Chapter Twenty-Three
Family
It was eye opening being part of Fairy Tail.
Over the year that she had joined the Guild after the war, Nyssa had come to know the people that Eve had betrayed Alvarez for. After the war, people didn't trust her enough but Erza Scarlet had argued for her saying that they fought side by side against Irene Belserion…thought Nyssa would hardly call what had happened with Irene was a fight.
After seeing what the Scarlet Despair could truly do against Acnologia, Nyssa had come to realize that the woman had simply being playing with them during the battle, not even taking them seriously at all.
But ever since Eve's return from the hospital and the party that had followed, Nyssa had been accepted as part of the guild. She had gone on Jobs with some of the people in the guild and they warmed up quickly to her during that time and Nyssa came to know the people that her leader had betrayed them for. She had come to know how much they care for each other, how they stand side by side with each other through everything and she found herself thinking of her childhood and of her sister.
She had rarely thought of them during her time in the Alvarez Army and how they had turned their back against her when she had learned magic. Her parents had wanted to make a puppet out of her and she had fought against it when she learned how weak she really was. She had joined the Army and after the war…she felt without purpose.
Staying in Fairy Tail won't give her the purpose she had while she had the Army. It didn't give her a target.
But it gave her so much more.
It gave her a family.
Nyssa had forgotten how it felt to be part of one. As a member of an Army, they were camaraderie between the soldiers but there wasn't the warmth she felt in her heart whenever she was in Fairy Tail…They didn't have the bonds that they shared with each other…
Under the Emperor, there was only order and that order should be followed.
But here with Fairy Tail, it made her realize just how alone that existence felt like. When Eve, how as she was gone back when she was in Alvarez, Venum had become one of the Shields, Nyssa saw something more within the girl and how she treated her and her and she had loved Venum…
But she already had a lover.
Nyssa remember all to well how Eve and the redhead Erza kissed in front of the entire guild and the adoration that was within those silver eyes when they look at the other girl. This was the same Erza Eve loved so deeply…the name she had whispered when they shared a kiss together back then…
And it had hurt to see the person she loved with someone else…it had hurt so deeply…
But Nyssa knew Eve would never be able to return her feelings…but that didn't take the sting away from her heart.
She let out a small sigh, staring out at the horizon in front of her.
These past few months, she had been thinking about her sister more and more. While she had been nothing but a child when she last saw her, Nyssa found herself wishing to see her again. She didn't know where the need to see the woman came from but, it had been plaguing her mind more and more and she knew that she would have to come to a decision.
She had been waiting for a while now, the girl looking out toward the seas once more. It had become a habit for her to come here listening to the sound of the waves. It was quite calming to experience.
"Nyssa."
She turned her gaze and Eve was walking toward her.
She took in the woman in front of her.
When they were in Alvarez, Eve had always put up a wall between them as if to distance herself from all of them. Back then, she had never thought much of it as most of the Shields were like that in a way. However, the Eve in front of her was a far cry from the sullen almost broody woman she had known. There was a glow upon the woman that was breathtaking and it made Nyssa remember why she had fallen in love with her in the first place.
"You came," she said when she found her voice again.
Eve nodded at her, silver eyes glinting in the light of the sun.
"I am quite curious about what you wanted to talk about to be honest," the blue haired woman answered taking a seat beside her on the sand.
Nyssa chuckled softly turning her gaze toward the sea once more. The two sat in companionable silence for a few minutes.
"This place is quite relaxing," Eve said after a while, "I can see why you like to come here so often."
"Sensed for my magic did you?" Nyssa asked.
"Once or twice," Eve admitted, a sheepish tone in her voice.
Nyssa let out a breath.
"I'm leaving Fairy Tail," she announced.
She heard the woman beside her gasp lightly at that. She saw how round Eve's eyes gotten as they stared at her. The shock and disbelief was visible upon her features.
"What?" she asked, "Did someone say something? Did something happen…I swear if anyone did…"
Nyssa laughed, placing a hand upon her agitated friend's shoulder.
"No…," she said, shaking her head, "It's nothing like that at all. Everyone back at the guild has been nothing more than welcoming to me. It's for that reason that I am leaving…I want to be able to find my sister."
Eve seems to have calmed down at her explanation thought, some confusion appeared upon her face.
"Your sister?" she repeated, "You mentioned you had one before…"
Nyssa nodded.
"I was nothing but a child when she left our parent's home," she said, "She broke free from the chains my parents had tried to place her in and when she did, they pretended like she never existed. When I did the same, my parents broke ties with me as well and I never resented them for it…however being in Fairy Tail, it showed me that while my parents loved me… we were never a family."
She thought back to her parents at how they were molding her to be a lady…everything that had happened since then.
"A true family would never turned her back upon their daughter," she said, "they would have tried everything to change to be…better than they were. You taught me that Eve…"
"I did?" she said surprised.
Nyssa smiled lightly.
"You did…when you walked into enemy territory and sacrificed your life for these people," she said, "During my time here, I came to understand why. These people, despite not related by blood were your family. They loved you fiercely and I can see that you love them just as much…some more than others."
Eve blushed lightly at the thought of Erza and it caused a light ache within Nyssa's heart. She turned her gaze toward the ocean in front of them.
"I thought…maybe me and my sister could be like that," she said.
Eve seems to think for a moment, "Do you even know where she is."
"Not a clue."
The blue haired woman faltered.
"And you still want to find her?"
Nyssa nodded. Eve let out a sigh before letting out a chuckle.
"You're never one without a plan," she said.
"I know…it's strange to be impulsive," Nyssa laughed.
Eve looked at her, and there was this sadness in her gaze.
"Hey I won't be gone forever," Nyssa told her, wanting to put her mind at ease.
"But you'll still be gone for a long time," Eve answered her softly.
"But I know where you find you," Nyssa told her.
Eve nodded, thought she was still sad.
"I don't want you to leave but…, it's not my decision to keep you here," she said, "When are you planning to leave exactly?"
"In a week," she said.
Eve nodded.
There was nothing else to be said as the two sat side by side, their gaze toward the seas.
It was finally time.
Nyssa had packed most of her things and with her traveling cloak upon her body the young woman had left the home she had making her way. She had no idea as to where to go to find her sister but there was one person she had in mind that could point her in the right direction…
"NYSSA SYEL,"
She jumped in surprise at the sudden voice yelling her name. Turning around, she found Eve standing there with her wings behind her. She must have flown there, Nyssa realized as the girl observed her. There was a seriousness upon the young woman's features as those silver eyes stared at her.
"Eve?" she asked, surprised.
"As the one who brought you into Fairy Tail," Eve started, "I should be the one to give you the farewell you deserve. However, they are three laws you must abide by now that you're leaving."
Nyssa turned toward her fully, her spine straightening itself.
"One, you must never reveal any sensitive information about Fairy Tail to any outsider for as long as you live.
"Two, never contact any clients you've worked for while in the guild for personal gain…and number three…although our paths will separate, promise that you will live your life to the fullest…meaning you must treat everyday as if it was your last in this world…never forget your Fairy Tail friends and treasure them for as long as you live…"
Nyssa was staring at her and then Eve raised her hand which was glowing with magic before launching it into the sky.
"LET THE FAIRY TAIL FAREWELL START," she yelled out in a powerful voice.
Suddenly the sky was filled with fireworks causing Nyssa's mouth to drop open in shock as she was staring up at the night sky. The sight of the many blast of magic in the air told that it was the work of the other members of the guild and just seeing them, she can feel some tears falling from her eyes..
She stared at Eve who still had her arm raised into the air, and her hand was in the Fairy Tail symbol and it made Nyssa's eyes widen lightly having learned what it means during her time at Fairy Tail…
No matter how far away you are, even when I can't see you…I'll always be looking your way.
That Fairy Tail feel that she deserved such a goodbye…made her feel more humbled than she ever felt in her entire life.
"Eve…," she said softly, her voice thick with emotions.
"I'll always be there," Eve said softly, "Even when I can't be physically. I'll always stand by your side."
Eve gave her a brilliant smile.
"After all, Fairy Tail is family."
Nyssa can feel the tears rolling down her cheeks as the fireworks continued to boom above them. She raised her hand wiping the tears before forming her own Fairy Tail symbol with her hand.
"You damn right we are."
Nyssa knew that she will come back to Fairy Tail one day. The lessons she learned about being a family being among them will always stay with her and maybe she could one day teach her sister about it.
She traveled out of Fiore and into Alvarez making her way straight toward the Mystic's home. The blind man stood in front of the house when she arrived, a slight smile upon his face.
"It's been a while Nyssa," he said.
Nyssa smiled.
"Hello old man," she said, "I think you know why I am here now."
The old man chuckled.
"I might have an idea," he said, "C'mon inside…let's talk."
Nyssa nodded.
Wait for me Talia…I will find you soon and when I do, we will be a true family.
I dont think i've ever revealed Nyssa's sis name in the original story but since Nyssa was inspired by Nyssa al Ghul from Arrow...i thought it appropriate that her older sister was also inspired by a DC character hence Talia Al Ghul...thought she never made an appearance.
Hope you have enjoyed that chapter and hope you people enjoy the read.
