Wow I wished I'd gotten this one done sooner, but I had to update other fics first.
Now, this picks up where Angelique is healing Charlie, with a side spot for Umbridge, Ginny Weasley, and then Lily will show up. Charlie's going to be out for another chapter or two, but I guarantee when he wakes he won't be the same boy. Also more on Phantom's abilities, but since she's just a puppy we won't reveal too much yet.
Written with the help of my sister author AnnaBoleyna1536, and we don't own Harry Potter.
Enjoy!
To heal the bonds of Magical Twins:
The bonds of magical twins are one core split into two, but when one core is weak and the other is stronger, the stronger twin must heal the weaker. To heal the broken core, the stronger twin must focus part of their magic into the other's heart where the cores lie. To do so, the twin must feel as one with the other twin, from a happy memory to a powerful connection in their hearts that they both have given.
To begin the process, place the hand of the stronger twin over the other's heart, and remember a special time between the two of a powerful connection even if it be an infant's memory. Chant this spell as the memory replays in your mind:
Amet in me accipe animam suam vivificabit totam nibh. (Take my magic into his soul, revive his core to its whole.)
Potest reduci in potestate mea, non deesse animum meae. (My power within can bring it back, for my love to his heart it shall not lack.)
When the spell is chanted over and over with the memory the spot over the heart will warm up slowly, but the warmer it becomes the better the healing. When the process is complete the warmth will turn cold for a mere second, and that will give the weaker core the strength it needs to heal.
The core split between magical twins can grow stronger with the growing bond between each other, if one twin should resent another then the core in the elder twin will increase but only if their heart is strong. The younger twin's core will strengthen if the elder twin tries to help, but in the case of pure neglect and unloving connections, the weaker twin will not survive if not become a squib.
It is the responsibility of the elder twin to heal their brother or sister, for if one twin dies and the elder does nothing, then the elder twin will feel as if a hollow spot has grown in their heart, and their own magic will weaken, never to be revived.
"Alright…" Angelique rolled up her sleeves and carefully placed her hand over Charlie's heart. She tried to remember a time of when they were truly close, but even with her own bright memory it was difficult. Often people would remember bad memories more than good ones, but Angelique knew this was important.
'C'mon…I know there's something I just can't…' she continued to try and think, but once her magic began to spark in Charlie's heart she suddenly had a vision come to her. It was from long ago, when they were babies, probably before the whole showdown with Voldemort; they were in a crib together, just staring at each other with matching brown eyes, laughing and moving. Angelique began to remember the happiness they both felt, because they were close to each other all the time before that night.
Charlie's smile, it was as adorable as could be. He had only one tooth growing at the time, but his eyes shined each time he smiled. Angelique's would match, and they were happy twin babies. Charlie, it wasn't his fault, not completely. James and Lily had corrupted him all these years, and he never had the chance to see things other than what he'd been told. Angelique had watched from afar, all this time, deep down she wanted to take him and Abbey away from that home. It was too dangerous though, and until now Angelique had been ignoring her twin's crying core.
'I won't abandon you again.' The memory of their infant laughter grew powerful, and Angelique felt the magic ready to begin.
"Amet in me accipe animam suam vivificabit totam nibh, potest reduci in potestate mea, non deesse animum meae." She began to chant slowly, and the warmth grew over Charlie's chest. Poppy stayed back with the potions, waiting for Angelique to finish. "There…" when the cool feeling came Angelique slowly pulled away.
"Ms. Potter, would you like to give him the potions?" Angelique turned to Poppy.
"You want me to?"
"It seems to me that he'll be in good hands if he's cared for by you. I'll explain everything to the headmaster and Minerva once they arrive, for now I think you should do as you wish." She handed Angelique the proper potions and a salve, one was a healing potion for the bruises, the other was a nutrition potion for safety since Charlie was thinner than usual, and the salve would be to keep his core stable while it healed.
"Thank you." Angelique uncorked the healing potion and gently opened Charlie's mouth to pour it down his throat. Secondly she gave him the nutrition potion, and then she began to rub the salve over his chest, but stopped when she felt a bump on one of his ribs. "Madame Pomfrey, look here." Poppy looked and gently felt it.
"It looks like you were correct on the broken ribs dear, perhaps you should let me do the bandaging?" Angelique nodded, she finished up the salve carefully and Poppy began to slowly wrap up Charlie's chest.
"Poppy." McGonagall and Dumbledore returned with Ron. "What happened?"
"Headmaster, I think it would be best right now if you let Ms. Potter talk to you." Angelique looked up at the two.
"Angelique, Mr. Weasley told us that your brother injured himself when he tried to run from you."
"That's true, but he only ran because I overheard him talking to Ronald here." She looked to Ron. "I overheard them talking, Ron was trying to persuade Charlie to come here for help, but Charlie refused and when Ron mentioned James Charlie got scared."
"Scared?" McGonagall questioned. "Scared how?"
"I'm not sure." She didn't really, but she suspected. "You'd have to ask Charlie once he wakes up."
"Which based on the state of his body, might not be for a few days." Poppy spoke up. "His ribs are fractured and he had bruises on his chest, he's malnourished, and his core…his core was damaged but Ms. Potter here has seen to that."
"You healed his core?" Dumbledore was astounded.
"It's a special connection between magical twins; the book helped me through the steps. I hadn't realized how horribly damaged his core is, but I certainly wasn't going to let him be stuck in St. Mungo's for Merlin knows how long when I have the power to heal him." She looked down to Charlie and stroked his hair, moving it out of his face. Phantom came up next to his head and licked his cheek.
"A puppy…?" Ron stared at Phantom.
"My familiar, she's going to be with me wherever I go." Angelique patted Phantom's head. "Seems she feels the same as me." Phantom yipped at her.
"Well…" Dumbledore approached Charlie's bed. "I can sense that…he's weakened, but I didn't think it was this bad."
"He's been abused." Angelique blurted out.
"Ms. Potter we don't know that…"
"When he heard James' mentioned by Weasley he got scared, and his chest looks like it was either punched or kicked hard. I know he's got something to do with this…"
"Ms. Potter." McGonagall stopped her. "We will look into this, but until Mr. Potter awakens we won't know anything. For now we have to contact your parents…"
"How many times do I have to say it?" Angelique growled. "They. Are. Not. My. Parents." Her eyes flashed. McGonagall had a twinge of fear in her eyes, but it vanished as quickly as it came. "I don't care if you contact the bitch but the bastard is not allowed near Charlie."
"That's not up to you…"
"Minerva…" Dumbledore stopped the two. "I think right now, we had best just keep this alone. I will send word to Lily and Sirius, but James…if he is involved in this then it's best that we handle this until Mr. Potter awakens."
"I agree with Albus Minerva, someone has been abusing this boy but we won't know the full truth until later." Poppy sighed. "I'm going to let Ms. Potter be his main caretaker, seeing as she is training to be a healer herself she will do fine with him. I will care for him too but only when she is in training."
"That will do then." Dumbledore looked to Angelique. "I will send for Severus once classes are done, but Mr. Weasley…"
"Yes sir?"
"You can stay until after lunch, after that you must go to classes but you may come visit Mr. Potter before you go to bed."
"Thank you sir." Ron moved next to Charlie, on the same side as Phantom.
"Make sure you tell my sister too, she'll want to know about this. Oh and Professor McGonagall…?"
"Yes Ms. Potter?"
"If I were you I'd keep a tight watch on Granger, it seems to me that she's going to troublesome. She insulted Charlie and assumed I would help her study for her OWLs, but sadly…she's not worthy of my time."
"I…I can make sure she isn't a problem Ms. Potter, but I'm sure that she didn't mean much."
'Keep telling yourself that, don't know how that wannabe ended up in Gryffindor.'
"Alright, now let's get this done. I will send for Severus and Minerva, you can contact Lily and Sirius."
"As you wish Albus." They left the wing quickly but quietly. Angelique and Ron sat beside Charlie, but when Angelique saw Charlie sleeping peacefully and Poppy left into her office she cleared her throat to get Weasley's attention.
"How long?" she whispered.
"What?"
"How long has he been like this?" Weasley didn't want to talk, but Angelique could see he knew something. "Weasley, whatever you tell me stays between us until Charlie wakes. You have my word on that." Weasley seemed skeptical, but nodded.
"It's been since before the tri-wizard tournament, but I only found out after the year was up. At least that's what I think…" Angelique nodded. "His mum…he's been trying to talk to her but she hasn't been talking to him, she hasn't even wrote him."
"No surprise there."
"His dad…I can't…" the boy looked down.
"That's all I need, now…what about Granger and your sister?" Weasley glared.
"After all Charlie and I did for that muggleborn bitch she turned on us after the news came out on you, and Ginny…she won't leave him alone." The girl was likely still under the delusion of becoming Charlie's wife one day.
"You've stuck by him this whole time?" she whispered and he nodded. "Thank you." That surprised him.
"Why are you helping him though? I thought you'd love the chance to see him suffer." Angelique expected that, no one other than Severus, Remus, and Abbey knew of her true feelings for her twin.
"I never hated him Weasley; I was only disappointed with who he was and how he treated those related to him. Believe me there were times I wanted to set him straight, but who would've believed me?" he shrugged.
"I wanted to tell mum, she would've helped him…"
"Your mother?" Weasley jerked his head up.
"No…no I've said enough already." He looked back down at Charlie, but Angelique decided to let it be for now.
"Alright, why don't you stay with him for now? I need to go see Snape for a bit."
"Yes, I'll stay." Angelique shocked him with a kiss to Charlie's forehead, and then left the room with Phantom following after her. She'd gotten close to the dungeons but as she went to turn on the right corner a pesky cough made her stop.
"Ms. Potter." It was that toad Umbridge, standing in all her ugly pink glory. "I've been looking for you."
"I've been busy…" Phantom began to growl, and Angelique saw the blue eyes light up in warning.
"You're not allowed to have a dog Ms. Potter."
"She is my familiar; she is allowed to be here." Umbridge seemed surprised. "Why do you want to see me?"
"I wanted to see how you were faring as Professor Snape's apprentice." Angelique sighed.
"Easy Phantom." The puppy still had on a defensive position, but the growling lessened. "I am doing fine, you can ask Professor Snape yourself."
"I did, he seems quite fond of you dear."
"Well he did pick me out of an entire range of students; he even travelled around the world to see me."
"Ah yes you were a student at the American academy, top of your year."
"Yes, now is there anything else?"
"Your brother, have you seen him at all today?"
"Yes, he's in the hospital wing."
"Why?" Angelique stared at her; was this woman stupid or something?
"He's been hurt and he's getting the proper treatment, why else would he be there?" her voice was hard, and Umbridge seemed a bit insulted.
"Perhaps he is merely doing it to get attention…" Angelique felt her nerves snap, but kept her expression calm.
"I was just there, he isn't doing anything for attention and he won't be for the next two days. If you really are smart Umbridge then don't assume shit to make yourself feel better." Now Umbridge was really insulted, her face was starting to turn purple. "Oh and uh…you might want to lay off the sweets before your legs get so huge you won't be able to walk. Good day Umbridge." The woman stayed in silent shock as Angelique walked away, but she couldn't do anything without going through Severus, that was the way things worked with apprentices and their teachers. Any punishments were made by the masters, but the apprentice had good authority as long as they didn't abuse it.
"Arf!" Phantom barked when she spotted a large ginger cat at the end of the hall, and Angelique recognized the cat as Granger's. When Phantom slowly approached the creature it hissed, and Phantom growled but the growling got louder, as if Phantom was full grown. The cat hissed at Phantom, but when Phantom's eyes glowed again the cat began to meow in fear.
"Phantom…easy girl." The cat began to move away, but Phantom gave a loud bark that echoed over the walls.
"Woof!" Phantom gave a happy bark when the cat ran off. Angelique just laughed; at least she knew Phantom could hold her own against a fat cat.
"Silly girl, here have a treat." Angelique pulled out a bacon doggy treat from her bag and Phantom gladly ate it. "Good puppy." A stroke of Phantom's ears and the puppy sighed happily.
"Angelique!" the voice of Ginny Weasley made Angelique's nerves tense again. "Hi!"
"Weasley, shouldn't you be in class right now?" she didn't turn around to see her.
"I'm just getting back from the loo and I saw you here. I actually wanted to know if you'd come to Hogsmeade with my friends this weekend?"
'She actually has friends?' "I won't be able to, I have training this weekend." She stood and Phantom began to growl at the redhead.
"Oh what a cute puppy, can I hold her?" she reached down to pet her but Phantom gave a sharp bite at her fingers. "Hey!" Angelique smirked slightly.
"Obviously she doesn't want you to touch her, and as my familiar she has a good judge of a character." The girl looked a little upset. "Get to class before I dock points." Angelique turned to leave.
"Hey, you know I'm going to be your sister-in-law someday, so you might as well be nice to me." turning back to her Angelique let her contacts change her eyes from amethyst to red.
"What makes you think you have a chance? I could see before that Charlie isn't interested in a pre-school child like you, in fact I think even he's got standards." The redhead stamped her foot.
"I am not a child! I'm fourteen!"
"Well you certainly seem to act like a child, so I suppose you are one. Ten points from Gryffindor for backtalk, oh and another five for delusionary dreaming." Weasley paled.
"You can't do that! I'll tell McGonagall!"
"That woman doesn't scare me, and neither do you. Get to class now, or I'll dock twenty more." Phantom growled with Angelique's words, and Weasley just ran back down the corridor with a red face. "Thanks for your help Phantom."
"Arf!" came the happy response.
"Alright let's go, Severus will be wondering where we've…"
"Ms. Potter!" right before Angelique could walk off again Professor Flitwick came trudging over to her.
'What is it now?' "Yes?"
"Sorry to disturb you I understand you were on your to Snape's class, but Lily Potter is here to see you. She's in the hospital wing."
"Thanks for telling me, come Phantom." Flitwick disappeared down another corridor, and Angelique just made her way back to the hospital wing. Lily was there talking with Poppy, but when she saw Angelique she ran up as if to hug her.
"Grrrrr." Phantom growled and Lily stopped.
"Down Phantom, I see you got the message." Angelique picked Phantom up.
"Yes, I…oh I can't believe I wasn't there for my baby boy." She had tears in her eyes.
"Your baby boy, whom you left alone with his deadbeat godfather that had to always work and left him alone while you were busy with the divorce?" Lily had been trying so hard to get Angelique and Abbey to see how sorry she was, and in the process she had been ignoring Charlie. "Weasley told me Charlie has tried to write to you, yet you haven't done a damn thing…again." Poppy left the two alone, she knew what was coming.
"Angelique, please understand I've been trying…"
"Trying to regain my respect and love which you never had, you and Black have been ignoring Charlie the same way you ignored Abbey and me, but this isn't about me anymore. My twin brother you and James stole from me is lying in a hospital bed with his core trying to heal itself, all because you and your bastard ex-husband have been trying to make him something he isn't."
"W-What…his core?"
"His core is weakened from what appears to be abuse and neglect, and I wouldn't put stress out either." Weasley was behind Angelique, but he stayed quiet. "I have done what I need to and I am going to take care of him."
"You shouldn't have to, let Poppy do it."
"He is my brother; his core is healing because my magic is connected to his. I will care for him just like I did Abbey all these years, but you…you are not going to hurt him again or Abbey."
"Angelique I made mistakes, I know I was a horrible mother to you and your sister but please give me a chance…"
"You had your chance, and I'm not going into this again. I have watched you over the years and from what I gather you never knew how to be a proper mother, and yet when I was three I learned how to care for a newborn baby. Yes you made mistakes, but you never made up for them and never would have if you and everyone else hadn't found out I am Voldemort's real enemy."
"Yes I know! I will make it up to you and Abigail!" now she sounded desperate.
"Alright that does it, I thought that you had come here to check on your son but instead it's just a ruse to talk to me. You can't take a hint can you?"
"You are my daughter, I'm your mother, and I just want us to be close." That did it, Angelique's eyes turned blood red again and her magic flared around her.
"You. Are. Not. My. Mother. You never have been and you never will be, even if I came from your womb you neglected me not long after Charlie and I were born. I don't know how often I've told you these things, but you clearly can't get it through your head that I don't need a mother." Her magic calmed down after speaking, though Phantom even seemed a bit scared.
"Angelique…" Lily was close to crying.
"This is my final thought; you are not fit to be a mother. You are a failure, and I don't care what you say or what you try, you will never succeed in being my mother." Lily's face broke at those words, and tears began to fall from her eyes.
"Angelique…" Severus showed up in the room with Abbey, but when they saw Lily they stopped.
"Mum…?" Abbey saw the tears, but she also saw Angelique's angry red eyes. Lily covered her face and ran out of the hospital wing, but no one bothered to stop her.
"How much of that did you hear?" she looked to Severus.
"The final part, I think you really cut into her." Abbey walked up to hug Angelique.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, I actually feel better than I did minutes ago." Phantom yipped and began to lick Abbey's face. "Oh yes this is Phantom, she's my new familiar."
"She's cute." Abbey pet Phantom's head. "How's Charlie?" Angelique took a moment to feel her twin's magic.
"He's healing alright, but the next few days will tell us more. I won't give up on him Abbey, you know I won't." she nodded.
"He needs you now." They both knew Charlie needed a new start, and both girls were willing to help him with that once he awoke.
"Angelique, take the next few days to yourself. I think your brother needs you more than I do, and don't worry about training or homework, you can catch up next week." Angelique would normally protest against not having work to do, but with Charlie she would have enough work to gain for her healer career.
"Thank you sir." Angelique and Abbey went over to Charlie and sat with Ron. They spent two hours with him before Abbey and Ron had to leave for their classes, and then Severus gave Angelique more potions while she began to help Poppy give him a sponge bath and redress his chest. Charlie was getting the best care they could give him, but once he was healed they all wondered what he'd think when his own twin sister cared for him and saved his life.
Sorry about the wait, just been busy again. Now someone did point out that I gave Abbey a cat and a rabbit, that was a slight error but now she has two pets but only one is a familiar.
Now the next chapter will have Angelique seeing more of the Weasleys while she's healing Charlie, and I will say now that she will likely grow close to Molly Weasley, she and Abbey both. It will also have her growing closer to Severus, and I'm not sure yet but I'll likely bring in Sirius or Remus or both. Is Angelique going to put a nail in Sirius like she did Lily? Or is Severus going to do it for her?
