Chapter 25
Lizzie felt kind of sorry for Miranda as she saw how much her friend struggled right now, and one thing was for sure: she had to do something to help her friend out, or Miranda would definitely want herself into a deep hole because of the big embarrassment that she had to endure today. The three sat there in total silence till Gordo returned with the drink for Lizzie and shortly after that Lizzie whispered into her friend's ear: 'We need to talk. Follow me to the girl's bathroom.' Miranda just nodded in response and she already knew why her best friend wanted to talk her alone and she couldn't help but be kind of glad for that rescue attempt.
Trying her best to cover up her anxiety in front of her crush Miranda finally said with the best fake smile she could muster up right now: 'I hope it's okay to leave you guys alone for a couple of minutes, because me and Lizzie have to talk about some girl stuff, you know?' Knowing Lizzie well enough, Gordo was already aware of the fact that she was trying her best to come up with a plan to save her other best friend from any more embarrassment and so he answered back with not much hesitation: 'Yeah, but don't be away too long, because I think that me and Ryan know well enough that girls can be quite chatty.' Gordo watched the girls leave for the restroom area till they were out of sight, and of course he hoped that whatever idea his girlfriend may come up with in the end would work out one way or another.
After a few minutes of silence Gordo asked: 'So how do you like Hillridge so far Ryan?' Even if Ryan didn't want to show it in front of Gordo, Lizzie, and especially Miranda he was glad for the topic change as he was feeling a little bit bad right at this moment for acting like some love-sick teenager and he hoped that he didn't embarrass himself that much in front of his new friends here in Hillridge.
'I like it here so far, of course I still miss my friends from my hometown but I'm also glad to have met some new nice people here in my new home that quickly,' Ryan finally replied and with being able to connect to Lizzie, Gordo and Miranda who was kind of cute even if they both had just met, he was confident that he wouldn't have that such big adjustment issues during the first year at the Hillridge Highschool. Meanwhile, back in the girls' restroom, Miranda sighed and said: 'Oh God! I can't believe that I'm acting so weird around him, why can't I behave like a normal being instead of some love-sick teenager?' Softly she let her head hit the wall, covering her face with both hands and she hoped that her long-time good friend could come up with any kind of solution to avoid that she would further embarrass herself.
Lizzie gently stroked the back of her good friend as she tried her best to offer some words of consolation. 'I know that it's easier said than done, trust me, I was in the same situation as you are now when I had a crush on a guy for the first time. It's okay to be nervous.' Miranda was thankful for the kind words, very glad to know that she was always able to find the right words to say, and it took a couple of minutes but Miranda was finally able to calm down a little bit. After a few minutes of silence between them, she took one more deep breath before she asked, 'So what should I do now? Because I feel so lost right now, and I'm also scared that Ryan might not only think that I'm really weird, but that he doesn't return my feelings.'
Lizzie thought about everything that her other best friend had just said, before she replied: 'Calm down Miranda, don't be so pessimistic about the whole thing of you and Ryan getting together as couple, the only important thing right now is that you don't rush anything, and you can count on my help in this matter till the end.'
'Thank you. That means a lot to me. And you're absolutely right; I really need to stop worrying so much or else I'm certainly screwing everything up before I even have the chance to reveal my feelings to Ryan.' Lizzie was glad that her best friend had come to this conclusion after her little pep talk and was happy to have been able to cheer her a little bit.
They continued to talk for a couple more minutes, before Miranda left the restroom with Lizzie in tow in a much better mood than she had entered it quite a while ago. With a big grin on her face Lizzie then announced their return as they finally returned to the table: 'I hope you two weren't that bored while we were away to talk about some girls' stuff.' Gordo grinned back at her and almost instantly replied, 'we talked about a lot of guys stuff while you girls were gone doing some gossiping.' As Lizzie sat down next to Gordo again, she playfully hit him on his right shoulder and Gordo couldn't resist acting like that playful punch had really hurt him a lot.
