Chapter 25

Our lives together

It had been a few weeks after the end of the case. Shinichi and Heiji asked from the American Organization to keep a secret the fact that they helped with the case just in case someone else would come after them. The organization was in dept to them so they happily agreed to take all the credit for themselves and keep the two detectives out. They also offered them protection but the two teenagers kindly denied.

Everything started to become normal again. Everyone returned to their normal highschool life. Ran continued to practice karate and Shinichi decided to continue to solve cases. Heiji and Kazuha returned to Osaka and Sonoko returned to her old highschool to be with Ran again. Ran's parents finally accepted the fact that Ran and Shinichi were together again and they didn't try to change their minds. Shinichi's parents left again for some other country as always.

Mairy stayed a little more with them just to finish the year and to be able to cope with her loses. She was accompanying Ran to her practices, running with Shinichi whenever there was a case to solve, anything to keep her head cool and away from her negative thoughts. But every time she would pass out of Anzu's house the emptiness was taking over once again. She was feeling sick and blaming herself for not being able to save none of them. At the end of the school she left. She thanked everyone and promised to keep in touch.

The house at the opposite side of Shinichi's house was kept empty. No one ever came to ask about it, or to sell it or to buy it. Days would pass, days would come months, months years and the time would flow away. Once Shinichi and Ran finished school they had to decide for their lives and their careers. Shinichi decided to become a police detective and later open a detective agency, like Mouri did. Ran decided to continue karate and become a world champion but at the same time she was studying to become a teacher. Mr Mouri closed his agency and Ran's mother came back to live together again with her husband and daughter. But after a few months they went along with the Kudos to travel around the world. Ran moved to Shinichi's house. Heiji decided to do the same as Shinichi so he could work next to his father and Kazuha surprisingly went to study to become a nurse. She really loved babies and she also knew that Heiji was careless so she had to treat him and take care of him.

Years came by. Shinichi and Ran were now 25 and the three little detectives, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi and Genta were now in high school along with Ai who continued to grow along with them. Dr Agasa continued to make a lot of different games and toys and he finally managed to sell some and gain some money which allowed him to buy a house out of Tokyo, with a big garden and live the rest of his life there. Ai continued to stay at his old house next Shinichi's house alone. They all had found their purpose in life and they were walking towards it. They all had left their painful memories behind, kept the good ones and their beloved ones in them and they kept walking towards.

A few years later

Sonoko was getting married that Sunday with Makoto, the famous karate champion. Everyone were at her villa in Hawai. Sonoko was dressed in a beautiful white dress and was sitting nervously on the couch.

''Come on Sonoko! Don't be so nervous! Everything will be ok! Ne?'' Ran tried to calm her friend down.

''Yeah!... Well now that I am thinking about it... do you remember when we were in high school? When we had come here instead of our travel with our schools?'' Kazuha asked excited from the memories she had on that very couch where Sonoko were now sitting.

''Yeah... how can we forget?'' Ran said dreamily. ''We were quite wild then. With that organization huh... do you remember?'' she asked the bride.

''Yeah... I do… and now that we said organization...I wonder if she came...'' she whispered to herself.

''Who?'' the other girls asked her together.

''Me...'' a familiar voice sounded from the door.

''Mairy?'' Ran and Kazuha asked united and jumped happily towards her.

''Welcome! I am so happy that you made it!'' Sonoko got up and went to greet her.

''Yeah... you are getting married after all.'' the other girl smiled sadly. "I couldn't possibly miss the opportunity to see the Miss Diva's wedding! Couldn't I?" Mairy joked but what she was saying was true. Sonoko had became one of the most famous fashion designers in the world with the nickname "Diva". She was a legend and so her wedding would be.

''AAHHHH! It's time~ It's time!'' Kazuha screamed.

''Yeah yeah! Let's go!'' Sonoko sounded more relaxed than before as she left the room first. Kazuha ran after her leaving Ran and Mairy behind smiling at them. Mairy kept having the same sad smile she used to have during highschool.

"I am happy that you are here Mairy." Ran said warmly at her old friend smiling at her. Mairy smiled back at her.

"I am happy that you are all going well." she answered back and started to walk towards the door having Ran following her.

The two girls followed the bride until the little church at the garden. There were people from lot's of rich families and lots of paparazzi. Sonoko didn't really care about them but for her friends. Shinichi, Heiji, Ai and all the familiar faces who knew Sonoko for years. Makoto was standing awkwardly, waiting for his bride to arrive with a bouquet of white roses in his arms. Shinichi and Heiji were there to support him and joke with him so he could relax a little. Ran and Kazuha went near their boyfriends and they all admired Sonoko walking down to her groom to be along with her father. Mairy stood at a corner and watched from afar, admiring them. She was truly happy that they were happy and alive. Free from any trouble.

During the feast she took a glass of champagne and she placed herself at the little bridge in the huge garden. While she was sipping her drink Shinishi approached her.

"Mairy. Long time no see. How are you?" he asked her excited as he hugged her. She hugged him back and they looked at each other for a few seconds in silence.

"I am fine and I let my self drink only one glass!" she joked pointing at her glass. Shinichi raised one eyebrow.

"Are you on a mission?"

"I am. But I took a few hours off to attend at Sonoko's wedding. She almost begged me to come. I couldn't say no, you know!" Mairy winked at him. Shinichi nodded as he knew Sonoko's begging style. It was quite bizarre.

"So… how are you doing?" he asked with a small hesitation in his voice. He hadn't spoke to her as much as he wanted to the past years and that made him sad. She was a huge help and an important point to his now life. The girl lost her smile and looked at the pond under them.

"I am fine." she just said. Shinichi didn't like her answer. He could hear the sadness in her voice.

"You still miss them, right?" he asked and she jumped. He was right on point.

"Hah… Shinichi we are here for Sonoko's wedding! Not for me." she giggled awkwardly but her phone rang. It was from her team. She looked apologetically at Shinichi.

"Go. I will inform Sonoko… and by the way… in a few months we will see you again, right?"

"Absolutely!" she gave him a thumps up and left in a hurry.

A few months later

''OOOhhhh come on! That is ssooo sweet!'' Sonoko screamed with joy while eating a huge peace of cake.

''Sonoko! Don't eat so much! You will get fat!'' Kazuha hissed.

''It's not me who is hungry! It's the baby! He must have taken from his daddy!'' Sonoko smiled with joy and ate another big piece of cake.

''Mmoooo, Sonoko!'' Ran laughed with her best friend.

''Well girls, I am sorry but I need to go!'' Mairy said looking at the clock on the wall.

''Hey! You are coming to our weddings tomorrow, ne?'' Ran made sure.

''Yeah yeah! How could I lose a double wedding, huh? '' Mairy said excited and got her bag to leave.

''But are you sure for what you are going to do?'' Sonoko asked seriously leaving her empty now plate on the table.

''Yeah... I have the keys and along with Ai we are going to fix it a little... but definitely we won't sell it... it needs to stay to her family. Even though her parents won't ever come here again… they allowed me to fix it...'' she finished sadly and ready to cry.

''I am sure that Anzu would be happy too, to see her house clean... she didn't managed to live in there for a long time after all...'' Ran smiled at her friend while driving her to the door of her and Shinichi's house. Mairy left to the house across the street, Anzu's house.

The garden was like a jungle. The then colorful path was now all gray and without color. It was heartbreaking. She opened the door and entered the house. There was dust everywhere. She walked in the leaving room and looked around. No one was there for a long time... that was true... no one had came in after that mission... She went to open the windows so the sun could come inside. It was summer already. It was so hot. She turned around and went into the kitchen. She opened the windows too.

''Dust... dust everywhere! Damn it!'' Then she looked on the table and show an opened letter. She read it. It was for Shinichi from Anzu... it must be her last letter and goodbye...

She sat down on the chair near her and looked at it again. She must have read it at least three times by the time she realized that she needed to start to cleaning.

''Well let's go then!''

A few minutes later

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

The day of the wedding, Ran and Kazuha were getting ready at Ran's house along with Ran's and Shinichi's mothers, Mairy, Sonoko, Ai and Ayumi.

''OOOhhhh look how beautiful you are, both of you!'' Ayumi said dreamy. ''I hope one day I will be such a beautiful bride too!'' she continued as she danced around.

''You still have time in front of you, you are still a little kid!'' Mairy remarked her young age.

''Then why aren't you getting married, Mairy?'' Ai asked her while staring outside the window.

''Hm… well my work doesn't actually allow me so much free time to get a boyfriend. But I don't really care. '' she smiled sadly knowing that these words hurt her more than she thought.

''Hahahaha.. I am sure you will find the chosen one someday my love! So don't be so hard on your self!'' Yukiko commented as she put a flower on Ran's hair.

''Ok! Everything is ready!'' Kisaki shouted with joy and took a few steps back to enjoy the view of the two beautiful brides. The two girls looked at each other and laughed. It was time. Time to be with the ones who they loved for so many years.

''I would really like Anzu and Simon to be here too...'' Ran talked to herself while looking at some pictures on the table. At the first was Ran with Shinichi, the next on Kazuha with Heiji, the one near them were Anzu with Simon and Mairy at a very young age, Mairy had brought it as a request of Ran and at the last one was Anzu with Shinichi. Shinichi had it. It was taken at school when they had won that competition back then. Ran walked a little towards the window next to Ai.

''So Mairy how did the cleaning went yesterday?'' Sonoko asked.

''Um... cool cool... but, oh yeah! You need to see what I found!'' boasted the girl and went to the door. When she opened it two people appeared. A girl and a boy.

''Oh My!'' Ran shouted.

''You are kidding me right?'' Sonoko almost choke herself with a piece of cake(again).

''Hohooo? Welcome back you two!'' Ai welcomed them back.

''Wait, wait! You knew all along?'' Mairy asked confused.

''Yep... you didn't, I believe, huh?'' Ai asked with an evil smile on her face.

''How could you ,Anzu? I thought I was your best friend!'' Mairy flipped from anger and was ready to attack her best friend.

''You know what they say Mairy. If you want to fool your enemies, you need first to fool your friends, ne?'' the new coming girl answered laughing and not feeling guilty at all. Then she looked at the two brides in front of her.

''Look at you! So beautiful... congratulations girls!'' she smiled wider.

''This could be us, if you were to agree to marry me, Anzu!'' Simon complained from behind her.

''Anzu... you... no... welcome back! Shinichi would be so happy to see you!'' Ran smiled with tears running down her face.

''Why are you crying honey?'' Kisaki asked worried her daughter.

''It's because she is happy to see her alive after all these years!'' Yukiko shouted while hugging Anzu with all her strength.

''It's just... that...she did so many things for us... and then she was gone... and I couldn't thank her... and now... and now... wwhhhhooooaaaaaaa...'' the girl cried louder.

''Ran.. we don't want your make up to be ruined more.. so stop honey and let's go already! Ne Kazuha?'' Anzu proposed and left the room with Simon and Mairy.

Sonoko got up with the help of the two mothers and followed them. Kazuha and Ran too.

When the went outside there were police cars waiting for them from Tokyo and Osaka.

Megure, Sato and Tagaki were waiting outside. They all got in the police cars and they started for the church.

''So Ran! How did Shinichi proposed?'' Anzu asked the all red now bride.

''Um... ne... we had gone for holidays in London. And one night under the Big Ben he proposed to me... it was magical!'' the girl smiled to herself.

"Ok, ok, everyone! All the girls please gather around! Ran will now throw the flowers!'' Sonoko screamed.

''Oh man... I really hope Anzu catch them...'' Simon said with hope to Shinichi.

''And why is that?'' the detective asked his friend.

''I proposed to her so many times. She just says 'no' every fucking time... at least if she catches it she will probably change her mind.''

'HAHAHAHAHA''

''Are you ready?'' Ran asked the girls.

''Yeaahh! Ayumi is ready! Ne, Ai-chan?''

''Yes, I guess.'' the blonde answered with boredom and Kazuha's bouquet in her hands.

"But… Simon, I am really happy that you two are alive and well. I own you so much..." Shinichi said to the boy next to him.

"I am also happy for being alive… Anzu is the best thing that ever happened to me...i don't plan on losing her again..." Simon and glued his eyes on the bouquet.

''Ok! On three! One! Two! THREEEE!'' and the bouquet flew on the air and was placed in Anzu's hands.

''OOOhhhhh'' Sonoko exclaimed happily.

''Oh my...'' Anzu looked at her boyfriends lightened face.
