Two kids sat on the ground with mechanical parts all around them and blue prints in the middle of them.

"Are you sure it'll work?"

The older boy shrugged looking over the sloppily written notes, "I don't see why not." The smaller girl smiled.

"What are you two doing?!" The angry voice boomed from the entrance of the work garage and the boy jumped away quickest while the younger girl retained a shout of surprise.

Being the eldest in the situation, Tony started speaking quickly, "Dad, we were just messing around a bit-"

Their father was angry however, and as the dark haired girl held her brother's hand fearfully, nothing could stop Howard Stark now, "'Messing around a bit?' You've completely messed the system of-"

The voice stirred from the staircase, "Sir?" Nothing, that is, except work.

The full grown man changed from threatening to a tired CEO in an instant as he turned to the butler who stood on the staircase respectfully distanced, "Yes?"

"You have a phone call on the home line, secretaries forwarded it." With that Howard Stark was bounding back up the stairs, past the greying service man.

Tony and Jenny exchanged a look before beginning to pile all the technology back into the bin they found it. "Anthony?"

Tony turned to the greying man that now stood at the bottom of the staircase, "Yes sir?"

A small smirk grew on the older man's face, "I think you'd best be getting Jenny to bed."

Sighing the boy looked to his little sister, "Come along then Jay." Till holding his hand the girl followed him up the stairs, quietly past their butler and up to bed.

After Jenny was in bed, he moved to his room, still hearing the voice of his father talking to someone on the phone. Trying his best to be quiet he thought his efforts for naught when his foot hit a heavy solid force with a small clank.

Looking down he saw a cardboard box. Slowly he opened it and could see the shine of metal before picking it up and taking it into his room. Once safe in his room he opened it and there were the blueprints and the materials needed that they had sorted out.

But how had they gotten up here? Oh, yea, obviously.

Tony smiled, he'd thank the man when he delivered laundry tomorrow.

Now Jenny had lied to Tony and said that she slept while Bruce was with her, and had told to Bruce that she had slept when Tony was with her. In actuality all she wanted was sleep and she couldn't do that.

Finally when it was the proper time, which was like three o'clock in the evening, (Despite the fact that Jenny furiously argued that getting out in the morning was going past the twenty four hour requirement) the hospital released her. Jenny walked calmly out of the building before sprinting through the door and into the fresh air of New York City, "Never again." She muttered. Her bad mood was evident, and by 'evident' I mean a billboard couldn't have made it clearer.

The car ride home was with music blaring as always but the fact that she was home seemed to make Jenny smile a bit brighter and seem happy with herself as she hugged Bruce with both her feet off the ground as he laughed at her sudden happiness. It was completely opposite her previous vibes.

She kissed his lips quickly before running to the elevator, "I'm home Jarvis!"

"Good to see you up and moving again Miss Stark."

Bruce turned to Tony who was at the work desk and asked loudly, "Any chance she's bipolar?"

"Hey!" Jenny responded offended while Tony smirked.

"Possibly."

This wasn't the first time Bruce asked Tony that question.

"Your sister may be crazy." Banner muttered as he met up with Tony for dinner about two weeks ago.

Confused Tony raised an eyebrow. He didn't generally get involved in his sister's affairs but then again her and Bruce generally got along from what he saw, "Is she… not coming for dinner then?" Bruce was mumbling and shaking his head clearly looking aggravated. Tony scanned the room for an exit but decided that he was probably Bruce's best friend at the moment and would be obligated to help him. Even if it was about his own sister; "Okay, fine, what's wrong?"

That seemed to be enough of a push, "Does she always make NO sense?"

Now Tony knew Jenny had her up and down moments, he also knew her to have more of them recently, "In what way?"

Bruce leaned against the counter to face Tony as he ran his fingers in his hair in frustration, "One moment she wants me to talk to Betty, the next she's sending glares this way and that- and yes, I know the difference between a dagger and a curious look."

Okay, Stark should've seen this one coming from Betty's first day, in fact he did, "Bruce, Ja-Jenny's mind is, despite the graphic image, a fuse. It is rewiring itself a million different ways per day and to something or someone like Flamel- a base instinct of the mind is to perceive threats. Betty is a threat. On the other hand Jenny is understanding and wants you to be friends with her."

Bruce seemed to hear what Tony was saying because he sat there for a moment in closed-eyes concentration before sighing, "So while I am asking if she's bipolar I am forgetting she is literally battling in her own head."

"Yep, and you of all people should probably get that Banner." With a deep breath he saw that Tony was right, and Tony saw how that could be seen as harsh to say, "But by all means tell her how you feel, she's as much to blame!"

Jenny gave Bruce a mocking glare that shut him up immediately while Tony joined them in the elevator with a "whip" sound effect, "Oh shut up! A week ago you went with Pepper clothes shopping. That's, like, the ultimate couple situation."

Tony coughed and opened his mouth to reply but the elevator stopped at the labs and Tony and Bruce stepped out too quickly as Tony caught the sight of his sister's hand twitching, "Hey Jay, pick up a cube if you can."

She looked at him startled by the drop in tone but then became aware of the movement in her right hand and stopped immediately, "Sorry about that." She muttered while Bruce looked on mildly concerned before the doors shut.

Shaking her head she recomposed herself, she was home. Everything was okay.

She had a few things to worry about but nothing actually important, Industry stuff was second nature at this point and Shield was allowing her time it seemed to recover somewhat. She did receive projects to keep her busy, and out of their hair. She understands, they think she's lost it; and maybe she has.

Sitting back on her bed she concentrated as she played with the eight sided rubex cube Pepper got her a while ago, "Jarvis, television on please."

The T.V. flicked on to the news with yet another status update on Gotham and Jenny suddenly had an idea, she wanted to get away but not too far (she did have work here after all).

Her favorite was England, she went to boarding school there and had acquired a fine taste for the life around her school. Tony surprised her one day and took her out in a taxi and all for a day in London.

It was humorous the looks that had gotten as she had been called to the office and walked in her pleated skirt and navy blazer only to see the familiar figure of her brother signing something in the office. The bell rang and student flooded the corridors but she darted through them and shouted, "Tone!"

He turned quickly and caught his little sister running at him. She was nine and as a seventeen year old he easily lifted her for a hug, "Jay!" The looks from the resident teenagers showed they all knew who the girl was, and her brother. The taller man put her down, "What do you say we get out of here?"

Excitedly Jenny nodded and without a word ran out of the main office to her locker. By the time they were out they were driving a rented car all across the streets of London while Tony cursed at traffic and she beamed with the music all the way up, "Where to?"

Tony stopped his irritation at the cars for a second just to turn to her smiling face and smile back, "Anywhere."

Jenny sat awake in her lab all night, working on some last minute project Fury had sent her. It was just a large amount of the effects of Gamma and how to contain it. There was only one little problem.

"So Fury?"

"Jennifer it is two in the morning. Why are you awake?" He sounded just as alert as she did at this time in the morning.

"Doing one of your little projects that I do believe you send me every day to efforts to keep me content without field work, which reminds what are the damn plans to create an anti-gravity fish tank?"

Fury saw right through her, "Can't sleep?"

"I rarely can. Though that does evoke thought processing such as why am I locked out of level seven?"

"Why haven't you found out for yourself yet?"

Jenny didn't stop working as she talked, "I thought I'd show you the respect that you have rarely shown me and ask you first."

… "It's something that the Avengers aren't cleared to have knowledge of."

"I'm not an avenger. I'm an agent."

Fury gave a humorless laugh on the other line, "Never thought I'd hear you say that."

"Yea well, things change I suppose."

"And people." Fury paused for a second as Jenny paused in her working, they recommenced at the same time, "Jennifer, do you remember the battle for New York?"

"That's rhetorical?"

"Do you remember what was lost?"

Jenny laughed, "Besides my car?"

"Exactly."

Jenny stopped working and looked up even though she had nothing to look at in particular. Raising in eyebrow, "Is this about Abba?" Since when did this become about her car?

Fury paused on the other line, it was a deadly pause, the kind that makes big decisions, "Well we all saw that car crash but it had a daughter whose new and improved, named her Lola."

"… You made a new car out of the remaining parts of my engine? And named it Lola?"

"That I did agent Flamel, but I did not name it. I left that up to its new owner, a fan of collectibles."

There was a long pause now and Jenny's mind kept running at high speeds and she came to a preposterous conclusion. There were two things lost in that battle- her car, and a "fan of collectibles." She saw the blood stain, Tony wasn't lying to her, there's no way… "Fury, don't play games with me, not on this." Her voice was lower, more dangerous; she couldn't joke about this.

"I didn't send you any research to do on a fish tank Jennifer." The line went dead and Jenny was running up the stairs instead of the elevator in seconds, fast as she could at the moment which was still Olympic speed as she reached her level and busted into her wing. She had to find them because he wouldn't pick up a phone call.

In her room, a nightstand held all her Shield issued possessions, including her com pieces through the years.

A piece of tape was around one, labeled 'Project Pegasus'. She rashly held down on it and waited for it to buzz alive before saying, "Phil?" Her voice was harsh and came out broken.

No response came and she began to feel stupid for even thinking that one would come. Yet she still hoped, "Phil? Coulson? It's… well it's agent Flamel. This line might be dead but I need to talk to you. I need to say-" Why did she want to talk to him so bad? "I guess, if you're listening-"

She took a shaky breath before shaking her head, "Nevermind, I guess I just… haven't been sleeping." She lowered the com and took a deep breath calming herself down.

"But Coulson!" The girl whined as she walked side by side with the ever professional agent.

"Jenny you don't have to agree with him on everything but there is common ground." His frontal focus was entirely narrowed on a file report he was reading.

"Which is?"

Coulson closed the report and handed it to Jenny, "He does care about you."

"Fury? You're joking." Fury lived to disagree with her.

"I think that's your area of expertise."

Jenny groaned, "Whatever Coulson, call me when you need me, be careful please- I'd like to not have you haunting me."

He always would talk sense into her, or vice versa. She knew he would be able to remain stoic and neutral if she was talking to him now; she just wanted things how they were before everything. She missed feeling like she was 'the' Jennifer Stark.

She put the com in her ear out of habit and walked slowly to the elevator, "Miss Stark?" Jarvis's words seemed to run past her until she recognized her own name, "Yes Jarvis?"

"Your vitals shot up and then declined, are you alright?"

She smiled at her ever present guardian, "I am fine Jarvis, thank you though." She was fine. She kept herself controlled. But now her mind was made up… she needed a vacation.

That morning, newspaper reporters all scoured to see the white limo pulling up to Wayne Manor.

Rumor has it that it came from out of town, and that Stark's jet plane had been visible in the town over.

Bruce Wayne and his younger partner-in-crime, so to speak, stood outside the large stone manor house at the bottom of the stone steps respectfully while cameras' clicking could be heard. Their butler, an older and greying man, stepped forward when the limo stopped and opened the door.

A black wedge extended and then the rest of her- an in shape woman, smartly dressed with her bay-colored hair up in a loose bun. Her face was partially obscured by a pair of black and diamond encrusted sunglasses and yet, she still needed no introduction. The butler, Alfred, retrieved her bags- three of them, one rolled, one duffle bag and her regular shoulder bag. She thanks him with a gracious smile and tried to take her bags back but he only gave her one of them and took the other two.

Jennifer Stark had come to Gotham.

She outstretched her hand, "Mr. Wayne."

The handsome older man in front of her took her hand but raised it to his lips instead, "Miss Stark, pleasure to finally make your acquaintance."

With a laugh that chimed almost flirty Jenny shook her head, "The pleasure is mine, and Richard Grayson I presume?" She turned to the boy, boy is a loosely used term, he looked to be her age or perhaps youngers by a year or two.

Dick smiled at the young woman and shook her hand firmly instead of copying his mentor's greeting, "Yes I am Miss Stark, it's a pleasure."

"Likewise." Jenny spoke with a sweet smile.

Bruce eyed the reporters with an eye roll, "Shall we retreat?"

Stark's eyes followed his train of thought as she nodded, "Gladly thanks." She easily lifted her suitcase and the three fell back into the manor. It was a glazed and classic looking parlor with a silver and white chandelier hanging, "You have a beautiful home, both of you." Jennifer said diplomatically as she examined the classical interior.

"Thank you Miss Stark, congratulations on your promotion however that is excellent!" Bruce caught the eyes of Alfred who was coming down the stairs and spoke remorsefully, "I do apologize for leaving abruptly but I have rounds to be making, you are more than invited to join me if you aren't tired from your travel? One condition is that no spying for company secrets or anything." He pointed to her ear and she got confused.

Reaching up Jenny laughed, and pulled the ear com that she had forgotten was in her ear. It didn't matter, Stark and Wayne didn't even compete in her mind, "I would love to join you actually, and it's just Jenny, but perhaps I should get settled first, can I meet you somewhere?"

Bruce waved his hand as he moved subtly towards the door, "Of 'course, use one of the cars in the garage and Dick will show you around, won't he?" The millionaire looked to his younger ward who had to tear his eyes from Jenny to look to Bruce.

"Yes, yes he will."

Jenny noticed from the corner of her eye and laughed under her breath, "Perfect then I shall call you when I'm ready to meet you at the enterprises." Jenny waved as Bruce closed the door behind him and then she took a deep breath and turned to Dick, "So, Richard, I believe I'm owed a tour?"

"Gladly," He said with a friendly flourish as he took her bag and she scoffed.

Taking it back from him Jenny followed him up the stairs, "Thank you but I'm stronger than I look." Dick watched her ascend the stairs with the bag that she held as though it weighed nothing.

"Will I get to see a demonstration or perhaps experience one?" Jenny had to cough to cover the laugh at his obvious attempt at flirting but smiled as she knew how to.

"You couldn't handle me if you tried." Her eyes followed the pictures of various Wayne family members and pieces of art that scattered the walls while maintaining a bored tone that Dick took as coy.

The stairs spiraled up and they made a right at the top until they reached the a door on the left that had the number four engraved on it, "Well this is your room," He opened it and let her enter first. Her bags were already on the king sized bed with light blue comforters and she threw the one she was carrying with it, "It's quaint but it's cozy and if you're lucky you get room service by Alfred."

"Quaint, coziness and food, what more can a girl ask for?" Jenny said as she opened and closed a drawer of the dresser and then opened the door of the wardrobe and then closed it before looking to Dick, "Just, making sure there wasn't a world in the closet."

He was watching her with his arms crossed in a manner that reminded her of Clint as he spoke with the same almost condescending tone, "Nope, no lampposts or lions in our wardrobes."

She tsked her tongue and opened the door to her private bathroom, "Disappointing."

"I know but we do have a secret lair."

"Who doesn't?" Jenny laughed at the ridiculous idea of a secret lair but mentally applauded the kid for the idea.

Richard laughed as well and Jenny checked for her keys and phone. It was currently eleven thirty. Jon had instructions to tell Tony and the crew where she went, but at noon. She had two text messages from him, one from Pepper, and a missed call from Bruce.

How did they figure out…?

Press.

"So I've got to ask, did you really die?" Dick asked.

Jenny was reading the messages as she simply looked up at the boy. It wasn't a question she was looking to answer, "So is your name really Dick?"

He laughed and Jenny shook her head, "If you want it to be and I suppose you could tell me on our way to meet Bruce."

Putting her phone in her pocket she snapped back to reality, "Yea, yea, let just change my shoes." Jenny unzipped her bags and threw her black heeled boots on the bed. She rarely wore blue because it clashed with her eyes but she didn't mind the color and she was wearing sunglasses currently.

Switching her shoes, Dick waited patiently before he starting tapping his foot just to annoy her, "Come on punk chick, let's get moving."

"I've had these for years, not punk, functional." She zipped them up and smiled at the familiar and more comfortable feel of her boots, "Alright, let's go."

Through the mansion Jenny had to admit the older feel was an interesting touch on the decorating. Tony and her always went for a modern or futuristic feel but this mansion gave a wonderfully winter gothic castle princess feel.

Dick lead her through the parlor, the library, the kitchen and the dining room before taking her to the garage, "Which would you like to take babe?"

Jenny was fairly unimpressed with the collection though she could see where Bruce's pride may come from, there was a motorcycle that caught her eye, and she wasn't too fond of the fact that a person just called her babe… "That one." She pointed to a harley Davidson that was one of the only six in existence and he laughed walking toward a wall of keys.

"Alright, so do you want front or back he threw the keys to her and she smirked despite the bad pick up line he had attempted.

Easily sliding onto the bike she inserted the key and shook her head, "I ride solo, thanks for the keys though." She lowered her glasses just to flash him a wink before pressing the third diamond. Her glasses extended at the top and covered her head in a silver and black helmet- she was off on her own.

"Are we there yet?" Jennifer whined impatiently while checking her carry on for the third time in the limo.

"Please relax Miss Stark; the plane is ours it'll wait for us. Do you have everything you need?" An older voice spoke from the driver's seat and Jenny sighed again.

She was eight and about to go back to her academy overseas, as soon as she was driven to the plane, "Of 'course Jarvis but… is dad going to be there?"

The answer came a few seconds too late for Jennifer to believe it, "He should be."

She replied seconds later with a disappointed, "Okay."

The older man's heart broke for the young girl who lives such an older life as he pulled into the parking lot where their plane rested.

Her father was there but before she ran to him she hugged Jarvis, the butler who held her door open. He smiled at her thought as he kissed her forehead, "Good bye Miss Stark."

"Bye Jarvis, I'll miss you." She spoke softly before releasing him and then walking to her dad and hugged him shortly.

Bruce Wayne gladly showed her around the buildings of Wayne Enterprises and she behaved in a charming enough manner, ignoring her buzzing phone that sat in her pocket for four hours. Jenny did take an extended interest in the Medical centers, and Bruce had people trading her around so she knew exactly what she was looking at the entire time. The people seemed intelligent and she acted in her perfect behavior the entire time, even if they were less than helpful.

Just when the sun was going down they were going to head back to the manor, "Thank you for showing me Mr. Wayne, is there any chance I could request the use of a medical lab tomorrow?"

Bruce was driving and Jenny could easily see the similarities between him and her brother in more than one way… it's no wonder they hate each other, "Jenny, I have told you twice already, call me Bruce and I will arrange that easily but more important issues are pressed such as what would you like me to feed you for dinner?"

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"I'm sorry Tone, I know."
"No I get it, I should've have been so stupid but I couldn't tell you."
"Because I had to do this alone! Suspicion can't look like this isn't a pleasantry."
"Fine! Then come if you want but I know how much you… dislike, the household I am staying in."
"You know what Tone? Go ahead! "

"Tony! Guess what?" The young currently-blonde girl ran into his bedroom at three in the morning when he was up working.

"You made a robot?" He guessed in a tired and drowsy voice.

"Close!" Her tone was too happy for him to ignore her, especially as she held up her phone, "I made an AI!"

Tony didn't believe it; he actually laughed harshly, "AI? You made an artificial intelligence?

Jenny jumped up on his bed messing up his papers making him more frustrated than his work already, "Hmhm! Check him out!" She held up her phone and Tony sighed lightly pushing his sister away.

"Jenny, it's three in the morning, I have work to finish and you aren't helping. Why don't you go perfect your robot in your room?"

With sad eyes the girl looked at her older brother, "It's an AI and I just want you to see it-"

"Jay!" She stopped talking and walked backwards to the door slowly, "I have work to do."

Her sad eyes turned to a glare really quick, "Whatever you say, DAD." She turned to run back to her room quietly so she didn't wake up her parents, but quick enough to leave Tony very guilty. He knew that their dad would often use the same excuse to get out of talking to either of them but this was different…

Still if her creating an actual artificial intelligence was legit, that was a big thing. Sighing he stood and walked quietly toward her room, knocking twice he looked in knowing she would ignore him. She was on her bed, lying on her back and working on her phone.

"What do you want?" She emphasized in a way only a little girl could and Tony walked in but just enough to close her door. Her room was closer to their parents' and no matter how old he got he'd still be careful around them.

"You called your AI an 'it' and I'd like to know why you haven't named him yet?" Cautiously he walked in a bit more casually.

She lowered her phone and looked at him, "What do you mean?"

He smiled and sat on the end of her bed without argument, "An artificial intelligence is like Vicky in Irobot, it's generally given a gender and name."

She tilted her head and sat up to be a bit more level with her, still taller, brother, "How about, just a rather very intelligent system?"

Tony put together the letters, "An acronym, does that spell Jarvis?"

"I thought all students were required to take spelling?" Her innocent tone gave in too much and her smirk gave her away as Tony ruffled her hair until she pushed his hand away laughing.

Tony laughed with her until he nodded, "Yea, just a rather very intelligent system sounds good." They shared a look before Tony added, "Not to mention it'll give him big shoes to fill, Edwin was the very best for us."

Jenny nodded, "He was always the happiest to see us home from school."

"Never fought with us in the car."

"Never was too busy."

"Never claimed we weren't enough."

"Never late for dinner."

"Never not proud."

"Never let us down."

They both sat for a moment, neither looking at the either until Tony coughed, "Yea well, we've made it five months without him and I'll try not to be too busy in the future."

Jenny smiled catching the hint, "And I'll try not to fight with you, especially in the car."

"I don't think I've been late for dinner." Tony said hesitantly, they both went to separate schools and when he was home, he ate with Jenny if they ate. Jenny smiled and yawned before going to respond and Tony cut her off, "Go to bed Jay, it is past your bedtime I'm sure."

Shaking her head jenny laid down, "Yea, yea, Tone, if you say so." He kissed her forehead before going to her light to turn it off, "Hey Tone?"

"Yea Jay?"

"I'm sorry I interrupted your work."

"It's alright, I needed an interruption."

"You are enough and I'm proud of you."

Tony smiled at the tired girl who was nuzzling her head into the pillow as she spoke, "Thank you Jay." She didn't respond and Tony took it to mean she had fallen asleep.

He'd never let her down, if he could help it.

That night after dinner and her phone call with Tony, Jenny couldn't sleep. She rarely could anymore, so instead, she went downstairs to do some exploring. She found a library and decided that some warm tea would be perfect. As she walked into the kitchen she was surprised the light was on and someone was working over the stove.

"Alfred?" She asked faking drowsiness.

The man turned to face her with a small smile, "Good morning Miss Stark."

"It's hardly morning yet to me." She muttered but smiled none the less, "What are you doing up?"

His back was to her again and un-ironically she did think he was making tea, green tea if her nose was right, "I could ask you the same thing, would you like a cup?" She sat herself at the table right by the kitchen so she could talk.

Jenny smiled genuinely for the first time in this man's presence, "I would, thank you, and sleep eluded me."

A few seconds went by while the butler worked and Jenny sat patiently, when he did hand her a mug of tea he raised an eyebrow, "And now the truth for once?"

It's a good thing Jenny hadn't taken a sip yet or she would've sputtered, "It's too early to be asked that question Mr. Alfred." At the look she received form the butler she smiled, "Alright sit down, but it is true that I can't fall asleep."

"I know the look of someone who's dying." He said soberly and she froze.

"Oh yeah? What does that look like?" Jenny acted uninterested as she drank her tea sip by sip.

Alfred's silver hair stood out in the light as his eye twinkled a bit, "The fakeness of your smile, the act, and the laugh you have trained to be released at will, the planning of your language to the last pin drop. "

"I've done that for ages, I'm in front of the reporters enough that I can reform that, Tony does it too."

"That's not the same; you can act that way around people, not just the media."

His tone wasn't offensive or disgusted as she would've expected and so she tried not to sound defensive, "Sometimes I have to."

"That's my point. Also you are asking for medical access." The British accent made the matter of fact tone more evident and it brought Jenny to smiling.

She shrugged, "Yea well, I may just be picking up pointers." She paused for a second, "But you are right sir. I am dying, but I do not intend to."

He shrugged coyly, "I never said you did, after all, even the people of Gotham know of Jennifer Stark."

Jenny looked at the much older man, "Thanks Alfred." Her tea was almost gone and she stood slowly to put her cup in the sink, "I've got it," She stopped him from standing and walked through the kitchen, "You know we used to have a butler like you when I was younger."

"You still are young Miss Stark, and we and Mr. Wayne seemed to have similar lifestyles growing up."

Nodding she rinsed her glass and left it in the sink, "We probably did although I imagine him more like Tony."

"That would explain their conflicts." Alfred spoke her thoughts aloud and Jenny smiled. He was a lot like the old Jarvis, "Good night Miss Stark."

"Good night Alfred and thank you for the tea." She turned and left the kitchen figuring she could go upstairs and work out somehow or stretch. When she got in her guest room she closed her door and turned on her light. She wasn't going to sleep tonight.
