WARNING: Actually, there are no spoilers in this. :)
Author's Note: This is for mb64, who request "Something pre-series, maybe the boys are left alone? Slightly fluffy maybe?" I wrote this with the idea that Sam is 14 and Dean is 18. I want to thank kjdw, ImpalaLove, flygirl33, mb64, judyann, A Guest, GuestJ, bookbook, and jojospn for their recent reviews and support. And thanks to every reader! :D

Sam walked down the hallway of the high school, his pace slower than usual. He just wasn't very eager to get outside the building.
He knew that when he walked through the double doors he'd see his brother waiting in the Impala, blasting rock music and slapping his hands against the steering wheel in time to the beat.
That was normal. It was what would come after that would be different...
Ever since Sam had turned fourteen earlier that year, his father had lightened up on his previously very strict rule about Sam being left alone. He seemed to view Sam as a more responsible person now. Therefore, before John Winchester had left for his hunt the previous night, he had granted Dean the permission to leave Sam on his own for this particular evening.
So tonight Sam was certain that Dean would use that permission to leave him alone and go to some kind of social event. It was Halloween, after all, and Sam knew that had to mean parties.
Now, it wasn't that Sam faulted Dean for wanting to get out and about. He knew his brother deserved time to hang out with people his own age, not just his geeky kid brother. They spent nearly all their time together anyway, so what was one night?
The thing was that Sam wasn't allowed to leave the motel on Halloween. He was instructed to stay locked up in their room.
This wasn't anything new either. It was just that, normally, Sam had Dean cooped up there with him. They would watch crappy scary movies together that they had rented from the local video shop, and would eat junk food that Dean had stock piled the night before. They would stay up far too late and then sleep much too late as well the following day. They would make the best of their motel imprisonment, and somehow they always had fun.
But not this year.
This year, Dean was finally allowed to leave his little brother for the allure of teenage girls in skimpy costumes. For groups of people his own age, and for a chance to belong with them, if only for the night.
This year, Sam was sure he would be on his own.
The younger Winchester sighed when he finally reached the double doors, steeling himself for the lonely night ahead. When he opened them at last, he was greeted by the familiar sight of Dean in the Impala. He could hear the AC/DC from where he stood, and Dean was even banging on the steering wheel as he had expected. Sam could tell his brother was full of enthusiasm for the events ahead.
He forced himself to look cheerful as he approached the car, determined not to let his sadness show.
Dean deserved to go out with friends, Sam reminded himself. He simply refused to spoil Halloween for his older brother who, of all people, Sam knew had earned the chance to have a break and a nice holiday.
Yet when he opened the passenger door he was surprised to find a big pile of grocery bags in the back seat.
There were large bags of colorfully wrapped candies, packages of popcorn, big bags of chips, boxes of licorice and bottles of soda. There was even a plastic bag full of VHS tapes from Blockbuster.
"Dean, what's all that for?" Sam asked, talking loudly over the music and gesturing to the back as he climbed into the vehicle.
His brother raised an eye brow as he turned down the music and replied, "They're for tonight. Don't you know what day it is?"
Sam gave him a blank look in response, confused as to why Dean would need VHS tapes and candy for the parties that were sure to already supply these items.
Dean misinterpreted the look as one of obliviousness regarding the holiday, and so he laughed.
"Wow. You get straight A's and you still don't know what day of the month it is…" Dean teased with a smile. "It's October 31st dude. Halloween? All Hallow's Eve? Any of this ringing a bell?" Dean was still smiling, and Sam was still a bit lost.
"I know what the date is Dean, I meant why'd you get all this stuff if you're going out?" Sam replied.
Now Dean looked confused.
"Going out? Where am I going out to?" Dean sounded serious.
"I dunno. Dad just said you could leave, so I figured…You know. Parties and girls and stuff." Sam said with a shrug, trying his best not to show how much the idea bothered him.
Dean laughed again. "And skip our traditional night of bad food and bad movies? No way Sammy." he joked.
And Sam was taken aback by the sudden realization that Dean, despite having been told by their father that he was allowed to leave Sam now on Halloween…Despite the fact that Dean had to have been invited to a ton of Halloween parties with loads of hot chicks…Well, Dean had still elected to spend the evening with his dorky younger sibling.
Sam stared at his brother for a moment, wanting to say just how grateful he was. To explain how much Dean's choice had meant to him.
But that wouldn't be in keeping with Winchester tradition, so instead he said, "Dude, I'm not a baby anymore. Can you please just call me by my actual name?" Sam was smiling as he complained though, and when Dean rolled his eyes dramatically in response, he was too.
"So anyway Samuel..." Dean emphasized Sam's full name and the younger boy couldn't help but laugh. "I got us Aliens, Hellraiser, Poltergeist, The Shining, and Evil Dead 2. And I even got you sugar free Coke, since you're becoming Mr. Health Conscious now or whatever. Which is stupid 'cause it's friggin' Halloween man..." Dean continued talking and Sam listened, feeling lighter than he had all day.
