Chapter 25

"Momo, I just don't understand," Yuki muttered, "why did he do this? It doesn't even seem real." Yuki had been sitting down in the small chair in front of her desk as Momo leaned on the wall. Momo had entered a while ago finding Yuki with her face down and a tear trickling down her cheek. They were discussing Souhei's letter. At first Yuki was very happy and excited due to the scholarship until she saw Souhei's note. It said,

Dear Yuki,

Don't think that what I'm about to tell you is your fault, don't ponder to much about it like you usually do about everything. The reason this has happened is not due to you, it because of me. Therefore the reason I am breaking up with you, and in such a rude way, is because of my own insecurities and issues. I hope life treats you well, Yuki.

Love Sincerely,

Souhei

Yuki was in such shock and she couldn't understand what was wrong. "I think you should just let it be. Especially if he is going to break up with you in such a manner," Momo said with a pissed tone. She knew the truth, but she decided to keep it to herself, Souhei is the one that is supposed to tell her. "I think you should focus on that scholarship, it even helps you with the payment of the hospital in which you have been spending on." Yuki nodded in agreement. She gave one last glance at the Souhei's letter then folded it back and placed it in her pocket.

"I am going to tell Ame about the good news, then," Yuki said trying to cheer herself up.

When Ame saw the scholarship he was happy but a bit worried, "You know this means living in an unknown country on your own," Ame said.

Yuki nodded slowly, "But Ame look how much this will help us. Don't worry about your sister here, she knows how to handle herself. Plus my English is good enough to get by."

He gave me a sad look, "I will miss you sis," he said as he fumbles his fingers nervously. "I know you will be fine, you are my sis." He walked up to her and gave her a hug.

"Thanks Ame," Yuki replied.

"Now the problem will be with Mom," Ame said. Yuki hadn't even thought of Mom, all she hand in her mind was Souhei. She was about to reply when Akemi came out of nowhere and hugged tightly.

"Are you really leaving?" the girl said with tears on the brink of her eyes.

Yuki lifted the girl and hugged her tightly, "I'll come back and visit for sure. During summer vacations and Christmas, I'll come and see you again." Afterwards, they were all together talking about the things they'd do when Yuki came back. During summer, they'd go swimming together and in winter they'd built snow forts together.

At the same time, Souhei had already reached the apartment. He had been pacing around the room for about an hour trying to build up the courage to start packing. Finally he picked up something to put away, brought back terrible memories. It was the jacket he had used to lay Yuki's head up on that hill. He remembered the bitter taste of the roots, the burn he felt on his knuckles from punching the tree. His eyes started to well up with tears. "Oh Yuki, if you knew how much I loved you." His voice faded into the silence. He put the jacket on the table and not even as he left the apartment did he pick it up.

The apartment was completely empty and the only thing that was out of place was that jacket. That was what Yuki found when she came back on Sunday. Souhei's jacket. She picked it up and drew it close to her face. It smelled like him. Immediately she began to cry. She had just come from crying with her mother. After Yuki told her about the scholarship and the opportunities and how it helped them all. Her mom couldn't deny that it would be a great help, so she accepted. Though it wasn't easy, they stayed there hugging each other for hours, barely talking until her mother mentions Souhei.

"So what did Souhei think about it?" Her mother asked as she cleaned of some tears she had.

Yuki was quite for a moment, "He was ok with it," she said doubtfully and her mother detected this.

"Wait," her mother said as she accommodated on the bed, "have you even told him?"

Yuki didn't want to tell her about the note, but she knew better than lying to her mother. So instead she said, "We are taking a break, things having being going well lately."

Her mother patted her head, "Oh, I'm so sorry honey. I hope it gets better." Now as Yuki stood there hugging Souhei's jacket she hoped as well, that it will all get better. That her mother's cancer would disappear, Souhei would come back to her and hugged her tightly, that she would be able to live a normal life. But she knew it was impossible, that at the end of the day she was still a wolf child. Still she hoped things would get better.

The next morning as she boarded her flight, wearing Souhei's jacket. She was truly scared of leaving, but she decided to leave with a smile. She didn't want to worry her family and friends. So as soon as she entered the plane and was seated, she broke. She was already missing then and it hadn't even being an hour. How would she survive this?

Oh, YUKI! Don't leave me…
