Hey everyone! Thanks so much for all your reviews on the last chapter. Like I said before - don't think that because Finchel had a miscarriage once means they aren't going to have kids. Finchel kids are going to be showing up eventually! I really enjoyed writing this chapter, as them with their families is one of my favorite dynamics to write. Enjoy and review if I should keep going!
Chapter 25: Easter Eggs
Finn and Rachel were home from the hospital and feeling better physically, but mentally they weren't okay yet. They were still shaken up by everything that happened and very much grieving for their lost child. With Easter around the corner, that made things more difficult. Holidays were supposed to be a happy time, but neither Finn nor Rachel were happy at all right now.
Finn would be going back to the glee club on Monday, and he and Rachel would also both be going back to school. Their professors had been very accomodating about letting them do their work online, but they were still nervous to be going back to school. What would the other students say about the miscarriage? Did they know?
Some of the other glee alumni had been working with Choral Inspiration while Finn took some time off to recover, and Finn had to admit, he felt bad about missing practices this close to Nationals. His friends had told him that the glee club sounded good, but what would Collette think of him missing rehearsals this close to Nationals? He'd told his supervisor but asked the supervisor not to tell the kids.
Of course, the relationships with their parents weren't what they were before for both Finn and Rachel. They'd talked when their parents came shortly after the accident, but things were awkward. The parents had been sympathetic to them, but they didn't seem to have the grief that Finn and Rachel had for their child.
Since Easter was coming up, Shelby had asked Finn and Rachel to come over to color eggs with Beth. Kylie was in town as well since she and her parents were stopping through New York on the way to visit her dad's parents in Vermont. Finn knew Rachel was looking forward to seeing her mom and both her sisters, but things probably wouldn't be easy. Shelby and Kylie both knew about what happened, and Kylie's parents probably did too. Beth knew that Finn and Rachel had gotten hurt, but she didn't know the full details - after all, she was only five.
"Maybe it'll good for us," Rachel said to Finn as they walked up to Shelby's house. "It'll be a nice distraction, and we've been hanging around the apartment a lot since the accident..."
"Yeah, maybe you're right," Finn agreed. They hadn't wanted to go out and they spent most of their time thinking about the baby.
"I just don't understand how we're both only sore, but we're pretty much fine other than that," Rachel groaned. "And the baby's gone. Our first baby..."
"I know," Finn said, kissing Rachel's head.
"We shouldn't be upset," Rachel said, clearly trying to sound brave. "Shelby wanted us to be with Beth. Beth hasn't had both her sisters with her in a while. We can have time to be sad later." She gulped and rang the doorbell as she took Finn's hand. Finn could see Rachel was trying her best to be brave, but she was still sad.
Shelby came to the door. "Finn! Rachel! So glad you two could make it!"
Finn forced a smile. "How could we say no to Beth?"
"Well, you two gave her a great Easter last year when I was so sick, the least I can do is give you guys a good one this year," Shelby said. "Come on in. Kylie's already here."
Finn and Rachel followed Shelby inside. Kylie's parents were sitting in the living room and greeted Finn and Rachel before the couple went to the dining room, where Kylie and Beth were getting out some egg dying kits. Beth ran over to Finn and Rachel as soon as she saw them. "Hi!" she said, giving them each a hug.
"Hi," Finn said. "Ready for us to color eggs with us?"
"Yeah!" Beth said.
Kylie came over and gave Finn and Rachel each a hug. "How are you hanging in there?" she whispered.
"We're managing," Finn whispered as Rachel nodded.
"Kylie, now that Finn and Rachel are here, we can color the eggs!" Beth declared.
"That's right, we can," Kylie said.
Finn decided to follow Rachel's advice from earlier and try to focus on what they were doing today. "So, what colors do we have, Beth?"
"We have pink, and purple, and red, and orange, and yellow, and green, and blue!" Beth declared.
"Those are nice colors," Rachel said. She began putting the tablets in the cups of vinegar and water.
"Will you come to help me find where Easter Bunny hides them this year?" Beth asked. She turned to Kylie. "Last year he hid them at Finn and Rachel's house."
"Yes, he did," Finn said. "I think this year he'll hide them here."
"We can come help you look for them though," Rachel said.
"Yay!" Beth said, putting an egg in the pink dye.
Finn watched as Rachel put an egg in the yellow dye. "Of course you'd start with the yellow because it's closest to your gold stars!" Finn said, putting an egg in the red dye.
Rachel giggled and kissed Finn. It was good to see Rachel smiling again, and Finn had to admit, right now he was smiling, too.
"Kissing icky!" Beth giggled.
"You think it's icky now, but you're going to want to kiss a boy one day!" Rachel told Beth.
"I will?" Beth asked.
"Yeah," Kylie giggled. "You will."
Rachel looked at her sister. "Is there something you're not telling me?"
"Well..." Kylie began. "Jack and I spent a lot of time together preparing our duet for Regionals and we've been hanging out a lot even after Regionals... and the night before I left town... he kissed me right after we went out to dinner."
"Awww!" Rachel swooned. "Young love!"
"Breadstix?" Finn asked. "Rachel and I went on so many dates there."
"Yeah, it was Breadstix," Kylie said.
"I'm happy for you," Rachel said. "I know you've liked him for a while."
"Yeah, he's a great guy," Finn added.
"You have a boyfriend now?" Beth asked Kylie.
Kylie smiled. "Yeah, I do."
"Boys are icky," Beth said.
Finn pouted. "I'm a boy, Beth. Am I icky?"
"Well, maybe not you," Beth said.
"Yeah, definitely not Finn," Rachel said.
After Finn, Rachel, Kylie and Beth finished coloring their eggs, they had dinner with Shelby and Kylie's parents before Kylie and her parents left for Vermont. As Finn and Rachel were leaving the townhouse, Shelby came up to them. "Thanks so much for coming over today."
"Thank you," Finn said. "I think we really needed this today."
"Yeah," Rachel said. "I think I speak for both me and Finn that this is the first time we've had a nice day since it all happened."
"Definitely," Finn agreed. "And Beth wants us to come over on Easter to help her find the eggs."
"Of course you can come," Shelby said. "Beth really loves getting to be with her big sisters."
"We love being with her," Rachel said.
"Watching you two with her... you're going to be great parents some day," Shelby said. "Don't think that what happened was the universe trying to tell you something. Your day will come."

On Easter morning, Finn and Rachel were awoken by knocks on their bedroom door. "You got a present!" Finn heard Kurt's voice call.
Finn opened his eyes and rolled over, seeing Rachel was awake as well. "I wonder what it is?" Rachel asked.
"Let's find out," Finn said, taking Rachel's hand and leaving the bedroom, seeing Kurt and Blaine in the hall.
"So, you guys are still going to Shelby's today?" Blaine asked.
"Yup," Finn said. "When's your family going to get here?" Blaine's parents were in New York for Easter, and so was Cooper and his fiancee.
"We're meeting them for brunch soon," Kurt said. He paused. "I wonder why our parents didn't come for Easter, Finn. They love coming to New York for holidays."
Finn paused. He knew that his parents were going to be spending Easter with Burt's brother. Could it be because of everything that happened with him, Rachel and their baby?
Finn and Rachel followed Kurt and Blaine into the living room, where two big baskets were waiting. One was labeled "Blaine and Kurt," the other was labeled "Finn and Rachel."
So despite everything, Finn's parents had sent him and Rachel a huge Easter basket. Rachel ran over and looked at it. "Look, Finn! These flowers are beautiful!" She began looking through the basket. "And all this candy looks delicious."
Finn smiled as he took a bite of chocolate. "Yeah, this was really nice of them."

After spending the day at Shelby's, Finn and Rachel returned to their apartment. Kurt and Blaine were still out with Blaine's family, and Santana had gone to visit her family in Lima for the holiday, so they had the apartment to themselves. "It was nice of our parents to send us those baskets," Finn said as they arrived.
"Yeah," Rachel said. "I feel bad about everything... do you think the reason why they didn't come is because of what happened?" She didn't want to think that was why, but she knew that they weren't on the best of terms with their parents.
"Maybe," Finn said. "I love our parents, Rachel. I always will."
"We did kind of act like jerks," Rachel admitted.
Finn managed to smile. "Yeah, we did. It's just that we loved our baby in the same way that our parents love us."
"Yeah," Rachel said. "I wanted to be able to protect him or her from everything, and I only wanted what was best for him or her..." After keeping their minds off it for most of the weekend, now their thoughts were going back to their lost child. Suddenly, Rachel's thoughts were interrupted by her phone ringing. She looked at the Caller ID and saw that it was her dads. She held up the phone to answer it, making sure Finn saw who it was. "Hello?"
"Rachel, baby, it's Dad," Hiram said.
"Hi Dad," Rachel said. "Did you and Daddy have a good Easter?"
"We did, but we really missed you," Hiram said.
"I missed you too," Rachel said. "Finn and I went to Shelby's today. We colored eggs with Beth the other day and Kylie was there too. And today we joined Beth on her egg hunt."
"That sounds nice," LeRoy said. "I'm glad you and Finn have Shelby in New York. She's good to have in your life."
"Yeah, she is," Rachel said. "So, what did you do today?"
"We had brunch with some friends," LeRoy said.
Rachel decided to say what she'd been holding in. "Dad, Daddy, I'm so sorry for how Finn and I acted during my pregnancy and after the accident... it was a hard time for us and we were scared and didn't know what to do."
"You've apologized before, honey," Hiram said.
"I know I have," Rachel said. "But I feel like you guys not coming for Easter meant you thought we didn't want to see you, and we love you."
"We thought you wouldn't want to see us," LeRoy said.
"We would have liked to," Rachel said. "Again, I can't say it enough, but I'm so sorry."

After Rachel's talk with her parents, Finn knew that he, too, needed to call his parents. With Rachel at his side, he picked up his phone and dialed his mom's number. Carole picked up almost right away. "Hi Finn!"
"Hi Mom," Finn said. "Did you and Dad have a nice day?"
"We did," Carole said. "What about you and Rachel?"
"Yeah, we went to her mom's," Finn said. "Thanks so much for the basket you sent us, we love it."
"Well, we're glad you guys like it," Carole said. "Kurt and Blaine liked theirs too."
Finn decided to ask what he'd been wondering. "Mom, why didn't you guys come to New York?"
"Finn, we haven't been on the best of terms lately," Carole said.
Just like Rachel's dads had said. Just like Finn had feared. "Mom, I love you and Dad still. I'm sorry if I made you feel like I didn't, but I do and I feel bad that you felt like you couldn't come..."
"You wanted us to come?" Carole asked.
"It would have been nice," Finn said. "I feel horrible about everything that happened. There were wrongs on both sides, but I can never be too mad at you because of everything you've done for me. I'm so sorry about everything."
"I've said before, I'm sorry too," Carole said. "So is your dad."
"Rachel and I really loved our baby," Finn admitted. "We just couldn't stand the idea of parting with him or her... of course we had to..."
"I wish you didn't have to go through that," Carole said. "Just know that we feel so sorry for you and we're always here for you."
"I love you too," Finn said.
"I love you too," Finn heard Burt say. "Finn, if we'd known, we would have come..."
"I just wanted to call and tell you how I feel," Finn said. "I know it might take time, but I do want us to be close again. I don't want what we have ruined."
"Finn, our family is unbreakable," Burt said. "You and Kurt are our world."

The day after Easter was Finn's first day back at school. He'd seen the videos of the glee club performing when his friends worked with them, and he thought they looked like they were doing pretty well and were almost ready for Nationals, but he did feel bad for misisng rehearsals this close to the big event. Luckily, the school had booked plane tickets and hotels for Nationals...
Some of the glee kids began arriving, and Finn took a deep breath. He wasn't going to let his personal life get in the way today. He was going to just focus on the kids. Over the weekend he'd managed to hold it together during the holiday celebrations, he just needed to do that again today.
Finn had asked his friends not to tell the kids why he wasn't there and to say that he was sick. The kids didn't seem to think anything too weird was up, and that was a good thing. "How are you feeling?" Josh asked Finn as he came in.
"I'm doing better, thanks," Finn said.
"Your friends are fun to work with, but it's good to have you back," Caitlin said. "Why didn't Rachel come though? I was hoping she could help me with my song for my final NYADA audition."
Finn didn't want to say why Rachel was gone. "Oh, she hasn't been feeling well either. I'm sure she'd love to work with you though."
"Good," Caitlin said. "It's a good thing Ms. Goulde isn't here today..."
Finn was relieved she wasn't there. "Is she still being difficult?"
"Well, she thought this meant you were leaving and she could get the glee club back," Josh said.
"I'm not going anywhere," Finn said. "We're going to Nationals and we're going to win." He looked at the glee club. "Okay guys, sorry I got sick so close to Nationals, but I'm back, and I can't wait to see what you've been working on. Let's see those Nationals numbers."

The first day back at school had been okay, at least as okay as a day back could be after everything that had happened. Rachel was getting looks from other students, but luckily no one said anything to her. She had Kurt or Blaine with her most of the day, so she had a feeling that people weren't going to torment her.
As Rachel was leaving school, her phone started ringing. She looked at the Caller ID and saw that it was Rupert, the director of Funny Girl. Not knowing if she wanted to answer it, Rachel picked up the phone. "Hello?"
"Rachel, this is Rupert Campion," Rupert said.
"Hi," Rachel said, not knowing if she wanted to know what came next.
"It's been a few weeks, but I wanted to apologize again for what happened," Rupert said. "Due to a variety of factors, Sidney has been removed as the producer."
Rachel had to smile about that. She didn't think Sidney deserved a job after what he did. "Well, I hope things are going okay with the production."
"That's part of what I was calling about," Rupert said. "They're leaving for tour in a few weeks, and before Sidney fired you without my consent, we were hoping that you would be one of our Fanny Brices..."
Rachel didn't know what to say. This was her dream role. But was he only doing this because he'd somehow heard about what happened and felt sorry for her? "What about Taylor?" Rachel asked.
"Taylor and Jean in particular said that they shouldn't have fired you, and lots of the cast agreed," Rupert said. "Rachel, Sidney should not have done that, and you should have come to me..."
"He gave me the impression that you didn't want me in the show anymore either," Rachel said.
"That's not true," Rupert said. "You would have been a great Fanny."
"So you want me back?" Rachel asked.
"We do," Rupert said.
Rachel didn't know what to say. This was her dream role, and she'd always enjoyed her Broadway performances. But she'd already gotten the boot once... what if she did again?
Chapter 26 preview: Finn faces trouble with the glee club as they prepare for Nationals. Rachel tells Finn about the call from Rupert and debates what to do next. Finchel continue to deal with the loss of their baby and think about the future.
