Chapter 25

I groaned as I sat up, rubbing my throbbing head.

"What happened?" I groaned, opening my eyes and looking around.

I was in a run down house, with collapsed tables and chairs, broken windows through which I could see an equally run down town surrounded by fur trees.

"Oh yeah, that," I muttered.

I got to my feet and took stock. My scarf was nowhere to be seen, so that was one weapon down, but the spear Azazel had given me was (somehow) in my pocket. Whether or not I could use the stupid thing was up for debate, but I decided that I'd hold off on trying unless I absolutely needed to. I flexed my fingers and summoned a ball of fire, followed by a gauntlet. So my magic and Sacred Gear was still working fine. One last test. I drew back my fist and punched the wall.

CRASH!

"Yep, thats working," I said, staring out the new hole I had just made in the wall.

Then again, how exactly would a Demon stop me from using my own powers? I'm not sure how strong Yellow Eyes is in comparison to Angels and Devils, but still. I twitched as I felt a slight flare of power and turned to see what appeared to be a little girl peeking out from behind a broken down bit of wall.

"Nice try," I said, shooting a fireball at the Acheri.

I ignored the Demon as it went up in smoke in favor of stepping out of the hole in the wall to take a look around. I couldn't see anyone so I closed my eyes and focused. Half a second later, I located a small group of energy signatures on the other side of town. I crouched and jumped up onto the roof of a nearby building a took off in the direction of the other Kids. It didn't take long to reach them as the Devil flys and I paused on top of a nearby building like a red headed gargoyle to take a moment and examine them. They all looked exactly like I was expecting them too, although I have to say that their auras were extremely odd. They were Human, yet I could clearly sense something corrupted and dark deep within each of them, some closer to the surface than others. Ava for instance reeked of the darkness.

However, I was much more interested in Sam. Why you ask? Well, for starters his Aura felt strangely like Vali's. It wasn't exactly the same, almost as if whatever I was sensing was weaker in Sam than the White Dragon Emperor. After a few seconds, I shrugged and got to my feet. Nothing I could do up here and its not like I wouldn't likely have plenty of time to study his Aura extensively for however long it took Azazel to get of his feathery behind and get me the fuck out of here.

I stepped off the roof and landed lightly on the ground with a thud. The sound drew the attention of the other Psychics who looked at me in surprise as I walked up to them.

"Howdy," I said.

"Whats a kid doing here?" asked Jake.

"Likely the same as you lot," I said, conjuring a ball of fire in my hand.

That probably wasn't my power, but it was the easiest to pass of as.

"Where did you get pulled from, a costume party?" asked Lily, eyeing my uniform with distaste.

"Nope, my clubs clubroom," I said.

"Wait, your still in school?" asked Sam, "How old are you?"

"17," I said.

"You don't fit the patten," said Sam, looking thoughtful.

"I'm also Japanese and my Mum is still very much alive if that helps," I said.

"How do you know about that?" asked Sam in surprise.

"I know people," I said mysteriously.

"What people?"

"The kind of people who are probably busy tearing that feathery prick and new asshole and trying to find me."

"Huh?"

"Nevermind."

"Thats it, I'm going home," growled Lily, turning away.

"And how do you plan to do that?" I asked, "Do you even know where we are?"

"More to the point, who brought us here?" asked Andy, turning to Sam.

"Either very angry smoke or Demons," I said before Sam could speak up.

Everyone turned to me.

"What?"

"How did you know that?" asked Sam, "Are you a Hunter?"

I snorted.

"Not even close," I said, "But I do know a bit about the Supernatural. For instance, I know that the reason we all have these abilities in the first place is due to a Yellow Eyed Demon. I also know that if we try to leave, we'll probably end up headless."

Everyone stared at me even more.

"Your remarkably calm about this," said Sam.

"Lets just say that low level Demons aren't exactly on my list of things to fear," I said.

"This is crazy," said Lily, "Your crazy. Demons don't exist!"

"Says the girl who can kill with a touch," I said as I picked up a length of rusted metal from the floor, "To the boy who can do this."

The piece of metal turned red and melted rapidly into a puddle of molten metal that splattered at my feet. I held up my hand to show my unburnt palm.

"Still don't think that Demons sound to crazy?"

"Alright, fine, say we believe you," said Jake, "Why are we here?"

"I don't know," said Sam.

"Me either," I said, deciding to keep my mouth shut about the Vessel and Demonic General thing, "Demonic bootcamp maybe?"

"So what, we're Soldiers in Demon war to bring on the apocalypse?" asked Jake.

"When you put it like that…" said Sam.

"And we've been picked?" said Jake, cutting him off, "Why us?"

"Who knows how Demons think," I said, "Maybe it has something to do with some kind of innate power or bloodline."

"Your right," said Sam, before he paused, "Um, whats your name?"

I blinked.

"Oh, how rude of me," I said, "Names Ren Tenno, nice to meet you."

"Sam Winchester," said Sam.

"Sam," said Ava, drawing Sams attention, "I'm sorry, psychics and Spoon bending is one thing, but Demons..?"

"Look, I know it sounds crazy…" started Sam.

"It doesn't just sound crazy," said Jake, cutting Sam of.

"Look, I don't care what you think," said Sam, "All I know is that we're all here and that means its starting. We've all got to…"

"The only thing I have to do is stay away from wackjobs," snapped Jake, "I've heard enough. I'm better off on my own and FYI, so are you."

He walked off, ignoring Sams protests.

"Jackass," I said, "Is it really that much of a leap from psychic powers to Demons?"

I ignored the looks I was getting.

"Hey Ren, you said you have people who'll be looking for you?" asked Sam.

"Yep, but I highly doubt Yellow Eyes will make it easy for them," I said, "I have no doubt that he'd taken steps to hide me, and the rest of us, from Supernatural means of detection."

"Seriously, who are you?" asked Ava.

I just smiled mysteriously.

"That my friends, is a secret," I said, "Oh, by the way, I think you should know that there's a rather nasty Demon disguised as a little girl running around. I torched it when I arrived, but I doubt that was enough to kill it."

"Jake," said Sam, before sprinting off in the direction the Soldier had gone.

"Hey, wait up!" shouted Andy, running after him with Lily and Ava hot on his heels.

I hurried after them, not really wanting to be left on my own in a deserted town. Hey, I may be a Devil who regularly fights things that could turn me into mush with relative ease, but ghost towns are still creepy. I caught up with them as a cloud of black smoke flew out of the house.

"Just so you know," said Sam, "That was a Demon. I could be wrong, but I think it was an Acheri, a Demon that disguises itself as a little girl. Still doesn't tell us where we are though."

He looked over our companions who all looked like they'd been slapped with a flounder.

"Andy, you OK?" asked Sam.

"Just reevaluating my place in the world," said the Mind Controller in a weak voice.

Sam turned to me.

"Since you seem to know a lot about this, I don't suppose you have some way of finding out where we are?" he asked.

"Nope," I said, "I have a few ways I can try and call for help, but I don't think I'll have much luck. Theres no way that Yellow Eyes wasn't keeping an eye on us, so he'll likely have jammed them."

"Give them a try anyway," said Sam.

"OK, if your sure," I said and held out my hand, "Lexura!"

To my immense surprise, the green square that accompanied the summoning of ones familiar appeared and I was promptly pounced on by an overeager puppy girl.

"GAH!"

"OTOU-SAMA!" she squealed as she tackled me off my feet, "Lexura missed you!"

She stood up and planted her hands on her hips, puffing up her cheeks in anger. It was probably supposed to be intimidating, but it just came off as adorable.

"You should summon Lexura more often," she said, "The Familiar Forest is so boring!"

"Sorry Lexi," I said, "I've just been busy with school and preparing for the Promotion Exam. I promise I'll try to summon you more often though."

"What is she?" demanded Sam.

I tilted my head back and saw that the Hunter, and everyone else, was staring at Lexura with a mixture of shock and confusion on there faces. Well, Sam also looked guarded, but I honestly can't blame him considering most of the things he encounters that can be classified as 'weird' can also be classified as 'angry and/or hungry with a taste for Long Pork'.

"This is Lexura," I said, pushing the Kubrow puppy off me so I could get up, "Shes my Familiar."

I turned back to Lexura before Sam could respond.

"Could you try and teleport back to the Club room and let them know I'm alright?" I asked, "Oh, and if hes still there, give Azazel a hard bite for me."

"Got it Otou-sama!" chirped Lexura, snapping a salute.

She stood there for a moment.

"Er, is something supposed to be happening?" asked Andy.

"Let me guess, you can't teleport out?" I asked as Lexura dropped her arm, looking upset.

Lexura nodded.

"Sorry Otou-sama, somethings blocking me," she said, "I can't even teleport back to the forest!"

"Thats what I thought," I muttered, "We can teleport in but not out."

I sighed.

"Sorry Sam, but if that doesn't work, none of my other tricks will either. But hey, at least we've got a guard dog now."

Lexura sniffed and took the hint, shifting back into her puppy form. I picked her up and stuck her on top of my head where she hung on like a fluffy hat.

"Riggght," said Sam, eyeing the Familier with trepidation, "Guess we should take a look around then."

It didn't take long to reach the center of town where the rusted bell hung.

"I've seen that bell before," said Sam, "I think I know where we are now. Cold Oak South Dakota. A town so haunted, every single resident fled."

"G-ghosts?" whimpered Lexura, "Naha, I wanna go home now Otou-sama!"

"I still can't get used to that," muttered Andy.

"Why would that Demon put us here?" asked Lily.

"Probably because its in the middle of nowhere and is reeking with Spiritual Power," I said, "I think thats whats throwing off teleportation. As for why, your guess is as good as mine."

"You know what, it doesn't matter," said the bitter woman, "The only sane thing to do is get the hell out of dodge."

"Bad idea," I said, "Not only are we, again I reiterate, in the middle of fucking nowhere, but the woods are probably infested with nastys to keep us in."

"He's right, we.." started Jake, before Lily cut him off.

"Don't say we," she snapped, "There is no we! I don't have anything in common with any of you!"

"So you can't kill someone with a touch?" I asked.

Lily fixed me with a glare that, if looks could kill, would have vaporized me on the spot.

"Lily, look, I know…" started Sam.

"You don't know anything," snapped Lily, cutting him off again, "I...I accidentally touched my girlfriend."

Everyone shifted awkwardly.

"I'm sorry," murmured Sam.

"I feel like I'm in a nightmare and it just keeps getting worse and worse," hissed Lily.

"I've lost people to," said Sam, "I have a brother out there and he could be dead for all I know. We're all in bad shape, but the best way out of this is to stick together."

"Fine."

"Right, now the touchy feely stuff is done with, lets get tooled up," I said, "Sam, your the expert on this."

"Right, we need iron, silver, salt, any kind of weapon," said Sam as he started leading the way towards a nearby house.

"Salts a weapon?" asked Jake.

"Its a brave new world," said Sam.

"Well I hope theres food in your new world," said Andy, "Cus I'm starving."

We entered the house and started rooting through the draws for anything that could be useful. I made my way through the house, pressing my hand against the wall, burning Seals on the walls with my magic. They served a dual purpose of creating a signal that my friends could hopefully detect and barrier through which Demons couldn't pass. Well, hypothetically at least, they were actually meant for keeping out Divine Beasts, but they should work on Demons too. I hope.

"Hey guys, I found something!" shouted Andy from somewhere else in the house.

I finished the final Seal and hurried to join the others where Andy was holding up two bags of salt.

"Great work Andy, now we can all…" started Sam, before he did a quick headcount, "Wait, wheres Lily?"

I paled and cursed violently in my head. With everything that had happened, I had completely forgotten about this. I quickly opened my senses, but I was already too late to do anything. We heard a childs laughter outside and hurried out. Sure enough, there was Lily, hanging from the windmill. I cursed once more and quickly suppressed the urge to snap Avas neck. I'd have my chance, but for now I'd just wait and try to keep the others alive. Who knows, maybe I could prevent the Apocalypse by saving Sam from snuffing it.

And there we go, the first chapter of the Cold Oak Arc done. That was actually surprisingly easy.

Sams quick acceptance of Lexura is mostly because, right now, he knows he needs all the help he can get. Believe me, once it comes out hes a Devil, the shit will really hit the fan.

As usual, please leave me a review and until next time, see ya around!
