"Did the two of you really not learn anything from the last time?" Klaus strolled into Damon and Elena's hotel. Very reminiscent of the last time her interrupted one of their tryst.
"Seriously? What is that you want this time?" Unlike the last time, Elena did not run into the bathroom in pure embarrassment. This time she sat in the bed covering herself and looking rather annoyed.
"Hey, get out of here, Klaus." Damon demanded throwing a pillow at the man.
Klaus ignored Damon in favor of addressing Elena. "Oh this time, she asks. Well dear sweet Elena," Klaus' voice was laced with fake humor. "I am here to tell you that this affair of yours is ending. Say your goodbyes because this is the last time that the two of you interact as anything more than brother and sister-in-law."
"Hey you're not gonna come in here and dictate how we live our lives." Damon was not a man who was used to being pushed around. He pushed other people.
"Oh of course I am; especially now that you are engaged to my sister. You extracurricular activities end." Klaus stood in front of the couple with his arms folded across his chest. He may have wronged Rebekah and he may not have been the best big brother, but he could protect her from a miserable marriage.
"Seriously, this is about my marriage to Rebekah? Klaus, you know how these marriages work. Fidelity is not part of the package. I will do my best to provide for Rebekah, and be discrete to not humiliate at her, but I am not going to live my life pretending that I married her out of love."
Klaus actually winced at Damon's words. He couldn't deny their truth. He had to wonder how many affairs his own father had over the years. "This time the marriage will. Who knows Damon you may even grow to love her."
"Why are we even listening to this? It's not like he could stop us." The idea of someone else having Damon did not sit well with Elena. There was a little know fact about her, and that was she didn't like to share her toys.
"Oh but I can. See, I take my very pretty photos and videos and I show them to dear old Stefan. Do you know what happens then? Dear old Stefan divorces sweet little Elena. Everyone finds out Elena's true nature and she is shunned by all of those she use to rule over. Then here comes the really fun part. Giuseppe then disowns Damon and cuts him off completely, leaving him broke and powerless; his worst fear. Then there is little Rebekah all brokenhearted and sad. My father, furious at Damon's deception, demands that Giuseppe somehow makes amends. Well, would you look at that Stefan is unattached again. Let's be honest he is the better choice of the two brothers. He is quickly, and quietly married off to Rebekah. All the while the two of you are left broken and alone. Such a sad tale, don't you think?" Klaus wore a mask of false sympathy. Unfortunately all of what Klaus said was very, very true. If the deception of Elena and Damon were to come to light it would destroy both of their lives. Damon and Elena sat and listened to Klaus with horror written on their faces. He had them, and they both knew it.
"By the look on your faces I take it we understand each other." Both Damon and Elena nodded their consent. Klaus didn't need to say anymore and he made to leave the room.
"Hey," Elena called out to Klaus' retreating form, "I love them both you know."
Klaus sighed bracing his hand on the door frame. Why was Elena making this a lot more drawn out and complicated then it needs to be. "No you don't. Do you want to know why? It's because woman like you loves to be loved and you rarely know how to return the sentiment. Your type are all the same. You parade around believing in the facade of goodness and purity that you have concocted for yourself - believing that you are somehow morally superior to the rest of us. In reality, you're the worst of us. You're the worst of us because at least the rest of us lowly peasants admit to our faults, own them, and then try to fix them."
Elena seethed at Klaus' little speech. How dare he judge her? She wasn't the one who had blood on her hands. "Caroline would have to be the biggest fool to love someone as undeserving of love as you" Elena spat.
"And Stefan would have to be biggest loser to ever forgive a whore like you." Alright so he may have lost his temper on that last part, but he didn't take too kindly to those who offended Caroline.
'You know we don't have to do as he says and end things." Elena sat on the bend wrapped in the blankets with her knees to her chest and her arms loosely hanging over them.
Damon walked around the room finding his clothes and dress quickly and quietly. "What are you talking about Elena? It's over or did you not hear him? Klaus will destroy our lives." Unlike Elena, Damon knew Klaus, and he was a man of his word.
"Stefan will forgive me, and in time I can get him to forgive you." Elena was overestimating her own worth, and severely underestimating his father.
Damon laughed at Elena's bravado. "My father would never allow it. He would force Stefan to divorce you. My father doesn't share the same affection for me as he does for my brother. The idea that I ruined my brother's perfect little wife would send him through the roof. No, Klaus was right."
"Okay. This is all about your engagement to Rebekah. All we have to do is get rid of her." Elena spoke as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Stop!" Damon screamed at the women who use to be his lover causing her to jump. Taking a deep breath and recomposing himself he continued. "Please just stop. Do you hear yourself? Get rid of her?"
"Well not kill her obviously." Elena was a little put off by Damon's attitude.
"Elena it's over; it should have been over before we even started. You're my brother's wife for Christ's sake. Don't make this worse then it has to be." Damon pleaded as he sat next to her on the bed.
"Funny how that didn't seem to bother you before." Elena snapped as she folded her harms across her chest and turned her face away from Damon.
"But it should have. We need to leave one at a time." With that Damon kissed her head and left the room.
Elena was left to seethed on her own, and her only thought was Rebekah and how much she hated the woman she barely knew.
Klaus had one more person to see, and this one had him on edge. Liz Forbes was a formidable woman in her own right. But the most terrifying part to Klaus was that she was the mother of the woman that he loved. She could quite possibly be his mother-in-law in the very near future, and that made him shudder.
Liz sat in her favorite booth at her favorite restaurant sipping on a cup of tea. She was both shocked and thrilled when her assistant called to inform her that there was a possible new donor for her abused women charity. They could always use more money so she quickly set up a lunch at their earliest convenience. Her eyes, however, nearly popped out of her head when she saw that her lunch date was none other then Niklaus Mikealson.
"I had to use deception or else you wouldn't have agreed to see me." Klaus defended his actions.
"Yes, and what does that tell you? Thank you for wasting my time, and now ruling my lunch." Liz stood up to leave but Klaus voice stopped.
"I do plan on writing a very large check to your charity. So what do you say you have lunch with me and if you don't like what I have to say about Caroline at least you walk away with a very large sum to help those poor abused women. Please?" It was Klaus' eyes that made her change her mind.
"Alright. A quick lunch." Liz quickly amended.
"I understand that you have some reservations about Caroline and I, and while they are justified and I completely understand them, I would really like to explain my affections for your daughter."
"Alright. You say you love her, but ever since you came into her life she HAS been hurt. You can see why your words and actions are not working."
"Agreed, but it was never my intention to hurt Caroline." Klaus knew that it would futile to argue with Liz. If he wanted to get her on his side he would try a different approach.
"But she was hurt. Tell me, Niklaus, how do you explain that?"
"Some petty jealous twhat who simply didn't know her place. A lesson she will learn soon, I promise you. Might I remind you that I am not the one who brought Hayley into Caroline's life. That was your precious Tyler." Klaus huffed. Tyler and Hayley were sore subjects for Klaus. He loathed Tyler for how he treated Caroline, and he simply hated Hayley.
"Yes Tyler." Liz dismissed the name with a wave of her hand. "I was not a fan of his, and look how well that turned out." Liz leaned over the table and folded her hands. "How can I be certain you are not just another Tyler in disguise? He, too, declared his undying love for Caroline, and look how well that turned out."
"Tyler was nothing more then a little boy pretending to be a man. I honor my promise, and commitments. I don't take marriage lightly, and I consider it an honor to be married to your daughter. If that isn't enough for you then how about this. Less then an hour ago I put a stop to the affair that Elena an Damon were having." He knew that both Liz and Caroline knew about the affair. Caroline because she was Elena's best friend, and Liz because of Caroline.
"Hmmm we shall see about that. You have to admit that a marriage to Caroline does come with it's own set of advantages. For example she is set to inherit everything which means you will eventually inherit everything." Liz was well aware of her husbands line of work, and the rules that governed that life style. They never had a son which meant that Caroline need to be married if she hoped to receive everything.
"As am I. My father has named me as his heir. What's mine will be hers. I can provided a good life where she is both loved and cherished." Cherished that was the first time that Liz every heard someone refer to Caroline like that when it wasn't scripted. "All I ask is that you not stand in my way."
Liz seemed to consider Klaus' words before rendering a decision. "If you hurt her," Liz began to only be cut off by Klaus.
'Never again. I would rather hurt myself." Klaus raised his hands in front of him.
"Yes, well. Tell me what you're plans are for little Miss Hayley Jenkins." Klaus was beginning to like Liz more and more. He smirked, because the plans he had for Hayley were a work of art.
