Heart Torn Asunder Chapter 24
The family whole once more Vlad, Dinah, and Ingeras exited the tent.
The sight that greeted them upon stepping out into the open is far from pretty.
All around the entire Turk army is decimated, not one of them left alive. The surviving vampires remaining from the massacre are finishing off the rest of the stragglers moaning and screaming on the ground in agony and desperate for relief from the suffering. Something the troops are all too obliging to do, relinquishing the invalid mortals of their blood.
Ingeras sobbed.
Hugging Ingeras close to her, stroking his temple, Dinah murmured "It's all right."
Vlad put a hand on Ingera's shoulder as they walked.
Ingeras held on tightly to both of their arms while in the middle of them.
Ingeras cringed away from every single vampire the family of three passed by. Dinah can't blame him. Each and every single one of them, people he knew before as acquaintances and friends, now stare at him in hunger for the blood in his veins.
Dinah and Vlad exchanged a look. They need to be watchful of this.
Ahead of them, moving out from behind a heap of wrecked tents, came Cazan. Normally one sees the old advisor hunched over with age and a little fatigue. That is not the case this time.
Cazan now stands tall erect and proud as if he's a much younger man. Having all of hindrances of being a mortal swept away can do that to you.
"You old goat," said grinned Vlad, pleased to see his confidant and advisor not one of the casualty's.
Relishing in his newfound strength and youth, Cazan said "I don't feel old. I have you to thank for that, Dinah."
Dinah nods in recognition of his sincere thanks and gratitude.
"How many are left," said Vlad.
"None, except for your son, of course," said Cazan, eyeing Ingeras in a way that made Dinah extremely uneasy. What Cazan says next increased the rising levels of anxiety to her nerves. "A distraction we can now dispense with."
Dinah swung her head around, finding the other vampires slowly closing in, their thirst for blood drawing them to Ingeras. He is the only human left standing. His blood calls to them.
Friends and comrades now turned enemy's.
Oh shit!
Dinah and Vlad just dealt with the Turks! Now they have this to contend with.
