Their boots crunched on the leaf laden path as they unloaded the boxes from the moving van and carried them inside the house. Damon lugged his guitars upstairs to his new studio and several of the guys from the crew helped him with his guitar amps and the rest of his instruments. When they had unpacked everything, Bonnie stood in the middle of their new dining room; arms folded against her chest and glanced around their new home. This was their first purchase as a newly engaged couple, a beautiful home in Los Angeles, California.
The dark wood floor broke the white monotony of the dining room walls and the vaulted ceilings with wood beams made their footsteps echo around the empty space. Bonnie took in the wall of bay windows overlooking a garden adorned with brown and gold fall foliage. She watched as a few leaves scattered off in the breeze and a chill chased up her spine. She took in the stone fountain with algae and the pigeons perched at the edge of the feeding bowl. The house was too big for the two of them and Bonnie wondered if Damon had suddenly bought into the notion of stardom and the L.A scene. They'd seen each other as much as they could in the span of a year but between him working on new album in Seattle and her job at Rolling Stone in New York, what they had was basically a long distance relationship.
"What do you think?" Damon asked as he stood behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. Since he was the one who had handled the contract by getting his people to close the deal on the house while she stayed in New York, it was her first time seeing the place. She didn't want to mention her concerns about the size of the house because he'd clearly gone to great lengths in procuring it and even greater lengths to impress her with this surprise. The house only served to remind her about how much she hated the newfound fame and the perks that came with it.
"It's great" she shrugged, glancing back over her shoulder at the narrow hallway leading to their new industrial kitchen.
"Are you sure?" Damon asked, inspecting her face with his piercing blue eyes. Shaking her head to clear her mind, she smiled at him and ran a finger along his jawline, feeling the prick of his stubble. Sliding her arms around his waist, she drew him closer to her kissed his mouth. The warm flesh of his lips as she claimed his mouth sent a shiver through her and she had to steady herself by clinging onto him. After a year of being in a wild relationship with Damon Salvatore, his kisses still made her quiver.
