A/N: As I promised two updates.
Adela's thoughts...
I woke up to the feeling of someone's hands on my body. My head was lying on a soft pillow as I opened my eyes and saw myself in a stone room.
"You are awake. Good," I heard a familiar voice say. I started to roll my body until I felt a pair of hands move me back.
"No. You'll put too much pressure on the wound and I still have to bandage it."
I turned my head to see Rumil smiling down at me slightly. He held a wooden bowl and scooped a green, mushy looking paste out from it. From over a sheet that was pushed up till the top of my stomach was shown, I saw him gently spreading the gunk over an angry red line that was held together by black thread.
"You lost a lot of blood. You would've lost more if your friend hadn't kept pressure on it. You should thank her and apologize. You gave her quite the scare."
"Rumil… Why… How are you here?"
"We were given news from Lord Elrond that Helm's Deep was to be attacked. Our lady sent us here to help."
"S-So that means Haldir is here too, right?"
The stormy-eyed elf froze, "Yes. Yes he was."
"Was?"
Rumil took a deep breath before continuing, "Yes. My brother perished during the night."
"Oh my… Rumil I'm so sorry."
He simply nodded as he returned to putting the paste on my wound. One he finished, he cleaned his hand off. He handed me a medium size cloth.
"I need to sit you up to wrap you bandages. Use the cloth to cover yourself. The sheet will only get in my way."
Rumil helped me sit up before he turned around to face the wall. I moved the sheet off of me as I held up the cloth to cover my breasts, hugging it tight so I wouldn't fall.
"I'm covered."
He grabbed several long strips of white cloth and began wrapping them around my midsection. Once he was finished, he tied two ends of the bandages tightly together. Handing me a shirt and turning back around, I quickly placed it over my head.
"Do not lift your arms up too high," the elf started to say, not facing me, "the stitches will rip then."
I got off the bed and went to Rumil. His shoulders were slouched and I went around him so I could face him. His eyes looked tired and his mouth was set in a line. He looked so different from the last time I saw him. I put my arms around his waist gripping him tight. His arms wrapped around my shoulders as he rested his head on top of mine.
"Rumil, I'm s-"
"Shh. Don't say it. Just let me keep hugging you for a bit."
I stayed where I was keeping silent. Finally, Rumil took a deep breath before releasing me.
"I should go get ready to leave. Orophin and I should begin packing to make our journey across the sea."
He walked to the door as I looked on, "I'm not going to see you again, am I?"
"Probably not," he turned to face me a small smile on his face, "But promise to miss me?"
"How could I not miss a friend?"
His smile widened a bit more before he left the room. I sat back down on the bed thinking about the fact that Haldir died. I couldn't find a reason to cry though. The memories that I had with him were all good to an extent. I don't think Haldir would want anyone crying over happy thoughts. He'd probably think it was pointless.
The door to the room opened as Éowyn came in carrying a grey dress. She saw me sitting and rushed over, engaging a hug gently, but gripping me tightly.
"I was so afraid we had lost you. There was so much blood and-"
"Thank you. Thank you so much Éowyn."
She pulled back smiling. There was a small silence between us until I broke it.
"Well, so much for the caves being the safest place for us."
Thankfully the blonde laughed at that. She turned to pick up the dress from where she left it on the bed and held it up.
"Considering that you probably cannot lift your arms too high, I got you a dress that can be put on without having it go over your head."
After I was dressed, I asked the Rohirrim princess about the trio who promised to stay alive. She said that they were well and were in the hall, waiting for orders to ride out. I thanked her, happy that they were all alive. Quickly I jogged out of the room and down the stairs, careful not to move my arm too much. As I reached the hall, it was crowded. Men, women, and children were all around either packing or reuniting with loved ones.
I looked around the room until I heard a familiar voice call a name that I hadn't heard for months. Turning I saw Haru, his hair long running towards me.
"Wynter! Wynter!"
I froze, "Oh my gods… When did he get here? What am I supposed to do? Pretend like I don't know him? He's already recognized me. What if the others hear him calling out my name? Oh my gods… Oh my gods."
My breathing started to increase as the half-Asian stopped in front of me.
"Hey Wynter, don't you recognize me? It's Haru. R-Remember?"
Out of the crowd came Aragorn. He came over to us looking between the two of us.
"You must be mistaken. This girl's name is Adela."
"No that can't be right. This is my best friend's sister."
"How can you be so sure of that?"
"Her eyes. There is only one person I know who eyes look like this. This is Wynter."
As the two began going back and forth, my breathing quickened even more. The black dots started appearing again as I felt a hand grab my shoulder.
"Child, slow your breathing. You are about to pass out. I believe you and Haru have some explaining to do."
I looked up into the eyes of Gandalf as my panic attack subsided slightly. He motioned for Théoden to move to the throne room in Helm's Deep. As Haru, Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, and Éomer moved to follow, I grabbed on tightly to Gandalf's robes.
"You said not to tell."
"That was before I knew where you were from. Your friend Haru explained it all to me when he saw me with Prince Éomer."
"B-But… what if they kill me. And I don't mean metaphorically. I mean legitimately. What if they run me through on the spot?"
"Ad- Wynter. If you really trust and cherish your friends, you will tell them the truth."
Sighing heavily, I followed him into the throne room. When we entered, you could feel and see the room divided. Haru was sitting on the top of a table, feet resting on the seat. His hands were inter-locked as his elbows rested on his knees. Across from him stood King Théoden and the others, looking stern.
I sat down next to Haru's legs, keeping my eyes on the ground.
"So who are you really," I heard Aragorn say. Without looking at the future king, I knew he was talking to me.
"My name is Wynter. I have an older brother named Edmund. This is his friend Haru, who is also like a brother to me," and then I broke down and told the whole story, never once looking up from the ground. I gripped the dress I wore tightly, feeling my eyes begin to water.
"Why didn't you tell us before," this time it was Legolas who asked the question.
"For one thing I was advised by Gandalf not to. For another thing… I was afraid I was going to be killed."
"Adel- I mean Wynter. Why would you think we would kill you," the black-haired man asked.
"Why wouldn't I think that? I mean at first, I did what I did because it was the easiest thing for me to do. Then the council happened and I figured out where I was. A random girl, randomly appearing in a river, mute, claiming not to have any memories. Not to mention the people who pulled me out were in possession of the most evil thing in this world. No, why wouldn't you think to kill me. I almost slipped up several times."
"Were you planning on telling us?"
"No."
"Were you ever going to tell us?"
"I preferably would have chosen to never have this conversation."
There was a silence filling the room as some of my tears escaped. I knew telling them that would hurt them a lot, but it was the truth. If things had gone my way, we would not be having this conversation right now. Éomer began speaking to Haru once he was sure Aragorn and Legolas would not continue their questions.
"And what lies have I been told?"
"None, except for the fact that I could fight with a sword. Trust me, there is no way I would lie about an eight year old Wynter talking about what our wedding would look like. That was the most enjoyable six to eight months that I had. She even thought about naming our kids after her stuffed ani-"
"Haru is now really the time for this," I looked up at him.
"I guess not… but you have to admit, naming a baby Snuffleuffleges is pretty outrageous."
I smiled shaking my head. A few giggles left my throat as I hit his knees with my shoulder.
"I missed you."
"Missed you, too, Wyn."
"So what do we do with 'em now," Gimli asked, his face looking slightly crest fallen.
"Haru has not shown me disloyalty. He has also just proven the story he told me when we first met and has shown himself very capable in using a sword. I see no reason for him to leave," Éomer replied to the dwarf, "I do not believe it is in our right to decide what to do with Wynter."
The prince of Rohan was looking at Aragorn as he finished his sentence. Aragorn sighed deeply looking at me. I could see in his eyes that he didn't know what to do. Thankfully, that was when Gandalf came into the conversation.
"Wait, Wynter, child, you told me that a voice whispered in your ear, is that correct?"
I nodded my head, slightly confused as to why he was bringing the up now.
"And Haru, you told me the same thing right? Do you remember what the voice told you?"
"Yes I did. The voice pretty much said, 'Sorry that I took her instead of you. I made a mistake and your voices were overpowering. So instead of bringing her back to you, I'm going to send you there because there are useful lessons for her to learn here', or something like that."
"So I was never supposed to be here?"
"I guess not," Haru shrugged looking at me.
"And how much time has passed since I came here?"
"Well, I think it was about May or June when I came here. It was late September when you disappeared... Well I guess left, now that I know where you are."
"So I missed Doctor Who?! And Sherlock?!"
"Y-yeah," the half-Japanese looked at me, shock appearing on his face, "But I don't see why that would matt-"
"It matters because Sherlock was supposed to go to John and tell him he's alive so my Reichenbach feels could be mended! AND 10 and 11 were supposed to be together with Rose and Clara. I needed that in my fangirl life and now it's gone!"
I heard laughter in Haru voice as he said, "So you weren't worried about school, or the fact that you turned sixteen and could have totally gotten your driver's license?"
"Well… I mean… school did cross my mind once… but I had more important things to worry about."
"Excuse me," Éomer started, "What exactly are 'Reichenbach feels', '10 and 11' and 'fangirl'?"
"Well the term 'feels' is us-"
"And here she goes," Haru mumbled.
"Shush. Anyway, 'feels' is a term used when you have an overflowing feeling of emotion that cannot be easily conveyed by words. Reichenbach is short for "Reichenbach Fall" which is the last episode of Sherlock to be aired in a long time. In which Sherlock faked his death and cause John Watson some serious pain. That is not okay. 10 and 11 refer to two of the Doctors from Doctor Who. And, well, I'm kind of an example of a fangirl."
"Well… at least we know why you were so baffling now," Aragorn smiled somewhat relieved, laughing softly.
"What do you mean Aragorn," Legolas questioned the man.
"I mean that, she obviously hasn't changed. Adela is still Wynter."
"So… I can stay with you guys," I asked looking up at the trio.
"Yes, but we cannot keep the level of trust we had with Adela. You are now Wynter and therefore we cannot trust you as we once did."
I let out the breath I had been holding. Shooting up, and went to hug Aragorn. After letting him go I hugged Gimli. The dwarf quietly mumbled how he was glad I wasn't a complete traitor as he slowly patted my back. Stopping in front of Legolas, I smiled slightly.
"I'm sorry that I lied… but thank you for keeping your promise," I hugged him tightly. His arms wrapped around my shoulders as I breathed in his scent. Even after staying up all night, killing things, he still smelled like the rain and pine trees.
"Uncle, we should be heading out to Isengard now that our business is over," I heard Éomer's voice cut through. Pulling back, I smiled at the elf one last time before I went back to Haru.
"Yes. Éomer gather some of your men. Aragorn, you and your company shall come. Except for the girl."
"No can do sir."
The blonde king turned towards me, giving me a pointed glare, "And who are you to question my orders?"
"No one, but I just got my family back. I'm not going to leave them again. So it's either I go with your consent or I go without it. Your choice."
I packed a small traveling bag to take with me. With the late start we were getting, we would make it half way to Isengard, rest for the night, finish the journey and then have about another day to return back to Edoras. There was a knock on the door as I gave the person permission to open it.
"I have herbs that the elf healer told me to give you. He said it would dull the pain and help you sleep," Éowyn said, handing me a small pack.
"Thank you."
"Are you really going to Isengard with the others?"
I turned towards the princess, "I don't want to be separated from my family again."
"But you said so yourself, Haru is not blood related to you."
"That doesn't mean him, and Aragorn, and Gimli, and Legolas aren't family. There is a saying from where I come from, 'Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.' They aren't going to leave me behind this time."
The blonde hugged me tightly, "Just be safe and do not do anything reckless. You will re-open your wounds."
I nodded, hugging her back, "Thank you Éowyn."
A/N: So I guess technically, these are two "filler" chapters, but there was advancement in the story in this one. Haru's back! Yay?
