Jennifer's Pov
Jennifer was not ashamed to say that she and Kevin did it anywhere and everywhere. They had done it in his room, his kitchen (pancake batter led to many things), the back of his car, hell, they had even done it on his uncle's boat. Jenny was ready to bet that if they found an abandoned classroom in school, they might just lock it up and get it on. Kevin warned her that sex was addicting but she didn't take him seriously. He had compared it to drug use and that got her attention because he had hit a cold spot without knowing. In his seventh grade year, her brother hung out with the wrong crowd and he started using cocaine and he smoked weed. He became distant and was easily annoyed.
When she found the drugs in his room her first action was to tell her parents. That same night, they had confronted him and he ran away. Her parents had practically disowned him but when they found him at church talking to the pastor and asking for the forgiveness of God for his sins, they had overheard Adam asking the priest for help to get over his addiction and that was when Eve's parent's decided to forgive him and took him back in. If anyone met Adam and they were told that he did drugs once upon a time, they would laugh so hard that they might just die. Adam was no longer his seventh grade self after rehab.
Eve had seen how hard it was for Adam to give up his addiction. A week into his program, when she went to see him at the rehab facility, Adam looked like he was in so much pain. The withdrawal he was going through had him going insane. He was so mean towards her and he was so desperate for just a small huff of weed that he had threatened to kill her if she didn't help him get some. She had been afraid of him for so long but she never gave up on her brother. By his freshman year, Adam was drug free and back to who he was before seventh grade.
Even with the comparison that Kevin had done between the sex and the drugs, she still didn't listen to him. She was already addicted and by how she remembered her brother, withdrawal did not look like an option. After a bit, Kevin finally gave up trying to get her unaddicted and head –on cooperated. Their 12th time was better than their first. Kevin had had a lot of practice. It's not to be TMI, but Kevin was a god when it came to it.
When they first did it, Kevin warned her that she was going to regret it but she thought, at the moment, she knew, that she wouldn't. As the days passed and as it became a habit, nothing happened. Then March 7 came. Kevin's brother turned 10 and things were looking up. Three days later, Joey died. Kevin was devastated. He snapped at everyone and he even began to isolate himself. With a bit of moral support from his friends, Kevin was back to normal. Well, as normal as he could get with knowing that his little brother was dead. After March, April arrived. Jennifer had been feeling a bit weird for a while and she had noticed changes in herself. Changes that worried her.
Jenny didn't want to put anything else on Kevin's shoulders, his brother's death was still holding an effect on him, but she had suspicions and she couldn't hold them from him. Jennifer called Kevin at 2 on a Saturday afternoon. Unintentionally, she spoke to him with the most panicked voice she had ever used and caused Kevin to leave his Saturday practice to see her faster than ASAP. They agreed to meet up at Star's Café and when the door dinged open, Jenny was not relived to see him. She felt a weight on her shoulders but she tried to ignore it. As soon as they had made eye-contact, Kevin rushed to her and swallowed her in a hug.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"We need to talk privately."
Kevin gave her a questioning glance but said nothing as he led her out the door and to his car. He told her that his parent's weren't home and that it would be a bit before they returned. Jennifer nodded, only half of her attention was directed at him. At a red light, Kevin stopped and put a hand on her shoulder with a reassuring and kind smile on his lips.
"Jenny, I got zero idea what it is that you want to tell me," he stated, "but whatever the matter is, I promise that it'll be okay."
Jenny nodded in appreciation and turned to look back out the window. The light turned green and Kevin continued to drive. Jennifer thought of what she was going to tell him and her thoughts of his reaction worried her. She leaned forward in her seat and placed her head in her hands and started crying. She could feel Kevin's worried eyes bore into her for a second before he looked back to the road. Sooner than she expected or wanted, Kevin's car parked in front of his house and Jennifer got out with great hesitation. He led her to his room and sat her down on his bed as he got down on his knees in front of her and looked up at her.
"What's wrong?" He asked again.
"I-uh…" Her voice trailed off. She had no idea how to tell him. Her suspicions were just that, she had no way to guarantee that what she thought was true. She didn't want to get Kevin riled up but then again, this wasn't something she could tell to just about anyone. She especially could not tell her parents. Jenny looked down at Kevin and held his stare for a little before she tore into another sob.
Kevin held her for a little until she murmured softly, "I'm late…never late…two months…"
Jennifer could feel the confusion radiate off him and when realization kicked in, she could practically see his eyes pop open. He broke the hug and stared at her.
"Jenny, are you trying to tell me that you're…" He didn't seem to want to finish the sentence.
She nodded. "Kevin, I think…I think I'm pregnant."
Kevin's wide eyes slowly closed and when he opened them again, he asked, "Have you taken a test?"
She shook her head as another tear fest took over her. Kevin bit his lip and he stood up. "Stay here. If my mom comes before I do, give her your best excuse."
Before Jenny could protest, Kevin walked out the door and left Jenny alone in his room. She choked back a sob and gently placed a hand over her still-flat stomach as if wanting to feel a sign of a human life forming inside her.
…
Kevin came back 20-minutes later with a pharmacy bag. He told her to go into his bathroom and to take all the tests. She swallowed but stood up and followed his orders. Moments later, she was sitting on his bed while watching Kevin paced around his room. Two minutes later, Kevin walked to her and hugged her.
"It's gonna be alright," he said.
She wanted to agree so badly but something told her that he was wrong. Instead of saying anything, she leaned into his embrace and tried to calm her nerves. She wasn't very religious (despite her super-hardcore-Christian parents), she was practically Atheist, but she did what she rarely did- she stared praying to God and Jesus Christ, hoping for the test to be negative. As soon as Kevin's phone went off, he broke the embrace and rushed to the door but before he rushed in, he stopped and turned to look at Jennifer.
She didn't want to be the first one to see the result so she gestured for Kevin to go on. Seconds later, he walked out with two of the tests in his hands and a grim expression on his features. He sat next to her and passed her the tests before he put his hands over his face and heaved a sigh. Jennifer took the test and quickly dropped them as soon as she saw the results. Her hands covered her mouth on their own accord and the water works came harder than ever. She started to rock back and forth and Kevin snapped out of his own shock to envelop her in a hug.
Jennifer was not the type of person who begged but as Kevin held her without uttering a single word, she felt like she had no other option. She didn't want to go through this alone but then she felt selfish. She was only thinking about herself. Kevin was also going to be affected in more ways than one and she knew he wasn't ready for that. But then again, neither was she. Jenny broke away from his embrace and looked up at him.
She swallowed the lump in her throat and said, "Kev-Kevin, if you don't…if you're not ready for this, I-I won't-"
Kevin stopped her from talking and hugged her again. He kissed her cheek and said, "I'm not going to bail. Whether you like it or not, we're in this together. I'm not going to leave you."
A wave of relieve and gratitude rolled over her and she threw herself at Kevin. She buried her nose in the crooked of his neck and continued to cry. Kevin held her and rubbed soothing circle on her back. They stayed like that for a couple of minutes until Kevin made her look at him.
"Jenny," he said, "when my mom comes back from work we are going to tell her, okay? I know you don't want to and I know that you're scared, I am too, but my mom will understand. She'll take you to the clinic so we can make sure that this isn't a false alarm. Don't tell your parents until you're ready."
Jennifer knew better than to argue with Kevin. She knew that what he was doing was for her sake. Half an hour later, Kevin's mom walked in the house, allowing her presence to be known by asking if Kevin was home. From his room and quite hesitantly, Kevin told her that he needed her in his room. When she saw Jennifer crying and Kevin's grim look, Mrs. Enderson stopped in her tracks and quickly went into mother mode.
"What happened?" She asked.
Kevin looked at Jennifer for a moment before he said, "mom, you know how people say that 'History repeats itself'?"
With a confused but still worried look, she nodded and Kevin continued. "Well, you're history just repeated itself."
Understanding slowly came to her. She cupped her hands over her mouth as if trying to prevent any sort of scolding out.
"Oh Kevin, Jennifer dear, how?"
Kevin shrugged. "I-I don't know." He admitted. "We were careful. We used protection and none of the condoms broke."
"What about that time in February," Jennifer said silently, "you ran out."
"But I pulled out before I…" This conversation was getting awkward.
"Even if you pulled out, Kevin, pre-cum can still impregnate a girl."
Kevin looked down at his feet. If that was the case, then it was his fault that she was pregnant. He heard his mother sigh.
"Lay down, dear," She told Jennifer. "I'm going to pull your shirt up a bit, okay?"
Jennifer nodded and laid down. Just as she had promised, Kevin's mom pulled her shirt up a bit and gently ran a finger up and down her stomach. After a bit, she pulled Jennifer's shirt down and told her that she could sit up. She rubbed her face tiredly and ran a hand through her hair as she pursed her lips.
"There's a baby bump there, alright." She said. "You're definitely pregnant, Jenny, you're not far along. I'd say February was the month."
…
"What are you going to do?" Mrs. Enderson asked as she placed a cup of water in front of Jenny.
In a small voice, Jennifer said, "I'm going to wait until I'm a bit more noticeable, after that, I'm going to tell my parents and brother."
"And you?" She asked Kevin.
To try to lighten the mood, he said, "I'm going to turn into her slave for all eternity."
Jennifer gave him a half-hearted chuckle but his mom slapped his shoulder. "Not a joking matter."
Kevin sighed. "I'm going to open a bank account and I'm going to start saving money. With your parental permission, I'll get an apartment."
Mrs. Enderson sighed and rubbed her forehead. "Neither of you are going to drop-out of school."
"Of course not!" Kevin cried but Jennifer stayed silent.
"Jennifer, you're not going to drop-out either." Mrs. Enderson. "I only dropped-out because I had no one to help me with Kevin, his father decided to be a coward and ran away. But you, you have Kevin and if your parents decide that they want to be idiots, much like my own, then you have me, understood."
Jennifer nodded. She and Kevin shared a glance. They both knew that in about 7 months, their life's would change whether it was for the better or worse.
Review? Slap me in the face? Throw me off a cliff? I don't care. Do as you wish.
