Chapter 25: When Will I See You Again? I Miss You!

It was a cold and snowy night on Rusukaina. Luffy signed as she walked across the snow covered grounded and pulled her cloak closer to her body as the wind blew wildly around her. Tomorrow marked the end of her two years of training. She would finally see her crew again. See her family again. Well half of her family anyway. After all Law and the Heart Pirates were already in the New World. She hadn't seen Law or the Heart Pirates in four months. Not since Law gone off the grid to track down someone named Ceasar Clover or something like that and his crew had gone into hiding on an island called Zou. Once a week Law would call her on the den-den-mushi to let her know he was all right. The same was for Bepo and the rest of the crew.

Luffy walked passed the frozen lake and glanced at her reflection. Pulling the hood of the cloak down and letting it fall open she took real good look at herself. She had changed in the last two years. She still had the same scar on her cheek, warm chocolate brown eyes, and big toothy grin. But others parts of her had clearly changed. Her hair had grown out revealing its natural wavy and reached the middle of her back and she had started to wear it in low and relaxed ponytail using what was once Law's furry hat rim as a hair tie. She had stopped hiding her figure behind baggy clothes and chest bindings as well. Now Luffy wore black ankle low heeled boots with a pair of short-short jean shorts with fuzzy cuffs at the end with a long yellow sash as a belt and a red cardigan that she left open showing the yellow bikini top and more importantly the scar. The X shaped scar that rested just between her breasts and over her heart.

Looking around at her she smiled at three beasts that were dutifully following her. Of all the creatures she had tamed on the island the last two years they were the ones she was closest too. She even named them: the blue gorilla was Saru, the alligator was Bindy and the lion was Ari. Out of all her pets on the island these three had actually followed her since they were babies. All of them had been the runts of their families and had been abandoned and left to die. Just a few months after she had arrived on the island Luffy had found the three of them hiding in an old stump of a dead tree shivering in the cold. They all had been so tiny back then that they were smaller then Chopper in his normal form. She ended up taking care of them and in two years the three had grown to be the size of a two-story building. Even though she joked that she couldn't eat them now that they were her friends they knew she loved them. Still there were some animals on the island that refused to submit to her despite how easily she could beat them now so she still had plenty to eat even if now she was feed herself and the three beasts.

Hancock had also refused to listen to Rayleigh and would visit every few weeks with supplies. She was partially behind the change in Luffy's appearance since the clothes she brought were always very feminine. Still it was nice to see her and the other Kuja once in a while since Rayleigh had left six months ago. Law and his crew used to visit once a month for a few days, but since he had gone hunting for Ceasar it had been pretty lonely. It reminded her of her time on Dawn Island after Ace left. Still in less then twelve hours she would be on the Kuja's ship and on her way back to her beloved crew. Suddenly she heard a growl and a large boar with a red fur came charging at her. Luffy rolled her eyes before she punched the boar with a Haki covered fist. Looks like she and the boys were having pork for dinner.

Later

Luffy stared at the snail waiting for Law's call. He had promised to call at midnight just like always. In the two years that they had been together things had been better then one would expect with such fast paced relationship, especially since they didn't see each other for weeks at a time. But they were both kept busy since Luffy was training her Haki and Law was busy with his Warlord assignments. Still before he went on the hunt for Ceasar he would call her at midnight three times a week just to let her know how things were going. Luffy was still a little pissed about just how Law got into the Warlords. Hunting down other pirates and giving the Marines their hearts was cruel, but Law told her he went mostly after pirates that were real monsters that raped and killed the innocent just for the fun of it. Of course he could have been lying to her about that, but she chose to trust him.

Law would visit whenever he could. It was pretty easy for him to slip away with the Polar Tang after all. The only problem they had was at the beginning the Government would constantly calling him to keep tabs on him. It seemed the Government had learned a lesson from Blackbeard and just excepting someone who kissed their asses by handing over a big named pirate or in Law case multiple big named pirates and weren't taking any chances of Law betraying them. They had only let up after the Rocky Port Incident, taking it as a sign of Law's loyalty. After that Law had the same amount of freedom as any of the other War Lords. Which was why he was able to disappear for months to track down Ceasar.

Luffy leaned back against the wall of the building that had been her home for the last two years. She and Rayleigh had started sleeping in the ruins of the old kingdom during the night once their fourth winter there and it was decided they needed a little shelter from the elements. Rayleigh found one near the center of the ruined city while she found one close to the lake. Hers was a small one room building that had surprisingly survived the natural decay of time while many of the other buildings were missing roofs and walls or were just piles of rubble. The building Rayleigh had claimed was the only other one that was completely intact. Still it wasn't much, but it was comfortable enough at least and it gave Luffy and Law a place to have a little privacy since when he and the Heart Pirates visited since the crew wouldn't leave them alone when they were all on the sub.

Over time she had made it her own with what little possessions she had on the island. In one corner Law had used his power to fashion some shelves using rubble from one of the other buildings. On one shelf were books that Law had given her during some of his visits so she could continue practicing her reading. On another were some pictures Law had given her of the Heart Pirates, as well as the Kuja, Rayleigh and Shakky and all of her friends from Sabaody Archipelago. Law had even given her a picture of her crew Shakky had taken of them when they were all on Sabaody Archipelago. On the top shelf were the pictures of Ace and Kuma with sage burning next to them and vase with fire and panda lilies rested next to their pictures. In the opposite corner was a pile of animal furs for the island that Luffy had fashioned into nice soft bed. The bed didn't have any blankets or pillows but with all the pelts Luffy was able to make nice warm cocoon to sleep in. Next to the bed was a chest the Hancock had given her during a visit. It black with gold outline giving it the look of old-fashion treasure chest. Luffy kept her clothes in it as well as few trinkets that she had gathered over the last two years from the island. All around the room were pots filled with flowers from the island. She already had plans to give them to Amazons while taking some seeds and planting them in the garden on the Sunny.

And lastly by the fur bed was a small stone block that acted as a table, which held her mother's necklace and Law's mother's bracelet. Luffy picked up the necklace and smiled at the gentle glow it gave once it made contact with her skin.

Purupurupuru! Purupurupu!

Luffy was shook out of her thoughts by the sound of the den-den-mushi quickly grabbed the phone and said, "Sunny."

"Polar. We have to make this quick tonight Lu there is pretty bad storm out right now and I don't think the connection can hold out for long," Law explained quickly.

"Okay. I just finished packing and ready to head out tomorrow. I'm so excited to see everyone that I can hardly wait. I can't wait to show them what I have learned over the last two years."

"I'm sure they are just as excited as you are Lu. Just go easy on them with the hugs when you see them okay. Last time you nearly suffocate half my crew because you were squeezing them so tight," Law stated with a chuckle.

"Oh haha very funny Law," replied Luffy.

"It a joke Lu."

"Your sense of humor sucks Traffy.

Law groaned, "You know I hate that nickname. Why do you keep using it?"

Luffy snickered and said, "Because I like it, but if you want I could start calling you Lala instead."

''On second thought I love the nickname Traffy," Law stated quickly knowing very well that Luffy would do it.

"That's what I thought. So how are things going with that Ceasar Clover guy?"

"It Clown Luffy and I am just about ready for my next move."

"Does that mean that we can meet up soon? I want my crew to meet you as soon as possible!" Luffy exclaimed with a smile.

Law was silent and for moment Luffy feared she had lost the connection when he finally said, " I don't think so Lu. This is very delicate step and if I don't tread carefully the Warlord will see us coming from a mile a way."

"Why can't you just go in there and beat the crap out of him. It much faster and always works me and my crew," Luffy grumbled.

"First that not how I work and you know that Luffy. Second if we don't take it slowly we could have not only the Warlord and Government going for our heads, but Kaido as well and even with the strength we have gained in the past two years I don't think we can handle all three at once.

"Then can't you at least tell me where you are? I mean not even Bepo and the others know and they are really worried Law."

"No I can't do that either Lu. I know you well enough to know that if you knew where I was you would just come look for me."

"But Law…"

"Luffy listen I know that the last few months have been hard but this is what needs to be done in order for us to bring Kaido down okay?"

Luffy signed softly and said, "I understand, but when will I see you again?"

"I don't know Luffy. You just need to be pat-" Law was suddenly cut off and snail went silent.

Luffy looked down sadly as she place the shell back on the snail and whispered, "I've been patient for four months Law. I just want to see you. I miss you."

Luffy sadly walked over to her chest and open it. Searching around for a few moments she pulled out Law's old hoody. She pressed it to her face and closed her eyes. If she focused hard enough she could almost smell the mixed scent of coffee and mint that had long since faded from the fabric. Looking down sadly Luffy slipped off her clothes and pulled the hoodie over her head. Luffy crawled on to the bed and under a few of the furs. As she curled up under the furs Luffy remembered the last time she saw Law causing a dust of pink to cover her cheeks as it had every night since then. Burying herself in the furs Luffy fell asleep with a sad hopeful smile on her face remembering the words she whispered that night that felt so long ago. As she slept Luffy dreamed of her crew sailing across the sea toward One Piece with the Polar Tang and Law right next to them.
