Chapter 25
"Okay Albus, Millicent. I have worked out an entire day plan to get Voldemort up to date with everything going on! And I'm sure it'll be the best day yet, since the day we received our Hogwarts letter! Except you Millicent…" Quirrell announced to Millicent and Dumbledore in the kitchen, while Voldemort was getting ready. "First we are going to the mall to go rollerblading for my late birthday. Then we're going to take Voldemort to Watermarch Avenue and eat lunch there. We can walk around a bit; maybe buy new stuff. Voldemort, I know, needs a new wand.
"After that we'll rent a movie or two and come home and spend the rest of the evening here, as a happy family movie night! Not necessarily family movies, but movies nonetheless." he finished and everybody smiled excitedly. "Oh I can't wait till we get to Watermarch! I can show him the Swrosa building and we could also buy him a broom!" Millicent told Quirrell excitedly. Dumbledore chuckled "Yeah! And Quirrell and I can take him to that nice robes store in Door Street!" Dumbledore suggested. "Ooooh boy! I wonder what they're serving as a special at the restaurant in Sleep Street today!"
Voldemort joined them after a while in one of Quirrell's shirts and his usual black skinnies, "Hey Quirrell, I borrowed one of your shirts. It appears to be a bit tight, but it's very comfortable, do you mind?" he asked Quirrell, who was eying him with a cocked eyebrow. "Any day! Seriously, Voldemort, you look great. In fact take the shirt, looks better on you anyway!" he said. Voldemort smiled, "Cool! Well, everybody ready to go?"
Quirrell happily looked at his friends and reached out to take Voldemort's hand. "I can't wait to finally go rollerblading with you as a late birthday gift. I'm so glad you are all here!" They all smiled back at him. "Anything for you Quirrell, it's not every day that a guy turned 25 and all his friends forgot…" Millicent joked and punched him on the shoulder.
They didn't talk much longer and sat off to start their busy day. They all got into Dumbledore's flying car and drove to the mall. There they got tickets for the rollerblading rink. Voldemort was so excited to get in he started jumping and leaping around at the entrance. After they had rented a few pairs of rollerblades for each, Voldemort already was skating up and down the track leaping and dancing around. "Come on Quirrell! There are not many people yet, so we better get started."
Quirrell quickly got into his blades and slowly got onto the track and skated towards Voldemort. He nearly fell onto Voldemort, but he caught Quirrell in his strong arms. "Easy Quirrell let me help you." Voldemort said to Quirrell with a soft smile. The pair skated down the track hand in hand. The rest of the gang just stood and looked at the couple before joining them to form a large rollerblading circle of games.
Though they didn't skate very long they were all worn out after about an hour and a half.
The four skated to the edge of the rink. Dumbledore practically fell over the railing of the rink, panting like a dog. "That – was – fun!" ha panted. Millicent slapped him on the back as she passed through the small gate and took of her skates. "My, my Albus. I thought you were younger… apparently not!" she teased.
Dumbledore didn't reply, he just kept panting like a dog and put up one finger to catch his breath, but eventually dropped it again and turned away shamefully. Millicent just sniggered childishly.
Quirrell took a seat on one of the side benches to take off his skates. Voldemort walked to stand over him and Quirrell looked up and smiled peacefully. "Finally." He said with a sigh as he tugged off one skate. Voldemort knelt beside him and helped him take off the other, receiving a few disgusted looks from a few skaters passing by. Voldemort simply glared at them and stuck his tongue out.
He turned back to Quirrell. "So what's next on out day of late-birthday happenings?"
Quirrell looked over at Millicent; they both were smiling, knowing something else he had not learned about yet. "Well Voldy," she teased, "a few things happened while you were gone. I mean, there is so much that happened." She hinted to Quirrell who started sniggering. "I mean, Quirrell learned how to drive, a flying car too. We all bought decent iPhones. Dumbledore gave us a few cooking classes…" she teased, and Dumbledore's eyes widened with mischief as he joined in. "Oh yes! And we started a BAND!" he lied. "THE JIMMY QUIRRELLIES!" Millicent and Dumbledore chimed together, as Quirrell exploded into fits of laughter.
"Who's Jimmy?" Voldemort asked curiously.
Millicent gasped dramatically, "Quirrell didn't tell you?" she teased even further, and Dumbledore chuckled, "Yeah, Quirrell, why hide that from him?" he joined in. Quirrell lifted his hands in defence, "What the hell are you idiots talking about?" he asked, still holding back laughter.
Millicent shot Voldemort a serious look, and with a pout added, "Voldemort… Quirrell started online dating!"
"Yes, and Jimmy was some one night stand." Dumbledore added. Quirrell gaped at the two and their lies, about to protest, but then Millicent cut him off with another comment. "We were all sooo drunk, and then we formed the band, deciding that we would be a band of…" she smiled at Albus, "LOVE! And FRIENDSHIP! And clichés!" they chimed together again, making googly faces.
"Quirrell learned to play the piano," Millicent joked, "I'm on guitar, Albus on drums and Jimmy is on…" She snapped her fingers repeatedly at Dumbledore until they chorused, "… the triangle!" and burst into more fits of laughter. Quirrell smiled and rolled his eyes at them, "You guys are – pathetic."
"Yeah," Voldemort snorted, "I think the band should be called THE DUMBYMILLMORONS…" he retorted, leaving the duo speechless.
"Ouch…" Millicent uttered after a short moment of burn silence. Voldemort simply looked at her with a head turned sideways and added, "Hey! You don't mess with the heir of Slytherin and get away with it!"
Quirrell turned to Voldemort, "Oh dear lord, not this again!" he whined, and added "Please know that I did not start online dating, or cooking classes with Dumbledore, and we did not start a bloody band! Where the hell did that come from?" he said, looking with narrowed eyes at the duo, who simply shrugged their shoulders. "But I did however learn to drive the flying car, and we all got nice muggle phones. And…" he smiled excitedly, "Millicent showed me this really cool place. It's called Watermarch Avenue. It is like the Diagon Alley of South Africa. The Wizards here to business there and their own small republic is also there."
"…Small Wizarding Republic of South Africa, or just SWROSA." Millicent added, "I work for the 'so called Ministry' Republic, I do research on Muggles. That's why I still live in the muggle world, all though most wizards from South Africa do. Watermarch is, as Quirrell said, mostly just for business." Voldemort grinned, "Can we go there?"
Quirrell smiled and nodded.
They all headed back home and entered Quirrell's prehistoric garden to go to the pond. Voldemort looked around from the large ghastly trees to the tiny little pink flowers sprouting between the grasses in awe, with his jaw bolted to the floor. "Voldemort close your mouth, I already have three fly traps in here, and I don't need another one!" Quirrell told Voldemort, closing his mouth for him with one hand.
"Wow Quirrell! This place looks… beyond enchanting!" Voldemort said in awe, "it's unlike anything I have ever seen!" Quirrell looked smug as he picked a flower from the garden and fiddled with it in his hands. "Thanks."
The four stood a while later around the pond, "Er… what now?" Voldemort asked. Quirrell looked at Millicent, she bent over the water and with her wand pointing at the water cast the incantation for entering. Like before, the water turned different shades of different colours. Voldemort calmly looked at the water, and before Quirrell could say "Jump." Like Millicent did for him, Voldemort already had magnificently dived into the pool of enchanted water.
Dumbledore immediately laughed at the disappointment on Quirrell's face. Millicent came to stand right next to him, "Well clearly he is a bit less clueless than you!" Quirrell looked offended, "That's not what I'm worried about! What if something went wrong!" he said with clear worry in his voice. "I'm sure he's fine Quirrell." Dumbledore said. "No, that's not it either. He's wearing one of my shirts."
The duo stood and looked at Quirrell as if he was stupid. Then he smirked, "HA! Just kidding, he's fine!" he shouted before leaping after Voldemort into the pond. Millicent looked at Dumbledore, "That Slytherin is having a bad influence on our Quirrell." He simply shook his head, and the followed Quirrell.
Quirrell wandered down the invisible stairs of air as his eyes scanned the ground for any signs of Voldemort. He couldn't spot the pale figure anywhere. A billion doubts and worries jumped into Quirrell's head.
What if something did go wrong!?
What if he's been captured?
By former Death Eaters… or worse, the Wizard Cops!
No, no, no… what if this is a trap.
His heart was racing when he came close to landing, but just before his feet brushed the pebble road – strong arms suddenly grasped around his chest and pulled him up into the air again. "AAAAGGGHHH!" Quirrell screeched, in instant panic, kicking his legs and clutching tightly onto the arms around his chest. He was about to scream again, when he looked up to see that it was Voldemort carrying him off. "Voldemort! You – prick!" he yelled and mockingly hit his fists against Voldemort's grasp. Voldemort simply smirked down at him. Quirrell managed to turn and wrapped his arms around Voldemort's neck, who had his gaze fixed on where he was flying.
"Voldemort! Seriously now! Put me down!" he said, a bit softer, now also twisting his legs around Voldemort and keeping his eyes shut. Voldemort lowered his head to Quirrell's ear and whispered, "Sshhh, just calm down Quirrell. I will never let you fall." Quirrell calmed down a bit, but still didn't open his eyes. "Quirrell… open your eyes."
With hesitation Quirrell opened his eyes, and his breathing hitched for a moment as he looked down. Voldemort was flying very very far away from Watermarch Ave, so far up that there were even small little clouds below them. Quirrell looked up and saw the watery roof, right above him. He gaped at the sight. It was like swimming face up in a pool, only… they were flying. Quirrell almost had a fanboy attack as he saw the trail of black smoke they left behind; he had always fantasised about flying with Voldemort. He looked up at the roof again and loosened one arm around Voldemort's neck to reach out and touch the water as the flied under it. It was like dropping your hand into water while riding in a boat, only it was completely upside down.
"This is so surreal…" he murmured against Voldemort's ear, who still looked in front of him. "Do you like it?" he asked with a smirk. Quirrell laughed shortly, "I love it… I mean… I've seen it before, but not from up close." He said, and then a thought came to mind, "How did you –
"Know about this?" Voldemort completed his question. Quirrell nodded, "The moment I saw the water I knew it was a water portal to a hidden place like this for instance. I read about it once. I read about the watery roof on the inside, and when I saw the portal curiosity and excitement overcame me. I just had to see for myself." He then diverted his focussed gaze to Quirrell, "But I rather waited a moment longer for you to come in. now I can see it with you." He said with a loving smile.
Quirrell buried his face into Voldemort's neck, "I always wanted to fly with you… and now I am… Voldemort," he looked up again and smiled to match Voldemort's, "this is very romantic…" Voldemort laughed and tightened his grasp around Quirrell a bit.
They fled in silence for a few minutes, until Quirrell looked down at the ground. They had only been flying in circles, and even though they could see Watermarch, Quirrell doubted the people could see them. "Voldemort?" Voldemort edged his head to listen, "We should probably go down to Mill and Albus. No doubt they don't know where we are and could be worrying." Quirrell said. Voldemort grunted loudly in annoyance and looked at Quirrell with puppy eyes. "But Quirrell!" he groaned.
"We can do this again when the sun sets, how about that?" Quirrell suggested, and Voldemort nodded reluctantly. He took his time while flying back down to the landing platform. Slowly lowering them down in a standing position, Voldemort rested his forehead against Quirrell's and closing his eyes. Quirrell snaked his arms tighter around Voldemort's neck as Voldemort twined his around Quirrell's waist.
When they finally stood on their feet back on the ground, Quirrell tilted his head slightly to kiss Voldemort. The kiss was over quickly, it was simply just there to perfect the moment. Quirrell smiled against Voldemort's lips and opened his eyes to look into his boyfriend's. "Let's go find the Dynamic Duo…" he said, and Voldemort laughed at the nickname, "It works…"
The pair walked down Watermarch Ave while Quirrell explained the layout of the small village-town-place. When they came down Sleep Street Millicent and Dumbledore waved at them from where they were sitting at the nearest restaurant, Dumbledore already stuffing his mouth with a croissant. Quirrell and Voldemort approached them and took the two open seats before them. "Here's a menu." Millicent said calmly and handed them a menu as she continued sipping from her cup of tea. "Weren't you worried about us?" Quirrell asked. Dumbledore shook his head, "Nope! Enjoyed your flight?"
Quirrell gaped at both of them. Millicent just looked at Quirrell with a careless expression, "Don't blame me, you're always the one that worries!" Quirrell simply shook his head, "Typical Millicent."
"Quirrell and I got a nickname for you two." Voldemort told the two, pointing at the both of them. Millicent quickly looked at Quirrell with a curious smile, before looking back at Voldemort, "Yeah?" she said expectantly. "Dynamic Duo" Voldemort said with a nod. Millicent and Dumbledore looked at each other thoughtfully and started nodding slowly. "It works…" Dumbledore agreed.
Millicent then looked serious, "Yes, but the question remains… who is Robin and who is Batman?" she asked, as tension suddenly built between the duo. Dumbledore inhaled stiffly, "Obviously I would be Batman…" Millicent glared at him and tried her best imitation of a Batman voice as she said, "I'm Batman…" Dumbledore then pulled out his wand and pressed the point against his throat, his voice turning dark and rusty, "I'm Batman!" he said, sounding very convincing.
"Oh please!" Millicent threw her hands in the air, "You are obviously Robin! You wear tights!" she snorted. Dumbledore pressed a hand to his chest, "I don't wear tights!" he retorted. "Yet…" Millicent added. Dumbledore bent down over the table, "May I remind you… I am Albus Percival Wolfric Brian Dumbledore, the most powerful wizard in the world!" he whispered.
A coughing sound came from Voldemort, and they all turned to look at him sitting high in his chair with his chin in the air. With an expressionless expression and raised brows he practically growled, "Well, I am Tom Marvolo Riddle, rearrange those suckers and you'll get…" his mouth curled into a sneer, "I am Lord Voldemort." The tension dropped immediately, and the air became icy. All the expression was wiped from their faces, except for Quirrell who shuddered. "Oh wow!" he uttered, clearly impressed, if not also completely tuned on. Voldemort smirked and lowered back into his seat again, looking smug.
"Yip! I still got it!"
The rest of the day had passed by in a blur. They raided a few shops; bought Voldemort a new wand (finally), much different from his first, a decent broom, and with a lot of fuss from Quirrell, a whole new wardrobe. They left Watermarch right after sundown and after Quirrell and Voldemort took another flight. This flight was a bit longer than the first. Voldemort and Quirrell actually quite literally sat on a cloud, where they quietly sat and snogged without being interrupted.
When they arrived back home, Dumbledore quickly prepared dinner while Quirrell and Voldemort took a stroll to go rent a movie for the night, and Millicent did… whatever she does… I don't know…
That night, after dinner, they were all snuggled around the television with two movies. Quite ironically, Batman Forever (the one with George Clooney and rubber nipples) and even more ironically, She's All That. The four laughed all the way through Batman, and when the movie was over it was around 9 o'clock. Dumbledore suddenly acted very tired, and persuaded Millicent that she was also suddenly tired. She acted like a child on a school night, but reluctantly followed him out of the television room.
Then Quirrell and Voldemort sat cuddles up, side by side, not back to back, and both watched She's all That together, finally.
But Quirrell didn't see the ending again anyway, because he was by that time too busy making out with the guy sitting next to him, and not behind him.
"This is the best late 25th birthday ever, so different from the rest."
"Well Quirrell… things tend to be different with us…"
"Different as can be…"
Okay… just take a moment… I hope you enjoyed that!
I'm sorry for the less regular updates. My computer still isn't functioning well, but I'll manage… somehow.
