An Unnatural Scent - Chapter 25

Jack looked around at his former team as the filed into the SGC meeting room he and General Landry were waiting for them in.

"Thor has located what is most likely Loki's last lab before his current imprisonment. Apparently it took him this long to locate because Loki hid it well. Thor will be coming to give us a lift."

"SG-1 is ready," Cam confirmed.

"I will also be coming," Jack informed them. "Buffy Summers will be coming as well with her own small team."

Sam shot a sharp glance at Jack. Civilians were not often allowed on missions and these concessions given to these mostly unknowns bothered her.

Of course, she was not aware of the intense negotiations done between the Council and the US Government. Jack was pretty sure he'd have nightmares about Charles Gunn someday. The Council hadn't even wanted much but, thanks to Gunn, they'd gotten more than their minimum desires, not that Jack knew that. They wanted a team to go with them to retrieve Xander, and they got that. If the SGC ever reached Apocalypse level the Council would be read into it so they could help save the world (again). The Council had, thanks to the research done by Willow and Dawn, realized there was some sort of alien project going on even if they didn't know about the Go'ald or the Stargate.

Jack and the other senior government officials involved also had to sing for Lorne. Meeting the green demon who lived on earth just for access to music was a bit unusual, but meeting friendly non-humans was nicer than a lot of the missions he'd been on in the past. One official hadn't passed the test. The quick memory erasure done by Willow had crept the heck out of Jack. He was pretty sure she looked pretty sick afterwards, which he hoped meant it wasn't something they normally did. What Lorne had seen would also later result in said corrupt official's connections to the Trust being revealed, but that's another story.

In the end the US government had ended up with a lot of Egyptian artifacts that the Council had collected over the many years of it's existence as well as copies of copies of rare books and documents that covered things like the uprising against Ra. Daniel, Jack was sure, would later be in danger of drowning in his own drool. It wouldn't surprise him if the Council had 10 times that amount of items in storage somewhere that they were holding back just in case they wanted something later.

Jack was shaken out of his thoughts as he caught Sam's eye. He half shrugged his shoulders in a familiar gesture as if to confirm that unusual though this was it wasn't really that bad.

"Buffy Summer's team consists of her, Dr. Erin Walker-"

"The geneticist?" Sam interrupted intrigued.

Jack gave a sharp nod with his affirmation.

"Do you know her?" Cam asked.

"I had gone to recruit her for the SGC. Genetics is her area of experience, but she's also brilliant in mathematics and other fields. She was doubtful about joining but said she's think about it, but the Trust decided to recruit her for themselves by force first."

"I don't remember reading a report on this," Cam said frowning. He'd tried to read as many of the SGC reports as possible, but sometimes he just skimmed them. This sounded interesting enough that he would have read the entire report.

"It's because the report was mostly a summary. Dr. Walker and her boyfriend took out the Trust team and no one would tell us what happened."

"No one?"

"The whole thing just put her off the military completely. All she did was turn in the Trust members who were crocheted into immobility. Apparently it's her boyfriends hobby. Maybe? He didn't say anything either when I retrieved the Trust members. She would, when talked into it, consult on issues for the government, but refuses to now. Federal and local. I think she assisted the FBI once since the incident, but that's mainly because she started working on a project with someone who does consult with the FBI, a team managed by his brother. In regards to the incident, all the Trust members would do before someone managed to break them out were mumble something about big dogs. Dr. Walker and her boyfriend don't have pets."

"Her fiance will also be coming," Jack interjected. "We'll be leaving tomorrow when Thor arrives. The ETA will be about 0900 hours. Buffy and her team are unaware of the Stargate and I'd like to keep it that way if possible."

Jack was unaware of the intense meetings between the Council members (and friends) on who would be coming this time. The concern on how space travel might affect supernatural abilities was a major one. Buffy wasn't that concerned about herself. She'd died twice and was still a slayer, she also didn't mind loosing her abilities, the thought didn't even phase her. Concern about Faith, who was technically THE slayer, having inherited it and not died, had ruled her out. Vampires were staying for obvious reasons. Willow, unsure of how her powers might or might not work in space or other planets, had sadly opted to stay. Andrew, who would have jumped at the chance, had been kept out of the know about aliens for everyone's sanity. The rest of the group didn't know Xander well enough to go.

Erin was fairly confident in her and Oz being able to keep their wolves under control, although Buffy would be carrying a tranc gun, just in case. Erin's research was going well and was going mostly to ask Thor questions to clarify some of the data she'd gotten comparing the DNA of Xander and Xander 2.0.

End Chapter 25

So I haven't been writing much lately… Sorry. ^_^;;; This is the start of a lot more posts from me. I'm actually writing these on paper to practice my calligraphy. I need a lot of practice to get better, but other than just practicing writing the alphabet and random words I decided I'd write my fanfics.
