Chapter 25

Naru sat quietly on the cushioned examination table. The lady Hokage had just taken a blood sample from her and now the busty woman was giving Mio a check up of his own. Naru watched as the child giggled happily to the woman above him, it was as if he had known her all his little life.

The Hokage redressed the child before she picked him up off of the tub shaped weighing scale and handed him back to his mother who had gotten down off of the table.

"Your results will be back within three days." Tsunade started. "I shall summon you then." Naru nodded and held her son close. "I noticed he seems a little run down. He may have a cold coming on." Naru's eyes widened with shock, "Don't worry, just keep him warm and make sure he feeds well. The warm milk will help him."

"Yes, of course." Naru replied as she looked down to her son. "I'll make sure he's looked after."

"Make sure to tell the Uchiha too. He should be able to help you." Naru just nodded. "Good. Look after him and come straight back if he gets worse."

"I understand Hokage-Sama." She nodded solemnly. "Thank you." She smiled and adjusted the child in her arms before leaving the examination room and heading straight home where she could relax and give Mio his next meal. This child had started to grumble and fidget in order to try and find his food source. It made her laugh at how her son was so much like her in many ways, yet at the same time he had a few similarities with his father. Being a first time mother, she noticed these things quite a lot, it made her happy.

Soon enough Naru arrived home and went straight to her bedroom. She sat on the bed and began to feed her hungry child.

Whilst feeding Mio, Naru began to contemplate what had happened in her life since she had come to Konoha. The flashes of memories had started to become more frequent. She had learnt that she was once called Naruto, but was she the one the village was looking for. If she was, it would explain why she remembered the faces of her friends, the Hokage and Sasuke. There was also the feeling of something inside her buried deep down, like another being that was a part of her.

"Kyuubi…" She frowned when the name just appeared in her mind. "Kurama…" She mumbled again. This time the name reverberated throughout her body, there was definitely something, no, someone missing and they shouldn't be.

Naru looked down when Mio had stopped feeding. She brought the child up to her shoulder and began to gently wind him. The little one felt warm against her bare shoulder. She sighed, it was almost summer and maybe Mio just wasn't used to the warm weather considering the child had spent the first few months of his life underground. The air had become slightly chilly come late afternoon and by evening it was a lot colder. She had made sure that Mio's crib was away from the window so that he wouldn't catch a chill, but it seemed that effort was futile.

Once Mio had been winded she rocked him to sleep in her arms before putting him to rest in his crib. Naru ran a hand through her braided hair and quietly left the room. She looked out the windows as she passed by, the sun was setting and people would be making their way home to join their families and loved ones. She made her way to the kitchen where she proceeded to get herself a drink.

"You're home." Came a low voice behind her. She turned around to face the person, a small smile on her face.

"Your son needed feeding. He's sleeping in his crib right now." Sasuke nodded and leant against the door jamb.

"So what did the Hokage say?" Sasuke asked as he watched the girl washout her glass.

"She said my blood results will be back within three days." She dried the glass and put it away. "She also thinks Mio might be coming down with something and that I…" She shook her head as if to dismiss the word from her head. "No, that We should keep an eye on him. She said he sounded really chesty and thinks he might have a cold forming in his chest."

The Uchiha sighed, he wasn't ill a lot, but when he was, he hated it. He could only feel sorry for his son. "I see. Well, as his parents, it's the right thing to do."

Naru chuckled a little at the Uchiha. He was still finding it a little weird that he was a father. She stopped laughing when she saw the scowl pointed her way. She smiled and walked over to the handsome man.

"Cheer up S'uke; you wouldn't want wrinkles on that forehead now, would you?" She grinned cheekily. "You're gunna look old before your time if you carry on."

Sasuke schooled his face immediately; he wasn't going to give her more ammunition.

"Why do you call me S'uke?" He asked in a curious voice.

"I don't know…" Naru tilted her head to the side. "I just think it's easier to say… and it just, feels right to call you it." She supplied. If she had to guess why that was so, she would put it down to something Naruto would do and say. To call people by nicknames instead of their proper names, which no one else seemed to use. "Don't you like it?" She asked cautiously.

"It's not that…" Sasuke started. "Naruto used to use that name for me…" He finished, his eyes glassed over a little.

"Sasuke…" Naruto frowned and stepped closer to the Uchiha. "I'm sure Naruto is on the way back to you just as fast as he can. I know he misses you too." She tried to console him as best as possible without giving too much away. She wanted solid evidence first before she told him who she most likely was and what she had remembered so far.

"I hope you're right Dobe." He smiled a very small smile as his eyes regained their normal lustre.

"I'm not a Dobe! Teme!" She stomped her foot and made fists at her side. The actions made the once avenger smirk jovially before he reached out and gently ruffled her bangs.

"That will do pig…" He bit back a laugh.

"Argh! Stupid Teme!" She yelled before launching herself at the taller boy. "Come here and say that again duck butt!" She continued as she tried to grapple with the boy in order to take him down. "I'll shove a kunai up your nose and shuriken up your ass!" She threatened.

Sasuke just stood there and caught her at the wrists as she tried to land a blow and struggle against him. He laughed at her a little which only speared her on. He watched as her blue eyes held determination, her lips opened enough to see her white pearly teeth clench together, and her sun-kissed skin turned rosy at her cheeks from either embarrassment or anger, he wasn't sure.

A fleeting need suddenly washed over him, a need to lean his head down and capture those inviting lips with his own in a kiss.

"S'uke?" His name was called as he brought himself out of his stupor. "W-What are you doing?" She asked him, her face slightly contorted with confusion, although the redness on her cheeks was still there. He then wondered why her face was so close to his. Sasuke blinked, why were their faces so close? Had he… Had he actually tried to kiss Morgan? He shook his head and pulled it back quickly, he then let the girls wrists go.

"Hn…" Was all he said before heading to his bedroom. He needed to clear his mind.

Naru stood and watched as the Uchiha's back vanished from view. She sighed softly whilst willing the blush from her cheeks to subside. Yes, she thought Sasuke was handsome and something deep inside her fluttered every time the Uchiha was around, but she knew… She knew she shouldn't have thoughts like that, right? She groaned, who was she kidding, she liked Sasuke, even though he was cold sometimes. The Uchiha was witty in his own way, and she knew he cared for Mio, however difficult he found it not to. The man had finally come to accept them into his home, even though he wasn't around much. In fact he had started to put together a travelling bag with clothes and supplies. She figured he was going to go look for Naruto again, but it might be all for nothing. For if she was Naruto he had found her and brought her home safe already, his search would have been for naught.

She bit her lip as another headache swept over her and images began to pool into her mind… A man that looked similar to Sasuke, Sai, he kept calling her 'dick-less' and seemed to think it was ok too!

Then another image… An older man that had white, knee-length hair and a wart on his face. She knew this man somehow. He was very dear to her, like a father or even a grandfather figure. The man smiled at her before waving a book about whilst sitting on the head of a huge toad, who was conveniently smoking a large pipe.

The memory merged into a different one yet again. This time there were large bars, they became part of a gate just as large. The closer she looked at the gate she noticed a paper seal, one that she felt she shouldn't touch.

"Naruto…" Came a sudden, gruff voice. Naru looked around before looking through the bars of the gate when something caught her attention. "It's nice to see you again brat." The voice somewhat laughed before it growled a little.

"W-Who a-are you?" The blonde blinked, worry etched on her face. This was a dream right?

"Oh come on brat. You know who I am." The creature smirked, sharp pointy teeth on show. "I've been with you your whole life, well, until that vile, sadistic Oro-"

"Orochimaru sealed you away from me…" Naru groaned and put a hand to her head. This wasn't a dream… "Kyuu…" Naru shook her head negatively. "No, Kurama…" The girl looked up to the giant nine-tailed beast, a small smile on her face.

"At your service." The fox smirked.

"Kurama…" Naru started. "What happened to you? Us? Me?" Naru watched as the fox's smirk disappeared into a frown and then followed by a scowl.

"That bastard Orochimaru had Kabuto put a sealing seal on you to stop us from conversing and you receiving chakra from me." The fox moved slightly in order to make himself a little more comfortable. "Since you were kidnapped and had the seal forced upon you I haven't been able to contact you or lend you my chakra."

"All this time, I felt as if something was missing." Naru looked the tailed beast over. "Kurama, you know who I am, don't you? You've seen everything I've ever seen right?" Kurama nodded and Naru felt relived. "Then Kurama, who am I?"

"You kit are Uzumaki Naruto. You are the son to the late Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato, and his late wife, Uzumaki Kushina. You are seventeen years old and the Hero of Konoha after the last ninja war. You kit are my vessel and dare I say, my friend." The fox summed up, he was sure she would remember everything soon, even her true feelings for the Uchiha.

Naru stared at Kurama. She was all that? Her memories did back up what he was saying. What reason would Kurama have to lie? It must be true, nobody knew her better than the nine tailed beast that had lived with her since she was born.

"Kurama? My memories, the ones that have returned I remember who I am and your words only help me to realise that they are honest and real memories. But I can't remember how I became like this… How I had Mio…"

At the admission Kurama sighed heavily. He rested his head down on his two front paws and beckoned his kit to come closer and sit with him. He made space on the side of his left paw for her to do so. Naru slipped in between the bars and sat on the beasts paw.

"I honestly don't know much. I was blocked off from you completely. All I can remember is your transformation jutsu and the injection Kabuto gave you. After that he placed a seal and that's all I know…" He looked to the young girl and felt sorry for her. She had been through a lot since day one and what had happened recently probably wasn't even the icing on the cake. "Naruto, you were poisoned and kidnapped from a hospital by Kabuto when you were on a mission with Hatake Kakashi. It's been just over a year since you were stolen away."

Naru just sat there and tried to take it all in. There was a lot to consider and think about. She felt as though she had no reason as to not trust Kurama, so trust him she will. It seemed like the better option anyway.

"Kura…" She started with a nickname. "If I haven't been able to speak to you for so long, then why are we speaking now?" She looked up to the orange-red animal.

"My guess is that the seal is weakening. You should go and see your Hokage about it. Maybe they can take it off fully?" He didn't know the ins and outs of the seal so he couldn't advise any more than that.

Naru nodded. It sounded like a plan. Maybe with the full release of the seal she'll get all her memories back and become Naruto once again. She needed to go see the Hokage as soon as possible, she needed to tell the woman what she had remembered and see if she could be helped in anyway. She needed to trust someone, and she was sure, even though she felt she could most likely trust the Uchiha, it was maybe for the best that she kept this away from him for now, just until she was sure.

"I'll go see Tsunade-Sama tomorrow and talk with her. Maybe then we can get to the bottom of this and find out what's happened" The fox nodded before smirking.

"You better go, you're Uchiha is talking to you…" Naru flushed and yelled out, her eyes closed in the process.

"He is not my Uchiha!" A laugh echoed in her mind as she opened her eyes to reveal a smirking Uchiha Sasuke. "Uhh…" She blinked.

"Who said I was your Uchiha?" The taller of the two teased. It wasn't like Sasuke to mess around in such a friendly manner. However, like Naruto, there was something about this girl that made him want to do exactly that.

"N-no one… I didn't say anything of the sort. You're hearing things." She huffed and folded her arms. "What are you doing just standing there anyway, creeping up on people? What are you, some kind of stalker?"

At this Sasuke laughed. This girl was crazy. He had left his room to use the bathroom and he caught her just standing there staring into space. He had called her name twice before making his way over to her and calling her again. He told her just that.

"Che, as if." She replied. Stupid duck-butt. She inwardly scowled. "Stop staring at me." She admonished.

"I want to know what had you so lost in your own mind?" He continued to smirk. "If there is a brain inside that head of yours." He bit back a laugh.

"Sasuke! You're so mean, Teme!" She yelled back, slightly affronted by his words.

"Keep it down Dobe. You'll wake the baby." He admonished, his smirk still in place, arms still folded.

"Don't tell me what to do where our son is concerned Sasu- "She was cut off with a loud cry.

"I told you so, Usuratonkachi." He sighed and shook his head as the girl in front of him frowned.

"That's not his… normal cry…" Her face contorted into worry. "He's in pain…" She pushed passed Sasuke and ran into her room as quick as she could. She opened the door and went straight up to her son's crib. "Hey baby, are you ok?" She asked as she picked the crying child up. She noticed that he had vomited a little. "What's wrong Mio-Love?" The child just cried. He was hurting and he didn't know why. He just wanted it to stop. "Sasuke!?" She called out in panic as she wiped the little ones chin with a nearby tissue. "Sasuke!"

The Uchiha came darting around the corner in a hurry. He panted as he looked about the room before seeing his child being held in his mother's arms, screaming his little lungs out.

"What's wrong with him?" He asked curiously as he entered the room. He was worried just as much as the blonde was.

"I-I don't know… M-Maybe he was sicklier than Tsunade-Sama had thought…" She looked to the Uchiha, her eyes glazed as she held back tears. "W-What do we do?" She asked the raven, she felt lost.

"It's ok." He assured her and walked over to the two. He raised a hand and put the back of it to Mio's forehead, it was hot. "He's burning up. Let's take him to Tsunade-Sama. I'm sure she'll be able to find out what is wrong with him…" Or so he hoped. He had just started to get to know his son; he didn't want anything to take that away. "Come on, get your shoes on and let's go." He ordered as he turned on his heels and headed straight for his own shoes at the front door.

Naru grabbed Mio's thick fleece blanket and followed after Sasuke. She handed the child over to his father while she put her own shoes on. She felt herself shaking from the unknown illness that ailed her child. She wanted him better as soon as possible!

"Morgan, get on my back, I'll jump the roofs and get us to the Hokage's tower faster." The blonde nodded and climbed up onto the Uchiha's back, with help from him of course, and held on tightly. "Let's go." He said before opening the door, making sure Mio was wrapped tightly in his blanket and safe in his arms before leaping up onto the roof of his home and darting across the town as quick as he could using the roofs of other houses. He needed his son to be safe and well.

They arrived moments later. Sasuke put Naru down on the floor before handing her the sickly child. He looked at the wooden door in front of him before banging at it, trying to get someone to open the door. It would seem as though they had all gone home for the night. However, this place being the Hokage tower, there should always be a guard or someone still around in case of emergencies.

After persistent yelling and knocking the door soon opened to reveal Shizune, the Hokage's assistant, herself. The dark haired woman frowned at the Uchiha.

"What in heaven's sake do you want at this hour?" She asked. She was tired and wanted to go to bed. There were only so many hours she could put up with her boss' antics and drinking. She needed her eight hours to make it through the next day!

"Shizune-San, my son is sick. We need Tsunade-San to have a look at him. Morgan said he's crying as if he's in a lot of pain." Sasuke nearly begged. Nearly! Uchiha's don't beg… Normally. But for his son, he would do anything. "Quickly."

Shizune gasped before nodding and turning to head on back into the building. "Come this way. Sasuke-Kun, take Morgan and the baby to the clinic, I shall get Tsunade-Sama right away!" The petite woman ran on ahead to do as she said.

"Follow me Morgan." Sasuke called before taking the girls hand in his and leading her swiftly towards the small private clinic that had been incorporated into the Hokage's building for personal use by the Hokage and emergencies. They had no time to waste. Once he had arrived he opened the door and entered a small waiting room. "This way." He mumbled before pulling her gently into a side room where Naru had only been earlier that day.

"Sasuke, I don't know what's wrong with him. He w-won't stop crying!" She had started to get franticly worried. This was the first time her child was ill and she abhorred the idea of not being able to do something about it herself and take the pain away from the suffering child.

"Tsunade-Sama will be here any time now. Just, keep comforting him and maybe he'll stop…" He was at a loss himself, there was a first time for everything and he had never been in this situation before. His poor son. He looked to his child's mother and saw that the girl was fighting back tears. He wished he could help her. For once, the great Uchiha Sasuke didn't know what to do. "He'll be ok…" He tried to console her by words, and when he noticed they weren't having the desired affect he gently, yet hesitantly, placed an arm around her shoulder and brought her into his side for comfort. If she wanted to cry she could, if she wanted to lean on him for support, emotionally and physically, she could. She was his child's mother after all, and someone he was starting to hold dear.

Over the past few weeks he had noticed his feelings towards this woman change ever so slightly. He didn't hold her in such disregard anymore. In fact, he had started to hope that something between them might develop for the better. He had started to like the way the girl looked, the way she smiled and teased him playfully. He even caught her going off into her own little world now and then, but the best part, what warmed his heart the most, was watching her feed his son. He had no idea that something so natural could be so, well, beautiful. Now Uchiha's aren't soppy by nature, but that was the only way he could describe the feeling he felt when he happed upon the young, beautiful mother and his handsome baby son. Maybe there might be hope for them… If the girl felt anything akin to what he was feeling at the moment in time. He was sure it wasn't love, but it was definitely a strong form of like.

"What the heck is going on here!?" Tsunade tiredly grouched from the door way as she barged into the room.

"Hokage-Sama." Sasuke started. "Mio is sick. We've brought him to you. He won't stop crying." He continued. "He's been sick and has a temperature."

Tsunade soon snapped out of her tired revere and got to work. She pushed up her sleeved and made examination table more comfortable for the tyke.

"Let me have him." She looked to Naru who handed the child over. "Let's have a look shall we." She placed the child down on the table and opened the blanket. "I can feel the heat radiating off of the poor thing." She mumbled towards the worried parents. She hovered her hands above the pained child and her hands started to glow a vibrant green as she tried to work out what was wrong with the child.

Naru leant into Sasuke as she watched the older woman examine her child. Her head rested on his shoulder, with a hand gripping his shirt, his arm remained around her own shoulders as he held the girl close. The both of them seeking support from each other.

"Morgan, has the child been going to the toilet regularly?"

"Yes… Well, except for the past three or four days… He's been clean more often than not…" Her anxiety portrayed heavily in her voice.

"Well, from what I can see, he has a lower UTI, and it's causing him a lot of discomfort."

"What is a UTI?" Naru asked slightly confused.

"It's a Urinary Tract Infection." The blonde woman looked back to the parents. "It's quite common in babies of his age, and older children, as well as adults. We're just lucky it's in the lower part of the tract. So it's a lot easier to treat with antibiotics. However, seen as though he is only a baby, and it can take up to two weeks to clear out from his system, it's better if I admit him to the paediatric ward. That part of the hospital is new and now up and running…"

She glared at Sasuke; she still hadn't forgiven him for destroying most of the old hospital in his rage. "At any rate, I shall give him some antibiotics and some painkillers to help ease the pain and to help him sleep." She reached over to a metal table where she had prepared some medicines just in case. She picked up the correct two syringes and made sure the dosage was right before gently and quickly inserting the needles it to the child's veins. She knew it would hurt him a little, but with the crying he was doing already, she might as well just get it over and done with. Once finished she put the syringes in the sharps disposable box and re-wrapped the child. "Here, the medicine should kick in soon. Just comfort him a little until he's ready to fall to sleep." She handed Mio back over to Naru.

"Thank you!" The young girl cried out before taking a hold of her beloved treasure and bringing him straight to her chest to hold closely. "What shall we do now?" She asked whilst looking between the Hokage and the Uchiha.

"Take him straight to the hospital. I shall make my way over once I've written a basic report. I shall do it as quickly as possible. Ino is on duty tonight, just inform her about what has happened and she shall see to you."

The parents nodded before once again thanking Tsunade and making their way to the hospital in record time. They informed Ino about what had been going on and she immediately took action and procured the small family a private room and a cot bed for Mio. They sat next to each other on the pull out futon as they waited for Tsunade to arrive. Mio had calmed down slightly and his cries were now whimpers and choked sobs. Naru rocked him and hushed him with a soft, affectionate tone of voice. It was all she could think to do.

Sasuke watched the mother and son. He felt relieved to know that the condition was easily treatable and not life threatening. Mio would be better in a week or so, and wouldn't be in too much pain thanks to the medication. Now they just had to wait. He had planned to go searching for Naruto the day after next, but with his only son in such a condition, he would postpone it for the time being. Naruto would understand, he was sure he would. For now, he would be there for Morgan and Mio. Just as any father should rightfully be.
