Patricia's P.O.V.

"I think she's here," Prue said, peering out the window. I moved next to her and saw that she was right, Piper was walking up the steps.

"Here we go," I mumbled to myself. The front door opened and I saw Piper walk inside.

Then came the yelling.

Grams's voice was loud and it was on the brink of screaming. I froze as a sudden memory raced across my mind.

Don't think about it, don't think about it.

I crawled into my bed and tried to calm myself down. The last thing I needed was to have a panic attack for no reason.

"You okay?" Prue asked and I nodded.

"She did bring it on to herself. The least she could've done was tell us."

"I know," I said softly. Prue frowned and looked into my face. I grew scared, hoping she wouldn't push to see if I was alright.

"Your eye seems to be getting better," she commented.

"Nothing like the magic of an ice-pack," I replied. "Any word on your car?"

"It's wrecked. I'm better off buying a new one," she said with a sigh.

"That sucks," I commented.

"Yeah well, it's life." Prue looked like she wanted to say something but thought better of it and shook her head. Just then Piper stormed in and glared at the both of us.

"Aren't you a bucket full of sunshine?" Prue said and Piper glared at her even more.

"I can't believe you two," she growled.

"Look, it's not our fault you left and didn't say anything."

"We did try to cover for you," I said softly.

"Yeah, I'm sure you did," Piper scoffed.

"We did," Prue said defensivly. Piper laughed bitterly.

"Well, now I lost Leo," she said. "Are you happy now?" She stormed into the bathroom and slammed the door shut before we could answer. I closed my eyes and rested my head against the wall, feeling a headache start to form.

"She'll be okay," Prue said.

"I sure hope so," I replied.

Knock knock.

Grams opened the door and I tried my best to give her a smile.

"Get some rest, we're going to the hospital tomorrow," she said.

"Is Phoebe okay?" Prue asked immediately.

"I wouldn't say she's in good shape but she's awake," Grams informed us.

"Oh thank God," Prue said and I couldn't help but smile.

"I'm going to drop you off before I go to work," she continued. We nodded and she started to say something when she suddenly cringed in pain.

"Grams?"

She stopped and gave us a weak smile. "I'm alright," she said. "I just need to get some rest."

"Let me get you some water," Prue said, getting up."

"Oh no honey, it's alright."

"I'm serious. Sit down, I'll get it for you." Grams sighed and obediently sat in a chair. Prue left and I eyed Grams worridly.

"Grams, are you really okay?" I asked.

"Of course I am," she said although it should've been obvious. But I knew better.

"You don't have to lie-"

"Patricia really, I'm feeling great." I knew she was lying but I didn't say anything.

"Here you go Grams," Prue said, handing her a bottle of water and some asprin.

"Thank you really, but I don't-"

"Take it," Prue said, cutting her off. Grams managed a smalll smile before obiently taking the pills.

"I'll see you early tomorrow," she said and gave us each a kiss on the forehead before leaving.

"Piper," I called, knocking on the door softly.

"Go away," came her response.

"Are you okay?" I asked. She didn't answer and instead opened the door and sent me yet another glare before storming to the other side of the room to grab her blanket and sheet.

"Piper-"

"I'm going to sleep in the couch," she announced.

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Prue said. "I think we should stay together-"

"We're going to sleep, why the hell is that a problem to you?"

"It's not, I just think-"

"Oh well, Prue thinks that we should just do whatever the hell she wants us to. I'm sleeping downstairs, end of story." Piper stormed out of the room.

"PMS much?" I mumbled to myself and walked into the bathroom. A few minutes later, I lied back in bed.

"Ugh, I don't have a pillow," I complained. "Or a sheet."

"There's some in the closet," Prue replied, leaning back into her pillow.

"It's so far away," I said, lazily reaching my hand towards the closet.

"It's your choice," Prue replied. With a sigh, I sat up and swung my legs over the edge of the bed.

Scratch scratch.

I froze, my feet barely touching the floor.

"Prue," I hissed.

"What?" She groaned tiredly.

"What's that noise?"

"What noise?"

"The scratching noise!"

"You're probably just imagining it," Prue dismissed.

"Right, because I want to get creeped out more than I already am."

"I really don't hear anything," Prue admitted. I sighed before curling into a ball on the bed.

"Aren't you going to get the pillows?" Her lips curled into a smile. "Or are you scared?"

"Terrified," I retorted sarcastically.

"You used to be so afraid of the dark when you were smaller," she said, starting to laugh. "You always had that stuffed animal with you. What was his name?"

"Bearbear," I said and we burst into a fit of giggles. "I always had the most creative names for my animals."

"Yeah, there was Mr. Whale, Sir Pup..."

"You had bad names too, remember Dr. Cat?"

"What's so bad about that?"

"It was a dog." Prue and I burst into a fit of giggles. After a few moments, I regained control and propped up on my elbows and stared at her.

"Do you remember the time that we had tried to make smores?" Prue asked suddenly.

"No," I said, suddenly intruiged. "What happened?"

"It was a complete and utter disaster," Prue said with a giggle. She spend the next few minutes telling me what happened.

"You started a fire?" I said and Prue nodded. "Gee, no wonder we never let you in the kitchen," I mumbled and Prue hurled a pillow at my face in response.

"I'm not that bad," she said defensivly.

"Denial," I said teasingly.

"I'm not! I didn't know marshmallows were flammable!"

"That must've been fun," I admitted.

"It was," Prue replied. The room fell silent for a few moments.

"Can I have my pillow back?" Prue asked.

"No, you don't deserve it," I said playfully.

"Don't make me come over there."

I rolled my eyes before throwing it blindly to her side of the room.

"So what about you?"

"What about me?"

"What was New York like?" My stomach tightened at the thought of my old life, the one I had left behind not-too-long ago.

"Patricia? Did you hear what I said?" I forced a yawn out of my mouth.

"I'm really tired, can we talk in the morning?"

"If you're uncomfortable-"

"No, no I'm just exhausted," I replied.

"Do you ever miss it?" Prue asked me in a whisper. I nearly laughed at the thought of missing the hell that I used to call home.

"There's nothing there to miss," I told her honestly.

"Nothing? It's New York!"

"I lived a lot of places, not just New York," I said softly.

"Why did you move so often?"

"Dad would do well at first and then..." I stopped as my breath caught in my throat. "Then, he would just screw it all up."

"How so?" Prue sat up, making it clear that she wasn't going to let the subject drop.

"He had drinking problems for as long as I could remember," I admitted. "The smallest thing would cause him to drink and when he drank, he got violent." My voice shook and I buried my face in my hands, trying to keep myself from crying.

"Did he ever hurt you?" she asked calmly. I shook my head furiously, refusing to answer. Prue moved over to my bed and wrapped her arms around me, resting her head on my shoulder.

I began shaking uncontrollably and suddenly I found myself crying into her arms. She rubbed my back reassuringly and tried to calm me down. I was hating myself for being so weak, couldn't I do anything right?

"Shh, it's okay," she whispered, gently pushing strands of hair out of my face. My sobs eventually subsided and I let out a small hiccup.

"You okay?" Prue asked softly and I nodded. I was suddenly very tired and I needed to sleep. I gently lied back down and closed my eyes and let sleep wash over me almost immediately.

"Guys. Come on get up." I opened my eyes and blinked a couple of times, trying to see clearly. Piper was standing in front of us, fully dressed and looking at us weirdly.

"Why are you too sleeping in the same bed?" she asked. I looked to my right and saw Prue lying right next to me. Last night's memories flooded into my brain and I gave a faint smile.

"We were kind've hoping you'd come back up here," I said and Piper shrugged and looked to the ground.

"Look, we didn't want you to get in trouble last night-"

"I know," Piper replied. "It's not your fault."

"Great, so we're all okay," Prue said, sitting up and letting out a yawn.

"You guys have less than an hour to get ready," Piper commented.

"Why didn't you wake us up sooner?!" I demanded.

"I didn't want to be rushed," Piper said as if it should've been obvious. I got up and bolted for the first bathroom and slammed the door just as Prue attempted to open it.

"Hurry up," she begged. "I need to pee."

"Well thanks, I totally needed to know that," I said with a roll of my eyes.

An hour later Grams pulled up to the hospital. "I can only be there for a couple minutes so you're responsible for getting yourselves home," she said, looking at each of us.

"We'll take the bus," Prue said, holding up our passes.

"Good. And Piper-"

"I know, I know don't go anywhere, don't talk to anyone, don't do anything," Piper said, slumping in her seat.

"I just don't want you around any bad influences," Grams said.

"Leo's not a bad influence," Piper said defensively.

"You snuck out of the house doing God-knows-what- and nobody knows where you went, much less who you're with-"

"What, do you think he's a drug dealer or something?"

"Of course not, sweetie I just don't think you should be hanging around him."

"Whatever," Piper said sharply, looking out the window. Prue and I shared a look; Piper was never this annoyed at anyone. We walked to the desk and waited few minutes before being lead to Phoebe's room.

"Okay, don't say anything to upset her," Prue reminded us.

"Okay," I said for what felt like the thousandth time.

"Whatever," Piper said softly. Prue opened the door and I wanted to cry as soon as I saw Phoebe. She was a sickly pale and there were bags under her eyes. She looked weak and fragile almost as if I could break her in half if I wanted too. In short, she looked like death.

"Hi guys," Phoebe said, giving us a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Oh my God," Piper whispered.

"Phoebe, you look like hell, " I commented.

"Patricia!" Prue snapped, sending me a warning glare.

"What? It's true! Seriously, what do they feed you here?"

"I can't eat anything," Phoebe replied, holding up her arm. "They put a needle in me so I can get nutrients without actually having to eat, isn't that cool?"

"Oh my God," Piper repeated.

"That is not acceptable for my little sister," I said.

"Where you going?" Phoebe asked, sounding a little hurt.

"I'm going to spoil you with sweets," I announced.

"With what money?" Piper asked, looking at me like I was crazy. I gave her my famous Bambi eyes and batted my eyelashes.

"No," she said simply.

"Why not? It's for a good cause!"

"Please Piper," Phoebe said, her voice barely coming above a whisper. Piper sighed before forking over five dollars.

"Thanks," I said. I walked over to my baby sister and kissed her forehead before leaving the room.

"Patricia wait, I'm coming with you," Prue announced. We walked to the elevator in silence and I pressed the button to go to the ground floor. I found Prue staring at me and I frowned.

"What?"

"She looked horrible," Prue said, starting to shake. "I don't know how much longer I can do this."

"Do you really think we have a choice in this?" I asked. The elevator door opened with a ding and we walked out as an old lady started to walk in. I gave her a small smile but she only glared at me in disgust.

Well then.

"Maybe if we told the cops-"

"We're not the only ones tied up in this. If the cops were of any use, they would've already been called."

"I don't want to be apart of this."

"We didn't choose this, it chose us."

"I guess we're pretty much screwed then."

"I don't think so," I said. "Prue don't you get it?" Prue stared at me until I elaborated. "They're afraid of us." Prue gave me a look like I had lost my mind.

Who knows, maybe I did. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

"Do you think they'd be trying to warn us? We must be close if they're going through all of this trouble."

"I don't think so," Prue mumbled.

"What about the car crash? The briefcase? We would've been able to solve this stupid thing if we had opened it."

"I don't know anymore," Prue said, sighing loudly.

"We need to find the briefcase," I said.

"No," Prue said suddenly. "We need to just let whatever happens happen and go from there."

"What is this Disney Channel?" I exclaimed. "We can't just stand here and do nothing!"

"I refuse to put any of you guys in danger," Prue said, her voice was shaking. I met her eyes and saw that she was scared, really scared. I never thought about how bad this was for her. I mean, she probably felt that she had started the whole mess. I pushed open the door and was met with a blast of humid air.

"Uh, it's hot," I complained.

"Welcome to California," Prue quipped. We crossed the street and went to a bakery. I opened the door and was immediately hit with a burst of cold air.

"That's so much better," I breathed, going to the back of the room where nobody could see us. It was mostly crowded and I was afraid that I wasn't going to find a seat when suddenly, I heard someone calling my name. I froze and whirled around, but was unable to recognize anyone through the crowd. I shrugged and continued to walk when someone tapped my shoulder. I jumped and saw Alex standing behind me.

"Alex? What are you doing here?" I asked. I haven't seen him in forever.

"Oh, well I was just around," Alex said, shifting uncomfortably. "What about you?"

I looked at him confusion but ignored the way he was acting. "I'm just visiting my sister," I said shortly.

"Is she okay?" Alex asked and I nodded.

"A little shaken, but she's okay," I told him. Alex sighed and looked behind him before grabbing my hand and pulling me to a corner. "Just, promise me you'll be careful okay?"

"Yeah, sure," I said, surprised by this sudden demand.

"I just don't want you to get hurt," he said and I took a step back, my brain whirring into overdrive.

"Why are you acting so weird?" I asked.

"Look, I know you're hiding something-"

"What the hell are you talking about?" I said sharply.

"Just promise me you'll be careful," Alex said, taking a step forward. I took another step back and eyed him warily.

"Are you apart of this?" I asked in a whisper. Alex's eyes grew wide and he shook his head quickly.

"No, of course not!" he said, putting up his hands up. My eyes glanced over the scratches that were there. Then suddenly, a memory flooded to the front of my brain.

"What are you doing here?" a deep voice asked. I struggled to escape his grasp but failed.

"You know what I do to trespassers?" he asked tauntingly.

"Let me go!" I screeched.

"You're not going anywhere," he said darkly. Suddenly, without warning a dark figure emerged from a tree and attacked the man.

"It was you," I whispered. "You were there, weren't you?" Alex didn't ask me what I meant but instead nodded his head.

"Look I can explain-"

"Were you following me?" I said, suddenly feeling fear and panic settle into my stomach. I didn't wait for him to answer and instead backed up until I bumped into a table.

"Patricia wait," Alex pleaded, stretching his arm towards me.

"Don't touch me!" I screamed loudly, causing everyone in the bakery to fall silent. "Stay the hell away from me," I warned.

"At least let me explain," Alex pleaded again, his eyes growing in worry.

"Excuse me, is this boy bothering you?" Someone said, resting his hand on Alex's shoulder. I looked up and my breath nearly caught in my throat.

It was officer Dean.

"We were just talking," Alex said, his eyes silently begging me for help. I wrapped my arms around myself and fought to control my emotions.

"Yeah," I finally said. "We were just talking."

"Well next time can you keep it down?" Officer Dean asked sharply, clearly annoyed. I nodded and looked to the ground.

"Patricia are you okay?" Prue asked, coming over and eyeing the scene curiously.

"I'm fine," I said, suddenly growing embarrassed. Everyone in the cafe started to talk again but they were throwing dirty glares at me.

"Can we go?"

"Yeah," Prue said, not pushing the subject any further. Well, not until we got outside.

"What happened?" Prue demanded.

"You can't trust anybody," I said bluntly. "You would think I would learn that time and time again but no, I always have to be the stupid one who thinks she can finally learn to trust people only to have it blow up in my face-"

"You're not answering my question," Prue said patiently.

"I just can't catch a break, can I?" I said softly.

"It can always be worse," Prue pointed out.

"I guess," I replied.

"It's true and you know it," Prue said and I rolled my eyes. "So are you going to tell me what happened or will I have to guess?"

"Alex was there," I said, my eyes glued to the littered ground in front of me. Prue stopped walking and looked me in the eye. She didn't ask me to elaborate, she jut knew what I meant.

"He was there?"

I nodded and cleared my throat. "He was following me. If he hadn't been there-" I shivered at the thought. "He stopped a guy from attacking me."

"Someone attacked you?" Prue asked and I nodded. he went silent for a few moments before meeting my eyes. "Look, Alex saved you, there's no need to be afraid of him-"

"Why was he following me?" I shot back. "Why didn't he tell me he knew?"

"What, was he supposed to announce that he knew what was going on? Would you have believed him?" Prue asked.

"I don't know," I said. "Maybe?"

"I'm not saying to tell him everything, but I have a feeling that if he wanted to hurt you, he would've already done it." I sighed deeply as we entered the hospital.

"I'm such an idiot," I finally said. "I caused this huge scene and I totally embarrassed him and myself."

"Better safe than sorry," Prue said. "I suggest that you keep your distance until you're positive that he's innocent." I nodded in agreement.

"Come on, I think we've been out long enough."

"Race you up the stairs?" I suggested.

"You realize that she's on the fifth floor, right?"

"What, are you afraid of a little challenge?" I said playfully.

"Please, I'm way faster than you," Prue shot back.

"I guess we'll see. We go when I say three. One, two-"

"Hey! That's cheating!" Prue yelled after me as I broke into a run.
