"The weekend at last. Just one more week to Halloween." Thought Ron as he made his way from the Common room up to his dorm, his books and completed home work in hand. Putting his things away he thought he'd see if Hermione would like to visit with Harry before curfew, or should he say Professor Potter. It was still really weird to think that his best mate would be involved in grading his potions work. Heading out of the portrait hole Ron crossed the corridor to the Head-girls room and knocked on the door. The door knocker said "Mr. Weasley why am I not surprised, I'll let her know you're here." A moment later the door opened.
"Come in Ron" Hermione said taking Ron's hand and leading him in to her private study room.
"Hey love, I thought we might pay Harry a visit, maybe let him know what little we've found out about Ravenclaw, just catch up, ya know. We haven't really spent much time with him now that he's a Professor." Ron said
"I've just got to finish the prefect roster for next week and then I'm all done. Have you finished Harry's potions essay?" Hermione asked.
"Yeah, I owe him for that; three feet of an explanation of Charbills separation principal in relation to potion regression and alchemical mutation of precious metals. Thanks a million Professor Potter."
"Ron, you just have to learn it. Harry has to teach himself it, then teach it to us and then grade it. Just thinking about it makes me appreciate the amount of hard work Harry's putting in to make sure we get good grades." Hermione replied finishing her rota she magically copied it and sent it flying off to the various prefects as a memo, just as they did at the ministry.
"Yeah I suppose, but he doesn't have to write the essay." Ron grumbled as they left Hermione's room. "Hey Neville what's up, don't tell me you've forgotten the password." Ron asked his friend who was standing outside the Gryffindor Portrait looking perplexed.
"The fat Lady won't answer me, she's not asleep but she's not moving either." Neville said "I think someone's done something to her."
Hermione and Ron came over and sure enough the portrait of the Fat Lady was still as a muggle portrait. "That's weird!" Ron said
"Let's ask some of the other portraits if they know what's happened to her." Hermione said walking towards the staircase. Passing portrait after portrait that stood still; unmoving; muggle-like. "We'd better let the Headmistress know. This could be a prank, but I wouldn't know how to reverse it."
They made their way to the Headmistresses office and after giving the password and knocking they were surprised to have the door opened by Harry.
"Ron, Hermione come in, I was just leaving." Harry said holding the door open for them.
"Hi Harry, don't leave on our account." Hermione said as she entered the Headmistresses office
"Yeah mate stick around, we were going to visit you before this little problem popped up." Ron said clapping his best mate on the shoulder.
"Ms. Granger, Mr. Weasley what seems to be the matter?" McGonagall asked.
"Headmistress all the portraits on the seventh floor have stopped moving, I didn't know what to do about it, sorry." Hermione said
"No need for apologies Ms. Granger, both Professor Flitwick and I were stumped by the rampaging armour recently; however Professor Potter came to our rescue. Perhaps you would accompany me again Professor and this time you can have first try."
"Certainly Headmistress, lead the way Ms. Granger, Mr. Weasley." Harry said still holding the door for his friends. The four Gryffindors made their way to the seventh floor with Harry in the lead. Halfway up the last staircase Harry stopped.
"Professor Potter why are we stopping?" the Headmistress asked.
Harry walked up a step or two, then back down three or four. "Headmistress the magic stops here!" he said holding his hand up to a level on the wall.
"What do you mean Harry, magic doesn't stop, it has no boundaries." The Headmistress insisted.
Harry went to the seventh floor corridor and took one of the paintings from the wall and carried it down to where the other three stood. "Headmistress this painting is cut off from the magic and has gone still, like a muggle painting. Watch!" Harry took the painting down five steps and held it pointed at his friends. At first nothing happened then slowly but surely the trees in the pastoral scene began to sway. Harry brought it back above his waterline, the trees stopped. "The magic stops here Headmistress, I can't explain why, but it does. Where does Hogwarts draw its magical energy from?"
"The ley lines Harry" Hermione explained "Hogwarts is built on the conflux of three of Britain's most powerful ley lines. Honestly you'd think you two would have read Hogwarts, a History by now!"
Harry just shrugged at Ron "Then they are running dry or getting weaker or whatever ley lines do." Harry insisted.
"This is worrying, I've never heard of this ever happening before. I think I'll discuss this with the old Headteachers, if they cant help we'll need to access the old records to see if this has ever happened before … we'll take this up with the staff and the prefects tomorrow. For now Professor, if you would assist your friends gaining access to the Gryffindor Common room, we'll discuss this further tomorrow. Goodnight all." The Headmistress strolled down the stairs.
"OK let's see if we can access Gryffindor Tower?" Harry said resigned to his fate as a Professor. Hermione looked at Ron and he at her, they both smiled it was nearly ten o clock at night and Harry was still working. Reaching the Portrait hole Harry thought about what to do.
"Hi Neville." Harry said
"Hi Harry." Neville replied making sure no-one was around.
"Any ideas?" He asked his friends.
"Other than blasting or cutting our way in, no." Ron said
"If it was a muggle contraption I'd say its batteries need changing, but this is magic." Neville replied who was taking muggle studies as one of his NEWT's.
"Neville you're a genius!" Harry said looking at the Portrait of the Fat Lady carefully. "I need something … solid metal …"
"How about this Harry?" Hermione said pointing at a flail held by one of the suits of armour.
"Yeah that should do." Harry said holding out his hand and causing the flail to fly to him. The other three looked at him and shook their heads.
"Harry do you have to do that … it makes me feel really inadequate." Ron said.
"Sorry" Harry smiled as he snapped the chain off the flail with his bare hands. "I'm in a bit of a hurry. Now for the tricky bit; can one of you levitate me so I can reach the top of the portrait?"
Just as Hermione levitated Harry, four third year students and two fifth year couples holding hands congregated on the portrait hole looking for access. More footsteps could be heard running towards them.
"Oh great, an audience." Harry said taking his wand from its sheath. Ron and Neville hid their chuckles, knowing what it was like to have a tenth of the fame Harry had and disliking it too.
Harry concentrated on the job in hand. Wordlessly transfiguring the point where the flail ball touched the portrait frame he melded them together wood gradually becoming metal, the metal wood. "You can let me down now Ms. Granger." Harry said becoming all business with the addition of the other students to his audience. Hermione lowered him gently to the floor.
Harry cast his battery shield on the flail ball and checked it quickly to make sure it wasn't touching the portrait frame.
"Har … Professor, what is that?" Hermione asked the question everyone was wondering.
"Can you levitate me up there again please, Ms. Granger." Hermione did so.
"Thank you" Harry said to her "It's what Mr. Longbottom suggested we needed … a magical battery." Harry tied off the shield so he was no longer feeding it and it was no longer feeding him, instead it was feeding itself and the portrait. Harry signalled Hermione to lower him and he explained what they needed to do.
"Everyone listen up please. I want you all to take out your wands and cast the strongest spell you know at that metal ball. Please do not miss the ball. Now please." Over a dozen wands fired a variety of spells at the metal ball all of which were absorbed. "Ms. Granger, make sure everyone going in casts a strong spell at the ball to keep the magic topped up."
"Yes Professor." Hermione replied with a grin.
The Portrait of the Fat Lady sprang to life. "Oh! Where did you all come from? Hmmm … yes … Password!"
"Television" Neville said and the Portrait swung open.
The all filed in followed by Ron, Hermione and Harry, to be met by four angry prefects demanding to know where all the Gryffindor students had been, out after curfew.
"It's OK Mr. Rawlings, Mr. Calvin, Ms. Shellby, Ms. Tarnmeer, there was a problem with the Portrait hole and the Gryffindor students were unable to get in. Ms. Granger will explain what needs to be done to ensure that it doesn't happen again. Goodnight all."
A chorus of mumbles and "Goodnight Professor's" followed Harry as he walked over to the portrait hole and his friends Hermione, Ron and Neville.
"I was going to suggest we get the DA together and do something tomorrow, I haven't really had a chance to hang out with all of you in ages, but it looks like I'll be busy with this problem tomorrow. Sorry."
Neville patted Harry on the shoulder "It's OK Harry …" he whispered so no one else would hear him calling a professor by name "… I don't know how you do it to be honest, learning is hard enough, but teaching at the same time!" Neville shook his head "We'll get together when we can."
Thanks Neville." Harry replied clasping his friends arm. Neville said goodnight and Harry Ron and Hermione headed out to the Head-Girls door.
"Harry we understand … really. I was just saying to Ron earlier that it must be really hard doing what you're doing. We'll catch up on Sunday maybe yeah … or whenever you're free." Hermione said giving Harry a hug.
"Yeah mate, we understand … we'll try harder too, OK." Ron said bidding Harry a goodnight.
Harry said goodnight to his two best friends and walked back downstairs to his rooms, it was nearly half past ten and the corridors were empty and quiet. Opening the door to his office Harry was totally absorbed with the idea of the magic feeding Hogwarts, where did it come from … where did all magic come from. Determined to search the Hogwarts archives for any such information, Harry placed the wards on his office and sat in his parlour chair.
From the bedroom Ginny's voice carried "Am I going to have to beg you to come to bed with me? Maybe I'll have to drag you!"
Harry smiled and striding into his bedroom he marvelled at the sight of the beautiful woman waiting for him in his bed. "Beautiful Lady how can I stay your wrath?"
"You can get your backside into this bed and kiss me, before I hex you!" Ginny said in mock anger. Harry laughed, but got undressed quickly and did as he was told.

Ron held Hermione close as he said goodnight "I wish you didn't have to go." Hermione said.
"I know love, but I'd be missed from my dorm and it wouldn't take a genius to figure out where I was." Ron sighed. "I'm sure Harry and Ginny, know just how we feel." He concluded with a relieved sound to his voice. She was his little Sister after all!
After another dozen kisses goodnight Ron left for his dorm and a cold bed that no longer felt comfortable.

Harry woke to soft feather like kisses on his smiling lips "Morning love" he sighed between kisses.
"Morning, my Harry Potter." Ginny said pulling her boyfriend closer and snuggling in to him.
"Oh! Getting possessive on me now are you?" Harry grinned pulling her on top of him and wrapping her in his firm embrace.
"I couldn't live without you anymore Harry. You once told me you were like a drug, well I'm addicted. I need you." Ginny replied earnestly.
"You've got me Gin, forever." Harry replied kissing her deeply.
"Harry is this normal, to feel this way … I mean we've only been together for a few weeks and I already can't sleep without you holding me … are we going too fast …" Ginny sounded genuinely worried.
"Ginny we are bound to each other with more than these rings." Harry tried to explain, indicating Ginny's promise ring and the ring she had made for him.
"How Harry? Tell me … I need to understand why … why I'm so lucky … so scared."
"Ginny I … I haven't been totally honest with you." Harry blushed. Ginny's heart sank. "When I went to Godric's Hollow, I said there was information left for me there by my Father which related specifically to House Potter, in truth I spoke to my Father's portrait about … about the Forbidden."
"The Forbidden! Dark magic … you haven't …" Ginny began, her body going tense with fear as she pushed herself up on rigid arms to look with trepidation at the face she loved so much.
"Ginny you know me, I'm not another Voldemort." Ginny relaxed a little. "The Forbidden is not what you think Gin. The Forbidden is the magic of the Elder Dragons; it's my magic … Gin … I'm an Elder Dragon." Harry stated.
"That's your animagus form." Ginny insisted.
"No Gin, I am an Elder Dragon … and so are you." Harry said.
"What Harry? Are you mad … I'm not a … I think I'd know if I was a dragon Harry. What's this all about? … Why would you think I was an Elder Dragon?" Ginny stumbled through her thoughts.
So Harry told her what his Father had told him, what Yargic, Nehir, Deniz and Dumbledore had told him. He reminded her of her patronuses change and what exactly 'Kralliet Biri' meant. Most importantly he told her of the danger caused by what they were and could become. "So you see Gin, we are the last two remaining Elder Dragons except for Ollipeist who is my distant Grandmother or something and I guess yours too. Either that or you're related to Merlin or Albus Dumbledore." Harry concluded a bit lamely.
Ginny lay beside Harry trying to take it all in. "Harry, how could I be a dragon and not know it?" she asked.
"Same as me Gin, until my Dad told me I didn't know either." Harry explained. "Maybe this is why we are so good together; we're the only two like us on earth."
"So it's a bit like the twins … we're soul bound, we're meant to be." Ginny pondered. "And that's why they're always acting like everything we say is a command, they think we're royalty!"
"Yeah, you don't know how long it took me to get them to call me Harry." He sighed.
"So do you think I could do wandless magic too?" Ginny asked.
"Give it a try." Harry said. "We already know you can feel magic the way I do. Summon my Potions book from the chest of drawers over there." Harry pointed to the book.
"Accio Harry's Potions book." Ginny tried, the book wobbled but remained where it was.
"Feel the magic Gin." Harry encouraged. "Try it without words."
Ginny held out her hand and felt the magic in the room, it felt good, loving. Concentrating on the book Ginny willed it to her. The book shot across the room so fast it hurt Ginny's hand as she caught it. "Oww! … Harry I did it … that's amazing!"
"That's Forbidden Gin … you see it's not dark magic, its magic that power-hungry wizards and witches are afraid of." Harry explained "It's our magic Gin, Elder magic."
"This is going to take me a while to figure out Harry … I mean …" Ginny began.
"Time Ginny! Look at the time, quick you've got to go before someone figures out that you didn't sleep in your dorm." Harry jumped up.
Ginny grabbed her wand and the portkey from the bedside locker and kissing Harry quickly dashed to his office and activated the portkey. Reappearing on her bed Ginny jumped, Hermione was sitting cross legged at the end of her bed waiting for her.

Harry was late down to breakfast, the headmistress meeting him on her way out. "Harry, I thought you weren't joining us this morning." She said.
"Sorry Minerva I think this week of potions teaching has taken more out of me than I cared to admit. Trying to teach myself seventh year potions and then teach others has proved to be quite the challenge." Harry deftly swapped the truths.
"If you need assistance Harry, don't hesitate to ask. I know I've thrown you in the deep end and there are no fully fledged Professors here that are required to teach three subjects to the level you have managed so far. My own attempts at potions master weren't exactly brilliant." McGonagall said.
"I think I'm doing OK, and Professor Slughorn has helped me to understand the theory behind what I'm teaching the other seventh years, but I could do with an honest opinion on my teaching skills." Harry replied.
"I'll sit in on one or two of your classes next week Harry and give you an honest appraisal." The Headmistress said "Oh! We need to meet with the prefects and professors in forty minutes in the charms classroom about our seventh floor magic shortage." Tapping her finger on her temple she continued "I've also arranged an Order meeting for tonight seven o'clock, Filius will look after things here. Sorry I'm rambling on … enjoy your breakfast Harry, I'll see you in forty minutes … well thirty five anyway!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hermione! What are you doing here?" Ginny asked out of shock.
Casting a silencing charm on the curtains Hermione said "What are you doing here … twice?" Pointing at the sleeping Ginny in the bed. "How did you just appear here? Has Harry been teaching you how to apparate inside Hogwarts, or maybe just how to blend time? Where have you been?"
"It wasn't any of those things. I used a portkey given to me by one of the Professors." Ginny said.
"Harry gave you a portkey, to where? Don't answer that … it's to his rooms isn't it?" Hermione asked her anger rising "Ron can't even stay past curfew … it's not fair."
"It wasn't Harry who gave me the portkey Hermione. It was another Professor." Ginny explained. "If I had another one I'd give it to you and Ron, but I don't. I can teach you how to do that though." She said indicating her sleeping image. "Then you could show Ron. I should have thought of it before now. Sorry Hermione."
The wind seemed to drain out of Hermione's sails, she sighed. "No Ginny, it's I who should be apologising. I came in here to ask you how you and Harry managed to … well to not go crazy when all you want is to be together and you can't. I'm just jealous, that's all." Hermione hung her head.
"This is only the second night I've stayed with Harry and we haven't … well … been together yet." Ginny said blushing "I'm just not sure I'm ready yet, ya know." She ended the spell holding her sleeping image in the bed and looked to Hermione for understanding.
"You're worried about getting pregnant?" Hermione asked.
"No I have a charm to prevent that, I'm just not ready to take that step yet, Harry understands." Ginny explained.
"Could you teach me that spell?" Hermione asked indicating the pillow.
"Yes that one's easy. You touch your wand to your forehead and then cast 'somno speculum' while pointing your wand at your pillow. Ginny demonstrated and her sleeping image reappeared on the pillow. Removing it she said to Hermione "You try."
Hermione cast the spell and her image appeared asleep in Ginny's bed. "Well that is simple." she smiled. Ginny smiled back and proceeded to teach her friend another spell.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Headmistress hurried off and Harry looked around. Spying Hermione and Ginny coming in he decided that breakfast at the Gryffindor table might be nice for a change.
Making his way down to the end of the Gryffindor table he greeted his two favourite witches. "Good morning ladies, would you mind if I joined you for breakfast?"
"Of course not Professor." Hermione replied with a smile, Ginny just patted the seat beside her. Harry sat beside her and began helping himself to everything within reach.
"I hope I'm not embarrassing you both. Dining with Sir might not make you very popular." Harry said only half joking.
"I happen to be in love with Sir, so anyone who has a problem with me dining with Sir can get lost." Ginny replied running her hand along Harry thigh. An owl came flying in to the great hall a letter held in its beak. Dropping it in front of Harry it flew off to the owlery. "Mail for me … Ministry … more trouble." Harry withdrew a wad of parchment and his animagus registration card fell to the table. "Looks like I'm legal or someone is; this picture doesn't look right to me." He said showing the card to Ginny and Hermione. The picture seemed to be that of a Hungarian Horntail with arms and Ginny was either much bigger or Harry wasn't as big a dragon as he thought he was.
"How did you manage to master the animagus transformation so quickly, Harry? I've been reading up on it, trying to figure it out too, but it's really difficult." Hermione asked.
Well if you want I can give you a few pointers, I'm going to help Gin too." Harry said.
"You are?" Ginny asked surprised.
"Yeah I thought an after school club, kinda like the DA. See how many animagi we can train up before the summer. Whatca think?" Harry said.
"I think it's a great idea Harry, count me in." Hermione said.
"Me too." Ginny added "And I'm sure Ron will be there too."
"OK. Gin will you put the notice up on the main and common room boards, say Sunday five o'clock Quidditch pitch?" Harry asked.
"Yeah sure Harry." Ginny said
They ate and talked and all too soon Harry and Hermione had to go. Harry kissed Ginny goodbye and whispered in her ear "Keep practicing feeling the magic and when you're alone, wandless spells OK".
"Sure Harry, will I see you later?" Ginny asked.
"I'll find you when we're done." And so saying he followed Hermione to the Charms classroom.
