesome thing of all. He never intended to see her as more than just a Midgardian rat. She was only a leeway into getting his powers returned. He never cared what was to happen with Hayden once Karnilla had finished with her.
Upon first meeting her he knew how easy it would be to use her. She was so small and frail in her heels that made her look much taller than she really was. Her voice was soft and her pallid complexion burned with an intensity he had never seen before. From the moment he sat down to speak with her he knew Karnilla had chosen wrong. Yet, he still foolishly pursed Hayden in his greed to retrieving his powers.
His chest pained him as he stood to his feet to close the doors in front of him. He leaned his clammy forehead against the cool wood, swallowing hard as he tried to even out his breathing. It came in sharp like he had inhaled several small knives covered in lemon juice.
Perhaps he would ask Hayden to retrieve the stone. He wouldn't need to lie to her. She would understand, wouldn't she? She'd be eager to help, she liked to please other people more than herself. Loki exhaled slowly pushing past the knives that were lodged in his throat. He wouldn't ask Hayden because he didn't want her to go through with this at all. There had to be another way to get the stone.
You don't need the stone, reminded a nagging voice. You can redeem yourself as the All-Father...
Loki roared, slamming his fist hard against the door. He could feel the tears of frustration wet his cheeks as he hit the door again. And again, and again until his fingers were bloodied and numb. He inhaled sharply, his chest swelling unable to expand any more. Loki relished the pain, to feel something more than utter confusion. And what Hayden had done to him...he felt undone.
I had done a lot of stupid things in my life. Like the time I asked Kyle Bennington to the Middle School sock hop even though I knew he was going to ask Mandy Lovette. Despite the rejection that I knew I was going to receive I still went against every fiber that screamed at me not to ask him. And, of course I was left heartbroken and in despair.
I knew the entanglements with Loki would lead to no where but pain. I knew what would happen if I continued down the road I went. How could I be so stupid!? What did I honestly expect? That Loki would be so overwhelmed with my declarations of love that he'd sweep me in his arms and he'd exclaim his love for me?
Slowly, I sat up in bed running my knuckles deep into my swollen eyes. I wasn't certain when I had fallen asleep but judging from the still wet pillowcase it couldn't have been long ago. The tears were damp on my clammy cheeks.
Hastily I wiped at my face with the back of my hands when a knock sounded at my doors. My heart jumped. Was it Loki come to apologize? Careful, Hayden, I warned myself, you can only be this stupid so many times before noon.
"Come in," I croaked running my fingers through the tangles of my hair.
The doors swung open. Of all people to visit I was surprised to see Karnilla strolling towards my bed. She offered a sympathetic smile and gathered her blood red gown in her hands as she sat on the edge.
"I was going to visit last night but when I stopped by it sounded like you were doing much better." I blushed furiously, unable to keep it from showing. Karnilla laughed, gently placing her hand on my shoulder. "How are you feeling?"
"I-I-I really don't think that I-"
"Not about that!" Karnilla giggled and I felt my blush deepen. "I meant after nearly drowning the way that you did. It must have taken quiet the toll on you."
I looked down at my hands, clasping them together. "Oh. I'm actually much better," I replied blinking up at her. Karnilla smiled and released her grip on my shoulder. "I could probably use a day to recoup though."
"And you should!" she exclaimed. "Which is why I brought you this." Karnilla produced a book from the folds of her dress. "It's from Nornheim, where I rule. I thought it might keep you company while you regain your strength."
"Oh," I breathed taking the leather-bound book from her hand. "Thank you."
"It is the least that I could do after what you went through," she frowned, rising to her feet. "Perhaps when you are feeling better we can discuss Nornheim over brunch. I am quiet certain you'll find our myths just as entertaining," she smiled with a wink.
I blinked, hugging the book to my chest. "Oh, um sure."
"Wonderful. Do feel better. And, give Loki my best."
She shut the door behind her. My face felt as though it were against a frying pan. I couldn't tell if I was embarrassed or mortified. What exactly did Karnilla know? Did she hear something? Did she see us in the library. Suddenly I felt sick to my stomach.
My hands spread across the leather bound book as I breathed in and out, trying to calm myself down. It was no big deal, I told myself, staring at the worn pages in my lap. We we're all consenting adults here, just be mature, stay cool. I exhaled sharply, ruffling the yellowed corners.
I puffed out air from my cheeks and turned the book to the middle. My fingers skimmed down the faded text recognizing phrases written in Nordic script. From what I could gather it spoke of a stone. I shook my head not understanding what it was that I was reading.
The stone held great power. Something about a pond...no, wait! Stream. Okay, something about a stream. The stream required...I stared at the word underneath my fingertip. Kjærlighet. I rummaged through my memory trying to recall the word, it sat on the tip of my tongue.
"Share...share-la-heat..."
"Shar-lee-het but very close." Startled, I looked up from the book in my lap to see Thor entering my room. I closed the book and greeted him with a warm smile. He returned the gesture before asking, "how do you feel this fine morning?"
"Better," I replied, knowing that he didn't mean anything about Loki.
"That is wonderful to hear," he beamed stopping at the edge of my bed. "Are you up for a walk?" I hesitated and Thor quickly added, "just around the gardens."
"Some fresh air could probably do me some good," I admitted, tucking my hair behind my ear. Slipping out of bed I placed the book on the wooden nightstand. Thor mentioned that he would wait outside while I dressed. Just before he closed the doors I called out to him to wait. "What does kjærlighet mean again?"
Thor frowned, his thick blond brows furrowed. "I cannot think of how to say it in English, though I suppose simply put one could say that it meant love."
I mouthed the word, letting it go bad along my tongue. I swallowed hard and nodded a thank you. Thor smiled, and closed the doors leaving me to dress. I started toward the suitcases when a sudden thought crossed my mind.
I rushed over to the book and flipped through the pages until I found the section that spoke of the stone. I remembered reading about it in another book at home. The one that Loki had thumbed through but claimed he could not understand it. I made a mental note to ask my mom to send the book to me once I returned to New York.
There had been something nagging at the back of my head, though I couldn't remember what. I pushed it aside, deciding that I could think more on it after my walk with Thor. As I said before, fresh air could probably do some good.
