Disclaimer: Only Diana and Apollo are mine

The coolness of spring gave a gentle breeze that kissed Artemis' skin. It was not cold enough to give a shiver. Just comfortable enough to give relief to the shining sun above. Now that winter was nearing the end, it brought forth the blonde's favorite month. How she spent this lovely day outside? Pruning bushes. The retired hero gave herself a little laugh at the thought that she would be doing something like this, much less enjoying it.

Artemis turned to her right when she heard a short bark. Diana giggled as she ran back and forth with Apollo chasing her. The four year old reached an old tennis ball and picked it up. Apollo without command, sat down and wagged his tail as he anxiously awaited. With all her might and a large smile plastered across her face, Diana threw the ball as far as she could. The dog took off running after it and brought it back, dropping it at the girl's feet to play again. Diana immediately repeated the process gleefully. Artemis gave a tiny grin at the scene before turning back to her task.

After a while, Artemis couldn't help smiling at her work. It didn't take long for her to finish trimming to perfection the once overgrowing bushes in the front of her home. She gave a grin and raised an eyebrow to her handy clippers, glad she was the one to pick out the correct tools around the house. As much as he would deny it due to his 'manly' ego, Wally was utterly hopeless when it came to the basic household work and how to complete it. Artemis did have to give him credit for the times he tried, and often failed, in around the house repairs.

Giving one last look at her final small bush, she paused as she noticed a single strand of leaves sticking out near to the ground. Preparing to crouch down and clip that final piece down, she froze when she heard a shriek behind her. Taking a half a second to realize that it was one sounding of distress coming straight from her youngest daughter, the mother wasted no time dropping the clippers and instinctively advancing to where she saw her last.

Artemis nearly had a heart attack when she didn't see Diana until she caught movement and short whimpers at the side of the house. She sprinted and dropped down to her knees to her daughter's level, pushing away the will to cringe due to the numb tingling in her knees. Artemis must have dropped down more forcefully to the ground than she thought. The mother pushed away her own pain and completely focused on Diana. The girl held her left arm to her chest, a lone tear threatening to escape her eye. She bit her bottom lip hard as she refused to look at her supposed injury. For only being four, Diana put up an almost convincing fight in attempts to avoid her painful struggles except for a few little whimpers.

Artemis had to gently pry her small arm away to see what the issue was. "Diana, what happened?" She asked tenderly. Finally, the dark haired girl loosened her grip on her own arm, the mother quickly examining over it.

"Something poked me. It… it hurts." Diana admitted. The blonde's stormy gray eyes stopped on a red welt just below her daughter's wrist. Narrowing her eyes, she barely noticed a faint, thin piece stinking up out of Diana's skin. She was stun. Likely from a bee.

"Let's get you taken care of, okay?"

Carefully guiding her inside, Artemis led her straight to the bathroom. She sincerely hoped she didn't harm her daughter any further by ushering her in, forcing herself to stay calm like her young daughter seemed to be. Even though her face didn't show it, Artemis hoped with all her might that her daughter was not allergic to bees like she was. Artemis was seven when it was discovered she had a severe allergy to bee stings and was taught to be constantly prepared with a small concealed vile of injection treatment on her person. A thought in the back of her mind reminded herself that she had a couple in her bedroom if the situation came to it.

Taking action, the mother grabbed out various antibiotics and simple first aids to place on the counter ranging from calamine lotion to small cloths.

"Now stay still for me, Diana," The girl bit her lip and nodded. Artemis expertly took the tweezers and concentrated on the stinger. In no time, she plucked it out and let it go down the sink. Turning on the water to cold, she pulled her daughter's arm underneath the faucet.

"Now keep it there," She ordered tenderly. Diana answered with a nod and a slight cringe. Artemis gathered up the right ointments and prepared to use them as she waited a few minutes, intently watching the red blotch on the girl's arm of any further swelling. She went back down on her knees and turned the faucet off and gently tugged the small arm towards her.

To distract her, the mother began talking as she applied the ointments. "Diana, do you remember what a bee is?" Again, a nod. "Did you know that bees can sometimes be everywhere and love to be around the little flower blooms? And why?"

The youngest West took a moment before she shook her head. Artemis answered, "It's because they help with pollination of the growing flowers."

Diana gave a confused look. "Isn't that bad?"

Now it was Artemis' turn to be confused, she paused briefly to look up at her daughter. Diana continued, "Irey said from in school that pollution was bad for everybody."

Artemis gave a small smile and chuckle at her words. "Pollinate." She corrected. "Bees help carry pollen to other flowers to help them grow. The flowers can be for fruits and vegetables so we also get food. You just misheard the wrong word, sweetie."

"Oh," Diana held out the word as she began to grasp the meaning. Then the girl gave a smile. "Like when you talked about using duck tape that isn't really a duck or sounds like one, on Irey and Jai to get them to stay still?"

"Duct tape, yes. You're right Diana,"

Artemis laughed at the memory from a few weeks prior that Diana obviously remembered. Wally, Oliver, and Dinah certainly got a big laugh out of it when she came over with a confused look asking if the tape quacked when they joked on using it on the twins.

Once Artemis got over the humorous memory, she looked back down to examine her daugther's arm, giving a quiet, relieved sigh. The swelling had gone considerably down and seemed to be healing fairly quickly. Perhaps the sting wasn't that deep. At least it was evident that she didn't gain her mother's allergic reaction to bees. That was a mighty plus.

Looking back up in Diana's eyes and gently holding both of her hands, careful on her left one, Artemis became serious. With a soft tone, she replied, "Now you understand that you were stung by a bee? They only do that if they feel scared or angry to protect themselves. I'm sure the bee was frightened and it was an accident, but you're okay. Just know that they can be dangerous and we don't bother them, right?"

"Yes, momma,"

Artemis melted at her daughter's innocent tone. "Good girl. Now how about we get cleaned up outside. It's almost time for lunch."

The girl gave a firm nod and looked briefly at her left arm before heading off to follow the task she had been given. Artemis watched after Diana as Apollo happily greeted her with a lick to the face, showing her his brief concern for her well being. Diana laughed and called for the golden retriever to follow as she picked up his toys. Artemis smiled at the thought of another minor crisis diverted, but couldn't help the tug at her heart that she knew that in the future, things wouldn't always be that easy.
