Hey guys, fair warning there is swearing in here! And shout out to Udementium, we think we spelled your name right, sorry if its wrong, but you are awesome and well keep all of that in mind.
Chapter 25
Tris
Gabby's words ring in my ears, it can't be true. It just can't be. My parents are good people they obey the laws, pay taxes, and do community service for the city. Why would such a horrible thing happen to good people? But I know why, because life is unfair. Life is just a pain in the ass you know that. When something good is just going to happen it comes right back and bites you in the ass.
"Beatrice!" I come out of my train of thought and back to the real world. Tobias is shaking my shoulder, he says something to me but it doesn't register. Nothing is registering, I can't hear anything, I can't see anything, its all a big blur. I don't even remember how I got into this chair. When the fog in my mind finally lifts, its just Tobias and I in the kitchen sitting there. He has my hand and is tracing circles with his thumb. I am the first one to speak.
"Where did everyone go?" He looks up at me, his beautiful eyes trained on my face.
It takes him a few moments to answer me. "Your grandmother and Caleb left to her hotel room."
I snort. "Couldn't stand the thought of staying here without my parents." I say more harshly than I intended.
"No, Gabby says that your family was supposed to be out by tonight. She wants you to get your things and I'll drop you off at her hotel." I shake my head. I don't want to stay in a room with a bunch of grieving people, right now I just want to grieve myself. "If you want you can stay with me, if you don't want to stay with Gabby and Caleb." I nod, and we sit at the kitchen for a little while longer. I don't know how long its been, but it feels like hours later, Tobias grabs my bags and leads me out of the house.
We walk over to his, and find two cars parked on the driveway, one belongs to Marcus and the other belongs to Evelyn. Tobias stiffens and walks straight into the house. I can hear the two of them arguing in the kitchen, Tobias sighs. "Can you please go get Elsie and we'll go to the loft tonight." I nod and walk upstairs.
Tobias
This is depressing night, if you consider two very good people dying, and both my parents being back at the house of horrors. I have Tris go upstairs so her and Elsie can get out of the house safely.
I take a deep breath as I walk into the lions den. Marcus and Evelyn are arguing in the kitchen, there's wine and beer bottles everywhere. This can't be good. They stop as soon as they see me.
"Tobias." Evelyn says surprised, like I don't live here.
"Evelyn." I look towards Marcus whose eyes are focused on the counter. "Marcus."
"Tobias." He says. I walk towards the cupboard to get a glass. "Have you heard the news?"
"If that news is that Mr. and Mrs. Prior are dead, then yes I've heard it." I sigh and Marcus snaps his attention to me.
"The Priors are dead." I turn around and look him dead in the eye.
"Yes the Priors died in a car accident tonight. If you were home and paid attention to someone else other than yourself maybe you would know that they are dead." My voice catches at the end.
Evelyn clicks her tongue and mumbles something about a plan. Marcus shushes her. "Where is Elsie?" I don't answer her. "Tobias I want to know were my daughter is at."
"Wait you said daughter. You have a daughter?" Marcus asks. Again with the paying attention to other people.
"Why yes I have a daughter Marcus." She glares at me again. "Where is she Tobias?"
When did she decide to care, and want to play mom? "Well Evelyn I'll have you know that she is safe, and yes we have tried to contact you but you have never answered. So now Tris and I are playing mom and dad to my nine year-old sister." I look towards Marcus. "Elsie is your fucking daughter Marcus." He snaps his head towards Evelyn and then back to me. I start walking out of the room.
"Tobias Jonathon Eaton there is no use for that kind of language in this house." Marcus snaps. Really that's the first thing he freaks out about and not the fact he has a daughter?
"Jonathon? His middle name is Josiah, Marcus." Evelyn snaps, I stop mid-step and turn around.
"I changed it."
"Why would you change it?"
"Because after you left it reminded me of my shitty life with you. So I changed his name cause I couldn't stand it." He changed my name without my consent. What. The. Fuck.
"You changed my fucking middle name without my consent?" I walk up to Marcus, in the shiny tile floor I can practically see the steam coming out of my ears. "What the hell gives you that right? What did you do the damn thing? Wait never mind I don't give a fuck. My whole life you have been beating the shit out of me, telling me what to do, and if it wasn't up to your standards you fucking beat me. And now my fucking life is ruined because you fucked up my fucking life. God forbid if I'm lucky, I will not do the same monstrous things that you did to me, to my family. If I am fucking lucky to have one in the fucking future. " Marcus starts undoing his belt.
"Tobias you do not use that kind of language in my house, and while your under my roof I get to tell you what to do and punish you as I choose be-"
"Marcus go fuck yourself. You do not have to give a fuck about me or my life anymore. I'm leaving I am done with you and Evelyn. I'll have you know that your the worst fucking parents in the entire world." Marcus goes to whip me but I stop the belt with my hand. I grab it and look Marcus in the eye. "This is for your own good." I punch him in the nose, he doesn't go down right away so I punch him again and he falls to the ground. Satisfied, I walk out of the kitchen, but right before I leave I turn around and say. "I'll be out tomorrow. You both can go to hell." I storm out of the house.
The door shuts behind me and I look over to Tris's driveway, both her and Elsie are there safely. I sigh and walk over there. As soon as I open the car door the questions start. "Tobias what the hell happened?" I flex my hand which now hurts. "Tobias your hand."
I sigh and look through the rearview mirror, Elsie's asleep. "How much did you hear?"
"Not a lot, it was quiet when we got out of the house and then we got to the car there was a lot of shouting. It was so loud that the neighbors came out of their houses."
"Lets just say that I'm not living with Marcus anymore, I am permanently living in the loft now." She nods and rests her head on my arm. "Now lets get out of here there's just to many memories, that I rather not think about anymore."
"Agreed." I start the car and Tris eases off my arm and faces the window. She hasn't cried yet, most people would cry about the death of their parents. She is the strongest person I know, stronger than I ever was and ever will be. That one characteristic made me fall in love with her.
Sorry short chapter, and sorry about all the swearing. We may be going to hell now, because of all the swearing. Thanks for reading you guys are the best.
