Hello? Is anyone there? Well I suppose if you are reading this you are there and that is so awesome! I am so so so so so so so so x100000000 sorry for the wait on this chapter. You guys have been begging for like a month so without further ado, chapter 25...
"So, you aren't marrying Kris?" I stutter out.
"Of course not. I only want to marry you. How couldn't you have seen that?" he asks.
Just as I am about to respond the door behind me opens up. "America, we really do have to go to that meeting," James says, walking up behind me and wrapping his arm around my waist.
"Right," I reply, unable to take my eyes off of Maxon. There standing in front of me was the man I once loved, and may still love. He wasn't engaged, I still had a chance. The question was if I wanted it or not.
James takes my hand and turns to lead me down the hallway. Before I follow him I tug my ear and can see Maxon's face light up as he tugs his ear back.
The meeting was incredibly boring, but it felt great that my opinion actually mattered, I just didn't understand enough to actually form one. Afterwards James dragged me down the hall, all the while saying he had something important to take care of and that I should go socialize with the other women for awhile.
"But James I don't even like those girls," I whine, giving him my best pouty face.
"It's just for a little while. I promise. Besides I bet all of those girls are just dying to hear about all of your escapades with the sexiest prince alive," James says with a wink.
"There goes that ego again," I chuckle, as I lightly punch him in the arm.
"I can't help it if all the girls want me and all the guys want to be me," he replies jokingly.
"You know what? Those girls are looking better and better," I respond, opening the doors to the room.
"Wait, I almost forgot," James says.
"Forgot what?" I ask.
"This," he says, leaning in to place a soft kiss on my lips. With that he turns and walks back down the hall which we had just come.
I sigh and walk into the room where all of the Selection girls are waiting for me. I was like a baby seal being fed to the blood thirsty sharks. "Hi guys," waving at them, unable to contain the noticeable grimace that passes my face.
Kris and Celeste just sit in their seats and glare at me. Elise is the only one to actually come up and give me a hug. "Don't let them bother you. They're just jealous," she whispers in my ear, pulling back with a smile.
We back to the table together and I take a seat next to her. "So what's like being the unpolished soon to be princess yet?" Celeste asks with a sneer.
"I wouldn't know. How does it feel to be the sluttiest not soon to be princess yet?" I ask innocently.
Celeste fixes me with one of her withering glares and proceeds to storm out of the room, accidentally running into one of the maids carrying tea in the room, causing her to trip and fall. "You know America, that is not the behavior a future princess should be displaying," Kriss says, in her infamous condescending tone.
"And you would know all about being a future princess, now wouldn't you Kriss?" I ask, fixing her with a withering stare.
"I think I am going to see how Celeste is doing," Kriss says, standing to leave.
"That sounds like a fantastic idea Lady Kriss. Oh, before you leave Maxon and I had a rather interesting conversation today. I would love to discuss it with you later," I say, flashing her a fake sweet smile. Kriss' face turns as white as a sheet and she bolts towards the door.
"I don't even want to know what that was all about," Elise says, leaning back in her chair while shaking her head.
"That's probably for the best," I tell her with a wink. "So what's it been like at the palace since I have been gone."
"Horrible would be the easiest way to explain it. Maxon just walks around moping all the time while Kriss and Celeste parade around trying to get his attention. Maxon's father won't leave him alone about picking a wife, and I have just been sitting by myself in the library," Elise says.
"Wow, you guys make prison sound like a treat," I mutter.
"America dear, could you come here for a moment," I hear Queen Isabella call. I walk over to where her and Queen Amberly are sitting. When I sit down I notice that the table is covered with wedding magazines.
"What is all of this?" I ask, eyes widening out of fear.
"Well, we must start planning your wedding soon," Queen Isabella says, handing me a giant stack of magazines.
"Can't you just plan it for me," I groan.
"Of course not. Don't be silly dear. A girl's wedding is meant to be the most important day of her life," Queen Isabella replies, shaking her head at my request.
"Well not this girl," I mumble.
"Did you say something America?" she asks.
"I just said your right," I reply with a smile.
Luckily Amberly and Isabella get so wrapped up in wedding planning that they almost entirely forget that I am there and I can get by with a few grunts and mumbled yeses. After about an hour of this I feel myself to start to drift off out of pure boredom. I must have actually fallen asleep because I don't hear James enter. He walks up behind me and kisses the top of my head. I open my eyes slowly and look up at him. Both queens are so absorbed with the wedding they haven't noticed James yet either. I place a finger against my lips, warning him to be quiet. I slowly stand up and grab James' hand, attempting to get us out of the room unseen. Just as we are about to leave I hear a voice, "We will continue the planning another day Lady America," Queen Isabella calls after us.
"I swear that woman has eyes in the back of her head," James mutters, pulling me out of the room.
"So what were you so busy with?" I ask.
"Follow me and you'll find out," he says, leaving me behind in the hall.
I race after him and finally catch up to him when he stops at a set of doors. He opens the door to reveal a room filled with all kinds of beautiful musical instruments. In the corner sat a beautiful ebony grand piano that shined. I could tell that my mouth was hanging open, but I just couldn't find the ability to close it back up again.
"Do you like it?" James asks sheepishly
"Like it? I love it!" I exclaim, wrapping my arms around James' neck and kiss him on the lips.
"I'm glad. You enjoy it. I will be back later to get you for lunch," James says before leaving me with the room.
I immediately pick up the nearest violin and begin playing some of the songs that I had memorized from back home. I am so enthralled with the my music that I don't notice that I have an audience. "You play beautifully," Maxon says from the door frame.
I put the violin down and walk over to him, "What are you doing here?"
"I needed to see you," he says, brushing a strand of hair out of my face.
"Well here I am," I reply, staring into his eyes.
"Don't be like that America. You know I love you," he pleads.
"Do I know that?" I ask, swiping his had away from my face.
"You do, that's why you are so nervous to be alone in the same room as me," he replies, stepping closer to me.
"Maxon, we can't do this," I tell him, shaking my head.
"Yes we can," he says, gripping my face between his soft hands. He leans down and I can feel his breath tickling my neck. "We can do this," he says, placing a soft kiss on my neck. "And this," placing a kiss on my jaw. "And we can definitely do this" placing a final kiss on my lips. I feel myself melt into his arms as we become locked in a passionate embrace. All of the sudden a tiny voice in the back of my head whispers James and I break away from Maxon.
I bolt out of the room and take off towards my bedroom. When I reach it I slam the doors behind me. I can feel my heart racing. How was this possible? I thought I had moved on from Maxon. I was supposed to be in love with James. As soon as I am able to catch my breath I hear a knock at my door.
I go over to open, and am surprised to find that the person on the other side is Kriss. "You wanted to talk?" Kriss asks, walking into my room.
"Yeah, I did. Why did you tell me that Maxon proposed to you?" I ask, crossing my arms.
"Oh please, it was way to easy to convince you," she says, flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"What happened to you Kriss? The Kriss I once knew would have never thought of something like that let alone done it," I ask.
"It wasn't all my idea you know," she says, walking towards.
"Oh yeah, was Celeste in on it with you?" I ask, rolling my eyes.
"Oh no, think about it Lady America. Who else directly benefitted from my little lie," she teases, sauntering around my room.
"The king?" I guess.
"Nope. Try again," she says.
"I honestly don't know Kriss, just tell me," I beg.
She turns sharply towards me, "Why it was your knight in shining armor, Prince James."
No! Say it ain't so! Is Kriss telling the truth, or is just another of her lies? Once again I want to apologize for the wait on this chapter. I do however want to thank all of you guys that reviewed and begged me to write more because you guys were my true motivation. If you are still out there behind some kind of electronic screen reading this, I love you. You guys have stuck with me through all of my long waits, and not always great chapters. You guys are truly the best, and without you I honestly would have given up a long time ago. Love ya! 3
It would also be great if you guys could post how long you think I should keep this story going for and if you have any ideas for the story. By the way the poll for Maxon or James is still up on my profile if you want to vote.
