Chapter 25: Exposé
The blood was pounding in her ears as she jogged to her room. She had started to feel sick as she entered the school and the nausea hadn't subsided since. She just needed to reach her room before she fell but she was already trying to decide which part of the floor would be more comfortable to fall, on her face. Just as she reached for her keys the door opened and she bumped into Kelly.
Sabrina lifted her eyebrows.
''How did you make it faster that me?'' She asked Kelly.
''I left before you changed.'' The other woman shook her head.
Sabrina reached out her hand and grabbed her friend's shoulder before her vision swum again. She was sweating but it had nothing to do with the heat and everything to do with nausea. She brushed past Kelly and headed to the bathroom. Her lip started bleeding again and the coppery taste made things worse. Kelly remained on the other side of the door.
''Kris told me you looked off today.'' She said quietly, trying to lead the conversation where she wanted it to go. And, admittedly this was Sabrina talking to Kris. About... ''stuff''.
''Told her I was tired.'' Sabrina muttered through the door.
''Are you gonna tell her?''
''When I can't do but tell her I will.''
She splashed some water over her face and got out of the bathroom. Just as she did there was a knock on the door and Kris came in. Speak of the... angel. Sabrina almost smiled but the she felt the ''aura''. The ''aura'' is a feeling sometimes described by people that have frequent grand mal seizures or fainting episodes and it is similar to a breath of wind or a warm feeling spreading through ones body.
Oh crap.
The last thing she saw as her world spun was Kris' face, her lips parting as if to ask her something but the sound never reached her ears.
Kelly was behind her when she lost consciousness. She was quick enough to grab her waist and stop her from crashing on the floor, lowering her slowly as the seizure begun. She firmly held Sabrina's head against her chest, while using her right hand under her jaw to keep it closed and safe. Kris was on the floor, kneeling next to them, panic showing in her eyes.
''What the bloody hell is going on?!'' The blond almost screamed.
Kelly groaned. It was hard enough to keep Sabrina's jerking body under control, now she had to figure out an explanation. And nothing but the truth would serve as a better explanation.
When Sabrina finally came to she was at first disoriented. She was still half lying on Kelly and half on the floor but she didn't feel bruises on her body as she usually felt after a seizure. She opened her eyes and found Kris staring. At this moment she knew there was no way to explain this to Kris without lying and she was about to start thinking of a realistic lie to tell but the look of pain she got from her made her stop.
''Kelly told you...'' She gave the phrase just a hint of a question but she knew the answer already. Kris nodded, her blue eyes deeper than usual.
Sabrina rolled on her side, still partially aware of Kelly's arms around her. She finally let herself surrender to the tears that threatened to fall since day one in the school. She couldn't know what Kelly's revelation would mean for her job, what it would mean for the Angels, hell, what it would mean for their friendship. As her shoulders shook she felt the familiar sound of Kelly's voice, just a whisper next to her ear.
''It's okay, Bri...'' she said and wrapped arms around her tighter, as if afraid of what would happen if she let go. She was this close to losing a person very dear to her and she knew that if she allowed this to happen then her relationship with Kris would be at stake as well, without Sabrina around many things would change and she doubted any of the had the mental stamina to go through any major changes right now. Now, more than ever, she needed to keep the Angels together, at all costs.
As Sabrina cried quietly, Kris reached out for her, putting a hand on her back, trying to maintain contact, afraid as well. Time seemed to stop and not matter anymore. They needed this, they all needed this small moment to count their loses, deal with the problem. The tension Kris felt with Sabrina after the ritual in the cave, it needed to be resolved and this was what was happening as well, quietly. With a silent agreement they hadn't realised they were making they were resolving issues, tensions, hurt emotions between each other. They needed to built trust again, restore courage and heal. The wouldn't, couldn't talk about some things. Kelly's fear of dealing with her past alone, Sabrina's fear of being judged and abandoned by the two people she held dear and Kris' angst of never being accepted by her coworkers that she entrusted her life with, these fears were now colliding with each other, crashing on each other with a mighty force that none of them had managed to foresee. To realise. To prevent. Which fear was the most important? Which one was the priority? What needed to be resolved first?
So quietly, Kris herself started to cry as well. She rubbed Sabrina's shoulder, hoping to be able to give at least some was their time to heal. No questions asked, no explanations needed.
Problems could wait for the morning. Until then time was theirs to invest into their last chance to make things right.
