Chapter 25
The next day…
"So, what's this festival supposed to be for, anyway?" asked Soul as the two couples walked towards the festival grounds.
"Mmm…I think it's a traveling group that initiates festivals in whatever town they go to. They haven't been in DC for almost 10 years so we should check them out before they leave again," said Tsubaki who was walking next to Black*Star, their fingers intertwined.
"Sounds cool. I wonder what they will be doing," said Maka, curiously.
"Well, we're about to find out!" shouted Black*Star catching everyone's attention. He pointed out and continued to speak. "It's right over there!"
He was right. Between two houses, which were on either side of a very narrow road, bright decorations and people could be seen. The four sped up, wanting to get a closer look and, as they passed to the other side of the buildings, they gaped.
Bright streamers and balloons littered the skies and decorated the buildings in the open courtyard. Stalls had been set up all along the roads with vendors selling all sorts of food and others having games set up with prizes on the panels behind them.
"This is amazing! There hasn't been a festival like this since the end of the war festival," said Maka, happily. She sped ahead of the group and began inspecting some of the game stalls, trying to find which she wanted to try first. Soul chuckled and, nonchalantly, made his way towards his energetic girlfriend and meister, Black*Star and Tsubaki not far behind.
Maka finally decided on the shooting game in which she would have to hit three small targets on a bulletin board.
"Man, Maka, you're sure acting like a little kid right now," mocked Black*Star, grinning at his childhood friend.
"I am not! Even someone my age can have a little fun. I'm not even an adult yet," whined Maka while puffing up her cheeks, annoyed by the mocking.
"Naw, he's right Maks. I don't mind, though. You look cute," said Soul, causing Maka to blush at the compliment.
"Wow, Soul, never pegged you for the kind to like little girls," teased Black*Star, earning an irritated look from Soul. Black*Star merely chuckled and Soul rolled his eyes before turning back to the shooting game.
"Alright, Maka, let's see which of us is the best," challenged Soul. Maka nodded in agreement and they both turned.
"I want to try, too," said Tsubaki, moving up next to Soul.
"Your god obviously has to put you guys in your place!" boasted Black*Star, eliciting eye rolls from the other three.
"Alright, kids," said the old stall keeper. "Ya gotta shoot all three targets and ya have to hit it in the winner's circle. The more winner's circles you hit the better your prize."
Maka inspected the targets and each were small and circular, each with a diameter of only about three inches. In the middle was a small green circle, surrounded by black, and had the word 'Winner!'.
"Alrighty, you kids ready?" asked the stall keeper. Each lifted up their small handguns and aimed out in front, Maka and Tsubaki using both hands and the boys only one. "Yer mark, get ready, GO!"
Each shot at the targets, Maka squeaking in surprise as she shot the gun, not realizing how loud it would be. Liz and Patti made much less noise than a real gun. When each person's three rounds were up, the clicks from pulling the trigger on an empty gun sounded.
"Alright! Put yer gun on the table 'n' lessee how ya kids did," said the old man, watching each place the gun on the table. He spun around and began to inspect the targets, starting with Maka's. "Hmm…blondie, you managed to hit one winner's circle, though it was the only target ya managed to hit."
"Aww…I was hoping to do better…" said Maka, pouting.
"Mr. Albino here hit two of 'em. Pretty good for only using one hand," said the old man as he inspected Soul's.
"Only thing a cool guy could do," said Soul, coolly, before patting Maka on the head to console her failure.
"The big-titted- ahem, pardon, I mean the beautiful young lady here, hit two targets but only got one winner's circle," said the old man, changing what he called Tsubaki when he noticed the dark glare from Black*Star.
"Boo…I thought I'd have better aim after all my training throwing shuriken," said Tsubaki, downed. Black*Star stretched out to pat her on the head, saying something like 'Don't worry, your god still loves you'.
"Hm…Well this, this is quite interesting," said the old man as he inspected Black*Star's targets.
"How'd I do, pops? Just give it to me straight, I got all of them dead center didn't I," said Black*Star, leaning against the table and rubbing his nails against his shirt, looking arrogant.
"Ya…didn't hit a single target," said the old man, bluntly.
"…Huh?" said Black*Star, frozen in confusion.
"Ya heard me. Ya didn't hit a damn target. Even blondie over there, who looked like she ain't held a gun her entire life, did better 'en ya," said the old man, baffled by how badly Black*Star sucked. Soul and Maka couldn't help but burst out laughing, Tsubaki trying to stifle hers off to the side.
"W-Well obviously I didn't. I had to go easy on these dumbasses so I missed them on purpose," said Black*Star trying to cover his folly.
"Whatever you say, dumbass!" shouted Soul, the trio continuing to laugh.
"Now then, young'un, what'd ya like as a prize, seeing as ya won against all of yer friends," said the old man, causing Soul's laughter to die down.
"Hm…babe, what do you want? Your pick," said Soul, looking over to Maka whose laughter had also died down.
"Soul, you don't have to. Look, they have ear buds. Weren't you complaining one of the sides on yours died? You should get it," said Maka, not wanting Soul to waste his prize on her.
"Maks, come on, I played to win for you," said Soul, smiling at her.
"Well ain't that the sweetest. Ya better take him up on his offer, blondie. Ain't many guys who'll do something like that for a girl these days," said the old man, leaning over the counter towards them. Maka blushed and took Soul's hand, intertwining their fingers, and pointed towards a large stuffed kitten doll that looked absolutely adorable. The stall keeper handed her the animal and she hugged the animal to herself, trying to hide her blush behind it.
"Stop being all lovey dovey and pick the next game! I can't have Soul showing me up on being a good boyfriend!" shouted Black*Star, annoyed, and causing Tsubaki to sweat-drop next to him.
A couple hours later…
"Yay! I won Soul! I won, see?" said Maka, excitedly, after winning a water shooting game.
(A water shooting game [I don't remember the name so I'm calling it this] is a game in which you shoot water into a small hole which is attached to a pipe and fills a small, clear, cylindrical container. Whoever gets the most water in it before time is called wins)
"Maka?" called a familiar voice, forcing Maka and Soul from their small celebration.
"Kid? You're here, too? I thought you'd be drowning in work," said Maka, surprised that her friend made time to walk around the festival.
"Well…I did, however, Liz seemed very…intent on getting me out of the Death Room and into sunlight. I'm not quite sure when was the last time I left to go back to the mansion. Not needing sleep can be a curse sometimes," said Kid, seeming annoyed.
"Kid~, why did you leave the game- Oh, hey guys!" said Liz, enthusiastically.
"Hey Liz! You and Kid on a date?" said Maka, emphasizing 'date'.
"W-Well, I mean…we have been a thing for awhile and, this is our first date, so yes," said Liz, tripping over her words a bit.
"How cute! Also, you look great Liz!" said Tsubaki, enthusiastically, receiving a nervous laugh from Liz.
"So, Kid," said Soul as he looped his arm around Kid's neck and pulled him close. "How's the situation with Patti? Maka couldn't help but spare the juicy details."
"W-W-What? You know?" shout/whispered Kid, shocked. Soul nodded, causing Kid to sigh in defeat.
"Well, a couple days after Liz and I became a couple, we had slept together, but last week, I could not ignore Patti's advances and gave in to her. Liz found out, she and Patti had a bit of a fight, and it appears I am going to be serving as Patti's 'toy' twice a week," explained Kid, causing Soul's face to contort in confusion.
"I…there are no words. There's no way I can be cool in this situation," said Soul, baffled that Liz would agree to such a thing.
"Liz didn't really have much of a choice, just to let you know. Patti threatened to sleep around if she didn't have some form of proper release from her sexual desires. Liz thought I would be much more responsible than any random man so she caved to her sister's pressure," continued Kid.
"Remind me never to go against Patti," said Soul, bluntly, before releasing Kid's neck.
"Dually noted," said Kid, sighing after remembering his previous defeat.
"Boys! Come on, we're making it a triple date!" shouted Liz, causing Kid and Soul's attention to shift. They noticed Liz and Maka waving towards them and they drifted off to go with them.
This is getting a bit crowded, but it'll still be fun, thought Soul as they walked.
So? What did you guys think?
Review and let me know and until next time...byeee :D
