Things are really started to heat up in this chapter for Lenny , the end is drawing closer for our girl! Hope you all enjoy!
Sin for a Sin
The hustle and bustle at Teller-Morrow had been a welcome distraction for Lenny over the previous days, she welcomed any mundane chore that allowed her to stop thinking of her mother and kidnappers and thankfully the employees knew better than to ask. Wiping a spark plug down with a rag she caught sight of Gemma and Clay deep in conversation across the lot, they made no secret of the fact it was a conversation concerning Lenny as they neglected to avert their eyes. She had an inkling that Clay didn't want her traveling to Arizona, something about "Club Business", but as far as Lenny was concerned it was her business therefore she'd be along for the ride. Without or without Clay and Gemma Morrows blessing.
"Penny for 'em," Lenny's uncle's voice cut into her daydream, she put her tools down to lean against the open engine top facing her Uncle who she'd deliberately been avoiding.
"Not that interesting I'm afraid," Lenny lied with Sawyer like speed.
" Why you been distant Len? I need you right now sweet heart," her uncle's honesty broke her heart, she needed him too but she didn't know how to need someone the right way. Lenny was still struggling to adjust to accept the current situation and she had instantly become the hard faced teenage girl whose Daddy never came home, pushing people away so they didn't get the chance to leave her since opening that damn envelope.
"I know and I'm trying Bobby," Lenny sighed as she hugged her arms around herself, she knew her Uncle wasn't mad he just didn't want her getting messed up. " You pack all your stuff?"
They were leaving Charming tonight to cross into Arizona that evening and were hoping to be back within the week after getting some information from their brothers across state. Lenny had to admire Jax's tenacity in finding her Mom, he had literally been a rock for her the last few days although she knew she was beginning to test his patience and wondered just how long much longer he would put up with it.
" yeah, dropped by Tigs earlier he's got it all in the van. Gonna load up the bikes tonight, then head out from the clubhouse after dark. You don't have to come Lenny, we got it covered," Bobby had promised Jax he would make one last attempt to get Lenny to stay in Charming where he could guarantee her safety, both Sons knew once she was in Arizona she would be a moving target for who ever was orchestrating this whole nightmare.
"I know," Lenny began firmly, " but I'm coming anyway. If this was Gemma, then Jax would be doing the same as I am! So I guess I'll see you at the clubhouse tonight," placing a kiss on her Uncles cheek Lenny pushed away from the car to head into the dorms for a shower before their long drive tonight.
Jax dropped his cut on the bed that Lenny had obviously made when she came into the dorm , falling back into the mattress he locked his hands behind his head and sighed. Glancing in the direction of the bathroom he could hear the shower confirming Lenny was in there, he liked knowing she was near, hell if she allowed he'd track her with her cell phone just to know she was safe. Pulling his cigarettes out of his pocket he lit one up before tossing the packet on the night stand where they fell next to the necklace that started the latest whirlwind.
Gingerly picking the necklace up he let the gold chain fall through his fingers as held the St Christopher pendant between his forefinger and thumb and took in the etching of the man standing proudly with his staff on the pendant. Jax had been lying to Lenny about what he knew, he had known since their first trip to Arizona who was behind terrorising Jen and in turn just who was going to be extending that carnage into Lenny's path but he had no idea that they would go to these extremes. The guilt resting on his shoulders was nothing Jax wasn't used to but he couldn't ignore the knot in his stomach knowing he was lying to Lenny, even if he did think it was the right thing to do.
He stubbed out the cigarette as he put those feelings of guilt as far down as he could, as a leader Jax knew sometimes you had to do things you weren't comfortable with to protect the ones you loved. He checked the bag at the foot of the bed was full of Lenny's clothes for their trip and began adding a few shirts of his own when he heard the bathroom open and watched Lenny walk out wrapped only in a towel, with dripping wet hair falling down one shoulder. Jax could see the stress was catching up with her, she had been more inclined to drink than eat lately and he rarely saw her with out a cigarette dangling from her hand resulting in the thinner less curvaceous woman stood before. She was no less beautiful, she just looked troubled. Jax closed the distance between them and planted a kiss on her lips.
"Okay, darling?" Lenny nodded as Jax's hand held her own as his eyes roamed up and down, laughing she swatted at his hand pulling her self free.
"Dream on, Teller! You need to pack!" Lenny ordered as she turned away to throw one of his SAMCRO t shirts over her head and slipped into her jeans.
Jax watched his woman with a hunger in his eyes, he had missed their more intimate moments but he knew pleasing him was at the back of her mind right and he loved Lenny enough to respect that, " We're all set babe. Just waiting on Tig to get here with the van then we're off to get Gina back," he smiled half grin at Lenny as she sat down to dry her hair. She never said a word but just sat to dry her hair giving Jax chance to finish packing, she flicked on the hairdryer and concentrated on finishing getting ready whilst Jax moved about the room grabbing items here and there to pack. In the corner of his eye he saw Lenny's cell screen flash up with an incoming call, she obviously didn't hear it over the noise of the hairdryer so he grabbed it from the night stand and flicked it open.
"Help, please I'm sorry Len! Please forgive me, I need your help," the distressed caller sobbed as Jax squinted to hear someone in the background, he recognized the girls voice to be Jen which just confirmed what he knew. "Please Lenny, I don't want them to kill me too,"
"Times running out Sawyer," a male voice cut across the call before Jax heard the dial tone ending the conversation. Snapping the phone shut he threw it across the room in a fit of rage forcing Lenny to shut of the dryer.
"What the fuck Jax!" Twisting to stare at him with questioning eyes Lenny knew what had happened as soon she saw his face all contorted with anger. "What did they say?"
"They knew your name and they got Jen too," Jax rubbed at his beard, that part didn't fit what he had been told . Jen was meant to be involved in Gina's kidnapping but the broad sounded shit scared and she was too dumb to act that convincingly.
Lenny swallowed as she thought quickly about who it could be, "Eden," she said simply.
"What?" Jax looked up at Lenny intrigued, that could match what the boys in SAMTAZ had been saying.
"She's the only constant in this thing, I just know she's involved Jax. That evil little bitch," Lenny spat as Jax considered what Lenny was suggested. His girl may have hit on to something "What do you know?"
Jax's eyes snapped up to Lenny, she could tell he was with holding information, Jax should have known she would figure it out before they reached Arizona. Taking a deep breath he began to explain how his brother's in SAMTAZ had mentioned some guy called David Hayes," Jax could see Lenny's little eyes widen in realisation at where this was going.
"Dave worked for Nate? I thought they were just friends, hell I thought they barely knew each other," Lenny didn't get it.
"Lenny, Nate worked for David. He used Nate to push the drugs from another Club, the Lobos Sonora, they were supplying him with drugs to push to pay a debt with them. Turns out Hayes acted as a mole for the DEA and the Lobos were using him to continue dealing with out detection in Arizona. Nate was Hayes top income, without him he's not been making enough to keep the Lobos off his heels." Jax knew he didn't have to explain to Lenny that Hayes wanted revenge for Nate's murder, he could see her brain connecting all the dots as quickly as himself when she mentioned Edens name.
"And I bet Jen told him I had come here and little Eden came to play the part of informant," Lenny couldn't help but think had she never returned to Jax or Charming then her mother and Jen would be safe.
"That's likely," Jax mused, now Lenny knew every thing he could see a spark in her that had been missing. She had a hunger in her to get revenge over David and Eden.
"Then we should get moving, David and Eden are probably waiting," Lenny grabbed her gun from the bag on the floor and placed it in the waist band of her jeans as Jax grabbed the bag from the floor. The image of the two lovers leaving the dorm for their trip to Arizona was reminiscent of Bonny and Clyde.
