After all the excitement of meeting up with our mentors, we were escorted back into our rooms we stayed in while preparing for the games. I missed the Capitol's cleanliness, but it wasn't homey and that's all I wanted right now.
I walked into my old room and admired the fish tank I spent so many nights staring at. A small smile appeared on face, knowing I made it back. My mind was just bursting with excitement. I walked over to my bed and took a seat on it and fell backwards and stared at my ceiling.
Those were the longest days of my life and knowing that my life could've ended at any moment, I realized how much I took my life for granted. I know knew, that I had to live my life to the fullest because my mom didn't give herself up to protect me, just for me to through at all away because I felt bad for myself. That's just pathetic. I knew the games changed me even if I didn't want to admit it. I feel as if I came out like a much stronger persona and I learned to hold my head up.
A large smile was plastered on my face as Cato entered my mind. At the beginning everything was so shaky with him, but as our romance blossomed, starting from the first time we laid eyes on each other at the tribute parade, we grew on each other. The games put a strain and held me back more than ever when it came to him, but in the end, he protected me throughout the entire games, even if I didn't realize it.
While reminiscing on my first couples days, Breckin's face appeared in my head and I could feel my heartache. I now know, I didn't love him the way I thought I did, but he still meant so much to me and I deeply cared for him. I envisioned the knife being injected in his stomach, and I could feel my heart drop into my stomach and my eyes prickled with tears for my protector. He was there for me from the beginning, but a smile erupted on my face as I fulfilled his one request, to win.
Someone clearing their throat interrupted my thoughts. As I sat up, I saw Finnick in my doorway with a grin on his face, making mine grow. Running up to him, I threw myself at him and hugged him as if I would never see him again.
"I'm so glad you made it. I don't know what I would've done without you," Finnick said in my ear and kissed my cheek.
"I thought I would never see you again, Finnick," I said as the tears rolled down my porcelain cheeks.
"I knew you would make it," Finnick spoke softly hugging me tighter. We stayed like that for a while, until Finnick broke away. "C'mon, we need to get you cleaned up for your interview," Finnick said.
"It's today already?" I asked surprised. "But we just got back!" I exclaimed shocked.
"The Capitol thinks its good to keep all your emotions soaked in or something, I don't know. I think it's stupid too," He agreed with me.
Walking into the main living area, I saw all my stylists sitting there waiting. Coralin was the first to stand up; she was obviously very excited.
"Ah! She's back! She made it!" She clapped and wobbled her way over to me. Peering down at her shoes I saw she was wearing bright yellow heels that were incredibly tall. She hugged me tightly and kissed both of my cheeks. I blushed and looked at the ground.
"Good job girlie!" Vitic exclaimed.
"We knew you would make it! Ugh! I can't wait to show you Gito's new creation!" Satilis said very cheerfully.
"Congrats. I believed in you from the beginning," said my favorite stylist of them all, Gito. He came up with his special purple lily that I always admired. He took his out of his suit pocket and placed it behind my hair, standing out against my golden locks.
"Thank you for believing in me," I said with a smile and engulfed myself in his arms.
"Oh! Now we must quickly get you ready for your interview!" Lidian exclaimed. Yep, I definitely didn't miss her annoying high pitched, squeaky voice. But deep down, I missed these guys clinging to me every second. This moment would have been perfect if Cato was by my side.
The stylist started chatting amongst each other, giving me a moment to ask Finnick when I would get to see Cato.
"Hey Fin?" I asked waiting for Finnick to turn around and look at me. When his eyes met mine, I continued. "Umm, when do you think I can see Cato?" I asked, my heart ached for him.
"They wanted all the 'star-crossed' lovers to reunite on stage in front of the entire district," he explained. Ugh, that's like another couple hours. "Sorry Colt," Finnick said while a frown grew on my face.
XXXX
"Ow! That hurts!" I yelled as my stylist plucked every hair out of my body again. You would think I would be somewhat used to this, but no. Every time it hurts more and more, not to mention when they pull the hairs out around my cuts and bruises.
"Almost done! Stop squirming!" Vitic said getting frustrated. I couldn't stop moving. After a couple more minutes, they finally finished up.
"Time for your new makeover!" They all said at the same time.
"Wait… new?" I asked, questionably.
"Yep! No one will recognize you after we're done!" Coralin said cheerfully. Oh no…
After hours of my stylist, picking, plucking, scrubbing, soaking and caking my entire face with makeup, they were done with that portion.
"We're finally finished!" Satilis said happily.
Standing up for the first time in about four hours, I walked over to the mirror and gasped at what I saw. My hair was no longer the beautiful, natural blonde I loved, but it was dark brown and as my natural waves continued on, the brown got lighter. I hate to say it, but I loved it! It especially made my blue eyes pop. For my makeup, there was a dark grey eyeshadow on my eyelid, but in my crease there was a tannish color. My eyeliner was very thick on my eyelid, but came out a little further on my face. I had no lipstick on this time, just some lip gloss. This look gave me a strong look, but also very innocent.
"Time to put your dress on! Ahh I'm so excited for you to see Gito's new dress!" Satilis said, jumping with joy.
"Actually, Finnick helped me with this one." My eyes shot over to the other end of the room to see Gito, Finnick and Lidian had just walked in.
"I want you to be remembered," Finnick said bringing a smile to my face. Nodding my head I went to go put my dress on.
Walking behind the little curtain area they had set up for me, my eyes wandered right over to the dress in the corner. My breath hitched a bit in my throat; my mom had a dress just like this. That reminded me of my mom's necklace. I grabbed for it on my neck and tears sparked in my eyes remembering her, but I had to push them back. I don't feel like dealing with my stylists freaking out and having to do it again. Blinking the tears back, I walked over to the dress and slid my fingers through the silk. A smile cracked on my face knowing Finnick knew about this dress.
"Hurry up! The interview is in 20 minutes!" Lidian hollered at me.
Slipping off my robe, I quickly put the dress on, adding the jewelry. Looking over into the mirror, I looked the entire dress over. It was a navy blue strapless dress and the fabric went to my knees, but the hem in the back went to my mid calf, allowing my ankles some show room. The front of the dress only went a little lower than my knee. Under my breasts was a bronze leafy, flower like pattern that went to height of my belly button. The ring they gave me, had a brownish gem surrounded by bronze leafs. After slipping that on and leaving my mom's necklace on, I walked out to my stylists, Gito, Finnick and Lidian. All of their eyes shot out of their head.
"It's even more beautiful than I would've thought," Finnick said bringing a blush rise on my cheeks. Suddenly I was bombarded with compliments from everyone, when a screech quieted everyone.
"Where are your shoes?! You can't walk out there like that!" Lidian exclaimed. Vitic brought out these beautiful navy blue shoes, that had rhinestones leading up the foot and around the sides of them. I was excited to put them on, until I realized they were heels.
"I can't wear those…" I said waiting for her screams. Lidian was about to object when Finnick cut in.
"I thought you would say that," He said as he began to reach into his pocket and pulled out a shot. I gulped in response. That reminded me of when we were on the ship getting ready to go into the games, still shook me up.
"Umm what's that for?" I asked.
"It'll numb your ankle, so you won't feel any pain since there will be a huge feast with everyone in the Capitol, and President Snow and you will need to be wearing shoes," Finnick explained. I agreed and he ejected the blue fluid into my ankle, relieving any pain. I slipped my shoes on and looked in the mirror one last time, before Lidian announced that it was time for the interview.
