The Garden of Live Flowers Part 1

Lacey woke with a start as she heard arguing going on around her. She sat up in bed and wiped the sleep from her eyes. Sam was sitting on the other bed, Dean was pacing around the room and Cas busy drawing something on the table.

"What's going on?" She yawned.

"An angel's after Sam." Dean told her before turning to Cas. "Really? Anna? I don't believe it."

"It's true."

"So she's gone all Glenn Close, huh? That's awesome."

"Who's Glenn Close?" Cas asked.

"Cruella De Ville." Lacey supplied proudly.

"Who's Cruella De Ville?" Cas asked, even more confused.

"She wanted to make a fur coat out of puppies."

"So, Sam is the puppy?" Cas asked, catching on.

"Metaphorically speaking." Lacey nodded. Dean looked between the two of them, not sure how to react to that one.

"So the plan to kill me, would it actually stop Satan?"

"No Sam, come on." Dean told him.

"Cas what do you think? Doesn't Anna have a point?"

"No she's uh, Glenn Close." Lacey nodded happily.

"I don't get it. We're looking for the chick that wants to gank Sam." Dean stated indicating what Cas was doing to the table. "Why poke the bear?"

"Anna will keep trying. She won't give up until Sam is dead. So we kill her first." Cas poured oil into a bowl on the table and began to chant.

"Zod ah ma ra la ee est la gi ro sa." Red flames shot out of the bowl. Cas leant against one of the chairs looking pained.

"I've found her."

"Where is she?"

"Not where, when. It's nineteen seventy eight."

"What? Why nineteen seventy eight? I wasn't even born yet."

"You won't be if she kills your parents."

"What?" Sam and Dean looked shocked.

"Anna can't get to you because of me. So she's going after them."

"Take us back right now." Dean told him.

"And deliver you right to Anna? I should go alone."

"They're our parents Cas. We're going."

"It's not that easy."

"Why not?"

"Time travel was difficult even with the powers of heaven at my disposal."

"Which got cut off."

"So, what, you're like a Delorean without enough plutonium?" Dean asked.

"I don't understand that reference." Cas looked to Lacey who shrugged.

"Not a clue."

"But I'm telling you." Cas continued. "Taking this trip with passengers no less, it'll weaken me."

"They're our mom and dad. If we can save them, and not just from Anna. I mean if we can set things right. We have to try."

"What about my powers?" Lacey piped up.

"What?" Sam asked.

"What if Cas tapped into my powers, it could give him an extra boost." She suggested. Cas shrugged.

"It's worth a try."

A short while later Lacey came out of the bathroom ready to go. She was wearing a black silk strap top with light ripped jeans and black lace up boots.

"Ready?" Cas asked the room at large.

"Not really." Sam commented.

"Bend your knees." Dean advised.

"Lacey if you link your mind with mine and hold onto me I will be able to access your powers." Cas instructed. Lacey took hold of his arm and closed her eyes, concentrating. Cas put his hands on both Sam and Deans foreheads.

The next time Lacey opened her eyes she was sprawled on the pavement. She heard a car honking and turned to see where the sound was coming from. Cas was propped against the car next to her, blood dripping from his nose.

"Cas?" Sam asked as he and Dean appeared around the other side of the Car.

"Hey." Dean said as he helped her to her feet.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Sam said as he tried to steady Cas. Dean took hold of Cas' other arm.

"Take it easy, take it easy. Are you all right?"

"I'm fine. I'm much better than I expected." Cas told them before he passed out.

"Cas?" Sam put his hand out." He's breathing. Sort of. What do we do?"

Dean had taken the unconscious Cas into a nearby motel. Sam and Lacey waited for him on the sidewalk, Sam had popped into a nearby phone booth and checked out the phone book for their parents address. Dean came out of the motel.

"So I paid for Cas for five nights up in the uh, honeymoon suite. I told the manager 'do not disturb no matter what'. You know what he said to me? 'Yeah don't sweat it. Want to buy some dope?'" Sam snorted. "Dope. We ought to stick around here, buy some stock in Microsoft."

"Yeah, we might have to if Cas doesn't recover, is he all right?"

"What do I look like Dr Angel medicine woman? He'll wake up. He's, you know, tough for a little nerdy dude with wings."

"If he landed like that, hopefully so did Anna. Should buy us some time."

"So did you find 'em?"

"Yeah. Uh, the Winchesters. Forty five Robin Tree."

"Let's go pop in on the folks."

They got directions from a passer by and headed in the direction they had pointed. When they reached the house Dean took Sam by the arm.

"Sam. Sam, wait, wait, wait."

"Dean, Anna could be here any second."

"What exactly are we gonna march up there and tell 'em?"

"Uh, the truth."

"What that their sons are back from the future to save them from an angel gone terminator? Come on. Those movies haven't even come out yet."

"Well then tell her demons are after 'em. I mean she thinks you're a hunter right?"

"Yeah a hunter that disappeared right when her dad died. She's gonna love me. Just follow my lead." The walked up the path and knocked on the door. It was opened a few moments later by a woman with wavy blonde hair.

"Hi Mary." She looked startled.

"You can't be here." She tried to shut the door but Dean stopped her.

"I'm sorry if this is a bad time."

"You don't understand. I'm not… I don't do that anymore. I have a normal life now. You have to go."

"I'm sorry. But this is important, okay?" A guy Lacey was guessing was Sam and Dean's father came to the door behind her.

"Sorry sweetie, they're just…" She tried to explain.

"Mary's cousins." Dean supplied. "Yeah, we couldn't stop through town without swinging by and saying 'hey' now could we? Dean." He put his hand out and the guy shook it.

"Dean, you look familiar."

"Really? Yeah, you do too actually, you know we must have met some time. Small towns right? Got to love 'em."

"I'm John."

"This is Sam."

"Sam. Huh, Mary's father was a Sam."

"It's a, uh family name."

"You okay pal?" He asked Sam who was staring at the two of them. "You look a little spooked."

"Oh… oh yeah. Just a … long trip."

"Yeah. And this is Lacey, she's…" Dean faltered not sure what to say. "…a family friend." Lacey raised an eyebrow at him for a moment before smiling and shaking their hands.

"Well, they were just on their way out." Mary said giving them a forced smile.

"What? They just got here. Real happy to meet folks from Mary's side. Please come on in for a beer."

"Twist my arm." Dean smiled and the three of them walked into the house. Mary gave Dean a look as they sat down in the living room.

"Are you sure you're okay Sam?" John asked.

"W…oh. Yeah, yeah. I'm just umm… you are so beautiful."

"He means that in a non-weird, wholesome, family kind of way." Dean butted in.

"Yeah, right." John nodded.

"We haven't seen Mary in quite some time and see, she's the spitting image of our mom, I mean it's…it's…"

"Eerie." Sam provided.

"So how are you guys related?" John asked.

"You know, uh distantly."

"Oh. So you knew Mary's parents?"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mary's dad was uh, pretty much like a grandpa to us."

"Oh. That was tragic, that heart attack."

"Yes, it was."

"So, uh what are you guys doing in town anyway?"

"Uh, business you know."

"Oh yeah? What line of work?"

"Plumbing." Sam said at the same time as Dean said "Scrap metal."

"Oh gosh. It's almost 7. I hate to be rude, but I got to get dinner ready." Mary interrupted.

"Maybe they could stay." John suggested.

"I'm sure they'd have to leave."

"Uh, look, please stay. You know, it would mean a lot to me. I haven't met much of Mary's side of the family." Dean smiled and nodded. The phone began to ring and John went to answer it. Mary rounded on them.

"You have to leave now."

"Okay, just listen…" Mary cut him off.

"No, you listen. Last time I saw you a demon killed my parents. Now you waltz in here like you're family? Whatever you want, no. Leave me alone."

"You and John are in danger."

"What are you talking about?"

"Something's coming for you."

"Demon?"

"Not exactly."

"Well, what then?"

"It's kind of hard to explain, okay? It's...it's…"

"An angel." Sam told her.

"What? There's no such thing."

"I wish. But they're twice as strong as demons. And bigger dicks."

"Why would an angel want to kill us?"

"It's a long story, and we'll tell you the whole thing, but right now, you've got to trust us, and we got to go. Look at my face and tell me if I'm lying to you." Mary studied Dean's face for a moment before nodding.

"Okay. Where do we go?"

"Out of here. We got to move now though."

"Okay. But what do I tell John?"

"Just tell him…" Dean paused. "John?" he called into the other room. There was no reply. They headed into the kitchen and found a note next to the phone saying John had gone to work and would be back soon.

They arrived at the garage to find Anna attacking John.

"I wish I could say it's good to see you Anna." Dean told her.

"You too Dean. I'm sorry." A moment later Lacey appeared next to Dean and waved her arm to send Anna across the room. But nothing happened. She blinked and tried again. Anna smiled at her, grabbing her by the throat and lifting her off the ground. Lacey began to choke, as the lights dimmed Anna threw her across the garage where she slammed into a car before falling to the ground unconscious.

"Lacey!" Dean yelled as he ran towards her. Mary stepped in front of Anna twirling a knife in her hand. She lunged at Anna a few times before stabbing her in the chest. Anna looked down before pulling the knife out.

"Sorry. It's not that easy to kill an angel."

"No. But you can distract them." Sam said as he placed his hand on the angel sigil he had drawn in blood on the wall. Anna disappeared in a blinding flash of light. Dean picked Lacey up from the ground.

"Come on, we've got to get out of here."

They were sat awkwardly in the car. John was driving and Mary was up front next to him. Sam and Dean were in the back seat, Lacey was unconscious in the middle leant against Dean.

"Monsters. Monsters?" John asked incredulously.

"Yes."

"Monsters are real."

"I'm sorry, I didn't know how…"

"And you fight them? All of you?"

"Yeah."

"How long?"

"All my life." Mary admitted.

"John, just try to understand, she didn't exactly have a choice…" Dean tried to explain.

"Shut up, all of you! Look, not another word or so help me, I will turn this car around!"

"Wow. Awkward family road trip." Dean muttered.

"No kidding." Sam replied.
