Chapter 25

Gaby gasped as she shot up from an unfamiliar bed. The blonde looked around trying to see if she could recognize the place. "Gabriella," a voice greeted her. The blonde looked at the women. She was about her height maybe a couple of inches shorter with short brown hair and a natural tan.

"Where am I? What am I doing here?" Gaby asked her.

"We don't want to hurt you. You're not a werewolf and we go by the code."

"What do hunters want with me?"

"You'll find out soon enough. Now, why don't you clean yourself up and join me for some breakfast."

"Look I don't know what you want from me, but I can't give you anything. Just let me go back and I won't say anything. I swear."

"I can't do that Gabriella. The bathroom is there, clean up and join me for breakfast. That's not a request."

The blonde nodded and watched her walk out of the room. The first thing she did was look for her phone. She needed to call Derek. Normally she would just fight her way out, but these people think she's human, the last thing she wanted to do was reveal herself to a group of hunters. Gaby let out a groan when she couldn't find it. Sighting she walked into the bathroom and quickly took a shower. Gaby threw her blonde hair into a messy bun and walked out of the room.

She walked passed five hunters who pushed her towards a room outside the kitchen. It was a lovely porch with a small table and a few chairs. There were several kinds of flowers lining the porch as well as a few cacti. "Gabriella, sit," the woman from earlier.

Gaby sat "You have me at a disadvantage…you know who I am, but I don't know you."

"Araya Calavera, as you probably guessed, this family is a group of hunters."

"Yeah I gathered that much. What do a group of hunters want with a human girl?"

"You're not just any human girl are you?"

Gaby took a sip of her coffee "So you want me to trick Derek into coming here? I'll never lead him into a trap."

"No not that."

Her heart started beating faster "He's already here isn't he? You want me to get him to talk."

"That's exactly what I want."

"I want to see him. How am I supposed to believe you otherwise?"

Araya stood up "Follow me."

The blonde quickly followed the older woman. Gaby bit her lip as a jolt of pain shot through her body. They were torturing Derek. After a minute it passed and she just prayed no one saw anything and put two and two together. "Maybe we cut one of you in half, the other talks?" a man said as the two women got closer.

"I would love to be there for volunteer," Peter said. Gaby rolled her eyes she should have known he was involved. "But we really don't know what you're talking about. And honestly, isn't bisecting people with a broad sword a little medieval?"

The hunter chuckled "Broad sword? We're not savages." Her eyes widened as a chainsaw motor started up. "We all wonder how far your little healing trick goes." Araya pulled her into the room. Gaby watched as the hunter walked up to Derek with a chainsaw "What do you think? Can you grow back an arm?" He held the chainsaw up to Derek's neck "We're pretty sure you can't grow back your head."

"BOYS!" Araya called out causing the hunter to stop. Two more hunters appeared at Gaby's side while Araya moved into the two werewolves' view. She spoke Spanish, but the blonde ignored her. Gaby took a deep breath to calm herself down. Before she opened her eyes Gaby felt a familiar stare on her. She opened her eyes and looked straight into the eyes of her mate. "Bring her in," Araya ordered as the two hunters pushed Gaby into the room. "Now I thought I told you not to hurt Derek while his beautiful mate is our guest."

"So tranquilize all of your guests?" Gaby asked her.

"We tranquilize the guests that have been training with both werewolves and hunters. We knew you wouldn't come quietly."

"No hablo espanol," Derek sighed never taking his eyes off of Gaby.

Araya laughed "Tu hablas muchos idiomas, Derek Hale. You know exactly what I'm saying. And you know who we want." She nodded to a couple of hunters and they sat Gaby in a chair before creating a circle of mountain ash around her. Gaby rolled her eyes and looked at Araya nearing Derek with a knife. "Where is the She-Wolf?"

"We don't know any She-Wolf."

"I know you won't talk, Lobito. This one will talk," She said pointing towards Peter. "This one loves the sound of his own voice."

"You should hear me sing," Peter responded.

"We want to hear you scream," A hunter behind Gaby laughed.

"No one ever wants to hear me sing."

Derek and Gaby both shook their heads and rolled their eyes. "What could we do to persuade you?" Araya asked him. She dragged the knife down his face causing his claws to come out and struggle against his restraints. "Where is the She-Wolf?" When Peter didn't answer Araya smirked and cut off his right ring finger. Gaby flinched and shut her eyes as Peter screamed in agony. "Think about it. I'm only going to ask you nine more times."

She dropped the finger right outside the mountain ash circle. "We don't know what you're talking about," Derek told her growling.

"I wouldn't growl at anyone Derek." She snapped her fingers. Gaby let out a gasp while a hunter pulled her hair back and placed a knife on her neck. At this Derek snarled and pulled against his restraints. The blonde's heart started beating wildly knowing that if they cut her they'll see her heal and discover she's not a human. "Human mates are delicate things aren't they? They're thrown into the werewolf life yet they can't defend themselves like you all can. I guess that's why it's considered a curse." The knife moved away from her neck and Gaby let out the breath she was holding.

"This just got extremely complicated," Gaby whispered so only the two werewolves could hear.

"How the hell did they capture you?" Peter asked before dropping his voice keeping the conversation between the werewolves "You're terrible Alpha."

"Hey! They drugged me with some kind of tranquilizer."

"You're losing your touch."

"I haven't slept well my senses are a little dulled."

"Why haven't you slept well?" Derek asked her.

Gaby shot him a look "Do you seriously have to ask that?"

The three stopped talking as footsteps walked towards the room. Gaby looked at her hands and waited for the hunter to come near her. She looked at him as the hunter set a water bottle down in the mountain ash circle before walking out of the room. Gaby looked at Derek who shot her a questioning look. She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head.

Stiles walked into his history class the next day and quickly caught Allison up on the events of the previous night. Scott and Stiles had discovered that Malia was actually a were-coyote and was responsible for the car accident that killed her mother and sister. He showed a map to Allison "Here's where we found the den. It's right in the middle of the hiking trails."

"Well that could narrow it down," Allison told him and Scott "coyotes travel in fixed trails. But I think you're right about her not going back to the den. Coyotes don't like wolves. And they're really smart. If they don't want to be heard, they actually walk on their toes."

"Coyotes tip-toe?"

"They tip-toe." The bell rang before anything else could be said between the three of them. "I gotta go, but send me the pinned location."

"Okay." Scott and Stiles looked around the room for their friend. "You haven't heard from Gaby today have you?" Stiles asked Scott.

Scott shook his head "I was okay with it last night, but now I'm starting to get concerned."

"Have you called her?"

"Yeah no response. I have a bad feeling about this, her car was still at her house."

"Do you think Derek's back and picked her up?"

Scott shrugged "I'm not sure. It's possible, but why wouldn't she answer us or at least text us to let us know she's fine?"

"I'm going to go call her."

Scott nodded and started walking towards his seat. Kira stood in front of him "Hi, I'm Kira. You knew that. I knew you knew that. I don't know why I just told you that again. Anyway, I have something for you."

"For me?" Scott asked as she opened her backpack.

"Yeah. About the bardo. My explanation was sort of all over the place, so I did some research and I printed it out for you."

"You didn't have to do that."

"It only took a couple of hours."

"Wow. Then you really didn't have to do that."

"I swear I printed it out," Kira groaned.

"Kira," Mr. Yukimura's voice rang out "you forgot all the research you did for that boy you like."

Kira looked at her dad with wide eyes and took the papers from her dad's hands. Scott stood behind her with a surprised look on his face. When her dad walked away Kira slowly turned around to face Scott. He smiled at her as she handed him the research. Scott walked towards his seat while Mr. Yukimura began teaching "All right, everyone. Let's get started. We were just talking about internment camps and prisoners of war. There's a passage in our reading that I'd like to go over in more detail…who would like to come up and read aloud for us?" The teacher looked around the room and quickly noticed an empty seat "Has anyone seen Gabriella Myers?"

"Uh we can't get a hold of her," Stiles answered "She has a condition…"

Mr. Yukimura nodded "I was told. Thank you. Now Mr. Stilinski, how about you read the passage in the book."

"Oh uh, maybe someone else could."

"Everyone participates in my class, Mr. Stilinski."

"Okay," Stiles sighed. He stood up and walked to the podium at the front of the room. He focused on the page in front of him, but nothing was making sense. Letters began shifting around and his vision started getting blurry. Stiles gripped the podium in hops that it would allow him to concentrate. His heart started racing and he felt lightheaded as the letters seemed to melt off the page.

Scott looked up and stood up "Stiles? You okay?" Stiles gripped the podium when he nearly fell over. Scott quickly ran over to his friend "I should take him to the nurse's office." He led Stiles out of the room and into the boy's locker room. "Hey Stiles, look at me, man. Is this a panic attack?"

Stiles stumbled his way over to a sink "It's a dream, it's a dream," he panted. "This is just a dream."

"No it's not. This is real. You're here. You're here with me. Okay, what do you do? I mean, like, how do you know if you're awake or dreaming?"

"Fingers…you count your fingers. You have extra fingers in dreams."

Scott held up his hands "How many do I have? Hey! Look at me. Come on, Stiles. Look at my hands and count with me." Scott held up a finger and started counting them "One…"

"…Two."

"Keep going."

"Three. Four."

"Five."

"Six. Seven."

"Eight."

"Nine. Ten."

Scott nodded "Ten."

Stiles' breathing slowed down. He slid down the wall closest to him. Scott followed him to the ground. "What the hell is happening to me?" Stiles asked.

"We'll figure it out. You're going to be okay."

"Am I? Are you? Scott you can't transform. Allison's being haunted by her dead aunt. And I'm straight up losing my mind. We can't do this. We can't…We can't help Malia. We can't help anyone."

"We can try. We can always try."

Gaby sighed as she laid her head on her arms. Her feet were on the edge of the chair and her arms were resting on her knees. She could tell Derek was mad at her and Gaby couldn't face him. The blonde felt like a failure as an Alpha. Within the first two weeks of being the only Alpha in her pack she managed to get herself kidnapped by hunters.

"I don't want to make it sound like we don't appreciate your hospitality," Peter said breaking Gaby out of her thoughts "but do you think it would be possible to put that on ice? Maybe something for my hand, an extra-large Band-Aid? Perhaps some antibiotic ointment?"

Gaby shook her head and sighed at him. She looked up when footsteps were heard above their head. A few seconds later gunfire sounded through the house and the hunter sitting beside Gaby stood up and pointed the gun at the ceiling. He moved towards the blonde causing Gaby to look at his feet. The hunter broke the mountain ash circle. She waited until the hunter moved towards the door behind Gaby before moving towards Derek. As soon as the door started to break open she broke the restraints that held Derek to the fence. He nearly fell forward and Gaby steadied him before turning to watch the hunter fall to the ground. The girl who knocked the hunter out turned around to face them.

She started to walk towards the three werewolves. Gaby let out a warning growl allowing her eyes to glow red. She didn't know this girl and Gaby knew Derek was in no condition to fight. The unknown girl held up her hands "I'm not here to hurt anyone Gabriella, least of all Derek."

Gaby relaxed a bit but kept her stance in front of Derek "I'm sure you can understand why I have a hard time believing that."

"I get it. I was warned that you and Derek were incredibly protective of each other."

"You're the one who saved Isaac," Derek said.

"I'm the one who was hired to save Isaac."

"Someone hired you to get us out of here?" Peter asked her.

"Someone hired me to get Derek and Gabriella out of here. You, I'm totally fine leaving for dead."

Gaby snorted out a laugh "Second!"

"When did I get this reputation?" Peter asked.

"When you went on a killing spree that starting with your niece."

"You're never gonna let that go are you?"

"No."

"Should I let him down?" the girl asked.

Gaby sighed "Yeah I guess. What's your name?"

"Braeden."

"Thank you, Braeden."

She nodded and continued to unlock Peter. "Who hired you?" Derek asked stepping towards Gaby.

"Deucalion," Braeden answered.

"Deucalion? The guy who did that to you?" Peter asked her pointing towards the three scratches along the side of her face and neck.

"Girl's gotta eat." As soon as Peter was free he ran and picked up his finger. "Alright, let's get the hell out of here."

"We're not leaving without it," Derek told her.

"Without what?" both girls asked.

"Family heirloom."

Braeden sighed and followed Peter out of the room. Gaby turned around and nearly ran into Derek. The two looked at each other for a few seconds before Gaby sighed and started following Braeden and Peter. Before she got too far Derek grabbed her arm and turned her back around. She instantly threw her arms around his neck and Derek put his arms around her waist and picked her up off the ground. He put her down when she sniffled. Derek wiped away the tears rolling down her cheeks. "I missed you so much," Gaby sniffled.

"I missed you too," Derek whispered. "There wasn't a second that I wasn't thinking of you."

"I'm not gonna lie…when I was taking tests I wasn't thinking of you."

Derek chuckled "I guess I can forgive you for that." Gaby smiled and leaned up to kiss him. Derek was the first to break the kiss "I love you."

The blonde smiled even bigger "I love you too."

"Come on love birds!" Peter yelled.

Gaby rolled her eyes and grabbed her and Derek's phone. She saw that she missed multiple calls from Scott, Stiles, and her aunt. "I need to call my aunt really quick. I'll be up there in a second," Gaby sighed dialing her aunt's number.

Derek kissed her temple and walked upstairs. "Gabriella Renee Myers, where are you?" Lisa asked frantically.

"I'm gonna tell you something but please don't freak out because I'm fine. I was kidnapped by hunters that had no intentions on hurting me…or so they said."

"Gaby I know this is your life, but I can't deal with this. I've never been more terrified in my life when no one knew where you were."

"Aunt Lisa I never wanted this to happen, and I hate that I have to put you through this, but because of what I am…even if I wasn't a werewolf…I would still be hunted."

"I know you didn't choose this it's not your fault I'm just so worried about you. Look let's just discuss this tomorrow when I get back. I've got some news to tell you anyway."

"Okay and Lisa…I'm so sorry."

"It's alright Gaby. Love you niece."

"Love you too Aunt."

Gaby walked towards Derek, Peter, and Braeden. "Who are you texting?" Derek asked her.

"Scott and Stiles…I'm just letting them know I'm okay."

BREAK BREAK BREAK

Scott looked at his phone and looked at the text from Allison. He looked up as Deaton walked into the room "Xylazine," Deaton said "it's a tranquilizer for horses. For a werecoyote, expect to work within seconds. I only have three. So whoever's shooting needs to be a damn good shot."

"Allison's a perfect shot," Scott reassured him.

"Well," Isaac started "she used to be."

"She can do it."

"If we manage to find the thing."

"Okay what is the point of him?" Stiles asked pointing at Isaac. "Seriously, I mean, what is his purpose? Aside from the constant negativity and the scarf? What's up with the scarf anyway? It's sixty-five degrees out."

"Look maybe I'm asking a question no one here wants to ask. How do we turn a coyote back into a girl, when she hasn't been a girl for eight years?"

Scott sighed "I can do it."

"You can?" Stiles asked.

"You remember the night Peter trapped us in the school? In the gym, he was able to make me turn using just his voice. Deucalion did the same thing in the distillery."

Isaac nodded "Gaby's pulled me back before."

"This is a werecoyote," Deaton told them "who knows if it'll even work if you can find someone who can teach you."

"That's why you called Derek, first," Stiles guessed.

Scott sighed, "Yeah, I could try it on my own. But right now, I'm too scared to even change into just a werewolf."

"We need a real Alpha." Scott shot Stiles a look. "You know what I mean. An Alpha who can do Alpha things. You know an Alpha who can get it going. You know, get it…"

"Up?" Isaac suggested.

Stiles nodded. "Great," Scott sighed "I'm an Alpha with performance issues."

"Is there anyone else besides Derek who could help?" Deaton asked.

"One, but we don't know where she is."

Stiles sighed, "Where the hell is Gaby when you need her?"

Isaac scoffed "Gaby disappears when you need her the most, sounds about right."

Scott looked at him "Look I don't know what your beef is with Gaby, but you gotta get over it. She's been nothing but nice to you since that night."

Isaac looked down but didn't say anything. "Anyone besides Gaby?" Deaton asked.

"Maybe the twins?" Stiles suggested.

"They're not Alphas anymore. After what Jennifer did, almost killing them? It broke that part of them."

"Yeah but what if they know how to do it?"

"Nobody's seen them for weeks."

"Well actually, that's not totally true."

Scott looked down at his phone when a new text came in. "Gaby's okay," he sighed in relief.

"What?"

"She's fine she told me that she'll fill us in when she gets back."

BREAK BREAK BREAK

Gaby looked around the room wondering what Derek and Peter were looking for. Derek grabbed her hand and gently kissed it before pulling her into another room. He walked towards a wooden chest and moved to open it, but quickly pulled his hand away. "It's made from a Rowan tree," Peter scoffed.

"Mountain ash wood," Gaby nodded. Braeden kicked the lock breaking it causing all of the werewolves in the room to look at each other in surprise. "Can we keep you?" Gaby laughed.

Braeden snorted "Probably not." She opened the chest and everyone looked in.

"And that would be just mountain ash," Peter grumbled "Somebody really doesn't want our hands in there." All three werewolves looked at Braeden.

She sighed and stuck her hand in the ash. After a few seconds of digging around Braeden pulled out a wooden cylinder with the triskele carved into the top of it. "What is it?" Gaby asked.

Derek took the cylinder and sighed "I'll tell you later."

She nodded "So how are we getting back to Beacon Hills?"

"Well I drove down here myself," Peter told her.

"Thank god!"

"I'll take you back," Derek told her pulling her towards the backyard where the cars were.

The two didn't say much until they were on the road. Gaby looked at the cylinder in her hands "I'm guessing this is incredibly important?"

"Yeah, it has to do with my mom."

"Why did they have it?"

"I couldn't tell you. I just knew they had it and I needed it." After a few minutes of silence Derek sighed "You're not going to ask why I need it?"

"I'm not going to pressure you. If there's one thing I've learned since we started dating is that you'll tell me eventually, but on your own time. As long as you're not cheating on me and you're not in serious danger…I'm okay with you telling me when you're ready."

Derek grabbed one of her hands and brought it to his lips "And that…is one of the many reasons I love you."
