Mia
The weekend passed too fast for Mia's liking. She asked to be left alone with only Gideon staying with her. She wanted to be alone with him and her family granted her request. When Christian found out she was cleared to travel, he set everything in motion. They left Monday afternoon, arriving in Seattle that night. The goodbye she shared with Gideon was emotional to say the least. He drove Mia to the airport after her casts were cut off and her brace was in place. She walked with a limp and a walker but the doctor assured her she wouldn't need the walker forever, just until her leg was stronger. The doctor sent instructions with Grace that she was to continue her therapy as soon as she home. Christian had already hired the best therapist in Seattle and had her checked out by Taylor.
Christian had decided that Sawyer was to stay with Mia and helped her when she needed help. She protested but it didn't help any. She was home and had a babysitter. Everyone resumed their lives but Mia. She felt like a prisoner in her own home. They only highlight of her day was the phone and skype conversations she had with Gideon. Those always brought the tears and the smiles. They would talk for hours and late into the night. It had only been three days since she had seen Gideon but it was killing her already.
Now it was the day before Thanksgiving and Gideon was on a business trip and wouldn't be back until Monday. She was hoping that he would come for the holiday but his trip couldn't be avoided. She hated thinking that he would be all alone on the holiday while the Grey house was going to be bursting with people. Besides her parents, her brothers and Ana, there was also her grandparents Trevelyan, her uncle and his family. She hadn't seen her uncle and his family in years but since her accident they have calling to check in on her.
Therapy was going well. She was walking better but she noticed she walked with a slight limp. She had seen a doctor her mother recommended and he looked over her records and the way her leg was broken in the accident and the way she landed on the pavement caused the limp but only tine would tell if it would actually be permanent but the doctor seemed to think so. She had graduated from the walker to a cane and hopefully she wouldn't need the cane much longer.
Thanksgiving dawned cloudy and grey, just like her mood. She woke up, showered, and dressed. She went downstairs with her dad's help and went to the kitchen to help prepare the dinner. Everyone was already there and off doing various things. Grace told her she wouldn't be helping with dinner this year because of her accident and was told to go to the family room after she set the table. After Elliott and Christian put the extra leaf in the enormous table sat fourteen and another extra leaf could be added. Christian had the table commissioned for their mother as a gift since she loved to host family dinner throughout the year. After the table was set, she was told to go into the family room with everyone else. Her grandmother eyes lit up when she saw Mia.
"Here honey let me help you."
Mia smiled and accepted her help. Once she was settled on the love seat, her grandmother went back to her seat.
"How are you doing dear?"
"I'm good. Therapy still tires me out but I can walk for longer periods of time without hurting."
"That's good dear. You'll be back to your old self in no time" she said. "Have you heard from that young man your mother was telling me about?"
Mia blushed. "Not today. He had to go on a business trip so he's been too busy to call me."
"He isn't going to be with his family on Thanksgiving."
"No."
"That's just sad."
The men in her family came to join and Elliott changed the TV to a football game. Elliott sat next to her and out his arm around her shoulder.
"Mom banished you from the kitchen?"
"Yes. I don't know why. I can help do something. I'm not an invalid."
"Mia, we see how tired you after your therapy and all the walking you've been doing. We worry bout you and just want you to take it easy today."
"You don't have to worry about me. I'm doing better plus I feel better."
"Just humor us. It wasn't that long ago that you were in a coma. It's going to take some time."
Mia laid her head on Elliott's shoulder, trying to blink back the tears that threatened to fall. She hated thinking how much her family suffered when she was in a coma at deaths door. She didn't realize how bad her situations was until she asked her parents to tell what went on. Through the tears they told her what had happened, what the doctors had told them, the bleeding she in her uterus, and the fact that she had died. She had cried along with them and when her brothers showed up, after a call from their father, she broke down. They spent an hour just consoling each other.
Mia was on her way back from the bathroom when her mother announced dinner was ready, everyone stood up to go into the dinner room when the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it." Carrick said.
Mia could hear voices and wondered who was at the door. She heard the door close and saw her dad walk back into the room with…no it couldn't be.
"Gideon." She whispered. "Gideon."
She let go of her cane and walked as fast as she could toward him. The smile on his face was priceless as he walk to her. When she was within arm's reach, he reached for her and lifted her into his arms.
"Mia." He said hugging her. "God I've missed you."
"I've missed you too, so much."
They looked into each other's eyes before Gideon lowered his mouth hers. The kiss was gentle, soft, and just what she needed. She pulled back and he lowered her.
"What are you doing here?"
"Your mom invited me to dinner before you left on Sunday. She said I was more than welcome anytime I wanted to come and she knew that we would need each other soon."
Mia turned to look at her mom and smiled at her. It was the first smile anyone had seen from Mia since she returned home. She mouthed "thank you" and Grace just smiled.
"What about your business trip?"
"I did what I need to do and arrived in Seattle in yesterday."
"Why didn't you come yesterday?"
"I wanted to surprise you."
"You did and I'm so glad you're here. Let me introduce to the people you don't know." Mia said. "These are my grandparents Trevelyan, my Uncle Richard, Aunt Maggie, Cousins Rachel, Brad, Mitchell. This is Gideon Cross."
Everyone shook his hand and welcomed him. Elliott approached Gideon next.
"Gideon." He shaking hands with him.
"Elliott. How are you?"
"Good."
Mia watched as Gideon looked towards Christian and Ana. Like always Ana broke the silence.
"Gideon, it's nice to see you again and welcome. It's nice you could be with Mia, isn't it Christian?"
Christian looked at Ana like she had lost her mind but one look at Grace's face and he cleared his throat.
"Glad you could make it, Cross."
"Gideon, it so go to see you. Welcome to the Trevelyan-Grey Thanksgiving dinner." Grave said.
"Thank you for inviting me."
"Let's go into the dining room shall we."
Grace let everyone proceed to the dining room before they moved. Gideon and Mia hung back. When everyone was out of sight, he pulled her into his arms. Her hands went around his waist and he dipped his head towards her and kissed her again. This kiss was different. This kiss held the passion they had for each other. They drew away from each other when the need for air became too great. He pressed his forehead to hers.
"God Mia, I've missed you. You don't know how much."
"I think I do." She whispered. "Let's talk later. Let's go eat before Christian comes looking for me."
They walked in holding hands and took the last two seats that happened to be across from Christian and Ana. Carrick stood up and clear his throat silencing everyone.
"Before we eat this delicious meal that sits before us I would like to take a minute to say something. As you all know, this Thanksgiving has a special meaning to us. A month ago we didn't know what the future held for Mia. We didn't know if she would recover from her injuries. But we were blessed with a miracle and Mia did recover and is on the mend. Our lives wouldn't have been the same without you and we are eternally gratefully that we never have do that. We love you. Now Elliott will you say grace."
Everyone wiped their eyes and joined hands as Elliott spoke. Gideon grip on her hand tightened and she looked up and smiled at him. Carrick carved the turkey and the dished were passed around. The conversation was light and lively. Elliott being the jokester he was had everyone laughing. After dinner, Grace told Mia to take Gideon on a tour of the property before it got colder. The put their jackets on and headed for the patio doors. They held hands as they walked.
"How are you doing in therapy?"
"I'm not going to lie, its hard work."
"I'm sure it is. You look so tired by the time I talk to you at night."
"I am. It's very draining."
"I thought you would be gaining weight now that you are home."
"I haven't been eating that well."
Gideon stopped and looked at her. "Why not?"
"I wasn't hungry."
"Mia you promised that you would."
"I know but …"
"But what?"
"I missed you and I didn't want to eat."
"Mia." He said. "I know you missed me. I could tell when I talked to you but you need to eat to have the strength for the therapy. Not to mention the weight you lost when you were in the hospital."
"Can we change the subject?" he stared down at her. "How long can you stay?"
"Until Monday but I can stay longer if I need to. I can run my company from anywhere. Can I ask you a question?"
"Shoot."
"Will you come stay with me tonight at the hotel?"
"I would love to."
They walked back toward the house and when they entered they heard shouting coming from the family room. With Gideon's hand in hers they went to find out what was going on and where shocked when the saw who was there.
"I know it was you. Admit it? There is no one else who wants to see my family destroyed but you."
"I don't know what you are talking about and I want you to leave." Christian said.
"I'm not leaving until you admit what you did!"
"What is it that I'm supposed to admit to?"
"Kavanagh Media has been bought out because all the investors my dad seemed to have, have mysteriously taken back their support. My dad was losing money and had to sell."
"Your family got what it deserved but as much I would like to take credit for that. You shouldn't have messed with my family."
"You destroyed my family because your sister couldn't keep her legs closed."
Gasped sounded all around and Grace went up to Kate and slapped her.
"Get out of my house and don't ever come back. I will call the police the next I see anywhere near my property." Grace said.
Kate turned to Mia and stalked to her. Gideon stepped in front of her blocking her from Kate's wrath.
"You think you can hide behind your family. You think you can play the damsel in distress and men will come running. Once they find out the real you, they run from you the fast as they can."
"That's enough." Roared Gideon. "I guess you don't know who I am. You think you should be afraid of Grey, you should be more afraid of me. Let me introduce myself, I'm Gideon Cross, the new owner of Kavanagh Media or I should I say Grey Media since I plan on gifting it to Mia. She can do what she likes with it."
Gasps could be heard through-out the room. Mia gripped Gideon's arm.
"Why would you do that? You don't even know us."
"I know Mia and I know what your brother did to her. Mia has never once been in damsel in distress. What your brother did was appalling. Mia doesn't have it in her to be vengeful but lucky for her I don't have a problem with it. You don't do that to a lady and especially one I've come to love. I suggest you leave her and her family alone. You and your brother brought this on yourselves. Oh and before you go, you should warn your brother that he won't be able to get a job anywhere in the U.S., my reach is vast and powerful. Like I said, Grey is the least of your worries."
"You haven't seen the last of me."
"Oh I'm sure we haven't but it does get old having to deal with you. It makes you look pathetic and desperate. Now leave."
Kate looked at Gideon before she turned and walked to the door. She glanced at Elliott and then walked out. After she slammed the door Mia stepped in front him.
"Did you really buy Kavanagh Media?"
"I did. I looked into their finances and found out the Daddy Kavanagh was in debt and was selling shares in his company. I had one of my companies buy them but it still didn't give me enough leverage. I persuaded some other stockholders to sell their shares and I had enough to take over the company."
"You didn't have to do that."
"I know but I couldn't just let him get away with what he did. I didn't have it in me to do nothing."
Mia looked at him turned and walked out of the room. He watched her go and took a step to go after her when a hand on his arm stopped him.
