chapter 25
"Steve… oh god… Steve… please stop," Scarlett panted and Steve turned to smirk at her.
"Come on, I thought you said you could keep up with me," Steve said, jogging on the spot as Scarlett bent over, hands on knees, her chest rising and falling fast.
"That was before... you started to run at like... 1,000 miles per hour," Scarlett panted, over-dramatically to Steve and sat down on the ground. Steve rolled his eyes, but kept jogging on the spot.
"No-one can run that fast," Steve said.
"Flash can," Scarlett said and laid down on her back, as Steve walked over to her, stopping jogging. He held out his hand and Scarlett looked up.
"Flash isn't real," Steve said, and Scarlett gasped loudly.
"Get out of my sight," Scarlett said, waving a hand at Steve, who just smiled down at her. She looked away and up at the grey dark clouds forming up in the sky. Scarlett sighed and took his hand, letting him pull her up.
"Why don't you just go running with you're "on your left" buddy," Scarlett told Steve. Steve smirked at her as a few droplets of rain landed down on them.
"He always ends up getting very annoyed and nearly kills himself trying to keep up with me," Steve said to Scarlett who laughed, looking up at the grey sky.
"I bet he probable wants to punch you. You too bloody fast...Piggy back ride? Please," Scarlett asked, like a little kid as the very grey clouds starting to drop more rain droplets onto them and the rest of New York.
"Only if you keep me dry," Steve said and bent down in agreement, Scarlett jumped up onto his back. Steve jumped a little bit to get Scarlett higher up on his back and started to walk. She pulled the hood of her jacket up and then leaned her head around and kissed Steve on the cheek. She then tried her best to keep Steve dry.
"Thank you," Scarlett said as Steve walked quickly to the trees to get shelter. He walked along the outline of the trees to stay away from the rain. A few raindrops would land on them now and again, but it was better than being fully out in the open.
"You welcome," Steve said to her. Scarlett smirked and rested her head against Steve, closing her eyes wanting to go to sleep because she was so tired. After getting up so early and then going for a jog, she thought it would keep her energetic, turns out she was wrong. She wanted to sleep.
"STEVE!" Scarlett shouted as Steve let go of her. She slipped down his back and her arms rapped tighter around Steve's neck. Steve caught her legs, before she pulled him down with her, and then pulled her back higher up his back. "Don't do that," Scarlett said, hitting Steve with her hand. Steve laughed. Scarlett melted a little inside because of his such sweet laugh.
"What? You were falling asleep on me... literally," Steve said.
"Oh ha ha," Scarlett said, her heart beat slowly going back to normal. Scarlett could tell Steve had a big smirk on his face. "I was not going to sleep. I was just resting my eyes," Scarlett said and again Steve laughed.
"Like I can believe that," Steve said, walking out of the park and back to Stark Tower. Scarlett was covering most of Steve's back, keeping him dry as Steve was keeping her warm from the body heat he was giving off.
"So, you want to go get a drink of coffee?" Scarlett asked as they crossed the road, and Steve frowned.
"Where are we going to get coffee a 6 in the morning?" Steve asked. "And it's raining and we're wet. We should go home and get dried." Steve told her.
"Starbucks is where we get coffee at 6 in the morning, off course," Scarlett told him. "There's only one that opens at this time and it's just around the corner.'
"What's Starbucks?" Steve asked her and Scarlett fake gasped in shock.
"Steve… you haven't lived," Scarlett told him as he crossed the street, Scarlett still on his back. "Come on horsey, Starbucks we go."
Scarlett pushed the door open with her right leg and Steve walked inside. Scarlett then slid down Steve's back and landed on the floor. She walked over to the counter and asked for two Caffe Mocha's in tall cups. The women behind the counter smiled at them and started to get their order.
The women made the two Caffe Mocha's and then handed them to Steve and Scarlett. The women smiled at the couple and Scarlett smiled back, giving her a tip before turning and walking over to the table next to the window in the corner of the coffee shop. Scarlett sat down at the chair that was pressed up against the wall while Steve sat opposite her. She placed the plastic coffee cup on the table with both hands wrapped around it, trying to get her warm again. She was shivering a little as she took a sip of the coffee, the hot liquid trickling down her throat, warming her insides up making her smile a little. The women at the counter tried to yawn secretly before turning and walking into the back of the shop, leaving Steve and Scarlett the only ones in the front of the shop.
Scarlett turned to look at the busy New Yorkers running down the street, to their jobs Scarlett guessed. There was this one guy that had stopped at the side walk and was shouting for a cab. The guy was in a black tight suit and he had a long black coat over his head, held up by his right hand as he threw his left hand out to get the cab drivers attention. Scarlett turned her attention back to Steve as a women walked quickly down the pavement just outside the coffee shop with a yellow umbrella up protecting her from the heavy rain. Droplets of rain hit the window and raced each other down the glass to the bottom.
"It's good right," Scarlett said, noticing Steve had just taken a drink of the Caffe Mocha. Steve nodding as he took another sip of the drink, both placing it down on the table with his right hand.
"It's good... " Steve studied her for a couple of seconds before continuing, "You look cold by the way," Steve mentioned, concerned about her which only made Scarlett roll her eyes.
"I'm fine," she said, but she knew Steve didn't believe her, since her hands were shaking a little and her teeth were shattering ever so slightly. Steve felt Scarlett's foot wrap around his leg and Steve smiled at her.
"So, two lessons in one morning," Scarlett started."How to flip pancakes and what coffee to get at Starbucks." Scarlett said and Steve nodded. Steve moved one of his hands that were wrapped around his coffee cup and reached out across the table. Scarlett moved her own hand from her cup and reached out to hold his hand on the table top.
"I have to try Thai food," Steve said. "I think you should put that on your list." Scarlett frowned.
"Really, you want to try it," Scarlett said and then shivered. Partly because of the cold and partly because she hated Thai food. "Yeah sure, not a big fan off it myself but if you want to try it then sure." Steve frowned.
"Is it bad?" Steve asked and Scarlett shrugged.
"It's just… Eww" Scarlett said and Steve chuckled.
"I still want to try it," Steve told her and Scarlett shrugged.
"Find, but trust me, it won't be nice," Scarlett said to him, before taking another sip of her own coffee. It ran down her throat and warmed her insides up, making Scarlett moaned slightly.
After buying two buns from Starbucks and two more Caffé Mocha they headed out of the shop and back to the Stark Tower. Scarlett was on Steve's back as she wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. She kissed him on the cheek a couple of times as they, Steve, walked back home. The pain was still coming down hard as Scarlett pushed the door open with her foot to the Tower and they walked in. Scarlett and Steve went up to his room and he grabbed some fresh warm clothes, handing Scarlett a big jumper of his, which ran past her fingers. She curled up into the jumper as they walked out of the elevator to see the rest of the Avengers and Pepper sat at the table, eating pancakes and waffles. There was a baseball bat sat in front of Tony. Scarlett smiled and strutted into the kitchen.
"Well morning everyone. I hope you all liked my cooking. It's Steve fault you all woke up at like 4:50 am by the way because he burnt a pancake." Scarlett said as she sat down at the table in the middle of Thor and Tony and opposite Clint.
"Actually, you were the cook at that time. All I was doing was flipping the pancakes," Steve said and sat next to Natasha at the end of the kitchen table, smirking at Scarlett. "So it was your fault." Steve said. She glared at him and then turned to look at her dad.
"Morning Mr Grumpypants," Scarlett said and Tony turned to glare at her while she just smiled at him. "How was your morning?" She asked him.
"Well, I smashed all the fire alarms in the tower," Tony mumbled as he ate the rest of his waffle, not looking up from his plate. Scarlett grabbed herself one of the waffles from the middle of the table as Clint talked.
"It's true," Clint said looking at Scarlett. "Not nice having an angry billionaire come into your bedroom in the early morning with a baseball bat, and hammer the fuck out of the fire alarm in your room." Clint said with a mouthful of pancake.
"Attractive," Natasha mentioned as Clint talked with his mouthful.
"You love it," Clint said after taking a big swallow to get rid of all the food he had in his mouth. He turned back to look at Scarlett. "It was scary." Clint told her and Tony just grumbled about something.
"Where have you been?" Pepper asked, the only one to notice Steve and Scarlett's wet hair. They both looked at each other.
"We went for a run and then it started to rain," Scarlett said simply.
"You're stupid," Tony muttered under his breathe, making Scarlett punch him in the arm, no gently either.
"You're going to get a cold," Bruce said from the end of the table and Scarlett shrugged as she curled up more into Steve's jumper. It smelt like him and Scarlett loved it, the jumper running past her fingers. She felt safe and warm in it as she rolled one sleeve up a little to be able to eat her waffles.
