Ill

In the morning, I was woken by Bella's tossing and turning. I gently shook her arms.

"Wake up baby."

A cute little moan came from her as she buried her face in my chest. I held her to me and stroked her hair out of her face as she fisted one hand on my chest.

"What's wrong baby?"

"Headache."

"I'm sorry baby. Try and get some more sleep if you can."

She moved about for a bit before finally becoming comfortable when she ran from the bed and emptied her stomach of its contents. I slipped my pyjama pants on before grabbing my top and a towel. I wrapped the towel around Bella's body, massaging, soothing circles into her back. When she finished she leaned back into my chest and I carefully wrapped my arms around her. Taking her arms I slid my shirt over her head and wrapped the towel around her again, in an attempt of keeping her warm.

"Can you stand baby?"

Weakly, she tried standing only to fall back into me.

"Don't worry baby. I got you."

I lifted her into my arms and carried her back to bed lying her down under the comforter.

"There you go baby. Get some rest; I'll get you some chocolate and water."

I threw a top on and made my way to the kitchen where Eliza was standing cooking some bacon, eggs and sausages.

"Morning Edward."

"Good morning Eliza. Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, thanks. Although Olly is quite the kicker. He rolls around a lot too."

"Where is Olly?"

"He's still asleep. Where's Bella?"

"She's not feeling well. I left her in bed. I'm just going to get her some chocolate and water and have a quick shower."

"Okay. Breakfast will be done in ten to fifteen minutes. I'll keep it warm for you."

"Thank you Eliza."

"No problem."

I grabbed some chocolate and a glass of water before returning to my wife. Sitting on the edge of the bed I moved the hair out of Bella's face.

"Can you sit up for me baby?"

She was too weak to move, so I helped her sit up on my lap.

"Here you go love. You'll feel better soon enough."

"Thanks honey."

She slowly ate the chocolate and sipped the water, before relaxing into me.

"Let's get some clothes on you then you can lie down again. You'll freeze otherwise."

"Okay."

Her eyes half open I lay her on the bed and found a bra, panties, and shorts. I pulled the panties and shorts on her then slid my top off her and helped her into the bra before putting my top back on her. I lay her back in bed, placing a comforter over her.

"Get some rest baby. I'll check on you later."

"Thanks honey. Love you."

"I love you too Bella."

I kissed her on the forehead before gathering some clothes and headed into the bathroom.

After a quick shower I threw my clothes on and went back into our bedroom. Bella had fallen asleep again, so I kissed her forehead and left the room closing the door behind me. I walked into the kitchen to find Olly and Eliza eating breakfast.

"Morning Olly."

"Morning Daddy."

"How's breakfast? Eliza didn't poison it did she?"

He started laughing and chocked on a piece of bacon.

"You okay now Olly?"

He nodded his head once he'd finished coughing.

"There's some food left for you Edward. Take what you want of it."

"Thanks Eliza."

I took a plate of food and poured some orange juice before taking a seat and starting to eat.

"Where's momma?"

"She's not very well today so I told her to go back to sleep."

"What's wrong with her?"

"She just has a headache and a sore tummy. She'll be better soon but we need to stay quiet today so she can get better."

"Okay daddy. Can we watch a movie again today?"

"Of course Olly."

"Don't forget to do your homework Olly."

"I know Eliza. You will help me today?"

"You should know this by now Olly. We always do our homework together on Sunday's."

"I like doing it with you."

"Well finish up and go get it. I'll be in, in a minute."

"Love you Eliza."

He threw his arms around her neck before running into the living room.

"Do you always help with his homework?"

"Every Sunday, I leave time to sit in his room and help him. It's not difficult. Most of the time he just has to learn some spellings or read a story or piece of text and answer simple questions. He's a smart boy for his age but it's a way we get to do something together without interference from our mom or stepdad."

"It's good to see you try and find time. Lots of people would leave him to work it out himself. You're a really good sister to him."

"Thanks Edward."

"You finish up and I'll clear up. I'm going to head over to the hospital and see if my dad has anything for Bella's headache and then get the groceries for the next few days."

"Okay. Call me if you need any help."

"I'll be fine Eliza."

We finished our breakfast in a comfortable silence before Eliza cleared her plate and placed it in the sink and went into the living room after giving me a hug.

I finished up and washed the dishes, leaving them to dry. I checked the fridge and cupboards to see what I'd need to buy at the shop. Picking up some money from the grocery jar, I went into the hall. I looked into see Eliza and Olly leaning over a book.

"I'm going to head out in a minute guys. Is there anything either of you need?"

They both shook their heads smiling at me.

"I'll just check on Bella, then I'll be off. I have my phone on me at all times. My numbers by the phone in the kitchen. If you need anything just call and I'll come back straight away."

"Okay. See you later Edward."

"Be safe guys."

"Bye daddy."

"Bye Olly."

I carefully opened the bedroom door, to see my beautiful wife curled up in a ball, with her hands tucked under her head. Quietly, I made my way over to the bed. I kneeled on the edge of the bed and kissed the side of her head. Her face turned up as a cute little smile appeared.

"I'll be back soon love."

I made my way from the room, closing the door tightly after me. Grabbing my leather jacket, I opened the front door and left.

After getting the food for the next week, I went to the toy shop and bought a loud of things for Olly's birthday and in general. I jumped into the car again and headed to the hospital.

"Hello Edward. What can I do for you?"

"Hey Charlotte, is my dad free?"

"Let me just check."

She tapped away at her computer.

"He's got fifteen minutes before his next patient. I'll let him know you're coming up."

"Thanks Charlotte."

"No problem Edward."

I made my way through the halls until I reached my dad's office. I knocked once before entering.

"Hello, son. What are you doing here?"

"I was wondering if you had anything for headaches."

"What's wrong?"

"Bella woke up with a blinding headache and has been asleep all day so far. I was wondering if you had anything to help her."

"I can give you some painkillers for her. She'll need one only when she can't bear the pain. I'd say one just after lunch, one around three o'clock, another at about six this evening and one before she goes to sleep. If it's not any better then bring her in tomorrow and I'll give her a check-up."

"Thanks Dad."

"No problem son. I'll just get those painkillers."

He left the room and came back a few minutes later with a small pot.

"Here you go son. These should help."

"Thank you dad. I'd better be off."

"Okay. I'll see you soon son. Don't forget to come over on Thursday. Esme's going to do a nice dinner."

"We may not be able to make it. There have been some… Well there's a small situation we are in and I can't guarantee we'll be there."

"Is everything alright son?"

"For now, yes. I'll explain, everything when we have some more information."

"I trust you son. I hope everything ends up alright. I'll see you soon."

"Thank you dad. I'll see you soon. Tell mom I said hello."

"I will son. Have a good day."

I left his office feeling a little better now that I could help my wife who was in pain. I drove home quickly and grabbed the bags of food before running up the stairs. I unlocked the door and stepped inside.

"I'm back."

"Hey Edward, we're in here."

I stood in the living room doorway and saw Eliza and Olly snuggled up together watching a movie.

"Has Bella appeared today?"

"No. I think she's still asleep."

"Okay. I'll check on her in a minute. I've got chicken and chips for lunch or there's salad. I'll put it on in a ten minutes."

"Thanks Edward."

I quickly put everything away and picked the rest of the open chocolate bar up and the tablets Carlisle had given me. I slid my shoes off by the door and made my way to my bedroom. Slowly, I opened the door to see Bella, lying on her back with her eyes open, looking up at the ceiling. I crawled into the bed with her and pulled her onto my chest.

"Hey baby. Are you feeling any better?"

"A bit. My head is still pounding."

"Take this. I went to Carlisle. He gave me these to give you. He said they should help with the pain."

"Thanks honey."

She swallowed the tablet with a sip off water and lay back down on me.

"I've got some chocolate for you as well baby."

She moaned as she bit down on the chocolate. When it was all gone she licked her lips and nuzzled her face into my chest.

"You're freezing baby. Let me get you another blanket."

"I'm fine."

"No you're not. Let's get you warmed up."

I moved from under her and grabbed a thick blanket from the end of the bed. I lifted Bella up and wrapped it around her arms and body several times.

"I can't move now."

"Well then, I guess I'll have to do everything for you today then."

She made a weird grunting noise as I pulled her too me again.

"Are you hungry baby?"

"Yeah."

"Do you want some soup? I can heat a small bowl up for you."

"That sounds nice."

"Just get some rest and I'll bring it in for you."

"Love you Edward."

"I love you too baby."

I left her snuggled up tight with several layers. I stuck a tray of chicken nuggets and chips in the oven and put a small salad together. After heating the soup I took it into Bella and feed her as she leaned against my shoulder- too weak to move. Once she was done, she fell asleep and I left her to get some rest.

I called the others in and we had a nice quiet lunch as every time one of us said anything Olly would shush us and tell us to be quiet so Bella can sleep. It was amazing to see how much he cared for Bella after such a short amount of time. We spent the afternoon watching movies; I gave Bella her painkillers when she needed them and carried her into the living room so she could sit with us all. Olly sat in Eliza's lap whilst Bella was in mine. She fell asleep part of the way through the movie and I just watched her the rest of the time. I'd made the others a bowl of popcorn that Olly ate most off. At six, I gently woke Bella up again and gave her the next painkiller. She was barely awake and fell asleep again after she'd swallowed it. I noticed she had warmed up and was glad she wouldn't get pneumonia. I sat with her until it came time to prepare the dinner. I lay her on the couch and lay a blanket over her.

"Lasagne okay for you guys?"

"Yes. That's fine thanks Edward."

I left the room and prepared the dinner. As I set it on the table I called the others in.

"Thanks Edward."

"It looks amazing daddy."

"I'm glad you think so Olly. I'm just going to wake Bella up so she can eat something."

"Okay daddy."

I went back into the living room and scooped Bella onto my lap. I unwrapped her from the blankets and put her arms through the sleeves of one of my thick jumpers.

"Wake up love. You need to eat something."

She moaned, burying her face into my neck.

"Come on baby. You need to eat something for yourself and our baby."

"Love you Edward."

"I love you too baby. Is your headache any better?"

"Yeah, thank you honey. It's still bad but bearable for now."

"Do you think you could eat some lasagne? It's nice and hot and will keep you warm."

"Just a bit. I'm not very hungry, just tired and sore."

"I know baby. You'll get better soon. Let's get some food into you and then you can go back to sleep."

"Thank you honey. I love you."

"I love you so much baby."

I carried her into the kitchen and put her into her chair, kissing her forehead.

"Momma are you feeling better?"

"A little bit Olly. Still not completely better but thank you for asking sweetie."

"I hope you get better soon momma."

"Thank Olly."

We ate dinner in a relative silence as Bella kept holding her head. When we were done I gave Bella another painkiller before caring her to our room and tucked her in bed.

"Go to sleep baby. I'll be in later. Don't forget its Olly's birthday in the morning."

"I completely forgot. What am I going to get him?"

"Don't worry baby. I got it covered; I got plenty of toys for him when I was out today."

"You're a life saver honey. I love you."

"I love you too baby. Get some rest."

"Mmhhm."

I kissed her forehead and switched the light off before retreating from the room. I noticed the dishes had been cleaned and Eliza was reading a story to Olly. I sat in the kitchen marking some work for a while before Eliza came in.

"Olly's asleep. I'm going to bake a birthday cake."

"Do you do that every year?"

"Since he joined my family we've had these little traditions. I'd bake him a cake and he'd help make mine. Of course he when he was younger he'd just try mixing everything together, now he helps weighing things as well."

"Traditions are important. They remind us of the love we have for each other. Every valentine's day Bella and I go to this meadow we found when we were eighteen and take a packed lunch. We'd sit there all day and then I'd take us out for dinner. We did it when we were younger and then we couldn't do it while I was away but started again last year."

"That's so sweet. You two are perfect together. I can tell you'll be great parents to your child. Have you thought of any names?"

"It's still early but ever since I found out names have been flying through my mind twenty four seven."

"What's your favourite so far?"

"I like Bethany Elizabeth or Beatrice. For a boy I don't know, I kind of like Andrew or Christopher."

"They're good names. Have you asked Bella?"

"No. I haven't had a chance. I think we're going to take it slow though. We've been waiting a long time for this to happen and at first she didn't believe it. She's worried it won't turn out right. That she isn't strong enough to protect the baby."

"She's the strongest person I know. There won't be any problems. I'll talk to her."

"Thanks Eliza. She might listen to you."

"No problem. Now this cake isn't going to bake itself."

"All the ingredients you may need are in this cupboard bowls, spoons, scales and whatever else you may need are in that one. I need to bring some things in from the car so leave the front door unlocked; no one will come by at this time. It's a relatively quiet area."

"Okay."

It took four trips to get all the toys and games from the car into my apartment but I got there in the end.

"You didn't buy all that for Olly did you?"

"I may have."

"You shouldn't have done that Edward. I was going to get him something after school tomorrow."

"Well I've got them now. All I need to do now is wrap them up."

"Thank you. He'll love them dad."

She gave me hug before turning back to the cake, tears forming in her eyes.

"Your help means so much Edward. I can't thank you enough. You've taken me and Olly in and treated us like your own. You have no idea how much it means to me that Olly will have someone to look after him."

"I just want you both to be safe and happy."

After all the presents were wrapped I wrote a card and signed it for Bella and I. Eliza pulled her cake out and left it to cool whilst she whipped up some icing.

"I'm going to head to bed Eliza."

"Okay Edward. I'll finish this up then be heading to bed."

"Good night."

I gave her a quick hug before heading to my bedroom. Once I'd finished getting ready for bed I switched the light off and climbed in next to my sleeping wife. She moved so her head was leaning on my shoulder.

"Love you Edward."

"I love you too Bella."

I kissed her forehead before falling to sleep with my arms around my beautiful wife.
