Chapter 25:
Heir Apparent Pt1
Derek sat next to his aunt watching with the other rangers Nick and Daggeron training. Each ranger except Desmond and Derek hands were bound to the each other's hand with a Velcro strap and rope, and each ranger including Derek had a wooden sword in their hand. Nick and Daggeron fought demonstrating a fighting technique, Desmond looked over at his little brother and chuckled seeing his awed expression.
Each ranger watched the intense battle, even though Desmond was one of the teams best fighter he declined and allowed Nick to fight with Daggeron. Derek looked over at his brother and pinched his arm earning a glare from his older brother. "Why aren't you fighting? The real reason Des."
Desmond chuckled and whispered to his younger brother ear. "Well, Daggeron loves Hunter's vegan crepes he made for Shay. So I told him if he fights Nick and wins I give him 10, if he looses he only gets 1"
Derek gave the black ranger and blank look and sighs. "That's such a stupid deal."
"Did I forget about him owning me a drink if he looses?" Desmond smirked and looked up seeing Udonna giving him a disapproving look. "It's a joke aunt Udonna. I swear."
Udonna nodded and looked back at the fight while Desmond sighed relief. Looking back and chuckled pulling Derek close to him and whispered. "I should have let Daggeron fight you."
"Why?"
"Because of the style of fight."
"Why doesn't he use his laser lamp?" Xander questioned.
"In bound battle training." Udonna stated. "Only swords can be used and no magic. Daggeron is very skilled in this technique."
"I bet Derek can handle him." Desmond smirked.
"You sure?" Vida questioned looking at Derek. "Does Mrs. B know he's here?"
Desmond smiled and nodded. "She knows, but her and Hunter are talking about the house their building in Ocean Bluff…and at he same time the house in San Angeles."
"Wait they're moving?!" Chip exclaimed and shook his head. "I won't let them!"
Derek laughed and watch the battle and laughed more seeing Nick defeating Daggeron. Desmond chuckled and looked at Daggeron. "You owe me now."
The others stood up while they walk over to them, Desmond took out a crepe and started to eat in chuckling seeing Daggeron's disapproving expression.
"You were taught by the best." Chip stated after Daggeron congratulated them all. "And so are we. Maybe one day we can be as good as Leanbow."
That got Udonna to snap her attention at the mention of her dead husband's name. Desmond looked over at Chip and placed his crepe away with a solemn expression. Derek looked down feeling awkward.
"I'm sorry Udonna." Daggeron apologized right away. "To you also Desmond Derek. I told Chip about your husband. He promised not to say a word."
"And I didn't." He pointed out. "Until now."
Xander looked around. "Does someone want to fill us in?"
"Udonna, he was a great man." Daggeron stated. "A hero. Perhaps it's time they learned about him."
Udonna looked at her two nephews who nodded towards her. She took a deep breath and answered. "Yes, it's time we told you the whole story."
Desmond stood outside the entrance of Rootcore waiting for his sister and mother. Looking down at Derek the older sibling patted his head. "It's okay…"
Derek nodded and rubbed his eyes to hide any tears much to the confusion of Desmond.
"Hey why you crying bud?" The black ranger bent down looking at his younger brother.
"It's nothing…" Derek whispered and look at his brother and sighed. "It's just that…what if Shay can't find Uncle Leanbow and cousin Bowen? It's sad that our family isn't whole…"
Desmond nodded and pulled his younger brother into a tight hug. Being 6'1 doesn't have its perks if your younger brother is barley 5 feet. "I understand Derek. Really I do, but with all of Shay's notes I think she's getting close."
Derek nodded and looked at his brother smiling weakly. He turned his head and saw his mother and older sister walking over. He ran over to his mom and hugged her. "Hey mom."
"Hi sweetie." Kim smiled and kissed his head; she walked over to her oldest and tallest son and hugged him. "Hi Desmond."
"Hi mom. Hey Shay."
"Des, Derek." Shayera smiled, her stomach slowly showing a small swelling. "Did she start yet?"
Desmond shook his head. "She wanted to wait until you and mom got here come on they're up in the balcony."
Kim nodded and ushered her three children up to the balcony of Rootcore where the rangers, Daggeron and Udonna waited.
The rangers sat outside on the balcony in Rootcore waiting for Kim, Desmond, Shayera and Derek to come up so that Udonna can begin her tale of her lost husband. Just then the five family members walked up and saw the rangers sitting the way they did during the fight. Kim nodded towards Daggeron and they headed towards him, while Kim gave a quick tight hug to Udonna for comfort before the sorceress started her tale.
"Before the great war" She started, "Leanbow and I lived happily with our baby. His name was Bowen."
"Me and Leanbow didn't get along at first." Kimberly stated getting her kids and the others attention. "When Udonna told me she was pregnant with Bowen, I was ready to attack Leanbow."
The twins looked at each other and chuckled. Daggeron chuckled. "I remember hearing of you Kimberly from Leanbow." He looked at the rangers. "He was my mentor, the forces of evil attacked and we fought them on all fronts. Leanbow fought bravely but Morticon and his troops were too strong. We needed a plan so Leanbow met with Niella and myself."
"I was having a normal life during this." Kimberly stated earning a look from Udonna. "My choice."
"Valley girl attack." Shayera whispered earning a nod from her brothers.
"He always did things his way." Udonna stated after playfully pushing Kim.
"I remember." Daggeron nodded.
"I remember when he first met me he didn't believe I was your sister." Kim stated.
"It was because of your attitude." Udonna stated.
"I did not have a attitude!" Kim shot back.
"Uh…yeah you do mom." Desmond and Shayera both stated earning a glare from their mom. "Not our fault we live with you."
Daggeron chuckled at the family antics. "It was always the honorable way. Niella and I prepared for the final battle. Then we were joined by someone we thought was our friend."
Chip frowned. "But I thought Calindor was your enemy?"
"He is." Udonna stated. "Of course not for Kimberly." Kimberly rolled her eyes at her sister. "And having once been a dear friend, it made the betrayal cut all the deeper. When the battle was taken to the surface world, I knew the forces of Darkness would be after our child. Bowen, born of magical blood would have the power and potential to stop their evil domination."
"As I left with Bowen" Daggeron started. "I was attacked by Calindor. Dark magic gave Calindor more power than ever. In the end our magic collided and we were both cursed. As for Bowen we now know that Phineas found and brought him to the safety of the human world."
"So your son is alive?" Madison looked to Udonna. "Somewhere."
"Yes." She replied. "Somewhere."
Kim nodded and explained. "That's were Shayera comes in, since I told them of my family, she been searching for any clues on Bowen's where bouts."
Udonna smiled and continued. "Leanbow led the fight and banished the armies of darkness to the Underworld. Then he continued the battle behind the gates…alone. Leanbow and Niella gave their lives to save us all."
"Their sacrifice will not be in vain." Xander stated standing but sat back down when Shayera and Desmond stood up.
"They will be remembered" Vida added looking at the twins confused.
Desmond smiled and nodded looking at Shayera. "Want to tell them your theory."
Shayera chuckled and nodded but was interrupted by Nick groaning in pain. The others turned to see him clutching his head and everyone but Kim knew what it meant.
"Koragg wants to fight." He looked at the teammates.
"We are ready." Daggeron stepped up.
"No." Nick shook his head. "Not you, Daggeron. You are to meet with Imperious, separately and finish off an old battle."
Desmond nodded and gave his mom a hug before running off with his team. Kim looked at her daughter who leaned back with a pout forming on her lips. "Upset you can't fight with them?"
"Yeah…" Shayera looked at them, and then back down.
The rangers watched the battle through the crystal ball, she grip the arrowhead when she witnesses the rangers disappears. She looked at her mother and her aunt. "What are we gonna do?"
Kim smiled at her daughter and took out a box.
Desmond looked at the others as they found themselves trapped on some sort of platform. He noticed each of them was on their own platform, and they couldn't escape the shield that surrounded them prevented that. He made sure the arrowhead was still with him and sighed relieved.
"You're not getting anything from us." Vida swore.
"Oh it's not for me." Imperious explained laughing. "It's for the master."
"That's the thing Leanbow sacrificed himself to defeat." Nick recalled.
"Leanbow?" Koragg questioned confused.
Desmond looked at him and took in what he looks like then remembered the description of Leanbow. He heard Imperious scoffed. "That name is not spoken here. Now you will give the master the power to rise up and conquer." Just like that the rangers felt their powers being drained. Desmond on the other hand didn't feel it, he was using his animal spirit as protection.
"Be like Shay…and depend on your spirit." He took a deep breath gripping his arrowhead tightly. Looking up he noticed a small crack forming. He smirked and closed his eyes acting to be in pain.
"The master will soon rise." Imperious continued not noticing the crack forming around Desmond.
"They cannot defend themselves." Koragg stated. "There is no honor in this defeat."
"Stop that foolish blabbering!" Imperious shouted. "This is our day of victory! This is the end of the mystic force!"
"I don't think so!" Desmond shouted catching their attention he stepped out of the platform and cracked his neck pulling his sleeve up showing his stripes. "You can't have a victory if I'm not there."
"And I'm here to help!" Just then too much the rangers surprise Shayera appeared besides Desmond in her Pai Zhuq outfit. She looked at Desmond and smiled. "You can't possibly win against two Pai Zhuq masters and ninjas."
Desmond nodded his head and got into his fighting stance while Shayera did the same. She turned her head and nodded, just then Udonna appeared before the rangers using her powers to stop the energy Shayera and Desmond got ready to defend her.
When Udonna turned towards Imperious knocked her staff out of her hands and blasted the twins away, which caught a gasp from the rangers. "How touching." Imperious huffed. "The sorceress and twin sister comes to save her little rangers and brother. Now you'll feel the wrath of the master." Udonna was hit by the power from the pit holding the master she was thrown to the ground, Imperious and most of the other villains laughed. "Behold her destruction!"
Shayera turned her head towards Koragg and whispered. "Uncle Leanbow I know it's you." She saw him turn to her and her brother she smiled softly and nodded. "Go save your wife."
Desmond also nodded towards him. "We know it's you. Fight it!"
Koragg then rushed forward to the surprise of the rangers, he freed Udonna. Smoke covered him, the twins quickly ran over to Udonna and smiled looking at the smoke as it cleared reveling not Koragg but a man in similar armor but at the same time different. The rangers all sank down as the platforms they stood on turned to sand allowing them to move freely. The twins high fived each other seeing who was now standing where Koragg stood.
"NO!" Imperious gasped. "It can't be!" the armored man dropped the armor revealing a man familiar to some people of the room and Udonna.
"Who's that?" Xander questioned looking at his teammates and the twins.
Shayera leaned over to Desmond and whispered. "You want your old morpher?"
Desmond nodded and took his ninja storm morpher and noticed she had hers. "This is going to be fun."
Shayera smirked and nodded. "Mom placed a spell around my stomach so the baby is safe. I'm dying for a good fight."
Desmond nodded and stood up with his sister as Udonna looked at the man shocked.
"Leanbow?"
