"So what happens next?" Sam asks, stretching his legs out under the conference table. Callen places his hand on the growing pile of NCIS and LAPD files on the table. He knows the information in the file back and forth, but he feels like something is missing.
"We know everything we can about the other assaults and Deeks gave me a little bit of information about what he remembers from the attack," Callen says, " I doubt he's in any condition to add anything even if we were to push him."
"Did you get anything from Jimmy before the boatshed went up?" Kensi asks Sam. She's sitting in a chair next to the doorway, keeping an eye on Deeks in the process.
"The usual nonsense, nothing related to the story Hetty just told us," Sam replies sadly. He's disappointed that in the midst of all of Jimmy's excessive rambling, he wasn't able to get anything remotely useful from Jimmy. "We need the names of the Marines killed and then look into everything from there. Hetty?"
"Ms. Jones, look up File case number 73840. Password- Micah," Hetty says with a heavy sigh. She doesn't have to even look to know that Nell shares a hesitant glance with Eric before opening up her laptop and pulling up the NCIS database. It takes her two minutes to pull up the file and enter the password- immediately after, a list of names pop up on the screen."
"It'll take us days to get background information on all of these men," Nell groans.
"Well, no one's running around torturing people right now so we have time, right?" Eric pipes up. He immediately regrets his words when he hears from Kensi, "We can't push our luck with that. If we get lazy and someone else is attacked, Deeks won't be able to handle that. None of us will."
"She's right. See if you can call up any of your tech friends from NCIS to help us," Callen tells them. He starts moving towards Hetty, who's standing right at the doorway of Deeks' hospital room. Although he doesn't hundred percent trust her right now, Hetty's distant, puppy dog stare is scaring him enough to push past that.
"The first thing he said to me after telling me his name was usted es pequeno," Hetty chuckles softly.
"You are small - sounds like Deeks was just as spirited as he is now," Callen states. Hetty nods, thinking back to the casual look in Deeks' eyes as he said it. It causes a small smile slightly before she says, "He was…still is wonderful. "
"And always will be."
Hetty walks up to the Deeks' bed side, pulling out two folded up photos from her purse. She unfolds both of them and begins the speech that she's been building up to say for the past fifteen minutes, "
"Marty," It's a rarity in using his first name, "I know that we said that we'd give you space and we will do such, but I believe that you need to at least know a little more about your biological parents. Your father, before he murdered every man in that platoon, was an intelligent, cunning Special Agent at this office. Your mother, Lianne, was a schoolteacher- beautiful, smart, and charming- just like you."
Callen leans against the door frame and listens to Hetty talk. Kensi, also listening, is still sitting in a chair against the door opposite side of the frame from Callen. Back in the room, Hetty places a picture of a tall man with blue, a small brunette woman, and smiley, blonde haired boy.
"You're the same man that you've always been. You grew up happy," Hetty continues as she places the photo against a water cup on the bed side table. She unfolds the second picture- an image of Isabelle Brandell holding a young 8 year old Deeks. "When you were with your biological parents and when you lived with Isabelle, excluding the abuse coming from Gordon John Brandell. The only difference between knowing this news and before is that the first four years of your life is different."
"Hetty, the name," Callen calls out.
"Oh, yes. You were born under a different name- Micah Ryan Bentley. Your birthday is the same, dear. You were born somewhere diff-"
"Guys!" Sam exclaims as he suddenly bursts into the room. He doesn't wait for anything from the others, "I need you in the conference room ASAP."
"Ok, we're coming," Kensi replies carefully. She watches as Callen moves out in the conference room and Hetty place the second picture on the bedside table before leaving as well. "I'm sure it's nothing."
Deeks responds by reaching out and grabbing both pictures off of the table. He pulls them close to his chest, but doesn't look or say anything to Kensi. The brunette agent considers Deeks at least moving to be a win and darts into the conference room. She finds Nell and Eric frantically setting up the larger of their two laptops in the middle of the table and Sam looking as if all hell just broke loose…again.
"Jimmy's dead," Sam states, much calmer than earlier.
"Dead? As in we arrested him less than a day ago dead?" Kensi exclaims. Callen's too busy trying to calculate scenarios of Jimmy's death to saying anything.
"I had Michelle call into LAPD for a check in on him and apparently he was popped twice in the chest…by a cop," Sam explains. He pauses to see confusion explode on everyone's faces.
"Sam, I got security footage coming up on the laptop now," Nell calls out. She turns the laptop towards the rest of the team to see a dark haired cop walk into the cell, spend less than two minutes talking with Jimmy before firing two shots into Jimmy's chest. The team watches in disbelief as the cop walks out of the jail cell, into a hallway, and off camera.
"What did LAPD say- how the hell did they explain that? Is he a vigilante or one of them?" Callen growls.
"There's no break to this, is there?" Eric comments. He freezes once more when everyone in the room looks up to him. He expects someone to snap at him for his comment.
"These guys are essentially terrorists who are ridiculously well planned ahead," Kensi says softly. "They probably had Jimmy with us as a set-up of some sort and when it went wrong with Sam surviving, they have no more use for him. So they've probably known where Deeks has been the entire time, but haven't made a move….it's like they're trying to burn all of us out."
"Deeks- they want to burn out Deeks," Callen states. He turns his attention back to the hospital room where they can see Deeks. "They want him to give up and in the end either hand himself over to them or kill himself. Alright, here's what going to happen- everything on this floor is going into lockdown. No one comes in or out of anywhere, which means no hospital personnel, cops or even our own. "
"We operate under the assumption that whoever shot Jimmy is one of the assailants," Sam exclaims.
Callen starts clearing off the table of the file. "No information moves between us and anyone outside this team- Nell, Eric- don't call anyone to help you with those names. This comes down to the shootout in Spain and NCIS so whoever's leading this could have inside men in both LAPD and NCIS. We'll all suit up and prepare in case they try to bring the fight here."
"No one in or out," Hetty repeats with a slow nod. As the others agree around the room, Callen sneaks a shared look with Kensi. She's just as scared as he is in knowing that if left to his demons, Deeks might actually give his assailants what they want.
