*Leah's POV*
After searching for an apartment for a little over a month, Dean and I finally found one that was here in Miami. It was still close enough to the school, where we wouldn't have to travel so far and was still within a decent driving distance from work for the both of us. Dean was about to graduate next year with his MBA from the University of Florida and I was about to start my first year for the PhD program for Biomedical Enginerring.
Looking around the apartment, I smile to myself as we had just finished up the last of the renaming things that had to be done. It was a one bedroom apartment, but it was an upgrade from what we had back in Cincinnati when we had our own place. Beige carpets lined the entire apartment, except for the bathroom and the kitchen where the floor was tile. There was a small closet by the front door and a small bench next to it. The walls were a cream color and we had put up some pictures of us and our friends that we've taken over the years. In the living room, we had a sofa and a couch, both grey and suede with a black table in the middle of it. We had a television set, a few feet in front of it with speakers on each side of it. Since it was only going to be Dean and I living here and because we usually watch television together almost always, we decided it was best to leave it at just one television for now. We had a small balcony that overlooked the busy summer streets of Miami with the most beautiful sunset in the distance and the beach wasn't far behind either. The kitchen had granite counters and a brand new stove and oven with a brand new refrigerator and all stainless steel. Little by little, we were buying plates and cups and eating utensils to fill up the cabinets as well as pots and pans. We were able to fit a small dining table close by and it was black with chairs to match.
In the bedroom, we had a mahogany Queen size bed set with a matching dresser. Purple and grey blankets, sheets and pillow cases filled the bed and a small bench stood in front of the bed. Dean and I had a lamp in the corner of the room that we would use to help illuminate the room and two bedside tables. One on each side of us. I walk over to Dean's side and see a picture of me and him when we were on the beach. He had me in his arms and a look in his eyes that would give me butterflies. I smiled and quickly felt someone's presence nearby. Putting the picture down slowly and quietly, I close my eyes and feel someone resting their head softly against mine before I feel his warm lips on my shoulder.
"Dean." I softly say, before turning around and melting in his arms.
"Leah." He says, before our lips meet for a kiss.
Over the years that Dean and I have been together, I've managed to feel when his presence is around. I can feel when his eyes are on me, even when I'm not looking. We've come to know each other very well, and I like that we do.
"Have you found anything that you might like for the wedding?" Dean asks, holding me after we pull away from each other's lips.
"Yes, I have." I tell him. "But we have to start looking at venues, you know."
It had been a couple of weeks since Dean and I started planning our wedding. We had wanted to wait until we had found an apartment and got settled in, but we weren't sure of how long it would take and with our wedding date set to be the day after Dean graduates from the MBA program, we took a chance and started while we were still looking for an apartment. Now that the living situation is settled, we could focus more on the wedding.
"Do you remember when we first started dating?" Dean asked. "We were sneaking back into the school at night to sleep in the locker room and here we are almost six years later, and planning our wedding."
"With our own place and we're almost done with school." I say, looking up at him, as he keeps me in his arms. "Who would have thought that we'd make it this far?"
Dean smiles at me. "I'm glad we did. I need my princess in my life."
"So I'm your princess now, huh?" I ask him.
"Of course." He replies with a chuckle. "Even though you don't let me spoil you. You're the love of my life and I don't know what I'd do without you."
I give him a big smile and another kiss. "We're going to get married."
"It's about time." Dean says with a chuckle. "I've been waiting a long time for this."
"Me too." I say, with a smile. '
Three months later...
Dean
"How's everything been since the last time we saw each other?" Asks Roman as we're working out at the gym a few days after Thanksgiving.
"It's been really good. Busy, but good." I tell him as we take turns lifting weights. "With school and work and planning for the wedding, it's been a lot on our plates. I don't know how Leah and I haven't ripped our hairs out of our head."
Because Roman was going to school at Georgia Tech with his girlfriend and his twin cousins, Jimmy and Jey, we haven't seen much of each other except for when we have breaks from school. The twins had recently moved here to Miami and it's been amazing ever since. Especially for Naomi who finally got to spend more than a week or two at a time with her boyfriend without worrying about him leaving for school again.
Roman was hoping to get drafted by the NFL once they graduated, so that he can finally go pro, but unfortunately, it hasn't been working out. It came to a shock to us because we all thought he would go pro with how amazing he is at football, especially with his size. But sometimes one thing doesn't work out so that what is meant for us will come along.
"How is Leah, by the way?" He asks. "I know it's been a while since I've seen her with how busy she's been with school and everything."
"She's doing really good." I say with a smile. "Spending a lot of time with Naomi and some of their friends for their dresses and stuff. We have to meet up soon for our fittings, you know."
"Just let me know when, where and what time." Roman says.
I chuckle. "Sounds like me when I told Leah to just let me know where and the time."
"I'll be surprised if she didn't say anything to you when you told her that." He said.
"The look she gave me said enough." I told him and heard him laugh afterwards.
Once he had finished laughing, we finished our workout before leaving. We both went back to our places and got changed to go meet up again to meet up with the twins for the rest of the afternoon. Leah was with the girls but we had managed to talk on the phone and text a few times throughout the day. When we finally got back to my place, Leah was there with the girls and we all greeted them. I gave Leah a kiss before sitting on one of the chairs from the dining table.
"Girls, we were talking on the way home and we wanted your opinions on something." Said Jimmy. "We were saying that distance can make the heart grow fonder. But it can also show how strong your love is. What do you ladies think?"
"It can in a way." Said Naomi. "It takes a lot of work though, to make a relationship work when it's long distance. A lot of trust and communication that you have to put into it."
The others agreed before Jey spoke up. "Why don't we try a little something?"
"What's this little something?" I asked, looking over at him.
"Well, Naomi and Jimmy had a good amount of their relationship with long distance because they went to different schools for college." He started off saying. "Why don't we try something similar?"
We all looked at him with a questioning look. "What do you mean, exactly?"
"Well, we live with our girlfriends, right?" He asked. "Instead of living with them, we live with each other. And the girls stay together. We take turns staying at each other's places, and we can only go home when the other isn't there."
"What is this supposed to accomplish?" Jimmy asked. He already had to spend the majority of the year away from Naomi when we were all in school. I doubted he wanted to try that again.
Jey looked over at his girlfriend, Jackie. They were madly in love and genuinely cared about each other. They had been fighting recently over a few things, but they always managed to handle it and get back on good terms with each other.
"I think I know what this is about." She said as we turn our attention to her. "I had told him that we had needed some space because we have fighting so much recently and so maybe some time apart would do us some good. So that we can get ourselves together and come back with clear heads to work on us and make sure that we came out stronger. We're not breaking up. I love you, Jey and I don't want to be with anyone else. But we can't spend the rest of our relationship fighting this much. We need to figure out how to solve our issues."
"And time apart is going to fix that?" He asks her.
She lets out a sigh. "I'm not trying to sweep this under the rug, Jey. But we need to make sure that we're okay. We don't want to lose each other, but if we don't figure something out, we're just going to ruin what we have."
"What do you suggest?" Roman asks her.
"Let's try a month." Says Jackie. "We can still talk to each other, especially with Leah and Dean planning their wedding and we're not going to stop them from doing so. But that time apart could maybe help all of us appreciate each other more."
Leah and I looked over at each other and I saw a look in her eyes that didn't look too happy. I wasn't either. This was someone that I had spent a lot of my time with and to suddenly not be with her as much as I usually way for a month, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. Leah is the one person that does manage to keep me sane and put up with me and my craziness better than anyone. I love waking up to her everyday and coming home to her.
A/N 2: How do you think the wedding planning will go for Leah and Dean now that they're officially going ahead with the planing and moved in together? How do you think they'll all hold up with a month of being apart from their significant others?
