Chapter 25

Mattie POV

I was sitting in Vivaldi's room with her next to me on her bed. I was hugging a stuffed bear with a bow around it's neck and she had a small stuffed rabbit.

"So Mattie, what must you discuss with us that is so urgent?" She asked smiling gently. I swallowed the lump in my throat and looked down.

"I um, would like to talk to you and ask for advice." I said looking at my shoes.

"Oh? Concerning what?" She asked and I tightly shut my eyes as I could feel tears build up.

"I..." I sniffled a bit. "Everything has been going so perfectly, but recently... something has come up." I whispered so my voice wouldn't noticeably crack.

"What has come up?" She asked tilting her head.

"I..." A tear rolled down my cheek and I took a shaky breath. "I think I'm pregnant." I whispered as a few more tears rolled down my cheeks. I could hear Vivaldi gasp.

"With the March Hare?" She asked surprised and I quickly nodded. I felt arms wrap around me and I leaned into her embrace. "Why are you so worried? We are delighted to hear you will be bearing adorable little hares." She said and I sniffed.

"B-but I'm too young to have a child! And how do I know Elliot even wants to have kids?! I don't know the first thing about taking care of children!" The rest of my words were unintelligible as I started to cry.

"Hmm, we believe you should speak with your beloved and talk everything out. Only then will you know what to do." She said and I looked up at her.

"You really think so?" I asked and she nodded.

"Yes, we believe this is best." She said with an affectionate smile. I gave a nod as I sat up and wiped away my tears.

"Alright, I think I'll do just that." I said smiling and she grinned.

"We are delighted. Tell us how everything turns out!" She called as I got up and rushed out of her room. I waved at Peter on my way out. My legs carried me down the halls and out of the castle as I sprinted back to the mansion. I ran through the gates and waved at the twins as I passed by. I was out of breath as I ran through the halls and bursted into Elliot's room. I blinked and huffed as I saw it was empty. I panted as I closed the door and ran down the halls. I ran up the stairs and there was no sight of him. I ran down the stairs to the underground floor, and still nothing. I ran through the wings and must've turned the whole mansion upside down. I sighed as I walked back to his room and saw that it was night time. I pouted and sat down at his desk.

"Maybe he went out." I mused to myself as I yawned. I grabbed a paper and a pen.

'Elliot,

I have something really important to tell you. I was looking for you all day but couldn't find you! I'll just have to tell you tomorrow, don't wake me up because I'm tired! ~Mattie'

I smiled at the note and left it on his desk where he could see it. I undressed as I went under his covers and yawned. I closed my eyes and fell asleep. I opened my eyes as I saw the familiar endless gray space and the usual gray nightgown on me. I saw Nightmare and he looked really stressed out. I tilted my head as he looked paler than usual and kept pacing around agitated.

"What's wrong Nightmare?" I asked and he turned to look at me.

"Oh, hello Mattie, how are you?" He asked making small talk.

"I'm fine, but you don't look so good, what's wrong?" I asked and he swallowed hard.

"I have to make a very difficult decision." He said and I blinked.

"About what?" I asked and he sighed.

"About people I know and care about, it concerns their futures." He said and I sat down.

"Oh, well, just do what you think would be best for them. If you think they'd be happier with what you choose, just go for it." I said and he tilted his head.

"You think so?" He asked and I nodded.

"Im sure of it. Even if those people get mad at you, in time they'll understand why you decided to do whatever it is you were planning on doing." I said and he rubbed his chin.

"Hmm, you make a good point. Well, if you're sure." He said and I nodded smiling. "I know! As a present for helping me decide what's to do, I'll give you a nice dream." He said smiling as he waved his hand and everything shimmered before disappearing. His smile... seemed off. And that wave felt like a goodbye wave...

Oh well, I'm sure it's just my imagination. I smiled as I was thrown into a colorful world of pleasantness.

Elliot POV

I walked into my room just as night turned into dawn. Blood sent me out to track a spy so I was tired as I walked in. I tilted my head as I looked around the empty room.

"Hmm maybe Mattie went to sleep with Alice." I hummed to myself as I sat at my desk and a paper caught my attention.

'Elliot,

I have something really important to tell you. I was looking for you all day but couldn't find you! I'll just have to tell you tomorrow, don't wake me up because I'm tired! ~Mattie'

I wonder what she has to say?... I sighed as I went to my bed and laid down. I scrunched my eyebrows as I sat up. It smells like Mattie and is still warm. Oh, maybe she's in the bathroom. I knocked before slowly walking and seeing it was empty too. Where could she be? I got up and walked around the mansion. I checked the halls, the kitchen, I even went outside for a bit. I knocked on Alice's door before I peeked my head in and my eyes widened. She's gone too. I walked to her untidy bed and felt the sheets were warm too. I didn't hear anything while I was coming back and the sheets are too warm for her to have not left recently. Where are the girls? I walked to Blood's study and knocked before walking in. He didn't look up from a book he was reading.

"Yes Elliot?" He asked not turning his attention away from the book.

"Where are the girls?" I asked and he blinked.

"Why, I suppose they're sleeping." He said putting down his book to look at me.

"Neither of them are in their beds and I already checked the mansion and outside. He furrowed his eyebrows.

"They were there not too long ago." He said and I started to worry.

Where could they have gone?

Nightmare POV

I paced in my study as I wrung my wrists. Mattie said they'd understand. I'm doing what I think is best after all. Alice wanted to be back with her sister more than anything, and Mattie couldn't live without Alice. No one in Wonderland approved of Alice's relationship with the mafia head and we were all worried about her safety. Mattie could take care of herself, but we all also worried for her none the less. Her being impregnated by the March Hare was the last straw. I noticed it the moment her body changed. This is good, they can be back in their own world and safe. I did a good thing. Yes, this was all for the best. I did what was best.

"Master Nightmare?" I heard Grey asked as he opened my door. I dropped my head in my hands and let my unshed tears fall.

"Grey, I've made a horrible mistake." I whispered.

Mattie POV

I rolled onto my side as I stretched my arms up. I kept my eyes tightly closed as sunlight drifted onto my face.

"Hmm, Elliot?" I asked as I felt around the sheets and found nothing but fabric instead of Elliot. Wait, these sheets are really soft... Come to think of it, this blanket it too heavy. I slowly sat up and looked around. The room was incredibly familiar, but not the one I expected to wake up in. The walls were painted a baby blue with while and black stripes down the walls, I was in a four-poster bed with a white comforter and matching pillows with blue silk on them while the posters were blue with white silk. I looked around and saw a duffle bag full of clothes, pictures from long ago on the walls, a desk with plenty of paper and pencils, white curtains that opened to show a luscious green backyard, drawings on the walls, a dresser, a wardrobe, and a shelf full of books, my eyes widened and I threw the covers off me to see I was wearing the underwear I slept in. I grabbed my silk robe and tied it on as I opened the door with bang and sprinted to Alice's room across from mine. I slammed her door open and she turned to look at me with tears flowing down her cheeks.

"We're home." She whispered in a mixture of excitement and confusion. I fell to my knees.

"No." I whispered as my heart broke.
