Chapter 25 Conversations.

Tim's POV

It was Saturday. On Monday, Tony and I would have to work again. Today was the day we would discuss our future. To be honest I was nervous. After lunch, Tony and I sat in the living room looking at each other.

»How are we going to do this? «, Tony asked.

»How about you tell me one of your problems, we discuss it, try to find a solution and then it is my turn? «

Tony nodded. After a few moments he said:

»What will we do when our baby is born and we have to work? «

»I'll stay at home. I can still write new books, god knows I have enough ideas, or I could do something computer related from home, while caring for our baby. And you can continue working at NCIS. It's your dream job after all. «

When Tony didn't reply for a few minutes, I became nervous. He just stared at me with sad eyes. Finally, he grabbed my hand.

»Tim, I don't want that. «

»What? «

»Why should I want this? You know how it is being an NCIS agent. Sometimes we work for two weeks being barely home or we work on Christmas or Thanksgiving. Do you think I want to be away from you and our baby? Do you think I want you and our daughter to sit here on your birthday or her birthday waiting and worrying for me? I want to be an active part in our daughter's life. I want to play the same part in her life you will have. But that can't happen when one of us work at NCIS. Maybe there is a possibility I don't see. «

I considered his words for a minute. I didn't want him to stop being an NCIS agent. The job made him happy. And a small part of me feared that he would resent me or our daughter later, because he gave up his dream job. But on the other hand he looked so sad when he thought of the possibility of not spending time with his daughter or me.

»What do you want to do? «

Tony shook his head.

»I don't know. And that worries me the most. «

I nodded understandingly.

»What do you think about scheduling a meeting with Gibbs and Director Vance to talk about further possibilities? «

Tony smiled.

»That sounds good. Your turn. «

»What will you do about your mother? Will you contact her? «

Tony became tense.

»Tim, I don't think I can talk ab- «

»Don't you dare! I know it is a hard topic for you to talk about, but you can't run away from your problems. Especially not if it is a topic concerning our daughter. «

He looked confused at me.

»Don't you think she will want to know her grandmother? «

Tony looked sad and defeated at his lap. I rubbed with my hand soothingly his hand.

»I don't know what I will do. I mean… A part of me wants her to be back in my life. She is my mom after all. But after 30 years…I don't know who she is. And I'm…I'm afraid that I am not what she expected and that she will be disappointed in me. Or maybe she will leave again. I couldn't bear that. «

I wrapped my arms around him.

»I don't know her, but I think she cares about you. A lot. And I am sure she had a very god reason for leaving you all those years ago. «

»I guess we could invite her over and let her explain. «, he murmured.

I kissed his temple.

»At least she has no problem with our relationship. «

He was silent for a few minutes.

»You are right. «

I smiled.

»It's your turn. «

»Who will be the godparents of our daughter? «

I chuckled.

»That worries you? «

»Tim, I am not joking. I need to know that someone will care about our daughter if something happens to us. I mean I know our family would do it anyway, but I need the reassurance of giving her godparents. «

I looked stunned at him. I didn't think he would be so serious about it.

»I never looked at it that way. Well, Gibbs is going to be his godfather, isn't he? «

»That was my first idea, too, but he will be already her granddad. «

»Who did you think about? «

»Well, Gibbs, you parents, Ducky and maybe my mom will be her grandparents. Director Vance and Jackie will be kind of her uncle and aunt. And Palmer will probably enough kids of himself with Breena. So, I thought about… Sarah, Ziva and Abby. «

»Three godmothers and no godfather? Isn't that a little bit unconventional? «

Tony chuckled.

»Tim everything about our small family is unconventional. «

I laughed.

»Well, that is true. But I think we should appoint her godparents a bit closer to her birth. We have a few months after all. «

He nodded.

»Do you think we will have financial problems? «

Tony shook his head.

»No, I don't think we will. I still have some of the money I inherited. I think 5 millions dollar are left. We have the money from your books. And we still have an income every month from the NCIS. «

»I know. I was more worried about the time we have more kids. «

»M-More kids? «

»I thought… I thought you would want more. «

»Tim, I am still not sure if I will be a good father for one child. I didn't think about another. Besides, you have already a high risk pregnancy. I don't want to endanger you or any of our kids. I am not saying we will never have kids again. But I want to wait until you have recovered from carrying this baby. Then we will see how we will handle being parents. And we will consult your doctor if it is safe again. Are you okay with that? «

I beamed at him and nodded. I felt happy that Tony didn't say no and I loved how he cared about me.

»Yes, I am okay with that. «

»Obviously you thought a lot about future kids, so what do you think we should do with our money? «

»I think we shouldn't take a risk and buy shares and stuff. I did that earlier in my life, but I don't want to take any risk with the money our kids could profit from. «

Tony nodded in agreement.

»I thought we should put some of the money you inherited aside as a college fund for our kids. And then we should put more money aside to get our kids on a good school. «

»You put a lot of thoughts into this. But I think that is a good idea. There are some good schools around here. «

»I am glad you agree. «

Tony stood up and held his hand out to me.

»Come on McMotherhen, let|s get something into your belly. «

I chuckled and grabbed his hand. Tony was right I felt hungry again. The pregnancy took slowly a toll on me, but I felt like this was worth it. I felt already deeply connected with the tiny baby in my tummy.

The next day Tony called his mom. He was pretty nervous, so I sat with him and held his hand.

»Hi. Uhm, I just wanted to i-invite you for tea in order to t-talk. «

Pause.

»N-Next S-Sunday would be good, yes. «

Pause.

»O-Okay. If I have to work unexpectedly, I will call you. «

Pause.

»Okay. Bye. «

He ended the call.

»Will she come? «

Tony nodded.

»She sounded really excited. And she wants to get to know you. «

On Monday, we met with Gibbs and Director Vance before the actual work day started.

»What can we do for you Agents? «

After we described our problem, they looked thoughtfully at us.

»I think Agent McGee could work as computer consultant. Technically he would be still an NCIS agent and would be able to use all the advantages that come with the job. As for Agent DiNozzo… I have some ideas how he can continue to work for the NCIS with better work times. But I have to research a little bit what's possible and what's not. I don't want to loose either of you. I am sure we will find something. «, Vance thought out loud.

We nodded and thanked him. When we went downstairs, we asked for Gibbs opinion. He looked almose sadly at us.

»It will be a loss for the NCIS if you should leave, but I understand your child is more important. «

I smiled and Tony said:

»Thanks, boss. «

So, what do you think. Please review.
