Chapter 25: The One Who Matters The Most?
Len narrowed his eyes. He couldn't believe what he was hearing coming from Zero's mouth, it pissed him off beyond anything, especially all that they had been through at the hands of these creatures, at the hands of vampires.
"Zero, look at me?" Hesitant, glassy lavender eyes, looked up. "Have you forgotten who it was who turned your world to hell?"
"Shizuka." Zero answered.
"Right, and don't you want revenge for having been treated like filth at the bottom of her feet?" Zero nodded. "Then why are you hesitating for? Kuran is our last chance in being able to kill that witch, but if you fall for his tricks then you will only be playing into his agenda, we can't let that happen Zero. We have too much at stack right now."
Zero remained silent, yet he knew what Len was saying was true. After months of research the answer to killing another pureblood was another pureblood, that or the use of a powerful hunter weapon, but Zero knew he didn't have access to one. So manipulating Kuran into killing Shizuka was the only way they could free Zero from his hell. Yet, somehow Zero felt that this wasn't right. Zero felt that there was an even darker force waiting on the sidelines, waiting and watching, eyes mismatched with a grin like the devil. Zero was afraid, so damned afraid of this person who haunted him in his dreams.
Who was it and why was he appearing more frequently, Zero just didn't know but every time he was near Kuran the need to feed and kill was getting remarkably stronger as if the said force was driving him. Zero couldn't tell anymore if it was natural instinct for the other's blood or the force itself. Maybe both were working against him? That was more likely than anything but at this rate, the direction Zero was heading was not for a good one, that much was certain.
After a few moments of complete silence between the two, Zero tightened his hold around Len when a wave of hunger jolted him from his thoughts. Zero had forgotten the primary reason he sought out Len in the first place, but now that reason was making itself known quite clearly now.
Zero braced himself for another wave of hunger, he could feel Len start to undo the first few bottoms of his uniform, clearly aware of Zero's distress.
"The time between your feedings is becoming shorter." Len pointed out as he brought Zero's face to his exposed neck. "That means we don't have much time left."
Len was right; Zero found himself losing to his hunger only two or three days after just feeding. His slip into insanity was drawing close, so very close.
It was getting hard to breath as Zero's expert tongue moisten the skin beneath his lips. He could feel Len's pulse beat with blood, it was enhancing that Zero's fangs ached to pierce into the soft skin and suck the blood beneath it. So without hesitating, he did just that.
Seconds felt like minutes yet Len held on. He was accustom to his feeding sessions with Zero. The time he spent with Zero in the states was much like his moments with Zero at Cross Academy, only difference was that they weren't planning their greatest plan like they were back then, they were now acting upon them. Planning to succeed and finally be at peace.
Len gave a half smile. It's been so long since he was at peace; the last time he felt that way was before a tragic fate had been sealed upon him. A time when he enjoyed the days spent in his little brother's company without a care in the world. Yet, that time had long since disappeared and now he was planning his revenge against the kind who damned him and ruined his perfect life.
Len flinched a little when Zero's fangs were pulled from his skin. That feeling was something Len was never able to get use to.
Zero wiped the corners of his mouth; it was during this that Zero realized that they weren't alone.
Some feet to the right of them was Kaname Kuran. He was standing beside one of the tall trees, eyes locked on the two like a hawk, expression unreadable, which was giving Zero an uneasy feeling. Zero always hated not being able to read people, especially if it was Kaname Kuran he couldn't read. It somehow became a necessity to always want to know what the other was thinking, as if what he thought meant everything to Zero. It was maddening, but Zero couldn't help but want to know everything about Kaname, things he wouldn't tell to anyone but someone close to him like Takuma for instance but closer, much closer.
Zero felt his heart quicken at the thought, which made him look away in disgust at himself for even thinking of such an idea. There was no way Zero was going to let that happen, yet the 'what if' still remained inside Zero's head.
Kaname walked quietly over to the two, expression still unreadable as he stopped in front of them. Before addressing Len, Kaname looked over to Zero who was not meeting his gaze for some unknown reason.
"Zero, you may skip the rest of tonight's classes and return to the dorms. I will be there shortly after I talk with Len-kun." Kaname made sure to emphasize the word 'after' in his sentence.
Zero looked from Kaname to Len.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. He can't hurt me." Len reassured, making sure he emphasized the word 'can't' in a mocking tone.
Zero nodded and left, his eyes not once meeting Kaname's.
After Zero was gone, Len directed his attention to Kaname who was eerily quiet. "So, what is this talk you wish to have with me?"
"What exactly is your relationship with Zero?"
Len for a moment was surprised by the question and the calm way it was asked, especially after the feeding session Kuran just witnessed.
"What is it to you?" Len asked after recovering from his moment of shock.
"I just find it odd how intimately you two have been acting recently, so I was wondering if something more private is between the two of you?"
Len raised his eyebrow in wonder. The pureblood was acting like a jealous lover; the scene was just too comical that Len couldn't surpass a chuckle. Was their plan really working this easily? Len would have figured the pureblood to at least put up a decent fight, but he guessed that Zero's influence was just too great of a force to pass up. Typical. Zero was just that damn alluring. He may have been the weaker twin when it came to being a hunter, but when it comes to being a vampire; Zero was undeniably stronger and wiser as if he was born that way. His influence was like catnip that enraptured purebloods at his grip. It's to bad that Zero was not aware of this power, but Len was and he was going to use it to his advantage.
"Is there something funny?" Kaname asked, clearly annoyed with the other.
Len fell silent and he turned to the other before speaking. "Sorry Kuran, I just find it odd as to why this would be useful to you? I mean, what is he to you?"
"I asked you first?"
"Does it matter who goes first?" Len questioned. "You already know my relationship with Zero is nothing more than just friendship? Yet, why must I keep justifying what it is so that your conscious can remain at ease? Aren't you going over the boundaries of temporary Master and Servant? What exactly is it that you want from him?"
'I will like for him to stay at my side, to never leave me again.' Kaname thought but the words were stuck in his throat.
Len sighed when his answer was met with silence. "You know Kuran, I would have liked to assume that you were different from the others. But your silence makes me think otherwise. If you're prepared to use Zero as a pawn then be prepared to be made one as well. If your not, then you know what must be done, don't you? But are you willing to give up everything; is what you need to ask yourself? The choice is completely yours?"
Len turned and left. There was only one thought floating in his mind as he made his way to the Sun dorms. 'Prove to me that Zero means more to you than just a servant. Don't disappoint me Kuran.'

"My, My…aren't you late?" Sara spoke to the figure that just entered the car.
"Forgive me, the train was delayed on account of snow on the tracks." The figure answered.
"You are forgiven for now, since you are a valuable piece to me." Sara turned to face the other fully before speaking again. "Now tell me first of your trip to Cross Academy? Were you able to recruit that friend of yours?"
The figure smiled and shook his head. "Unfortunately no, he seems determined to remain at Zero's side."
Sara pouted. "And here I thought that gaining him will bring me Zero."
"Don't worry, Zero will come to us eventually. Especially since Len doesn't have much time left anyways."
"Poor thing, I could have treated his 'sickness' easily, but I guess it's too late now." Sara said mockingly. "Now, what of your trip to the council?"
"That ended in failure. Asato couldn't be bought and he even dared to refuse you."
"These council men are sure getting bold." Sara smiled. "It's understandable since I doubt Asato-kun will give up such a valuable item."
"Heard of any word about Shizuka-sama?"
"No, her movements have been quiet for several weeks now."
"Her silence is making me quite uneasy."
"Easy now, she will reappear sooner or later to retrieve her precious pet. All we have to do is wait, everything will fall into place as it should and once it does, Zero and everything else will be mine." Sara's smile grew wicked. "I will become Queen no matter what and you will get the revenge you had long deserve, isn't that right Ichiru?"
The silver haired youth beside Sara smiled. "Of course, I wouldn't want anything else than to kill Shizuka and watch Zero suffer at the hands of another pureblood. Nothing can be better than that."
