Chapter twenty-five! I'm sorry I've been skimming the edge with updates lately, but I promise I'll try to do better. Enjoy, and please review!
I wake up again, and my parents are sitting around me, as well as two strangers. A man and a woman. They are wearing police uniforms.
I breathe deeply, slowly, with my eyes still shut. They shouldn't be able to tell I'm awake unless they see my heart rate pick up. Unless they have something that reads my brain waves, which I doubt.
I go through the story like I wrote it. The men showed up at my house, I climbed out the window. I ran. They caught me. There was a sharp pain, and I remember nothing. Maybe all those fanfictions helped me after all.
I turn, twisting and grumbling. My breathing is still slow. They cease all movement. My mother whispers, Dear?
I turn toward her voice, mumbling, and slowly open my eyes. Her face comes into focus; her eyes are red and swollen, her hair a mess. She looks so scared.
Mama?
She sobs, rushes forward and wraps her arms around me. I hug back, and against my will tears leak out. I missed her, and Dad, so much. I was scared the SCP had hurt them.
My baby, my baby, she cries, rocking me back and forth, like I am a tiny child again. I feel safe again.
One of the officers coughs, and my mother lets me down. My father grabs my hand. The woman cop looks at me. Her eyes are cold.
We're going to need to ask you some questions.
I take a deep breath, and lie. Not too many details, so it won't be hard to remember. I keep my face straight, but not too much so, and tremble and tear up at the appropriate moments. When I'm finished, the officers look at each other, nod, and leave.
My parents stay for a long time, talking to me. The nurse comes in several times to give me more medication, and food. Eventually though, I see their eyes droop.
Shouldn't you guys get some rest?
My father looks at me, raising an eyebrow.
Do you seriously think, after you've been kidnapped, missing for two days, and in the hospital with multiple injuries, that we would leave you alone?
We're staying right here, my mother says. Her jaw is set, both of theirs, actually, and I know there no budging on it. They go to sleep in the hospital chairs.
Hours pass. I try to sleep, but I can't. I know there is a police guard, and I am as safe as I can be. But I don't feel it, not with these tubes and wires stuck in me, and knowing the SCP wants me. And now my parents are here. I don't want to think about what they might do to them.
I lay on my side, listening to my pulse, when I hear a soft thunk from outside the door, and a whisper of a curse. I flinch, and reflexively reach to where my flashlight would be, but it obviously isn't there. I feel my breathing pick up.
The door pushes open, and two dark figures enter the room. I whimper, and pull the sheets over my head, though I know it won't help me. They're pulled off me, and I open my mouth to scream when a hand goes over my mouth, covered in rough leather.
The Stranger brings a finger to the lips of her mask, and takes her hand away. The person standing next to her isn't you, and it isn't someone I recognize, either. She is small and skinny, and her mask is black closed eyes and a barely-there smile, painted over white paper. Loose dingy brown hair hangs over her shoulder. A bloody Rambo knife hangs from her hip.
The Stranger picks me up, and I cling to her. She bends to my ear, and whispers something that makes me go cold.
We have to go. Now.
