Kurama's POV:
When I awaken, I decide to walk around the forest. The sun isn't even rising yet. We don't fight another team for another few hours. Though I'm sure it will probably begin in a couple hours. Some teams from yesterday were really menacing.
The morning breeze is calming and helps me relax and think about my current situation. I am on an island filled with demons who want my beating heart and I have my team protecting me, but I decide to leave my only safe haven. A good idea? I don't think so either.
I come across an open field, the wind blowing at a different direction. Something feels off. A soft cackle approaches me from behind. I turn around sharply and cautiously. I'm facing a discolored sumo wrestler with a spiked choker.
"Well, well. What do we have here? The one they call the vessel of Yoko Kurama." He smiles at me, saliva connecting the top teeth with the bottom.
I take a step back regretting my decision of leaving the hotel so early in the morning. I try not to look frightened, but when you're a helpless human who happens to have a legendary bandit spirit inside of you and everyone wants a piece of your bones, its hard not to.
"So where are your human bodyguards?" He swings around a dark sledgehammer as thick as his summo-like fist. "Why you wondering here alone?" I don't answer as I take another step back. "I see we're playing the silent game. That's fine. I'll silence you for good!" He charges towards and I don't know why I didn't run away. Oh yeah, maybe its because I can't outrun him?
I shut my eyes waiting to feel the iron hammer crushing my skull to pieces. Instead I hear a slice, then a yell, and a body slamming against the ground. I open my eyes cautiously seeing the summo demon lying dead on the ground, his head a few inches from his neck. I nearly threw up. Behind his body stands a girl with dark hair to her breasts, shiny blue eyes, and a cloak covering her clothing.
"It's not a good idea for a human to be walking around by himself. You should know that that's rule number one for your beings." She says, half smiling. "You're lucky I decided to take a walk today or your boyfriend would've sliced this guy into tiny vertical pieces."
I plan on thanking her, but I change my thoughts after she said boyfriend. "Wait, how do you-"
"It's only right if the captain knows everything about the team they're facing off in the finals."
"Whoa, whoa, wait. Finals? We're not even in the semi-finals yet."
"Yes, but no other team comes close to your team's strength. So mine will see you in the finals." Her smile widens as she talks.
"Wait, what team are you on?" I nearly hesitate to ask that question. I expect her to dramatically lift her cape and walk away like how vampires do it movies, but she just keeps on smiling at me.
"Korisuishou. You'll see us in action today if you're going to come watch your competition. Don't worry we'll save the best and last for you guys."
I stare in her eyes the entire time she talks. They remind me of Hiei's except hers is blue. "So is your team human or demon?"
"About half and half. Why? Are you going to research on us too? You know Yoko, The Dragon Flame and the Human Psychic knows lots about demons. Maybe you can find some interesting things about us. Let me know when we meet again, okay?" She winks at me and escapes into the forest.
I take a moment to process what she says and look down at my feet. The demon's body still lies there. I shrug and head towards the hotel, not knowing what else to do with the body.
I open the door to our room and the entire team is up and in a panicky mood.
"There you are!" Yusuke calls in relief. "Hiei! Kurama's back!"
Hiei quickly rushes to me from a room. I expect a hug from him, but instead he lightly slaps me. "Where the hell have you been? Do you know we've been searching for you since sunrise?"
I look out the window and didn't even realize the sun is barely off the horizon. "Oh. Sorry. I guess I should've left a note or something."
"And that won't even cut it! What if you got killed out there? What do you expect me to do next? I thought you'd be smarter than that! I though-" To silence Hiei, I touch his lips with mine apologetically. "Kurama..." He sighs after I pull back.
"Look I'm really sorry. But I just needed some time to think. I won't do it again. I promise."
Hiei sighs again. "Okay. Okay. I'm sorry too. It's just… I was so worried about you. I thought… I thought I had lost you."
I smile at him sympathetically. "Well today's your lucky day. I thought I was dead too." I walk over to the window and stare out in the ocean. I see a figure exiting the forest and I make out a girl with a cloak and dark hair. She looks up. We meet eyes and she winks at me again. I just shake my head with a smile. After all that talking, I forgot to ask for her name.
