Chapter 25: Sacrifice and Sadness
I couldn't breathe, I couldn't move an inch from where I had fallen down. My mind was reeling from what I could't come to terms with yet. Mrs. Weasley's sobs brought me back to reality for a moment. I looked over and my heart stopped beating all together. George was holding Fred who wasn't moving at all. I forced myself to walk to the Weasley's as they gathered around the twins.
"He can't be….not Fred…why is everyone dying tonight?!" I thought as I started to fully breakdown. I fell to my knees again as I lost touch with reality again.
"This has to be a nightmare. This all night is one long big horrible nightmare! Fred can't be gone. Who is going to make us laugh if he's gone? And Nymphadora, she has a son to raise and look after now. She has to be alive somehow…and…and Lupin…I always looked up to him like he was my own father…I can't lose him too…I can't lose him after Dad died…" my thoughts went on and on until a hush fell over the great hall. I barely looked up to see that Harry stood in the doorway before leaving like he was heading out of the castle. I quickly went after him and grabbed his wrist.
"Where are you going?" my voiced cracked a bit I asked him.
"To end this before anyone else dies. I have to end this now." he said, turning to face me. I realized what he was planning.
"You can't do this Harry. You can't just go to Voldemort and turn yourself in!"
"I have to do this Jessie. There is no other way…" he held me close to him before he shocked me by kissing me deeply, filled with all the love he had for me. I kissed him back with the same love I had for him. For a moment my mind slipped back to the happy days when we were back in school and dating. As sudden as the kiss started, he regretfully ended it. By this time Ron and Hermione had found us.
"I'll always love you Jessie…" he spoke softly so only I could hear him. Hermione looked at us and figured out what Harry was about to do and started to speak but with one look from Harry she stopped.
"I love you too Harry…" I barely could speak above a whisper since the tears were dropping from my eyes like precious diamonds. He slowly let me go, slipping something into my hand. Hermione suddenly hugged Harry in a tight hug, about knocking me down.
"I'll come with you, we won't let you go alone…" her voice was cracking bad as the tears started. Ron gently pulled Hermione from Harry and held Hermione as the tears started. Ron didn't say anything but both boys looked at each other and Ron simple nodded like they were talking through thought. With one more look at all of us, Harry turned and walked away, heading for the forest. I looked down to see what he had given me. It was his pocket watch, the one he had gotten for his 17th birthday. He had also given me a key which I knew instantly was for his vault at Gringott.
"He's not coming back…he's walking to his death to save us…" I wanted to run after him to stop him. I wanted to help him find another way but it was too late.
An hour past by and still there was no sign of Harry coming back. Neville stood outside, watching while holding the sorting hat which somehow survived somewhat ok. I soon joined him when I spotted someone coming. We both saw it was the death eaters with Hagrid in front carrying something.
"Who is Hagrid carrying Neville?" Ginny asked as they drew closer. Neville didn't say anything when Voldemort walked to the front of the death eaters, laughing.
"Harry Potter is dead!" he yelled in victory. The other students and remaining members of the order gathered around myself and Neville.
"NO!" I cried out and would have ran forward if it weren't for Draco who held me back. It couldn't be true. Harry couldn't be dead! He had to be alive, there was nothing else who could end this war…
I could barely hear what Voldemort was saying when they finally let Hagrid go. He slowly walked towards us with Harry still in his arms. He seemed unsure before he looked at me. By this time I had fallen to my knees as pain ran through my body from loosing Harry. Hagrid gently laid Harry in my arms and the tears started to fall. I cried loudly, holding Harry close to me, keeping my head down. I could feel Ron and Hermione kneel by me, Ron has his arm around Hermione's shoulders as she sobbed. Ron cried silently, keeping his head down to hide his tears. Voldemort laughed at us before continuing his little speech.
"Potter betrayed you, you fools!" He laughed "He begged to die in the end, he knew he couldn't defeat me!" the other death eaters laughed with him.
"You have no choice left but to put your faith in me. I'll be merciful and let you mourn before you make your choice of joining me or joining Potter in death."
"Shut up you lying bastard!" I looked up with anger in my eyes.
"Harry would never beg for death, he cared about all of us! He fought for all of us…" I held Harry tighter to me as Voldemort looked at me, clearly pissed that I still had fight in me. He said nothing for a few minutes as more of the order and students gathered around me. I felt their sadness, I heard their crying and felt their tears.
"Draco? Draco dear, come on." Narcissa called out before she spotted Draco behind me. She held out her hand towards him, silently begging him to come to her but he remained where he was. He was when all hope was lost changing to our side!
For a while no one moved or said a thing until Neville started to limp towards the death eaters.
"Neville no!" Luna called out, snapping my attention back to reality. I looked up as he stopped.
"Ah a new member. What is your name young man?"
"Neville Longbottom." Neville said and a few death eaters laughed.
"Well Neville, I'm sure we can find room somewhere in our ranks…"
"I just want to say something." Neville cut Voldemort off, angering him but he motioned for Neville to continue.
"It doesn't matter that Harry is gone." he started and almost instantly Seamus pipped up.
"Stand down Neville. Its over…"
"People die everyday! Friends, Family…Yeah we lost Harry tonight. But he's still with us. In here." Neville pointed to his heart before he finished "So is Fred, Tonks, Remus. All of them are there and they didn't die in vain." Neville turned to face Voldemort who for once looked scared for maybe the first time in his lifetime but started to laugh at Neville.
"But you will! Because you are wrong! Harry's heart did beat for us. For all of us!" and with that he pulled the sword of Gryffindor out of the sorting hat, holding it like he was ready for action.
"And its not over yet!" he yelled as the others joined him in his yell. I felt my own fight return with a mighty roar. Neville was right, this battle wasn't over yet, not by a long shot. Suddenly I felt something move and I quickly looked down at Harry who I was still holding.
"Harry? could it be possible…could he still be alive?"
