AN: ok this was frustrating. Don't get me wrong, I like this chapter, but my keyboard for my iPad died and I can't find the friggin charger. Typing on this damn iPad is a bitch. Anyways, enjoy!
"Engaged?!" Emily threw her arms around Hanna and hugged her. "Oh my god tell me everything! It's about time!"
Hanna squealed and fanned her face. Emily was starting to believe this day would never come. What's it been now, nearly five years? If there was a picturesque couple, it was Hanna and Caleb. Emily was almost upset that Caleb hadn't mentioned such a thing to her; she figured she would be the first to know, besides Hanna's parents; Caleb's a classy guy and surely asked for their permission first. Not that her and Caleb were super close or anything, but they had a small budding relationship over the years and she was Hanna's best friend.
"It was, like, insanely romantic. Think: One rose, the first song we ever danced to, the first words he ever said to me, and several candles."
"Oh my gosh, did you know what he was doing?"
"At first, no. But after a while I grew suspicion."
Excitement waved through both girls. Moments make up a lifetime, but you only remember certain ones. They define you, make you who you are. Emily and Hanna's friendship was a moment that defined both of them; a moment that would last forever.
A slew of thoughts ran through Emily's head. All from the planning of the wedding, to wondering how Spencer would feel. She feared Spencer might end up down in the dumps if the planning process reminded her of her own. She hoped, however, that Spencer wouldn't haven't those feelings, because love wasn't a part of the old wedding plans anymore. She hoped that Spencer would get excited. Emily didn't want to rush anything, but what she has with Spencer is special.
"Of course, I want you to be my maid of honor." Hanna said.
"Absolutely. Do you know who will be your bridesmaids?"
"I'm gonna ask Mona, you remember her from high school, right? And I'm gonna ask the girls from college." Hanna paused for a second in thought. "I may ask Aria and Spencer if I still have room, they're awesome and I love them, but I just haven't known them as long, you know?" She shook her head in confusion. "I don't know."
"Well," Emily responded, "it's not always about how long you've known them, but your relationship with them. "
"You're right. I have to think about it a little more. This is still all so knew!"
"You mean you haven't thought of it before?"
"Don't look so surprised."
"Hanna! Did you not think you and Caleb would work out?"
"No! Never even crossed my mind. In fact, we have talked about it before. I've just never really thought of these things."
"You and Caleb are perfect together. No doubt in my mind." Emily put a comforting hand on Hanna's shoulder. "You have time to think about these things. Have you two thought of a date?"
"We are thinking next year, on this date, the same day he proposed."
"July 6th. It sounds nice!"
Just then Emily's phone chimed. She looked down and immediately smiled upon seeing Spencer's name.
Hey, are you free tonight?
Yea what's up?
Can I take you out?
"Hanna, it's not that I don't love you, but I just made last minute plans." Emily looked at her sheepishly slightly holding her phone up.
"Who is more important than me and my big news?...oh yes, Spencer right?" Hanna smirked. "By the way, how is that going?" Hanna arched her eyebrow, never letting her smirk fade.
"The same as usual."
"No no no. You're not getting off with that lame answer. What'd you do with that bra she left in your room?"
"I still have it." Emily said. Hanna's eyes lit up with all kinds of ideas.
"Ooh are you keeping it for dirty reasons?" She grabbed Emily's arm. "Like I said, you need to give it to her somewhere in public."
"Hanna I'm not doing that."
"Uh no you have to now that you're ditching me for her. " Hanna argued.
"Han, I called her a horn-dog before pushing her out my door that morning, if I give her that bra, who's gonna look like a hypocrite?"
"For me?" Hanna put on her best puppy eyes. Emily just rolled her eyes and ushered her out the door.
Spencer was bobbing her head to the music as she drove to Emily's house. Her mother had fired her up and she needed to see Emily to make it all better. A nervous feeling was creeping up on her, but she just tried to ignore it. Things with Emily were always the good kind of nervous, so why should this be any different? Oh right, because she was lying to her. All she had to do was avoid any questions about her mother from Emily. She could do that. Easy. She was a lawyer, well almost, and that was part of her job. Talking in circles until you confuse your victim.
Not that Emily was a victim.
She pulled into Emily's drive and quickly got out to ring the doorbell. She reached out for Emily's hand and led her to the passenger door, successfully opening it and guiding Emily into the seat. She bent down and placed a chaste kiss on Emily's forehead before getting back in the drivers seat. She tapped her fingers on the wheel just staring at her dash.
"Everything ok?" Emily looked worried. Spencer smiled, she fawned over that little crease in between Emily's eyebrows. She reached over and rubbed her thumb over Emily's cheek.
"Of course, love. I just forgot something back at the house. Do you mind?"
"Of course not." Emily quickly responded, blushing at being called 'love'. They drove, mostly in silence, back to Spencer's house. When Spencer pulled into her driveway, she frowned upon seeing her mothers car in the driveway.
"Who's car is that?" Emily asked.
"Um, Melissa is just using my driveway as a parking lot." Spencer cringed at the excuse that barely made any sense.
"What?"
"I mean, she's away and she didn't want to pay to keep her car somewhere. I'll be right back." She rushed out of the car, avoiding any more questions. She briskly walked into the kitchen where she found her mother. She rolled her eyes before she even realized she was rolling her eyes. Her mother had easily helped herself to the wine.
"Can I help you?"
"Spencer, you said you were staying home for the night I thought I'd find you here." She looked at Spencer's spare key on the counter. "Under the welcome mat, Spencer? I thought you were smarter than that. Anyone could've gotten in here." Spencer just rolled her eyes again and put on a fake smile.
"Again, can I help you?"
"I've thought more about what you asked of me."
Spencer raised her eyebrows and saw the small jewelry box she forgot on the counter. She reached for it. Veronica made note of the movement.
"And?" Spencer stared at her.
"Are you giving that to her?"
"Yes. I am." Spencer held eye contact, willing herself to be stronger.
"I still don't approve."
"You're kidding me." Spencer watched as her mother swirled her wine. A look of disgust was plastered on her face and she took a long swig of the liquid. "Say something!" Spencer yelled.
"Keep her out of my house. I don't ever want to see you with her. No pictures on your office desk." Veronica eyed the jewelry box. " and whatever ever you plan to do with that, leave me out of it."
"So basically, you don't care what I do behind your back."
"You'll sneak around anyways, won't you?"
"So if I ever get married you don't want an invite." Spencer said matter of factly. Veronica looked at the box again. Spencer followed her eyes. "Did you look at it?"
"Yes."
Spencer pondered this for a moment. She smiled an ungrateful smile, almost a creepy one, like the one you see painted on a clown.
"So no invite, huh?" She walked backwards towards the door. "Please, stay. Enjoy my wine. I'll leave you be." She slammed the door and got back in her car. She tried her best to look natural. Emily watched her carefully.
"Are you ok? Took you a while."
"Yea, sorry. I just forgot to make an important phone call and the number was at the house. That's all." She leaned over and quickly kissed Emily before turning up the radio to prevent conversation. She could care less about her mother. Those words were all she needed. She can do whatever the hell she wants behind her mothers back. And hell, she was probably gonna put a picture in her office anyways.
The drive was decently long, but not unmanageable. Emily sat quietly humming along to the music, getting extra excited when certain songs came on. She watched Spencer focus on the road. She loved the way the brunette sometimes bit her lip, and the way she would lick her lips every so often. She especially loved when Spencer would try and switch lanes, she would pucker her lips ever so slightly in concentration and scrunch her eyebrows a little.
Spencer could feel Emily's stare and she burned up. Why was she so nervous? Her lips kept going dry, more than usual, and she felt drained. Butterflies were trying to crawl up her neck from inside her stomach, and when she felt the box inside of her jacket pocket the butterflies would practically fly out of her mouth and reveal her secrets to Emily.
They finally arrived at a long dirt driveway and Emily perked up in recognition.
"You're lake house?"
"Uh-huh. Hope you don't mind..." Spencer felt a pang of concern rush through her.
"No not at all. I, um, don't have any clothes with me."
"That's not a problem." Spencer wiggled her eyebrows. She then realized that seemed too up front and she blushed. "I mean, we may not spend the night. Unless you want to."
Emily blushed too but nodded her head in agreement. As soon as they parked Spencer took Emily's hand and led her onto the trail.
"Remember this?"
"This is where you first kissed me." Emily answered.
Spencer smiled. "Do you remember what you said to me?"
"I guess you're hinging on actions speak louder than words." Emily chuckled at the memory. "You had said you wanted to talk."
"And then I just kissed you instead." They were both laughing now. Spencer grew happier each minute she heard Emily's angelic laugh. She almost just wanted to stop the world so everyone could here her laugh. Scratch that. She wanted to steal Emily from the rest of the world so that she could have her all to herself. As the laughter died down an air of seriousness came over them. Spencer took a step closer, grabbed Emily's face in both hands, and kissed her. She could faintly smell Emily's shampoo and she moved her fingers into Emily's still slightly damp hair. Emily sighed and brought her hands to Spencer hips and squeezed. Spencer's eyes rolled back inside her head and she tried to suppress a heavy sigh. Emily slowly traced Spencer's upper lip with her tongue and then flicked Spencer's lips with her tongue. They broke off the kiss which immediately turned into a hug. Emily whispered "I love you." Into Spencer's ear and Spencer's heart fluttered. Emily dragged her hands from Spencer's hips to her back and slipped the tips of her fingers under Spencer's jeans.
"Em..." Spencer breathed, her voice hitching, "if you don't stop, your definitely not going to need those clothes." Emily's heart beat faster at her words and she took a step back putting some space between them. Spencer held out her hand and they started to walk. They eventually found the bank where they had once talked. Spencer took a seat and Emily followed. They let their arms brush together and they listened to the small waves of the lake. It was so different this time. Last time they sat here together Spencer was still in distress about Toby and Emily was dealing with a broken heart.
"Emily." Spencer broke the silence. "You know you mean so much to me." Emily looked back at her and smiled. She squeezed Spencer's hand and then slipped her hand onto Spencer's thigh. A tingling sensation spread throughout Spencer's body and she felt paralyzed at the touch. She felt like that little school girl all over again. All giddy and unable to make comprehensible sentences.
"I have never loved anyone the way I love you. I love you so much."
"Spence..
"And listen, I want you to know I'd do anything to keep you by my side. Every time I look at you I get butterflies. And that feeling doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon." Emily wanted to return the words but her tongue felt swollen and her neck restricted. She almost felt as though she should cry. She opted for rubbing soothing circles on Spencer thigh instead. Spencer's voice hitched yet again at the motion and her following words were raspy.
"My life has completely changed, and I want it to stay this way forever." She reached into her pocket, wrapping her fingers around the box. "And I want you to know that I'll always be here. That's a promise." She pulled out the box and opened it to reveal a ring. Her eyes started to water and an unbreakable smile formed on her lips. Emily's eyes widened and this time she did allow a tear to slip out.
"Spencer.."
"It's a promise ring. I'm in this for the long haul." Emily wrapped her arms around Spencer's neck and kissed her passionately. When she pulled away she allowed Spencer to slip the ring on her ring finger and they quickly found each other's lips again.
"I'm in this for the long haul too. I love you, Spencer." They kissed again, slower this time, savoring each other's touch. Their lips moved perfectly against each other and they hummed with happiness. After pulling away for air, Emily reached for her bag.
"Oh, and Spence. You forgot this at my place." She pulled out the bra and watched Spencer's cheeks go red. They laughed at the situation and quickly found themselves in each others arms again.
AN: ok so I'm gonna use this AN for personal reasons and I feel kinda weird asking this lol, but I'm looking for a story. Its erg-ing me. I have tried for several days to find it but to no avail. Haven't read it in almost a year so the only things I remember are: spencer and Emily's first kiss was in Hanna's bedroom, and They eventually had an argument in a park where Spencer walked away and Emily ran after her. Lol sorry this is weird, but I really want to re-read it haha. If the author is reading this, it was an awesome story :). So yea if anyone knows the title could you leave it in the comments, thanks! (Lmfao I can't get over this) I'm such an awkward person.
