Chapter 25: Rescue
Xavier smirks as he hangs up the phone, "Sounds like you'll be going home soon... in a body bag of course", he said and laughs.
"You're a sick bastard you know that", I said.
Xavier punches me in the face, "You keep your mouth shut you Bitch!" he yells.
I spit out blood on the hotel room carpet, "You hit like a girl too", I said. A part of me tells me not to antagonize him but another part of me tells me that I'm dead either way so what else do I have to lose. A tear falls down my cheek as I shut my eyes as Xavier punches me again.
Richard's POV
"I'll meet Xavier here", I point to an area on the map, "The police and FBI can hide here on and then apprehend Xavier after the money is exchanged. If he tries to run the local police can cover the exits", I said explaining everyone my plan.
Bruce shakes his head, "I don't know I don't like putting you in the line of fire", he said.
"It's my fault that Kori is in trouble, so I have to do this", I said, "Besides the police and FBI will be there the entire time", I said.
There is a knock on the door and Alfred walks over and opens it a FBI agent walks in, "We're ready", he said.
"Ok", I said, I give a nod to Bruce and walk out of his study. I slip on the bulletproof vest and place my jacket over it. The vest is bulky and heavier than I thought but hopefully it won't be too obvious that I am wearing it. The FBI then places a small earpiece in my ear.
"As soon as you make the exchange we will arrest Xavier", he said.
"And what happens if he doesn't surrender?" I asked and judging by the officer's face I already know the answer.
Kori's POV
My eye is swollen shut as Xavier drags me out of the car, he slams the door behind him and glances around, "Don't see any cops, let's go", he said and pulls his gun out before he grabs my arm as I limp beside him.
We enter the warehouse and make a left into a dim light hallway, I see Richard and my heart starts to swell.
"Richard", I say weakly.
I see a spark in his eye for a second before it is filed with rage as he sees my current state. He turns to Xavier and gives him a murderous glare, "You said you wouldn't hurt her!" he yelled.
Xavier snorts, "Well it's not like I've never lied to you before", he said and laughs.
Richard clenches his fist and throws a duffel bag on the ground, "Here's your money, now let Kori go", he said.
Xavier drags me over to wear the bag is on the ground, "Unzip it", he orders me.
"It's kind of hard to do that with one arm", I said.
Xavier growls and squeezes my arm tighter, "Do I need to teach you another lesson you little bitch?" he said.
"Hurt her again and I'll kill you with my bare hands!" Richard yelled.
Xavier smirks, "I'd like to see you try", he said.
"Threaten her again and your wish may come true", Richard said.
Xavier let's go of my arm and holds the gun to my head, "Open the bag, NOW!" he yelled.
I unzip the bag with shaky hands and see the huge bags of money inside, "Now reach in the bag, I don't want any tricks when I get on the plan", Xavier said.
I dig in the bag for any listening devices or anything else, "There's nothing else in their just the money", I said.
"Good", Xavier said and pistol whips me hard and I fall to the ground.
"I told you not to hurt her!" Richard yelled and lunges at Xavier.
Xavier falls to the ground and Richard punches him in the jaw and pins his arm that has the gun to the ground. Xavier head-butts Richard and his arm go free and he points the gun at Richard's chest. Richard grabs Xavier hand and twists it. I see the FBI and police officers swarm in and the sound of gunshots fill the room as everything goes black.
I wake up and stare in bright lights of the hospital, I try to move my neck but it is in a brace. The pain hits me like a wave and I groan.
"Kori!" I hear a male voice say and he jumps out of his chair and rushes to my side, "You're ok", he said in relief and gently strokes my hair.
"Don't touch me!" I yell.
He retracts his hand quickly and gives me a confused expression, "You don't recognize me?" he asked.
"No", I said and look around, "Why am I in a hospital?" I asked.
The male gives me a heartbreaking expression and yells for a nurse. The nurses quickly come into the room and check my vitals and change my IV drip. The doctor comes in as well and asks me some simple questions such as what is my name and address.
"Now will someone please tell me what's going on?" I asked. The doctor writes some notes into his file and ignores my question. I sigh and glance at the door and I see my parents walk into the room hesitantly.
"Mom! Dad!" I yell.
My mom and dad look at me confused, "You remember us?" my mom said.
I wrinkle my nose up in confusion, "Of course I do, your my parents, why wouldn't I remember you?" I asked.
"What's the last thing, you remember sweetie?" My dad asked.
"I remember going to get frozen yogurt with you and Komi and Ryan and filing out my application for Gotham Academy", I said.
"Mr. and Mrs. Anders may I talk to you outside for a moment", the doctor said.
My mom kisses my banged forehead and leaves the room. I stare at the ceiling in confusion, why were my parents looking at me weird? And what happened to me?
My parents walk back in the room and sit on each side of the bed.
"Sweetie we know this may be hard for you to hear", my mom said.
"Ok", I said confused.
"You have amnesia, the doctor has estimated that you lost about six months of your memory", my dad said.
"What?" I said in disbelief.
"You were, well-"my mom said then clears her throat, "You were attacked and kidnapped by a boy from Gotham Academy named Xavier", my mom said.
"I don't remember that", I said as I start to cry, "Why can't I remember mom?" I said.
"Oh sweetie", my mom said and hugs me.
Amnesia
That words still rings in my ears. The police and my parents did their best to try to fill in my memory but the doctor said my memory will come back in time. There is a knock on the door and I notice it's the boy from earlier.
"Richard Grayson", I said.
He walks into the room and smiles, "You remember me?" he asked.
"No", I said and his smile falters, "I'm sorry, my mom told me who you were", I said.
"Oh", he said and I can tell he is disappointed.
"You can sit next down if you want", I said.
Richard nods and sits in the chair next to my hospital bed, "How are you feeling?" he asked.
"A little better they gave me something for the pain but it sucks not remembering what happened to me", I said and notice the flowers in his hand, "Are those for me?" I asked.
"Yea", he said and sits the flower in a nearby vase, "I know there you favorite", he said.
"They are", I said and smile, "Thank you", I said.
He smiles back, "Your welcome", he said.
A silence falls between us and I sigh, "You seem like a nice guy and I really wish I could remember you", I said.
"Me too", he said, "You see that ring on your finger?" he asked.
I raise my left hand and notice the sparkling diamond on my finger, "What it's for?" I asked.
"It's a promise ring that I gave you, I made a lot of promises on that ring which I intend to keep but I want to add another promise", he said.
"What promise would that be?" I asked.
"I promise to help you get your memory back, no longer how long it takes", he said.
I smile, "Sounds like a plan Grayson", I said and he smiles too.
