"I hope the children aren't any causing trouble." A young woman muttered to herself. Her ebony above the shoulder-length hair swayed side to side; tickling the sides of her neck as she ambled upwards to the top step of the long cemented stairs. She held grocery bags in one hand and in the other, her purse.
Once she reached the top of the stairs that led to her house, the young woman smiled softly. "Home at last." She expected to see her children running around the shrine grounds but didn't not one figure anywhere outside. Yet the lights from inside showed people walking around from where she stood.
Heaving the bags, the young woman sighed while she neared the door to her home. In a swift movement the door was swung opened and the bags she held were taken away by her children. Smiling happily at her little ones she kissed them on the crowns of their heads and entered the house.
"How was work mommy?" Her youngest child asked, clinging to her side and tugging at her black blazer. This made her turn her attention towards her little girl that grinned ecstatically to see her.
Her eyes glimmered with delight when her daughter tilted her head to the side when she didn't quickly answer her. Scooping her up, she glanced towards the kitchen and watched her oldest children who were putting the few groceries she bought away for her glance in her direction.
"It was fine sweetie. Mama is just tired from walking so much," she replied and placed her daughter back down on the wooden floor and guided her to the living room area.
"Why don't you help your brother and sisters with the groceries while I go check on your obaa-chan so that we can all eat dinner soon, okay?" She patted her daughter's head and grinned.
With a light jump and a skip, her daughter nodded quickly. "Okay mommy!" The young girl chirped and scampered off in to the kitchen with a smile on her face.
Putting her hands on her hips for a moment, the young woman nodded to herself and headed towards the stairs. A minute later she knocked on her mother's door. Smiling when she heard a small grumble she knocked once more."Mother? May I come in?"
"Of course dear." She heard her mother say and she went inside the room.
Stepping into the room, she noted that the window was ajar and she shook her head. "Mother it will be very cold later in the night. I wouldn't want you catching a cold."
Her mother sighed and nodded,"I know; but I've always left it open. I can't bear to see it closed." Feeling a hand pressed on her shoulder, the elder woman gazed up at her daughter.
Placing her fingers and palm against the window, the younger woman brought it down. Her bangs flowing about as the wind from outside blew in the room before the window closed completely. "I know mama."
In the house, the young woman placed her family's dinner on the table all set. "Ramen! Ramen! Ramen!" Her youngest daughter chanted and smiled in glee as she noticed a bowl just inches away by the rest of the evening meal.
"Now sweetheart, keep it down, you'll have your ramen in just a second." She replied as her daughter settled down.
Brushing her locks out of her eyes with the back of her hand, she glanced around the room and noticed her son wasn't sitting at the table. Although she already knew the answer to her question. Most likely checking out the shrine grounds.

"Damn freaking shard transporting us…."
Kagome shook her head for the umpteenth time as she glanced in Inuyasha's way. The hanyō was still grumbling over his now never-returning ramen and it seemed that he'd snap even more in any given moment. The schoolgirl sighed and turned to look at Sango.
The demon slayer smiled sheepishly towards her best friend. Sango knew that it was never good when Inuyasha was in a raging mood. Her gaze switched towards the monk who traveled beside her who was looking oh so innocently away from her. Although she knew of his intention and she narrowed her eyes
Soon the swirls of lights died down and they softly landed on the ground. Every head moved around to inspect their surrounds and two were merely surprised to see where they landed.
Miroku and Sango gazed around them and sighed wistfully. At least the world they landed in this time seem tranquil it still felt quite quaint to them. Shippou jumped down to stand near Kirara and stared up at the sky. It was a strange world like the few others. "Do you think that we'll find a jewel shard nearby?" The kitsune child mumbled to Kirara. The nekomata purred a response the kit took as a maybe.
The street lights made Kagome gaze up and spot a set of stairs slightly hidden by a few trees. Kagome gasped and gained the attention of a certain half-demon. Inuyasha rose a brow and followed her gaze.
"It's my family's shrine," Kagome whispered, her eyes scanning the steps that led to her home. Taking a few steps forward and away from her friends, her eyes shone with worry. She didn't want any danger inflicted on her family. "I wonder-"
"Ah-!" In the corner of her eye she could see a figure racing fast in her direction on a motorcycle. Inuyasha noticed the fast moving contraption and pulled her by the back of her blouse. In a swift movement she was resting against him and he felt the rush of wind when the vehicle passed them. The stranger pulled to a hasty stop and got off their motorcycle and bowed down in front of Kagome.
Their friends instantly rushed to her side and asked her if she was fine. Indigo eyes belonging to a certain monk wandered toward the suspicious looking contraption that reminded him of Kagome's metal moving instrument that she used. It certainly was an interesting traveling machine by the look of it. His brow rose at the clothing the man wore but that was expected since they seen so many different things these past days since they started this adventure.
The young man took off his helmet and ran towards the schoolgirl. "I'm so sorry Higurashi-san." His head declined as he apologized profusely. Inuyasha growled in irritation at the young boy.
Kagome placed her hand on Inuyasha's shoulder to calm him down and smiled at the stranger. "It is okay. I'm fine." The stranger sighed heavily. "That is good to hear. Although Higurashi-san, you should watch out when you cross the street. It is dangerous to cross in the night and what would your mother do if something happened to you." He had said, rubbing the back of his neck in relief that nothing horrible happened to the girl. "Yet I should know better when going by these parts."
"Damn right you should." The hanyō stated angrily; his golden eyes glowering fiercely down at the young man.
"Are you sure you'll be okay?" The stranger questioned, his eyes looking over at the strange-clad boy next to her. Kagome waved her hands in front of the man and kept on reassuring him once more. He nodded, gazing once more at the girl and then left on his merry way.
Inuyasha fisted his hand."Why I ought' a..." He should have taken him by his jacket and shook him from not looking out carefully.
"I'm fine Inuyasha, really. If it weren't for you I would have been hurt, but you're always protecting me." Kagome said.
The inu-hanyō turned his head skywards and shook his head. There will be a time when I can't protect you Kagome and when that time comes; I don't know what I'll do.
The sound of someone clearing their throat broke the moment and with sporting red cheeks, both hanyō and miko stepped sides apart from each other. Miroku; having a sly smile on his countenance, looked at his companions. "Kagome-sama, you said this was your family's shrine. Do you suppose that they are home?" Miroku questioned the school-girl.
With a nod, Kagome began walking towards the steps. "I think so, but perhaps we should first check if it is my family there. I wouldn't want to create a scene if I met a younger version of myself."
"You have a point," Sango said to her, turning to the school-girl and smiled warmly. Kagome returned the smile and locked arms with the taijiya,"I'm sure we won't have a problem if it's them. I've told my mother all about you, and of course about the others, and she'd be pleased to finally meet you. That is if my younger self does travel back in time in this world."
Sango nodded; from what she heard about the mother of the young miko by their hanyō friend was that she was like an older version of Kagome, sweet and motherly.
The young miko herself grinned from ear to ear, images of seeing her family made her feel content. Kagome thought back to how her brother's ecstatic questions about the yokai Inuyasha and herself would fight against, battles with reoccurring enemies and so many more. She didn't see them before this new quest started and she knew that her mother wouldn't be pleased to have not seen her in over a month. Her smile lessened at her
Shippou jumped on to the steps from his place on Miroku's shoulder and hastily scurried up the cemented staircase with Kirara following his tail. Once they all reached the top of the three minute ascend, the Inu-tachi gazed around as they stood by the torii gate.
It looks exactly the same. I'm glad. Kagome thought with joy and she had the sudden urge to rush to the front door and run into her mother's arms.
Inuyasha glanced around the property and noticed something different that Kagome couldn't have seen in the dark. The well house had some sort of chain around the front part of the entrance. A swift pang hurt him inside at the sight of it. Was it possible that the Kagome is this world never traveled back in time? If so...He thought as his golden-amber eyes traveled to the god tree. It still looked the same as ever.
His thoughts were broken when he sensed the presence of youki on the premise. "Oi, get behind me and stay there." Inuyasha whispered, catching the confusion in his companion's eyes. She obliged anyway and went behind him, but poked her head out to see what was wrong.
Sango heaved her hiraikotsu up and eyed everywhere to see what they were up against. Miroku on the other hand held a firm look in his eyes but something troubled him when sensed more youki around the shrine grounds.
He believed that there were no such things as demons in Kagome's time as he recalled the miko saying.
Shippou rose his hands in a stance to fight, his emerald eyes concentrated to help out his friends and fight alongside them.
Inuyasha placed a hand on the hilt of tessaiga and a growl escaped from his mouth in an act to make whoever it was to step out of the shadows. The sensation of the youki brushing around them made him tense, knowing that it was a weaker demon but there was something else among that.
One moment Kagome was standing right behind Inuyasha, the next she found herself held by her waist and safe when an attack was launched at them.
"Damn it!" Inuyasha muttered while covering his eyes from the attack. His eyes widened when he noticed the familiar streaks of yellow lights passing just right near him like the others. This was impossible! There was no possible way that another person create the kaze no kizu. However the evidence was right in front of him.
His companions had the same slack-jawed expressions when they gazed at the figure. Once settled back on the ground Kagome raised her hands in a stance of peace. "We aren't here to hurt you." Inuyasha stepped in front of her, shielding her in case the demon tried to do anything else.
"Then why are you here at all? Demons aren't supposed to show their forms out in public. If anything, you made everything worse with your friend here striking the first blow the humans would want to know what is up. Then the one in charge will come and take all of you out of here and I ain't going to help you get out of their hands." The demon had retorted. His hands loosened and he growled lowly as he mumbled,"I had enough trouble with Shippou's kit."
Kagome blinked various times when she heard the remark. "Wait, you know Shippou-chan?"
In return, all tension visible from his form, the young demon tilted his head to the side in utter confusion. "Shippou–chan? He isn't a kit. Wait a minute...how do you know Shippou? As a matter of fact who are you girl?" The stranger retorted.
Before Kagome could answer the boy's question Shippou popped out up from under Kagome's hair and scrunched his nose. Narrowed emerald eyes glared at the boy,"I am too a kit!"
The sword in the stranger's hand fell and it transformed into a rusted old sword. In the blink of an eye he whisked the young fox child from Kagome and surprised the kitsune child. Utterly uncomfortable by being held by his tail, Shippou began to effortlessly move and wiggle around to get out of the demon's grasp. His hands balled into fists and his legs flailed everywhere as he screamed. "Kagome! Help!"
Everyone raised their weapons in a stance to fight, but was surprised to see the demon inspecting the fox kit in his hold. The boy moved his face closer to Shippou, narrowing his eyes at the resemblance. "Your scent is the same like his alright. But that's impossible! You're five-hundred and sixty-seven years old. You're-"
"Isamu!" The boy visibly straightened and tensed at a girl's voice who had called his name.
"What are on earth are you doing? Do you know what could have happened if any ningen saw you with the tessaiga? What would mother say when she finds out that you did!"
The said boy groaned and his rubbed his temple. "I was just guarding the grounds and I sensed youki, three of them a-and look at this!" The boy now known as Isamu moved his hand, the one that held Shippou, and showed the fox child to her.
"What is...M-Mama!" Her eyes were wide when she noticed Shippou in her brother's grasp and called for her mother.
The children's mother quickly stalked over to the entrance of the door and her eyes narrowed the sight of the marks on the ground.
"Isamu! How many times have I told you to never use the tetsusaiga when you are here at the shrine! For goodness sakes, are you trying to cause trouble here? Your grandmother will not be pleased with this." Her gaze then trailed over to the people by the torii gate. If her eyes could have popped out of their sockets then they could have. And with strangers just outside our home no less!
Isamu let out a puff of air and his shoulders tensed. "Hold on a second Okaa-san, it wasn't my fault! These people were sneaking around the shrine grounds this late at night. As protector of the shrine-"
"Yeah…you are a really good protector with nearly damaging the torii gate of our family's shrine; I'm surprised mother didn't take away the sword Uncle gave you." His sister remarked as she crossed her arms.
With the light now on, the Inu-tachi could clearly see how they all looked. The teenaged girl was dressed in plaid jeans and a red blouse while the boy was dressed as a traditional shrine keeper. The look reminded Kagome and Inuyasha of how Kagome's grandfather was usually wearing. The woman's face was mostly concealed; although, she was wearing black jeans, a black blazer, and a pink shirt.
"Hey! I'm getting used to it and the old man said it'll take time until I completely master the kaze no kizu." The boy known as Isamu retorted to the teenaged girl whom in return merely rolled her eyes at her brother's retort.
Their mother placed her pointer finger and thumb on the bridge of her nose. She didn't know what would happen if they'd find out what came about right in the middle of the evening. "I'm sorry for the trouble, I hope no one was hurt and I-" She paused when the lighting on the shrine grounds illuminated their features.
It...couldn't be, mother said... The woman thought as she stepped toward the group. The red clothing... She stopped once she was feet away from the strangers who stood in front of her.
Uncomfortable with the look she was giving, Inuyasha shifted and narrowed his eyes to look at the woman. Her features reminded him of Kagome, her hair albeit up to her shoulders, held the same volume and thickness like the miko.
"Izayoi what is the matter?" The question made all heads turn from the woman to another.
Hands quivered at the sight before her and she didn't know whether to cry and hurry towards the person in her line of view, or back away and encase herself with her own memories and sadness.
Inuyasha heart picked up speed when he locked eyes with the elder woman standing yards away from him.
No matter how she appeared, the same hair, yet grayed with age, the structure of her countenance; he knew that it was Kagome.
