Candy Cursed

Michael: 9

Lynne: 4

Dylan: 1

XxXxX

Her eyes were bright with hope, her ever shining brown eyes peering up at her father. Her hands were squeezed tight, holding onto to his jeans, with her pouty little mouth sticking out. "Please Daddy?"

And the chocolatier felt his resistance starting to break. "No Lynne."

What was the girl asking for? Why, she had been eyeing none other than the candy at the checkout counter. They must have thought they were so smart for putting them there, knowing that little kids like Lynne would just beg their parents for a treat.

When Kashino and Ichigo were first found out that they were having a baby, a typical stereotype was labelled on each of them. Ichigo, with her bubbly personality and inability to refuse, would be that mother who would spoil her kids senseless. Kashino, with his stubborn personality and sadistic ways, would be the one always knocking sense into their mother that she shouldn't spoil them.

However, most were surprised to see it was the other way around. Ichigo seemed to go all out when they were having their first baby. She bought only the best, expensive things for her baby to be. She had learned her lesson however. They were in no way a rich family, and to cover all the expenses, they suffered many consequences. That was why when Michael was born, yes, he grew up with the expensive things his mother had bought previously, but in no way was he spoiled rotten as a child. In fact, it was quite a rare occasion for his mother to buy him a treat or two.

And then came Lynne; she was the princess of the family. Being the only daughter of Kashino and Ichigo, she was seen as a gem to the public eye. After all, Kashino and Ichigo were pretty well known in the world of patissiers and patissieres. Lynne was seen as the next 'Ichigo' almost; destined to blow a breath of fresh air into an otherwise sugar coated world where nothing new was happening.

She was quite cute too. She had a striking resemblance to her father, sporting both his stature, being petite and skinny, as well as fine strawberry blonde hair, the same shade as his, with the 'strawberry' essence of her blonde hair coming from her mother's brunette status. She had huge round eyes, similar to that of Ichigo's, and from that alone it was easy to see why Kashino was so weak against her.

Those chocolate orbs that glistened with cheer that reminded him so much of her mother, Ichigo. His wife was known as a miracle worker. Her famous sweets, different from anything ever seen before, were legends. Likewise, on a less serious note, she was the only girl in history to ever tame Kashino Makoto. She was his kryptonite, and he listened to her without a doubt in his heart. That was until Lynne came along. She was Kashino's pride and joy, reflecting Ichigo in the way she smiled and how she acted. She was like a new and improved version of the said Ichigo kryptonite, being even more dangerous than her mother. In fact, if she were to play he cards right; it was most definite that Kashino would listen to her, over his own wife.

And this was quite evident on a certain occasion, or rather, a string of occasions that Kashino would never really forget. Even more so, one Ichigo would never really let go.

"Daddy, please?" Lynne pleaded again. She pushed herself closer to him, before pointing to the candy lined up in neat little rows at the checkout counter.

"No Lynne, not today," Kashino said, "Mama said that we're having dinner when we get home. I'm not spoiling your appetite."

She frowned at this, pushing out her lip, "Please Daddy? Mama doesn't have to know!" Effortlessly, she collected tears into her eyes, making them appear glossy.

Kashino hesitated a moment, glancing at the selection of candy. It was only one time, right? Surely Ichigo couldn't get mad if he did it once...

No. Once he started giving in, he'd always do it. He couldn't allow that to happen.

"Daddy, don't you love me?" Lynne asked, giving him a pitiful glance. It was like Kashino could see his reflection in her tearful eyes, and his heart felt like it was tearing into pieces.

"Of course I love you, baby girl!" He exclaimed, "You know I love you." She held her arms out for him to pick her up, which he did.

Face to face with her, she asked, "T-then... Why won't you buy me candy?"

Trapped.

The chocolatier chewed on his bottom lip, trying to find a way out. Of course, with Lynne, there was no way out.

"If Daddy buys you candy today, you have to promise not to tell Mommy, okay?"

The grin on the little girl's face was priceless. Her eyes light up like New Years Eve fireworks, pressing a cute kiss on his nose. "I love you Daddy! Promise! Promise!"

The blond sighed, ruffling the younger blonde's hair, "Alright my princess, which candy would you like?" He held Lynne over the counter's conveyer belt, allowing her to view the candies lined up on the side. Many were in bright coloured packages, enticing the girl's interest, pulling her into their fluorescent splendor. However, she finally settled on two, strawberry sour gummies and a cheeky red cherry lollipop.

Kashino put them down on the counter, along with the fruits and vegetables Ichigo had sent him to buy. As the cashier began to scan the items, she looked up at the blonde, who was still held in her father's arms. "Aren't you a cutie?" The cashier said, giving the girl her candy once they had been scanned, "You sure are lucky to have a Daddy who'll buy you candy!"

Lynne nodded furiously, ripping off the wrapper on her lollipop, "My Daddy is the greatest!" She agreed, stuffing the sugary treat into her mouth, "I wuv him."

"Lynne, don't talk with things in your mouth."

She took the lollipop out of her mouth before repeating, "I love him!"

"I can see that," The cashier replied warmly, "How will you be paying sir? Cash or debit?"

Kashino discovered later on that he had a big problem. No, Lynne wasn't going to tell her mother about the candy her father had gotten her. That wasn't the problem. The problem was Ichigo would be able to tell regardless.

He had made the biggest mistake when buying her candy. He had forgotten, or rather underestimated, the horror that was a child's sugar rush.

Lynne bounced up and down in her car seat, squealing happily, while throwing more and more of those strawberry candies into her mouth. "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" She chanted happily, "I love, love, love, love, love you!"

Kashino winced, noting how hyperactive she was being, "Princess, you need to calm down. Mommy is going to know I bought you candy if you act like this."

The blonde however, could not contain herself. She shrieked happily, pounding her fists against her car seat's arm rests, "Daddy! Daddy! Let's play! I wanna run 'round lots!"

The chocolatier looked around the street nervously. What was he supposed to do about a sugar rush? He thought about the sugar rushes he had as a child. They were definitely worse than Lynne's, but no doubt, she had qualities in her that were just like his sugar rushes. She wouldn't stop quaking because of all the excess energy. Not to mention she was talking super fast, as well as repeating words over and over.

"What am I going to do?" Kashino muttered to himself. He was already starting to feel nervous; his fingers tapping the sides of the steering wheel anxiously. Then he drove by the park and had a streak of genius. Turning left into the side street by the park, he parked at the side of the road. He knew Ichigo was going to kill him for being late, but it was better than being scolded for spoiling their daughter again. So what? Lynne was his daughter too. Reasoning that it was fair for him to spoil his daughter if he wanted to, he opened the back door and began to unbuckle a squirming Lynne from the car.

"Daddy, what're we doing?" She asked, beginning to hit his shoulders in anticipation to get out of the vehicle.

Kashino pulled her out of the car, setting her down on the grass, "Lynne, princess, you have lots of energy, right?"

The girl nodded quickly, raising herself up on her toes, "Yeah Daddy! Lots and lots!"

"Okay, I want you to run around and play until you've used it all up. Do you get me?"

Lynne gave him a confused look, however grinned happily and agreed, "Yes Daddy!"

"And-"

She reached over and kissed his cheek with her sugar sticky lips, "Don't tell Mama, right?"

The chocolatier blushed, though nodded, "Yes. That."

Without another word, the strawberry blonde ran for the park, squealing the whole way. She ran around, playing tag with other kids she befriended, climbed up and down the jungle gym, as well as spending countless moments on the swings. Finally, after about 30 minutes, she ran back to her father, who was sitting at a picnic table. She had a much calmer look on her face and told him cheekily, "Done Daddy."

Kashino was sure of this, because she spoke slowly and was no longer twitching from the excess sugar energy. Instead, she began to rub her eyes and gave a little yawn, "'m tired, Daddy." She said. Kashino was aware of the fact, knowing too well the feelings of a sugar crash. However, he couldn't ignore another problem that he was faced with.

No longer was Lynne hyped up on sugar, but rather, she was an absolute mess. All the playing in the park had roughed up the girl quite a bit. Her light washed jeans were streaked with grass stains across the knees, and the girl had dirt smudged across her face. In fact, she even had stray wood chips in her hair.

"Oh man," Kashino groaned, "Now what am I going to do? Mommy's going to get mad at me if I bring you home like this!"

The tired four year old shrugged, not all too concerned. Instead, she gestured for her father to pick her up, which he did. Arriving back to their car, Kashino grabbed Lynne's bag from the trunk. Luckily for him, Lynne was always sent to kindergarten with extra clothes. So, in the back of their car, he attempted to freshen up and fix his sleepy toddler.

Trying his best to shield her from prying eyes, the chocolatier changed the girl into her extra outfit, which consisted of cotton candy pink shorts and a white shirt, adorned with strawberry ice cream cones. He curiously tried to brush her long blonde hair, picking out wood chips as he went along. "Daddy, I'm tired!" Lynne whined, beginning to lay her head on his shoulder as he straightened out her unruly hair.

"Just a little bit longer princess, come on," He coaxed her, lifting her head. All that was left to do was to tie her hair back into a ponytail. The only problem was Ichigo was the one who always did it. He had no idea how to tie one at all.

"Do you know how to ponytail your hair, baby?" Kashino asked nervously, watching the girl rub her eyes once again.

"No," She murmured. "Can we go now?"

The chocolatier sighed, "Soon, hold on." He took her golden locks into his hands and attempted to pull them together at the back of her head. "Okay, I've got the ponytail, now how do I tie it?" To make matters worse, he had lost the hair tie that had previously held the girl's hair together. Instead, he took an elastic band from the front and awkwardly began to wrap it at the base of the ponytail. "There, done." He said, stepping back to admire his handy work.

Lynne ran her hands atop her head before frowning, "Daddy. There are lumps in my hair."

"I know princess, it's okay," Kashino assured her, "You're my super beautiful baby girl either way!"

Too tired to really care, she shrugged, allowing her father to pick her up out of the trunk and buckle her back up into her car seat, "We going now?"

"Yes baby, we'll be home in no time."

As Kashino began the ride home, he was aware of yet another problem he had. What was he supposed to tell Ichigo about Lynne's outfit switch? He could say that she had something spilled on her, but then Ichigo would insist on washing the clothes to prevent staining. Then she would know he was lying.

He plotted by himself as he continued to drive and Lynne snoozed away in the back without a care in the world. He came up with the perfect solution as soon as he pulled into the house's driveway. He would say Lynne got hot wearing her other outfit, so he changed her. Then, while Ichigo was busy he would sneak the clothes into the laundry and she wouldn't be the wiser.

Scooping up his daughter who stayed fast asleep and her bag, he quietly unlocked the door and stepped into the house. He was well aware that it was a lot later then he had planned; to the point where the sun was setting and street lights were beginning to flicker on. He tried his best to get in unnoticed, but to no avail.

"Ma-ko-to!" Ichigo's assertive voice rang in his ears and he froze. She stood in front of him, her pink strawberry patterned apron still on. The woman's brunette hair was pulled back into a ponytail similar to her daughter's, minus the amateur handy work and strange lumps. "What took you so long?" She asked. Her tone implied worry. "I sent you to pick up Lynne and buy apples and celery. How does that take over 3 hours?"

"I'm sorry," He winced, preparing to lie like crazy to save himself, "Lynne was hot, so I had to change her in the car."

Ichigo's gaze wandered to the blonde girl, slumbering quietly in her father's arms. She looked quite tuckered out and the young woman's expression wavered, "Oh my baby girl," She sighed, "It is summer, I suppose that makes sense." She reached out to take Lynne off her husband's hands, "Do her clothes need washing? I'll do it later after dinner is ready-"

"It's fine, I'll do it," Kashino continued, "It's not too bad. I'll just rinse them off and they'll be good as new."

"Really?" Ichigo replied, confused with her husband's strange behaviour, "If you say so."

She walked into the living room, laying Lynne down on the couch beside her younger brother, who was watching cartoons on the television. Dylan gave his father a floppy wave, before his attention was drawn back by the cartoon. "Hey Dyl, how have you been all day? Good for Mommy, right?" Kashino asked him.

"Uwa. Mama! Good!" He babbled back cheerfully, allowing his father to pick him up.

"Good. Good. You want to help Daddy rinse off your older sister's clothes? You love to help, right Dyl?"

"Good! Good!" Dylan chirped, "Dada, Helpuh!"

"Alright," He shouldered Lynne's backpack before walking toward the stairs.

Ichigo smiled at him, "Aw, you're always so cute when you do so well with our kids."

He smirked at her, "Have I ever been bad with them?"

The brunette shrugged, "While you do that, where's the celery? I need it for tonight's dinner."

"Oh. I left it in the car, it should be beside Lynne's car seat. I'll get-"

"It's okay Makoto," Ichigo replied sweetly, placing a hand on his chest, "You continue to be a good Daddy, and I'll get it."

He smiled goofily at her, before agreeing and handing her the car keys. He took Dylan upstairs, having him sit in one of the laundry baskets, since he loved playing in them so much. While he tried to rub the grass stains out of his daughter's jeans, Michael came bursting through the laundry room door, "Hey Dad? Mom's calling you."

"Is she? Okay, give me a second," He said. Looking over the light jeans, without a grass streak in sight, he hung them to dry, "Watch your brother, will you?"

Coming down the stairs, he called out, "Ichigo, sweetheart, what is it?"

He was met with her in the kitchen, with a strange expression on her face. It was definitely not the happy, oblivious face she wore previously. She had the grocery bags of celery and apples in her one hand, setting them down on the table. Her eyebrow twitched, and she gave Kashino one of those looks where he instantly knew he was in trouble.

"Makoto..." She stretched his name out, his blood running cold with fear. Simply, she held up the candy wrappers from Lynne's treats, held between her fingers, "Care to explain?"

The chocolatier almost refused to make eye contact with her, until she cleared her throat and he gave her a sheepish look. "... Busted?"

Raising her eyebrows, she gave him the look once more, "Oh, you're so busted."
