Recovery
There was a Chinese proverb that tells us that defeat teaches us life's most valuable lessons, and there's also an American proverb that tells us that there is no defeat except from within.
Despite succeeding in stopping Spinister, Danny and Duncan felt like they were the ones who were defeated.
Danny was rushed to the hospital thanks to the Box Ghost's quick thinking. Throughout the ride, Danny struggled to keep himself awake but he was lucky that Jazz and Sam were in the ambulance with him. Hearing his sister and girlfriend's voices was what kept him going even when he felt like his body was giving out.
Once he was in the hospital, Danny was rushed to the emergency room where the doctors did everything they could to keep the boy alive. Danny was lucky that his wounds were not as severe as they should have been. The doctors couldn't figure out how Danny survived being impaled but Danny knew that he wouldn't be alive if it weren't for Axe as the ghost scorpion used most of his ectoplasm to minimize the damage done to Danny's body from Spinister's attack.
The same could not be said for Danny's uncle.
Vince was rushed to the hospital in another ambulance and after seeing his right arm, he was rushed to an operating room to have his arm amputated due to the damage done to it. Jazz wanted to be there for her uncle but Vince told her to stay with Danny and assured her that he would be fine before being carted off for his amputation.
While the Fenton family recovered, Duncan was outside the hospital feeling horrible about everything that had just happened to the Fentons and how he was the source of it. Though he was not directly responsible, Duncan blamed himself for everything that Spinister did to them and to his former cast mates of Total Drama. He watched as Gwen and Chef were being taken into the hospital. His former girlfriend looked at Duncan with sad eyes before turning away from him as she was led into the hospital.
"This is all my fault," Duncan said to himself as he remained outside the hospital.
"Duncan!" called out a familiar voice.
Duncan turned around to see his mother exiting her car and heading towards him.
"Ma?" Duncan replied, a bit confused as to how she found him in the hospital when he didn't remember calling her.
Inside the operating room, Vince laid on the operating table with a doctor and a few nurses surrounding him. He was told that he would be sedated so that he wouldn't feel anything during the operation.
'Like I can feel anything right now,' Vince thought as he remembered what Spinister did to him back home.
"We are about to begin Mr. Fenton," the doctor told Vince.
"Alright doc," Vince replied as the nurse administered the sedative before the operation could begin. 'Goodbye right arm,' he thought as Vince began to lose consciousness.
While Vince was undergoing his surgery, Danny was resting on the hospital bed he was given with Jazz and Sam by his sides. He had a blood transfusion connected to his arm as he rested while Sam and Jazz tried to catch him up to speed.
"So after the two of you left the basement to help me, Duncan and Uncle Vince fought that spider ghost?" Danny asked Jazz.
"That's basically all that we knew up to that point," Jazz replied. "I asked Duncan for more information, but he felt so out of it after the whole ordeal," she explained to Danny. "I think he might be suffering from a minor breakdown because of what that ghost did to his cast mates and friends," she added.
"Poor guy," Sam said after listening to what Jazz had said. "It must be rough knowing that the people you knew and worked along with died because of some deranged ghost that hated them for what they did to him," she added.
"That kind of makes it sound like they deserved it," Danny commented.
"Danny!" Jazz started. "Nobody deserves to die like they did," she scolded her little brother.
"I know," Danny replied in a saddened tone. "But after everything they did to Duncan during that show, and since that was apparently the ghost of his pet spider, you honestly can't say you didn't expect any of that to happen?" he said to his sister. "I mean, most pets love their owners and kind of see them as family," he continued. "So maybe he saw all the harm that was done to Duncan and wanted to protect him by getting rid of what he saw as threats," he added.
"That does make sense," Sam agreed. "Dogs happen to be very protective of their owners and will attack anyone that they see as a threat," she pointed out.
"Yeah, but that wasn't a dog," Jazz argued. "That was a humanoid spider ghost," she pointed out. "How in the world does that work?" she asked.
"I don't know, but it's over now," Danny said as he laid his head on the pillow. "Man, I wish this place had a comfier pillow," he complained much to Jazz and Sam's amusement.
While the three teenagers relaxed, back in the operating room, Vince's amputation was going smoothly. There were moments where Vince's body twitched as a reaction to the doctor sawing off his severely injured right arm, but he was still sedated throughout the operation.
Once the operation was completed, Vince awoke about an hour later to find himself in a hospital room alone. On a personal level, Vince was glad that his nephew and niece were not in the same room as him because he didn't want them to freak out over how he just lost his right arm. As he slowly got used to moving his body, Vince looked to see his amputated right arm.
The doctor had cut off most of his forearm and had left just a little bit that went past the elbow. The sight of it disturbed Vince a bit as he averted his eyes from the stub of an arm. He also felt the sensation of an itch where his right palm used to be as well as the weight of his severed limb.
"Great," Vince muttered. "I've lost my arm for maybe an hour and I'm already feeling the phantom pain," he mused.
"I see you are awake," a male voice drew Vince's attention.
Vince looked up to see a Japanese man in his fifties entering his room.
"Yes I am doc," Vince said to the man.
"That's good," the doctor said. "I am Doctor Joji Yuki, and I was told of your amputation," he introduced himself. "I specialize in prosthetics," he told Vince.
As Vince and Doctor Yuki talked, back outside the hospital Duncan was recounting the events that took place to his mother. He even told her about how the ghost that caused all of the deaths was Spinister as the two of them remembered him as Scruffy.
"My God," Kristen whispered as she took in all of what Duncan told her. "I can't believe Scruffy would do such a thing," she said.
"But he did," Duncan told his mother. "And now Geoff and the others are dead," he continued as he looked down towards the floor. "It's all my fault," he muttered.
Kristen heard what Duncan said and grabbed a hold of her son by his shoulders.
"It's not your fault Duncan," Kristen told her son. "What happened this past couple of weeks was because of Scruffy, not you," she continued. "You didn't know that any of this was happening, so it wasn't your fault," she told him.
"Ma…" Duncan whispered as tried to fight back tears.
"Duncan," a new voice said, drawing Duncan's attention away from his mother.
The former Total Drama punk turned around to see Gwen standing before him.
"What do you want Gwen?" Duncan asked her in a neutral tone. "Come to tell me how this whole mess is my fault and that you never want to see me again?" he continued.
Gwen flinched a bit at what Duncan said to her.
"I…" Gwen started to say but she was cut off by Duncan.
"You know what, I don't want to hear it," Duncan told Gwen. "Ever since you got here, you've been treating me like crap and I haven't even done anything to you or the others, that was all Spinister," he told her. "But you blamed me anyway because that ghost was hunting and killing all of you because of how I was treated by the others in Total Drama," he continued. "Well, you know what, I already feel like shit about it because that ghost killed my best friend from that piece of shit show as well as your friends, but rather than blaming it all on that ghost, you've pinned the blame all on me just because of what happened between us back in All-Star," he continued.
"You were acting all crazy about Courtney!" Gwen retorted.
"Like you weren't?" Duncan countered. "You spent nearly a whole season trying to become BFFs with Courtney and you barely even noticed me, your own boyfriend," he added. "So maybe I tried to make you jealous by pretending to like Courtney again, but what did you expect?" he asked. "You were so hung up on Courtney, you treated me like I never existed and when you broke up with me and suddenly became friends with Courtney, the two of you insulted and made fun of me, even when I was trying to warn you both about Mike and his split personality," he continued. "But you ignored my warning and thought I was just trying to win you back," he pointed out. "I'm not like Trent or Cody, I didn't obsess over you like a lovesick puppy," he just continued on.
Gwen was stunned, she didn't expect Duncan to talk to her like that. She couldn't even think of anything to say to defend herself.
"The time I spent with you Gwen was probably the best two years of my life," Duncan told her. "And you threw it all away just for Courtney," he added. "Was it really worth it in the end?" he asked her.
"Why does everyone in this town keep asking me that?" Gwen asked. "Was it worth it? Was it worth it? Was it worth it?" She repeated. "I'm sick of hearing that!" she yelled as she looked at Duncan. "It wasn't worth it!" she continued yelling. "It was the biggest mistake of my life, I lost a great boyfriend, I lost any chance of being friends with Courtney because she was a backstabbing, conceited bitch who played me for a fool, I lost some great friends because of a killer ghost, and I even lost myself," she admitted as she started to cry.
Duncan and his mother watched as Gwen, Total Drama's resident tough Goth girl break down into tears. Duncan wanted to feel bad for her, but the pain that he experienced reminded him that he and Gwen were done and all that was left was bitterness.
"I don't know what to do anymore," Gwen whimpered as she looked at Duncan, hoping that he would at least comfort her like before.
"Here what you can do," Duncan said to Gwen in a cold tone. "When the doctors give you the all clear, get on the next plane out of my town," he told her as he walked past Gwen and headed towards the hospital to see how his friend and fellow Kamen Rider was doing.
Gwen stood where she in shock after she heard what Duncan told her. She didn't know what to think at that point as Duncan's mother followed after her son. However, Kristen stopped for a moment to look at Gwen. She felt bad for the girl, but she also knew that Gwen broke her son's heart and she couldn't stand seeing her son hurt like that.
"I think you should take Duncan's advice," Kristen said to Gwen.
Gwen turned around to look at Duncan's mother.
"He won't be there to protect you when that ghost comes back," Kristen told the Goth girl. "And he will be back," she added before heading off to catch up with her son.
A week later inside a secret lab, two men were standing behind a glass window observing a group of scientist surrounding a large malformed creature on an operating table. One of the men was Vlad Masters and the other man was Red Scar.
"So this is the creature your men and Miss Gray found in Amity Park?" Vlad asked Red Scar.
"Yes," Red Scar answered. "And soon we'll be able to unlock the mysteries of these creatures," he added.
"And from the knowledge we will gain, the weapons my company is making for you will be complete," Vlad said as he watched the scientists begin their operation.
"As well as the suits that my men will be using?" Red Scar inquired.
"Of course," Vlad replied. "Though my developers had gone through quite a bit of redesigns for the suit until finally they reached a final design," he added as he presented Red Scar with a diagram of the suits' design.
Red Scar looked at the diagram and noticed something about the suit design.
"It looks like that Kamen Rider in Amity Park," Red Scar pointed out.
"Yes, the developers felt that using Kamen Rider Phantom as the base for the suits would be an excellent choice as the design is simple and easy to produce in massive numbers," Vlad explained.
Red Scar looked at the diagram again and thought about the irony of his personal army looking just like the motorcycle riding superhero that won the hearts of Amity Park.
"Unfortunately, the suits won't be able to replicate all of his abilities since we are using the data from both Ms. Gray's suit and the experimental belt given to Mr. Nelson," Vlad pointed out.
"That is alright," Red Scar told Vlad. "That's what the weapons are for," he reminded Vlad.
"Indeed," Vlad agreed as the two men looked at the operation about to commence.
Down on the operating table, the ghostly abomination that was once Courtney of Total Drama slowly began to awaken. She had no clue as to where she was or what was happening around her. Once her vision started to clear, Courtney saw scientists surrounding her with various sharp objects in their hands.
"What's going on?" Courtney asked in a groggy, yet shrilled voice as she tried to move.
"The test subject has regain consciousness," one of the scientist said to his colleges.
"T-test subject?" Courtney stuttered as she tried to get off the operating table but found out that she was strapped onto the table. "I'm not a test subject, I'm a human being," she told them. "I have rights!" she yelled.
"Not anymore," another scientist told her as he moved closer to her with a circular saw in hand. "You're nothing but another lab specimen for us to cut up and see what makes you tick," he added.
"Be sure to avoid administering any sedatives," a female scientist said to the rest. "We need to see how this creature reacts to actual pain," she added with a hint of amusement in her voice.
Courtney couldn't believe what she was hearing, these people were going to cut her up while she was conscious and they were treating her like she was some sort of animal. She let out a shrilled cry for help but the scientist ignored her as they went to work on their vivisection as Vlad and Red Scar watched from behind the window.
Throughout the secret lab, the screams of a former human girl could be heard but nobody was concerned as they went about their business.
THE END
Author's note: Well that's the end of season one of Kamen Rider Phantom. Not much to say since it's the epilogue and it's was intended to be much shorter. To the fans of the Kamen Rider franchise, they will be able to see the obvious reference and figure out who Doctor Joji Yuki is.
I don't have season two planned out yet, but that's because I want to focus my attention on Gundam Build Fighters: Phantom's Flight since I only have three or four chapters to go on that one.
For the Total Drama fans who were hoping that Duncan and Gwen would hook back up, I'm sorry but that doesn't look like it will be happening, especially after what Duncan just said to her. It does come off as bashing I'll admit that, but honestly after everything that has happened, I can't see Duncan and Gwen getting back together in this story. Too much baggage and pain that both of them won't be able to focus on trying to patch things up between them.
As for Courtney's fate, she's still alive because the scientist want to keep her alive so they could see just how much pain she can take in her new body for the data and for their own sick and twisted amusement. So yeah, Courtney won't be getting any happy ending any time soon, or ever in this story.
